Rose looked up at all of the Kings and Queens confused. They all gave her the exact same look. Rose asked, "Where am I? I remember crashing into a rock...Oh no!"
Rose fell to the ground and started sobbing. Susan hushed her, "It's okay Rose. Everything is fine now."
She almost screamed, "No! It's not! Markell is dead! I saw and watched him die, and there was nothing I could do!"
Almost the whole crew turned to look at her. Susan felt tears well in her eyes, she walked away as everyone else tried to calm Rose down. Susan ran into her tent and starting letting the tears fall. She didn't care if anyone saw her. Caspian came into the tent and saw his wife on the floor in a ball crying. He went and sat next to her. She threw her arms around his waist and was on his lap. Caspian held her tight to him, while she cried into his chest.
When she was done crying, Caspian asked. "Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?"
Susan pulled her face out his chest to look at him. She wiped some fresh tears from her face and said, "It's just, if they didn't leave because of jealousy, Markell might be here right now. He might have been cracking jokes right now."
Caspian wiped a tear from her face. "Why do I hear all these might haves? He's probably in Aslan's country right now cracking jokes. And if he were here right now, would he want you to be crying over him?"
Susan sighed and looked into her husband's loving-caring brown eyes. "You're right. He wouldn't want me to be crying."
Caspian smirked, "Wow. That's a first. You actually admitted out loud that I'm right."
Susan scrunched her face up. "That's because you're normally wrong."
"Nope. You were just to stubborn to admit to it."
Susan raised an eyebrow. "Oh really?"
Caspian touched her forehead and whispered. "Really."
Susan's eyes then almost popped, and Caspian turned serious. "What?"
Susan asked, "Did you see Marianna anywhere...since she came inside the tent?"
Caspian shook his head. "Did you think she went into the forest?"
Susan shrugged her shoulders and said, "Go find her."
Caspian nodded his head and put his sword in his belt. Susan kissed him before he left. Also before he walked out of the tent Susan grabbed his hand. He turned to look at her cautiously. She said, "Thank you, for making me feel better."
He smiled at her whole-heartedly. "I'm you're husband. I'll always be there for you and make you feel better. Just don't lock in your feelings or run away like you normally do."
Caspian squeezed Susan's hand one last time before leaving the tent. Susan walked out of the tent a little bit after Caspian did. She saw Rose still crying on the edge of the beach. Peter and Edmund were still trying to comfort her and calm her down.
Susan heard her name being whispered behind her. She quickly turned around and no one was there. She thought she heard it again and turned her head to the forest. Lucy walked up beside Susan, and Susan didn't even noticed. Lucy said, "Susan?"
Susan turned around abruptly and put a hand on her chest. She said, "Lucy! Don't scare me like that."
Lucy bit her lip. "Sorry. I wanted to know if you're okay."
She sighed. "It's still a fresh subject, but I let it all out all ready. I'm fine."
"Good. Peter decided it would be best if we stayed one more night. It's already night fall. So I was going to go to bed, I'm super tired."
Susan hugged her sister. "Okay, Goodnight." Susan gave Lucy a fake smile. When she was out of sight, Susan's smile dropped automatically. She didn't like everyone asking her if she was okay. She wanted them to worry about Rose. Rose was Markell's wife.
Susan decided to sit by the campfire that was going. She curled herself into a ball to warm herself. She then had a moment of clarity. She sent Caspian alone into the forest. The two times he's gone without her, he got hurt. She quickly stood up and grabbed her bow and arrows. She ran into the forest as fast as she could without anyone noticing. Well, she thought no one noticed.
Frederick watched as Susan took off into the forest. Not letting anyone no and to top it off, she had her weapon. Frederick looked around to see if anyone else saw what he just did. Everyone was focused on what was happening with Rose. Frederick sighed and grabbed a crossbow with some arrows and followed Susan.
