Wishing For Luck

DRACO

DRACO COULDN'T BELIEVE HE lost the liquid luck to Harry fucking Potter. Wait yes he could Potter always got everything handed to him. At least it would seem Granger was just as irritated by Potters sudden excellence at potions. Draco himself was struggling with making the potion with the instructions given and that was his top class. He fled the classroom quickly needing to start focusing on his task. He had made a list of where the cabinet might be and figured the room of requirement might be his best option.

"Draco!" Pansy shouted, Draco looked to see her standing with Blaise both confused to where he was heading but he shook his head at them not to follow.

He headed up to the seventh floor, he wasn't quite sure how they did this. He stood in front of a large wall he had once watched Luna Lovegood go through. Closing his eyes, he let thoughts of needing to find a missing item, a cabinet, and how desperate he was to find it. He heard the sound of bricks moving and opened his eyes to see a door starting to form. When it finished he quickly entered and was met by a room completely full of random items all the way to the ceiling.

He walked around taking in everything as he searched for the cabinet. He came across a covered mirror and pulled off the sheet. Instead of seeing himself he saw his mother join him with a smile. She looked happy and safe and as he looked at himself he had his sleeves rolled up, the dark mark no where to be seen. He heard stories of this mirror, he saw himself unburdened by his task with his mother safe and happy. WIth a sigh he grabbed the sheet covering it back up and he continued walking. Finally he came across a large object covered in the center, he pulled off the sheet and there it was.

He ran his hand gently against it feeling the faint hum of magic against his palm and closed his eyes to focus on it. It was broken which of course he knew, but now it was time to continue his research. But he couldn't help and feel like maybe he didn't need the liquid luck after all. The cabinet was in the first place he looked and now all he had to do was fix it. Not wanting to waste anytime Draco quickly left the room of requirement and headed straight to the library.

He entered heading straight for the section he needed, pulling multiple books of mending magical objects. Once he was satisfied he headed to his favorite table near the back. He sat down instantly consuming the information he was finding and taking notes.

When mending magical objects you must first find the root of the problem to then determine what is to be done to fix it.

He would need to start running tests to figure out what exactly was wrong which according to the texts could be a number of things. He let our a huff of frustration and he closed the book knowing that this wasn't going to be as easy as he hoped. He held his breath as he suddenly felt that stinging gaze once again. He looked up to see her sitting across the way, her eyes held a curious shine.

Four.

He raised his eyebrow at her and watched as she quickly looked away her skin turning red. Good, she should feel embarrassed, he thought to himself and quickly gathered his belongings. He didn't pay Granger another glance as he made his way out and headed to the Great Hall for dinner. He could see Theo not far ahead entering and couldn't help but think of the laugh they shared during potions today. It was almost as if everything was back to normal before they both remembered.

Draco never did well with someone not wanting to be his friend, he found it to be of highest insult. But he couldn't find it in himself to be angry with Theo, well it wasn't like he was feeling anything other than fear at the moment.

Draco spent the next 2 weeks mapping out and testing the cabinet. He was sure he was close to figuring out everything that was wrong. He hadn't been sleeping or even eating really for he was so focused on figuring this out as quickly as he could. Professor Snape seemed to be lurking where he wasn't needed and Draco was doing his best to avoid him. He pushed the books he had aside and pulled out a piece of parchment drafting a carefully worded letter.

Dearest Mother,

I hope all is going well back at the manor. I do have a favor to ask of you which I hope will not interfere with your plans. In three weeks time we will have a Hogsmeade weekend and I would like to meet for lunch. If you could go pick up a piece of jewelry I placed on hold this summer and bring it so I may gift it to Pansy soon. Its quite beautiful and I would love to give it to her before the term ends for the holidays.

Love,

Draco

He needed to seal his letter so he grabbed his belongings and stood up leaving the library. He wandered back to his dorm to first seal his letter and drop his things before heading to the owlery. He was greeted by the sight of Pansy and Blaise in the common room both talking and laughing. Both oblivious to the way they looked at each other. He walked right past them and felt both of them watch him. When he entered his dorm, Theo was there nose buried in whatever he was drawing. He quickly put his belonging down and sealed his letter. The longer he stayed in that room alone with him the more likely he was to try and talk to him.

It wasn't hard to locate his owl Silas as he was much larger than most of the others. He softly ran his finger over the birds feathers and gently tied the letter to his leg. He backed away and watched Silas ready himself, waiting for direction.

"Take it to my mother in the manor." Draco said as Silas hooted in response before taking off.

Draco watched him go. Wishing he could be as free as the owl. He couldn't help but look down as dark thoughts clouded his mind. He wondered how quickly one died when they hit the ground, considering the factor that the higher and longer you fall might made your death as quick as possible. He took a deep shaky breath before stepping away and shaking those thoughts away. He couldn't consider that. Not yet. He could feel his hope of succeeding starting to fade but the necklace could very possibly do the job for him. He started to walk back down the stairs where half way he stopped as Granger appeared a few steps away heading up.

Five.

He watched as her eyes searched his face before holding his eyes, neither of them saying a word to the other. He wondered if he had been so wrapped up in his task that he failed to meet her eyes since the last. Why this kept happening, why he kept letting it, he didn't know. He should be avoiding her at all costs, she was curious that much he knew. He just hoped she was continue not to be too curious that she tried to figure out what was going on. He didn't break her stare as he closed the distance continuing his way. It wasn't until he was right in front of her that she pulled her eyes away and quickly continued her way up and he continued his way down.
