This chapter is most definitely not a filler, You'll see what I mean. Hope you enjoy!
Caspian walked out of the room and looked for something to do. He saw Edmund steering the ship and looking annoyed from Eustace's rambling about ships. Caspian decided to help him out. He walked up the stairs and said, "I can take over for you. If you want."
Without a second thought Edmund said, "Yes!" He had a look that said thank you. After that, Edmund ran down the stairs to get away from his rambling cousin.
Caspian started steering and Eustace asked, "Would you like to know about the boats and ships we have in England?"
"Why not?" Caspian wondered why this England was so amazing. He only heard in stories about some strange thing called light bulbs and electricity. He was glad that Narnia didn't have all that stuff, he liked it the way it was. Caspian zoned out a little when Eustace was talking and would give the occasional nod.
Caspian saw Rose eyeing him. She shook her head like she felt pity for Caspian. He didn't go and talk to her, he was mad about what she tried to do earlier. Eustace then asked Caspian, "Isn't that just amazing?"
Caspian smiled, "Most definitely. I can't believe you have that stuff in England."
Caspian caught the door to his room open and Susan walk out. She had a scared look in her eyes and looked straight at him. Caspian asked Eustace, "Can you steer the ship?"
"But I've never actually..."
"You'll do fine." After that Caspian ran down to Susan and asked, "What's wrong? Was it a nightmare?"
Susan nodded her head without a word. She whispered, "It felt so real, Caspian. I saw our baby die and then I went right afterwards."
Caspian pulled her into a comforting hug. "It was just a dream. I won't let anyone hurt our baby, Emerson."
The name of their baby made it feel so much more real to Susan. She pulled away and smirked. "So you do think it's a boy?"
"Yes and right when he's born, I'll teach him how to sword fight."
Susan giggled. "Like father, like son."
Edmund was standing by himself and watched as the rest of his family were doing something. Caspian and Susan were together. Lucy and Frederick were conversing, and Peter was helping Eustace steer. Edmund felt a little lonely, but he liked having time to himself. Rose came over to him and said, "It sucks being lonely all the time. Doesn't it?"
Edmund looked at her confused. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"I mean I'm just getting used to being all by myself. You're by yourself all the time. Your family barely acknowledges you. Everyone of them is too much in love with their spouses or mates."
He knew Rose had a point, but his family is always there for him and loves him unconditionally. Edmund said with anger, "You have no right to make that assumption."
Rose sighed, "I know." She then pulled out some magic dust she was working on and blew it onto Edmund's face. She said while doing it. "Your whole family hates you. I'm the only one that cares about you."
Edmund's eyes turned purple and then back to his normal color, while saying the words, "My whole family hates me. You're the only one who cares about me."
Rose smiled as Edmund glared at Susan. Susan noticed it and walked over to him. She asked, "Why are you glaring, Ed?"
Edmund said with pure hate, "Why don't you back to snogging Caspian? You don't care about me."
Susan was truly hurt. "Edmund, I do care about you. You're my brother, if something's bothering you, you can always tell me."
"You're bothering me!" Edmund stomped away and down to where the hammocks were. Susan's jaw dropped and wondered what she did to him.
Caspian put a hand on Susan's shoulder and asked, "Everything all right, love?"
Susan pushed his hand off of her. "He's right. I think I've been spending too much time with you and not enough with him. I'm going to talk to him."
Susan ran down to where the hammocks were. She went straight to where Edmund's was and saw something very unexpected. Edmund was kissing Rose. It became awkward when Susan cleared her throat, which made Rose and Edmund stop. Edmund said, "I told you leave me alone, Susan."
Susan had her head down to hide her pink face as she said, "Technically, that's not what you told me."
"Well then, leave me alone, Susan." Susan walked slowly onto the deck. She didn't understand anything that was going on right now. She wished Edmund would just tell her what's going on.
Lucy saw the sad look on her sister's face and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Edmund hates me for some reason and to top it off, I just saw Edmund and Rose snogging on his hammock."
Lucy was definitely surprised. "Why would Rose snog Edmund, when she just lost Markell?"
"It beats me. She's probably still going through some depression thing."
Lucy sighed. "We should give Edmund some time. I don't know what's wrong with him, but if he's upset, he's normally best to handle it on his own."
"I know, but what is going on?"
"You never know. It's Narnia, something crazy always happens."