Caspian walked out of tent and thought about what he said to Susan. He meant every word and smiled, because he finally got that off of his chest. He then remembered why he was leaving the tent, and his smile faded instantly. He ran into the forest clutching his sword. He heard crying and instantly thought, trouble. He ran to the noise yelling, "Marianna! Marianna is that you?"
Marianna was sitting by the lake with the waterfall. Fireflies were lighting up the darkness along with the moon. Caspian ran up to her and squatted down next to her. He whispered, "Marianna are you alright?"
She sniffled and said, "Obviously not, Caspian."
"Then what's wrong?" He placed a hand on her shoulder gently.
Marianna looked up into his deep-brown eyes. "You're the problem Caspian. You are the only man who has cared about what I have to say. You are the only one who has been nice to me."
Caspian raised an eyebrow. "I don't understand. Isn't that a good thing?"
Marianna shook her head and smiled a little. "You're so oblivious, aren't you? The problem is you're married. You kissing Susan is...well it hurts."
"I'm sorry if it does. We love one another and..."
She cut him off saying. "I love you! Don't you get it? It hurts my heart, you loving someone else."
Caspian tried to look anywhere but her face to not hurt her. "Marianna..."
She cut him off again by kissing him on the mouth. Caspian didn't pull away, because he didn't want to hurt her anymore. He hated being the problem for people's pain. It was a horrible mistake. Susan was watching the kiss from behind a bush.
Susan felt like screaming and punching Marianna in the face. She wanted to smack Caspian so hard. She was carrying his child, and in return, he cheats on her? She was about to storm out until the two stopped kissing. Caspian and Marianna turned around to notice an old man with a dark smile on his face. Susan didn't move, she stayed hidden.
Caspian pushed Marianna behind him and held out his sword. The old man said with the smile still plastered on his face. "Well well well. It looks like we have King Caspian X and...Queen Susan?"
Caspian yelled to intimidate him. "Who are you?"
"Ah yes, I am the owner of this island. I created all these wonderful species. I am in fact a sorcerer."
"Well, we'll get off you're island in the morning. We won't bother you any longer."
The old man pulled his eyebrows together. "I don't want you to leave. You see killing a High King will give me so much more power. Ah, and yes so will a High Queen."
Caspian picked up his sword, that he laid on the ground earlier. The old man glared at him. "Oh King Caspian. You won't be needing that." The man put his hand and Caspian's sword started to turn hot. It burned Caspian's skin and almost instantly Caspian dropped his sword.
The old man said, "The best way to retain more power is to kill you by torturing you. So, this will hurt only a lot. I'm sorry." He held out his hand again and got into Caspian's head. Caspian was yelling in pain. It was the worst, most painful thing Caspian could ever feel. He just wanted to die. He fell to the ground and started foaming at the mouth.
Marianna tried to reach out to touch him and the old man said, "I wouldn't touch him. You'll get your's later. You don't want it any earlier." Marianna backed away from Caspian tears falling.
Even though Susan was mad at Caspian, she started to feel tears falling down her cheek. She put an arrow in her bow and aimed it at the man's head. But before she could release, another arrow headed straight towards the man. It headed straight for the heart.
He grabbed it in a instant, which made the torturing stop. Caspian breathed heavily and tears fell from his own eyes. He curled into a ball and felt absolutely numb. The man used his powers to bring Frederick out from the forest. He lifted Frederick in the air. He clicked his tongue and said, "Well, it looks like we had someone spying on us King Caspian."
He threw Frederick to the ground. He said, "Well, it looks like we're going to have to kill this one before you Caspian." He placed his hands out towards Frederick. Frederick started choking on nothing.
Caspian got up and tackled the old man. Caspian punched him in the face. The old man screamed, and it sent Caspian flying threw the air into the lake. The man walked slowly to Caspian. Caspian came up out of the water with anger in his eyes.
Susan decided it was now or never. She drew back her bow and aimed for the old man's head. It went straight there. The old man fell over took one last breath and died. He turned into dust, which then floated into the air. Caspian looked around for the person who killed the man. Susan came from out of the bushes and stood with her bow at her side. Caspian ran to her and hugged her with all his might. Before he had any time to react, Susan hit him so hard in the face, it left a huge red mark.
