Shadows of Knowledge

Summary: Kaiba has failed another year of high school due to how much school he's missed. Yugi and Ryou are in the same boat. The board of Kaiba Corp and his investors aren't happy. Instead of staying at Domino High School for another year SetoKaiba sets up his own school with plans to learn more about the Shadows.

Chapter Four

It was late evening before Yugi and the other's came out of the memory world. Joey was carrying unconscious Ryou on his back. It was only Seto and Ishizu waiting outside the wards. The others had come and gone a few times during the day. He'd managed to convince Mokuba and Amane to wait at home. Bill asked for Ishizu to send him an owl as soon as the wards could be bought down. Mr Bakura had left the museum, still as oblivious as ever.

"What happened to the Thief King?" Ishizu asked.

"I temporarily sealed him in the ring." Yami told her.

"The evil in his heart, did you cleanse it?" Set asked.

"I did. He needs to recover. Set, you knew my name the whole time." Atem replied.

"I did my Pharaoh, but it was up to you to discover your name on your own." Set replied.

"I have my memories back. I remember everything." Atem hugged him.

'Hey, no hugging with my body.' he told the ancient spirit who was currently in charge.

Yugi smiled. 'Let them be. Yami ... I mean Atem has finally remembered the connection they had. It's much like the one you have with Mokuba.'

'So what happens now?' he asked the other boy who was in spirit form.

'Yami ... I mean Atem knows how to cross over. He has people on the other side.' Yugi replied.

'Do you want him to cross over?'

'No. I don't see what the rush is. But now he has his memories of his past connections, he wants to see everyone again. What about you? Do you want Set to cross over?'

'I'd love to be rid of him. I'm still trying to adjust to having him around all the time. He's got other ideas. I don't think he'll leave me alone till he's married me off to someone. Or a whole harem. He doesn't even care if whoever I marry is a man or woman.'

Yugi laughed. 'Is that how you got to the discussion about Tea having a reverse harem?'

'He makes comments like that all the time. I don't even have to encourage him. You should hear what he has to say about Ishizu. I hope I don't end up like him when I'm an old man.'

"Isn't it weird seeing Kaiba hug someone that's not Mokuba." Joey said to Tea and Tristan.

"I agree. Except it's not Kaiba in charge, it's Set." Tea replied.

Set and Atem walked towards the mummy that had split. Followed by Kaiba and Yugi.

"He was your father." Atem said.

"He was. I didn't know him as a father. He was my teacher. He was a good man. He had the best intentions when he created the items, even though he went about it the wrong way. Eventually he became corrupt from the items he created. Came obsessed with putting me on the throne. Do you know the reason why mother and I left the palace?"

"Wasn't it because of the creation of the items?"

"That was part of it. The other part was due to who my mother was. She was meant to marry your father. The princess of the kingdom our kingdom was fighting. Mother left the palace because my grandfather wanted me on the throne as a puppet king."

"And yet you ended up as Pharaoh anyway."

"I never wanted to be Pharaoh. But I also wasn't going to hand the position over to anyone else when everyone else was gone. I also wasn't going to be a puppet king. I was King in my own right. Used to frustrate the council when I would go off and do things my own way."

"I can imagine" Atem chuckled. "Kaiba does the same with his board of directors and share holders."

"That he does."

"Set, this belongs to you." Atem said, holding out the Rod.

"Not anymore. It belongs to my chosen descendant now." Set replied.

Seto found himself back in control of his body, as did Yugi.

"I guess I'm meant to give this to you." Yugi was still holding out the rod, as Atem had been moments ago.

"I don't want it." he replied.

"Well it's yours whether you want it or not." Yugi argued. "So you're going to take it. And you better look after it. I better not hear about Death Eaters getting the Rod."

"Oh please, this things safer with me then it ever would be with you."

Seto eventually snatched the Rod out of Yugi's hand. "Do we put the other items back into storage?"

"Ishizu and Ryou will look after their own items of course. The rest can go back into storage. We'll need to decide what we're going to do with them before we start at the Duellist Academy.

"We'll need to bring the other items with us when we start at the academy. I don't like the idea of them being a large distance away in case anything happens."