It was dark on the pirate ship, and Markell was in his cell. Markell took a hair pin out of Rose's hair. He tried to pick the lock on jail cell door. He heard footsteps come to the cell. He swiftly and quickly moved to Rose's side. A pirate came by and opened the cell door. Markell put himself in front of Rose protectively. The pirate said, "The captain wants both of ye in his quarters. I would get moving."
They both stood up and walked out of the cell. Rose was clutching onto Markell's arm as they walked. It was loud on the deck of the ship. Some men were singing and getting drunk. It smelled of rum and whine on the ship. Markell looked at Rose, and she had a disgusted look on her face. Markell joked, "And you would yell at me for drinking too much."
Rose smiled lightly. "A bottle of whine is too much."
As they got to the door, their smiles fell flat and faces became serious. They entered the room, and Bilias was standing by his desk. He was reading something. When he heard the door close, he said, "I have a letter from my mother, Adeline. You're precious Narnians think you're dead, King Markell. Also, Queen Susan is more pregnant than thought to be. The Narnians have been at sea for four months."
Markell spoke up. "That can't be true."
"Oh, but it is. The island tricked them, just how it always tricks men on the sea. Just open your eyes King Markell, maybe you'll actually see for the first time in a while."
Markell listened to what he said and opened his eyes. He felt his face, which had more stubble than it had. He looked at Rose, who looked exactly the same, except for one detail. Bilias saw it as well, "I think you need to explain something to your husband, Queen Rose."
Rose sighed and touched her slightly bigger stomach and said, "I'm pregnant."
That same night on a different ship, Peter was sending an important letter home. He couldn't believe it took him all day to compile his thoughts onto paper. He had a long apology for Louise and the baby. He also told her all the things she missed and how much he missed and loved her. He didn't know how emotional that letter would make him feel. While he was writing at some points, he felt lumps in his throat. He swallowed them back and just continued to write the letter. He gave the letter to a raven. It flew away off the ship and into the starry night. Peter smiled as he watched it leave.
Lucy came from behind him and asked, "What are you smiling at?"
"My heart."
"What? Peter are you drunk again?"
Peter chuckled, "No. I wrote my whole heart into that letter. I hope Louise understands everything."
"She will. She loves you and cares about you. She'll always understand. Just like how Susan and Caspian always understand each other, in the end."
Peter nodded in agreement. "When did you grow up, Lu?"
"A while ago, you know I kissed a boy already."
Peter put on an unamused face. "Don't remind me. Don't think I can't see the two of you on this ship."
Susan walked to Lucy and said, "Uh, oh. Is Peter trying to talk you out of kissing boys?"
Lucy giggled. "Kind of. How did you know?"
"I used to get that face all the time. Well, sometimes I still do. Just watch."
Caspian walked by holding maps, he was taking them to the wheel of the ship. Susan pulled on his collar and before Caspian could say anything, Susan locked her lips with his own. She tried to deepen it a little, and Caspian ruined it by saying, "Watch the maps."
She pulled away to see Peter's famous face. She laughed and said, "See? I'm married and I still get that face."
Caspian shrugged his shoulders and walked away with all his maps. Lucy sighed and looked at her brother and sister. "What is it like to be married?"
Susan smiled brightly. "It's the most amazing thing ever. You feel inseparable, like nothing can break your bond. I mean some things can hurt the bond. For example what just happened to Caspian and I, but the night of your wedding is probably the best thing ever."
Peter's eyes popped out in bewilderment. "Okay enough about marriage for today Lucy."
Lucy raised an eyebrow and asked, "What? Was your wedding night not the best thing ever, Peter?"
"Well...yes...I mean, what am I even saying?"
Susan and Lucy laughed at their big brother. Susan said, "Awww. Are you flustered? I never knew Louise was that awesome."
Peter turned a brighter red and walked off, while Susan and Lucy were laughing. Susan then felt something and gasped. Lucy stopped laughing and asked, "What's wrong?"
Susan smiled the brightest Lucy's ever seen Susan smile, since her wedding day and the proposal. Susan said, "I felt him. I felt him move, Lucy!"
Lucy giggled with amazment. "I can't believe it! Susan! This is the best day ever! Other than Edmund being all weird."
Susan sighed, "Don't remind me about that. Maybe, if Peter talks to him, brother to brother. Peter can actually talk to him."