She yelled at him, "I saw what you did Caspian!"
He realized what she was talking about. He reached out to touch her and said, "Susan, please..."
She backed away with a tear slipping past. "No! Don't even touch me! You cheated Caspian, and who knows for how long." She ran away out of the forest back onto the beach.
Caspian was so shell shocked, he knew she only saw the kiss and no discussion before it. He wanted to run after her, but he knew it would only make things worse. Marianna walked up to touch Caspian she said just above a whisper. "Caspian...I..."
Caspian said with full rage in his voice. "No, Marianna. You caused enough trouble...I need some air."
Susan came back onto the beach, and Peter noticed her tears falling uncontrollably. He walked up to her, "What's wrong?" He said even more quietly, "Is it Markell?"
Susan nodded her head. "Yes. Can we just leave this stupid island?"
Peter raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"I just want to get this trip over with faster."
He sighed. "Susan, it would make more sense to stay here over night. I know loosing someone, is very hard. But, everything will get better."
Susan pulled on the same fake smile she did for Lucy. "Thanks Pete. I think I feel better already." She didn't want Peter to know about Caspian, because who knows what Peter who do?
She saw Caspian come out of the forest and she said to Peter, "Excuse me. I'm really tired, you know being pregnant and everything...a mommy's got to sleep."
Peter glanced at her one last time. "Are you sure you're fine? Is there something else going on?"
Susan shook her head trying not to look at Peter's face. She knew he would tell if she was lying. Susan walked away before Peter could notice or say anything else. Caspian jogged up to Peter and asked, "Do you know where Susan went?"
"She went to the tent to sleep. Why?"
"Oh, I just need to talk to her about something."
Peter stepped a little closer. "About what?"
"It's between the two of us Peter. We're married, we have our secrets just like you and Louise."
Peter put his hands up in defense. "Sorry, was the fight that bad?"
Caspian sighed in remorse. "I don't know if there's any getting out of this one."
Peter stayed calm. "I know I said if you hurt her I would hurt you. But, do you want to talk about it? I can go get Ed, and the two of us can listen to what you have to say."
"If you promise not to hurt me in any way."
Peter chuckled. "I promise. Let me go find Edmund."
Caspian stood awkwardly waiting for Peter to come back. A few crew members walked past him saying things along the lines of, "Good evening, your majesty." Eventually, Peter came back with a confused looking Edmund. Edmund asked, "What did you do this time."
Caspian replied, "More like what I didn't do."
Peter and Edmund exchanged a look, the three went to a part of the beach that no one was at. They sat in the cool sand with only the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Peter and Edmund gave an eager look to Caspian for him to talk.
Caspian sighed and let out what he had to say. "Marianna kissed me, I didn't stop and Susan saw it."
Both Peter and Edmund's eyes shot open. Edmund gave him a long that said you're screwed. Peter asked, "Did it mean anything to you?"
"No! No! Of course not! It's just that, I didn't push her away because I didn't want to hurt Marianna. Susan just thought it was because I was enjoying it."
Peter nodded, "I guess that's why Susan wanted to leave this island. She's probably in the tent right now, crying."
Caspian put his head in his hands. "What do I do? It seems like if I try to talk to her, she won't listen. She hates me."
Edmund said, "I can talk to her for you."
"No. I don't either of you to get involved. It's my mess."
Peter said, "I think, if you give Susan some time, she'll listen. She just needs to think things through herself. She has to realize sometime, she can't stay mad at you forever."
Susan ran to the tent and picked up Caspian's pillow. She threw it out of the tent with tears falling from her face. She saw Lucy sleeping, and Susan knew this wasn't the place to be upset. She ran back into the weird forest and stayed close to the beach. She felt betrayed, cheated, and like her heart had been ripped into two pieces. Between her sobs she heard the whisper of her name again like she did earlier.
She turned around, and Aslan was standing right behind her. She cried while she asked, "Oh, Aslan. Did I make the right decision marrying Caspian?"
