Shadows of Knowledge

Summary: Kaiba has failed another year of high school due to how much school he's missed. Yugi and Ryou are in the same boat. The board of Kaiba Corp and his investors aren't happy. Instead of staying at Domino High School for another year SetoKaiba sets up his own school with plans to learn more about the Shadows.

Chapter Eight

The Shadow Wielders were sitting in the Obelisk Blue common room. Rebecca, Mokuba and Amane were currently with Mai and the non magical students. Even though Amane was magical, they all felt it was best for her to stay away from learning magic for now.

Set was in control of his body for the time being. The ancient spirit started with performing a spell that would make all the spirits visible. "Welcome apprentices." The ancient Pharaoh began. "Today will begin your lessons in advance Shadow magic. To start with, we will be working on building up everyone's stamina. Atem, how much Shadow magic do you remember from your past life."

"Only a small percentage. My knowledge is coming back to me slowly since I got my memories back about who I am." Yami Yugi replield.

"Atem, Thief. I would like both of you to practice Shadow magic while in control of your reincarnations body for an hour every day. Either in the morning or the evening. This will help build up Yugi and Ryou's stamina for magic. I will be doing the same with Kaiba. Yugi, Ryou, Kaiba. I would like you to both practice magic for an hour every day without the help of your ancient spirit. If the spirit chooses a morning session I'd like you to practice in the afternoon or vice versa.

"We will start with using the items to mediate the magic. Once you are used to using Shadow magic, we will then begin practicing magic without using the items to mediate our magic. If we were still in my own time, you all would've been well versed in Shadow magic before even handling an item.

"Today the ones born of this time will be practicing summoning monsters and creating shadow portals. Choose one of the weaker monsters in your deck to summon. This includes you Ishizu. Once you have chosen your card, show it to me."

He found himself back in control of his body. He pulled out his deck and choose Saggi the Dark Clown. He wasn't sure it was weak enough for Sets liking. It was a level 4 monsters. But it was one of the few cards that was still in his deck that he'd had since he was a child.

Yugi was predictable with his choice and choose Kuriboh. Ryou chose Happy Lover. He wasn't the only one who'd chosen a level four attribute card. Ishizu had chosen a card called Keldo.

"Good choices Yugi and Ryou. Ishizu, you've already had extensive training so I don't see any issues with your choice." The spirit looked at his choice for a good minute before he finally answered. "Even though this is a higher attribute card then I intended, it's a good choice for you. Saggi should respond to your summoning a lot better than a weaker monster you have no connection with."

Set went through how to summon the monsters. "Once you have your monster summoned, I would like you to keep them in this realm for as long as you possibly can."

Summoning Saggi came far easier then he imagined. Yugi also summoned Kuriboh with relative ease. Ryou on the other hand had issues with summoning his monster and keeping it summoned. Kuriboh was purring at Yugi, and loved the attention he was getting. Ishizu was having a conversation with her monster. He felt at a loss of what to do with Saggi now that he'd summoned the monster. Did he talk to the monster? Coddle it like Yugi and Ryou were doing with their monsters. Ask it to do something?

Sensing his discomfort Saggi bowed to him. He smiled at his loyal monster. He didn't need to do anything. This was enough. He wasn't like the others and didn't need to be. His monsters could sense his desires without him speaking out loud.

"Very well done. I'd like you to practice summoning the monster you choose today during the week. Next we will work on summoning Shadow portals." Set announced after a good 40 minutes.

Yugi struggled with the Shadow Portals. To Ryou they came with ease, that in itself wasn't surprising considering how often the Thief King travelled via shadow portals. He had to admit even though he could summon a portal it was a lot more draining then summoning his monster had been.

They kept their portals open for 40 minutes. He and Yugi where both sweating by the time they were done.

Joey entered the common room with Serenity, Amane, Rebecca and Mokuba not long after they had finished.

"You guys look exhausted." Joey commented. "Even you Kaiba."

"Priest Set worked us hard." Ryou told Joey.

"It's dinner time." Mokuba told them. "Seto, can you spend a little bit of time with me after dinner, before you start work?"

"I'm sure I can spare half an hour." He promised his brother. He really needed to spend more time with Mokuba.

He went and sat with Luna, Draco and Neville. He was surprised to be joined by Ryou until he remembered that the other boy was friends with Neville and knew both Draco and Luna.

"Marik." Ryou called out when he saw the other tomb keeper. "Where were you this afternoon?"

"Ishizu is making me attend the modern magic sessions." The tomb keeper complained. "Modern magic is hard. I'd take ancient magic any day of the week. How where the lessons?"

"Exhausting even though it was mostly recap of stuff I already know." Ryou replied.

Seto was happy to allow the others talk around him without actually participating himself.

Remus was happily drinking tea in the staff room, enjoying a few moments with his son. Duellist Academy was very different from Hogwarts. Of course only have thirty students in the whole school made a difference. It felt more like a close knit family than anything else.

"Good morning Professor Lupin." Percy greeted him.

"Please Percy, call me Remus. I'm no longer your professor."

He'd been surprised to see the third Weasley boy. He'd dealt with him as a student and head boy while at Hogwarts. Percy was a stickler for the rules. That had many students and even some teachers disliking him. As a student he'd been labelled as a stuck up tattle tale. As a teacher it worked in his favour. He took nonsense from no one. The misfit of the Weasley clan. He'd heard nothing but complaining about Percy from the four youngest Weasley children and the occasional complain from the oldest two, but that seemed more like teasing than anything else when it came for the older two. Remus had never had a problem with Percy personally. Percy was a rather professional teacher anf didn't treat Mr Kaiba differently than any other student. Remus was a little nervous around his boss. It was entertaining watching Ishizu and Mai as they liked to give Mr Kaiba a hard time. The other teachers Mr Kaiba hired tried to pamper him. Treating him like he was something special. Some of the teachers would be lucky if they lasted a year. The students, no matter what background needed to be treated as equals by the teachers.

"Sorry Remus, old habit. Hard to break. If Bill had accepted the teaching position little Teddy would have someone to play with. I'm still surprised he recommended me, I haven't exactly been on speaking terms with my family for the last couple of years." Percy pointed out.

"I've always wondered why you weren't on speaking terms with your family. Your family has always been close."

"I'm different from everyone else. Always the odd one out. I don't live for quidditch, pranks or jokes. I enjoy those things occasionally but not to the extent of my brothers and sister. I want to sit in a quiet corner and read. I like to stick to rules. They were made for a reason. The rest of my family is too noisy. Bill and Charlie, they always had each other to play with. I was the annoying little brother who was too small to do anything with them. When the twins were born they had each other and didn't like to let others in. And Ron and Ginny have each other. My falling out with the rest of the family had to do with the Order and Dumbledore. As much as I respect Dumbledore as a teacher and headmaster, I didn't like how much he was dictating my families lives through Harry. I love Harry like a brother, always have. Even when I sent Ron letters trying to get him to distance himself from Harry."

"Professor Dumbledore did have a tendency to try and dictate people's lives. I have to admit I let him dictate mine. It was nice being needed. Unfortunately for Severus doing as Dumbledore asked affected him negatively." Remus discussed.

The two continued discussing home, teachers, Hogwarts, the Ministry of magic among other things until Teddy's bedtime.
