The next chapter after this one will be the big family reunion where the brothers finally meet Kyle!
This chapter shows that no matter what Brax is dealing with his main priority is Casey. Aww.
Chapter 84: Casey's remorse
The next day Heath and Casey visited Brax again. He had made a fast recovery overnight and was slowly waking up. Heath and Casey sat in his room while he slept. The brothers did not have a great night sleep and so Casey had fallen asleep on the chair in Brax's room, while Heath waited for his brother to wake.
Heath saw Brax move his hand and stood up. "You're a sight for sore eyes. How you doing mate?" Heath asked with a smile.
Brax groaned. "Where's Casey? Did he get hurt?"
Heath tipped his head in the direction of Casey asleep in the chair. "Casey's fine. I got him out relatively unharmed."
"Good."
"The poor kid blames himself though for what happened. The police found most of the gang members and arrested them, so at least this wasn't all for nothin'."
"Good. Just make sure Casey is okay while I'm here, don't let him blame himself." Brax said with a groan.
"I've told him no-one blames him." Heath reassured.
Brax nodded. Casey stirred and heard voices.
"Is Brax awake?" Casey asked and rushed over to his brother.
"Hey Case." Brax smiled at his youngest brother.
"I'm so glad you're alright. I would never have forgiven myself if you didn't pull through."
Brax reached up to hold Casey's hand. "This isn't your fault."
Brax pulled his hand away and beckoned Casey to come closer. Casey bent down closer to his brother. "You can consider yourself grounded for another week though."
"What?" Casey stood up surprised.
"Heath will make sure you stick to your rules while I'm not there."
Casey looked at Heath who shrugged, "hard luck Case."
"What did I do?" Casey asked surprised.
"Need I remind you that you still disregarded an order not to leave the house and put yourself in danger?" Brax explained.
"Yeah, but…" Brax raised his eyebrows. "It'll give you time to think about how this isn't your fault."
Heath laughed at Casey's surprised expression. "Are you going to ground me every time I do something wrong now?"
"Maybe?" Brax smiled.
"Ha ha, better stay out of trouble Case." Heath laughed.
"Thanks." Casey replied sarcastically.
Brax was able to return home within a few more days. Heath and Casey were in the kitchen having breakfast when Brax walked in from lying in bed.
"Mornin' mate." Heath greeted. "How are you feeling?"
"Alright. Better if I didn't have this wound on my abdomen." He joked.
Casey however was still dwelling over everything that happened and still blamed himself for what had happened.
"You okay Case?" Heath asked. Brax placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hey mate."
"Yeah fine." Casey replied quietly.
Brax placed a plate down on the table and went to make himself some toast.
"Do you want a hand?" Heath asked him.
"I think I can manage…but now that you mention it…" Brax smirked.
"Alright, I get the hint…Don't ask." Heath laughed.
Casey looked at his brothers. "Can I tell you both something?"
Brax and Heath give their attention to Casey. "I just wanted to tell you I'm really sorry for everything I put you both through recently, if it wasn't for the both of you, I may not be here."
"Case you're our baby brother, we're gonna stick by you no matter what." Heath said.
"Besides you're a teenager, it's all part of your growing up." Brax added.
"I want to make sure you know how sorry I am."
"Case, we get it. We forgive ya." Heath replied.
"It's over Casey." Brax added, but sensing Casey still wasn't convinced, Brax continued. "Do I have to ground you for longer, to give you time to stop blaming yourself?"
"What? No…I was just saying…" Casey protested, while Heath laughed.
Brax sat down at the table with his toast. "Good, because if I hear you banging on about this anymore and about it being your fault, I'll ground ya for another month." He smiled.
Casey sat stunned. "Ha Ha, the rate you're going Casey, you'll be grounded for life."
"Alright, alright. I'll stop." Casey pleaded.
The three brothers then laughed as they sat together at the kitchen table.