Aslan sighed at the sad sight before him and said, "I have no say in what decisions you make Susan. You need to follow your heart, but that is not why I'm here. You're eyes deceive you and so do your feelings."
Susan wiped a tear away. "I don't understand."
"Susan, you are a lot more pregnant than you think you are. You've been at sea a lot longer than you think you have. You've been out here for four months. You're four months pregnant. Open your eyes."
Susan blinked once and looked down at her now somewhat big pregnant bump. She gasped at the sight. "Why haven't I noticed? Or any of the crew members?"
"The island is deceiving you like I said before. No one has noticed because the island doesn't want you to. The island will trick you. It's hidden in plain sight. Tell your crew about the four months. They'll finally see."
Susan was confused. "Will we find the island now that we're aware?"
Aslan shook his mane. "You'll find it when it wants to be found."
Susan gasped in realization. "How pregnant is Louise?"
"She's eight months. You might want to let Peter know that. He won't make it for the birth. Even if he heads back now."
Susan had a sad look on her face, sadder than before. "I'll tell him."
Lucy came out from behind a tree and said, "Aslan! I couldn't take it anymore, I followed you Susan."
Lucy ran to Aslan and hugged his fluffy mane. Aslan chuckled, "Hello dear one."
Lucy looked at Susan. "I heard everything. I can't believe you're that pregnant. How can the island mess with our brains?"
Aslan smiled at Lucy's jabbering. "The island is magically like many things on this one. Like the giant and the sorcerer."
Lucy was confused by the last part. "Were those things messing with our brains?"
"No, unfortunately, those were all real dear one."
Susan and Lucy looked at one another and looked back at Aslan. He was gone. Lucy yelled, "But I wasn't done asking questions!"
Susan put a hand on her shoulder. "I know. He's leaves when he thinks we're ready."
Lucy placed a hand on Susan's bump. "So its been four months...huh?"
Susan smirked. "I guess so. I just can't believe I didn't recognize the change in my own body."
Lucy gasped, "That means you're in the second trimester."
Susan grabbed her stomach and smiled and the life inside her. "I know."
Lucy smiled at the sight and her smile dropped automatically. "Why were you crying Susan?"
Susan bit her bottom lip. "Umm...Markell. I'm still trying to get over everything."
"I don't think that's why, Susan."
Susan then blurted everything out to Lucy. Everything she saw with Caspian to the enemy she defeated. Susan let tears fall again from thinking about everything. At the end of Susan's spill out, Lucy looked like she was about ready to cry alongside her sister. Lucy didn't want Susan and Caspian to be fighting on their anniversary trip.
Lucy said sympathetic, "Well, Marianna probably kissed him, if she liked him or something."
"Then why didn't he pull away?"
Lucy sighed and tried to change the subject. "You need to tell the crew what Aslan said. Have them all open their eyes."
"I don't think I can. I'm too broken down and vulnerable. You tell them Lucy."
Lucy drug Susan to the campsite. Susan stood next to the campfire, and Lucy stood on the same table Susan did to get a search party. Lucy yelled, "I have an important message from Aslan, himself!"
By this time Caspian, Peter, and Edmund were back at the camp all ready. Everyone's attention was turned to Lucy. They all wanted to know what the great lion had to say. Lucy continued, "We've been on this voyage for four months. Open your eyes and you'll see the differences. The island wants to play with our minds!"
All of the men chattered among one another. Some had more facial hair and beards than others. But most attention was towards Susan. Everyone saw here pregnant baby bump now. It was very noticeable. Caspian saw the bump as well. He wanted to touch where his child was being formed. He wanted to kiss Susan. He wanted to let her know everything was going to be okay, but he couldn't right now.
Rose looked at Susan and frowned at her bump. She needed to rid of the child before it was too soon.
Well there you have it. If you didn't like Marianna before, now you absolutely hate her, or you were just wondering about her, you probably hate her too. Please review, follow, or favorite! :)