Lucy nodded. "I'll go find him."
Lucy went after Peter. When he saw her, he said, "I don't want anymore discussion on wedding nights, Lucy."
"No. Peter, wait. You need to talk to our brother."
Peter turned to Lucy. "Why? What happened?"
"Susan feels as if he hates her or something. If you could just go talk to him."
Peter rolled his eyes, thinking it was just Susan's hormones again. "Fine. I'll let you know how it goes."
Susan went up to the wheel of the ship where Caspian was talking to another crew member about directions. Susan asked, "Where are we sailing to next, captain?"
"I don't know exactly. Every ship that went looking for this island never found it, or went missing."
Susan pursed her lips and thought for a second. "If the island's in plain sight, why hasn't anyone found it?"
"Because it hides itself?"
Susan nodded and paced. "The island is guarded by everyone's fears and nightmares. People have to face those fears to find the treasure on the island." She thought some more before adding. "Maybe some people's fears have happened. The giant, the storm, the indians, the pirates, the sirens?"
"Is my brilliant wife onto something?"
Susan nodded, "What if those things were people's fears? We find the island when the minor fears are conquered and the major fears are on the island to find the treasure."
Caspian was amazed and impressed at the same time. "So where all the bad things are, where they happened, is closest to the island?"
"No. I think the island is leading us to our fears, which will lead us to the island. We need to learn other people's fears and fast."
Caspian told a crew member to write down other crew members fears on parchment and to report right back to him when finished. Caspian smiled at Susan and said, "You never cease to amaze me."
Susan then remembered something important. "Another thing that will amaze you is I felt our little Emerson move today."
Susan saw the bright smile on Caspian's face. It was the same one he had on when she walked down the aisle and when she said "Yes!" Caspian picked her up and spun her around. He gave her a big passionate-loving kiss, when he pulled away Susan said, "Not in front of the crew."
Caspian chuckled. "I can't believe it! My baby is actually in there." He touched her bump lightly and Susan smiled down at him.
When he stood up, Susan asked, "Are you doing anything tonight?"
"I'm steering the ship the full night, I can have some crew members watch our door to make you feel more safe."
Susan nodded, "That would actually help with you not there."
Peter went down to where the hammocks were and went straight to Edmund's. Edmund saw who it was and turned away from Peter. Peter asked, "Is there something wrong Ed?"
"Wow, is my brother actually talking to me? I thought he was too depressed about missing Louise."
"Edmund. I always talk to you."
"But you never really want to. You just want to go back to your precious Louise. You never care about me, Peter."
Peter had a look of confusion. "What is your problem? You know I always come to you before my wife. I've always cared about you, Ed. You're my only brother. I mean sure, you annoy me sometimes, but I annoy you too."
The real Edmund knew Peter was right, but the enchanted Edmund thought different. Peter saw some purple in Edmund's eyes as Edmund yelled, "You're just saying this because I'm mad at you. Go away!"
Peter saw the purple and knew something was wrong. Peter walked away and back on the deck. He saw a crew member run around and ask another crew member, "What's your worst fears?"
The other responded. "Losing my family, the White Witch rising again, and Narnia losing a war."
Peter was confused and just walked away. He walked up to Lucy and just shook his head. Lucy let out a deep sigh and walked away. Frederick stood beside her and said, "I heard your deep sigh and decided to be your knight in shining armor. Want to talk about it?"
"There's nothing to talk about. Edmund will get out of his funk eventually."
Peter still thought about the purple in Edmund's eyes. He saw Caspian and Susan laughing and talking up on the top deck. He ran up the stairs and asked Susan, "Do you have any books on magic in your cabin?"
Susan looked at Caspian and back at Peter. "I think I brought one, but it's on old Narnian magic. Why?"
"I think someone cast a spell on Edmund. I saw purple in his eyes when he yelled at me."
Susan started to feel panicky again. She thought 'What if a traitor is on the ship again? What is someone goes after my baby?' She let out a deep breath and closed her eyes. When she opened them, she grabbed Peter's hand and took a lantern with them. They went into the cabin and Susan went to the book shelf. She pulled out an old looking book and handed it to Peter.
She handed him the lantern, and he sat at the desk. On the desk was Susan's bow and arrows. Susan said, "Have fun." Peter opened it up and tried to look up something about purple eyes.
