"Well, why don't you get the divorce first?" I asked.
"I wish it was that easy!" he sighed.
"Sorry, I don't know what I'm thinking," he added, "I was just thinking that... I've lost so much time with Carlie, and I don't want to waste more time."
"Wow! So you want to date me so that you can spend more time with Carlie. You can do that without dating me, you know?" I said.
"Well, I don't know if I'd be allowed to do that. I mean, you had no intention of ever telling me about her, so how can I know for sure that you'll allow it?" he said.
"Oh and how did you know for sure that I'd have agreed to date you?" I asked.
He was being completely irrational right now!
"I don't know... I mean, considering the way we had fucked up everything, I thought you might want to give it another shot." he said.
"You are so... so..." I tried to find the correct word, "... stupid." I said.
"I am just being honest." he said, "I mean, we fucked up. Maybe I fucked up more than you did. Fine. But what next? I'm giving it a try. I know dating right now is not a good idea. I mean, Tanya will make the worst of it, but I'm just trying my luck."
"Alright. Then let me tell you something. Your luck is not working. I'm not interested in dating you," I said.
"Cool." he said.
Cool? I shook my head.
"So what next?" he said, "I'm not okay with spending just an hour a day with Carlie. I want to spend more time with her."
"Edward... She is a kid. She's in a new environment. She needs time. You don't know anything about parenting. We need to..."
"I don't know anything about parenting because you didn't allow me to learn anything," he said.
"And I'm sorry for that." I said,"But that doesn't mean we need to do more stupid things."
"So what should we do?" he said.
"I don't know." I said, "But we certainly should not date each other."
"I agreed on that already." he sighed, "So I guess I just need to wait till Carlie is ready."
"Yes." I said.
"Alright." he said, "As if I have got any other choice."
"You're behaving like a kid right now." I said.
"Oh really? Then I guess you would know how to deal with me. You're an expert in parenting skills, after all!" he said.
"Edward... you..." I shook my head.