Susan went back out to the deck and saw Caspian reading over a paper silently. Susan held her belly as she walked up the stairs to him. He said, "Susan. There is something, a fear that almost everyone has. Almost everyone has something about the White Witch. I've only heard about her in stories and seen her in ice, but how bad is she?"
Susan was shaking. "She will obliterate anything that's in her path or anything that gets in her way. She almost killed both of my brothers and Aslan."
By hearing the words almost killed Aslan, Caspian was shell shocked. He saw Susan shaking and pulled her into his arms. She whispered, "Caspian, I'm scared of her."
Caspian rubbed her back soothingly and saw Peter come up the stairs with the book. Peter saw Caspian in an embrace with Susan and asked, "What's wrong?"
Before Caspian could say anything, Susan pulled away and said, "Nothing. Did you find anything?"
"For once, yes. Here look." Peter pointed to a page and read from it,"With this charm, the creature does or thinks what is told to them. If the eyes turn purple the charm is working. If the eyes turn purple again, the charm might be breaking from words of another that mean the opposite of what you say, and the creature starts to believe them."
Caspian questioned, "So, Edmund is under a charm that makes him think, what?"
Susan shook her head, "I don't know, but he did seem like he hated me, because he thought I hated him."
Peter said, "It felt like that for me as well. I'm going to talk to Lucy about it."
Susan watched as her brother walked away and felt her eyelids getting heavy. She looked back at Caspian. He said, "You look really tired. It's been a long day, how about you go to bed and I'll get the crew members."
Susan went into the room and went towards her arrows on the desk. She fiddled with one until Caspian came into the room. He said, "Everyone's outside. I'm going back up to steer the ship. Will you be all right?"
"I'll be fine, after some sleep."
Caspian made his way over to Susan and gave her a long kiss goodnight. By the end of the kiss, her fingers were entangled in Caspian's hair, and his hands were on her waist. She stared into his eyes and whispered, "You better go before I regret you not sleeping here tonight."
He chuckled, "Goodnight Susan." He gave her one last kiss before leaving. She smiled at the door and made her way to the bed. Her eyes fell before she knew what was happening.
Susan woke up to a hand covering her mouth. At first, she thought it was Caspian being funny. She opened her eyes and there was nothing funny about what she saw. She saw Adeline on top of her saying, "Shhh, it's okay Queen Susan. It will be over soon."
Susan tried to scream but nothing could be heard from the hand covering her mouth. Adeline said while chuckling, "There's no use screaming. Everyone's asleep except for King Caspian and two other crew members who are with him. He can't hear you from here. Also, if you were wondering, the men outside your room, I put a spell on them to sleep for about ten minutes. So as I said it will be over soon."
Susan tried to move out of Adeline's grasp but couldn't. Adeline pulled out a small dagger and smiled. "I'm going to kill your child, Queen Susan. Then I'm going to kill you."
Susan was couldn't fathom what her hears had just heard. Susan tried to scream for help again. As the knife came at her stomach, Susan bit Adeline's hand. Adeline groaned in pain and let go of Susan just enough for Susan to kick her off. Susan headed for the door, but Adeline had the knife at Susan's throat pulling her back. Susan was holding Adeline's hands so they wouldn't get to her neck.
Susan ended up falling back and getting her cheek cut. Susan saw her arrows on the desk and ran towards them. Adeline tripped Susan on her way making Susan fall prone to the ground. Susan got up, and Adeline cut Susan's arm. Susan grabbed one of the arrows on the desk and cut Adeline's leg. Adeline yelled in pain.
Adeline realized how loud that was and started to run out of the room. Susan screamed. Susan screamed as loud as she could for someone to hear her. Susan felt the blood from her cheek fall down her face. She heard the door blast open, and Caspian and two crew members were there. Caspian saw Susan up against the desk with blood on the one side of her face and an arrow in her hand.
Caspian came to her side immediately. He put his hands on her shoulders and rubbed them in a comforting-soothing way. He yelled orders at the crew members, "Get King Peter, some water, and towels, now!"
The two ran out of the room, and Susan kept muttering. "She was here. How was she here? She tried to kill me and my baby."
Caspian looked into Susan's eyes and asked very calmly, "Susan? Who was here? Who tried to hurt you?"
"Adeline. She was here. She tried to kill me."
