I'm really sorry for the wait, I've been needing to do a lot my work than usual and things have been coming at me left and right. Sorry! For those of you who actually read the manga, this might be nice. At least, I hope. I do not own OHSHC.
Sunny's POV
It was business as usual, all of us surrounding Tamaki-senpai and welcoming the guests as they came in. The most unbelievable thing about it was that the time actually went by quickly, the days turning into weeks, about a month going by. Today was the Host Club's annual Christmas party.
Haruhi and I tried our best to get them to not involve us in this event, but they would have none of it. Tamaki-senpai stated that every Host type was to attend, saying that it simply wouldn't be the same if his darling daughter and niece weren't there. Kyoya-senpai then said that everyone was just dying to see the "Natural" and "Friendly" cousins dance.
I found my new title to be very demanding of my personality, I wasn't so nice that they had to make me out to be the most open person in the group. But they all just chuckled and said that I was in fact too open with people. I didn't laugh and stood there in confusion.
Kyoya-senpai got me a dress for the occasion, it was a floor-length red gown with a slit on the right side and, thankfully, wasn't backless and I was to wear a yellow sash along with it. Haruhi helped me put my hair in an elaborate up-do, with a few curls intentionally left to frame my face. She said for me to wait for the twins and that they would help me with my makeup.
So there I was, sitting on a stool in the club room twenty minutes before all eight of us were to appear in front of the entire party. The door opened and one walked in with a bag. I looked behind him, waiting to see his brother come in after him. He didn't.
"Are you disappointed that it's only me?" he joked.
"A little," I pointedly said, smiling on the inside when I saw that my remark surprised him. "But you're much more fun to mess with."
A little smirk crossed his face as he made his way towards me. I had completely overlooked the "toy" remark that was made last month but I could tell that Hikaru still remembered his wording mistake, at times completely avoiding me.
He set down the bag and took out some things out. "Nervous?" he asked as he added on the mascara.
"Maybe just a little," I answered. "There's gonna be a lot more people than before and I'm going to have to sing in front of all of them."
"It won't be so bad," he said, taking out a sponge and staining it with some blush. "You'll have the Boss up there with you."
"But I'm the one that has to look out into the crowd."
"Are you always this nervous and negative before you preform?"
"Just about, but Kyoya-senpai said that if all goes well tonight that he'll take 100 or so guests off my debt."
"You'll have nothing to worry about, just keep your eyes at one point in the room." He took out a tube of lipstick, grabbing my chin to get a better angle. There was extreme care and precision in his glides, then he told me to smack my lips together. He handed me a tissue, and even I knew what to do with this. After I dabbed a little lipstick off my lips, I got up and straightened my sash.
"We better hurry, we can't leave your brother and the others waiting for long."
"Yeah, Kaoru gets impatient quickly," he said, walking towards the door.
I smiled a little, realizing his little game. I sashayed over to him, in two inch black heels, until I was right in front of him. "Since when did you start talking in second person, Kaoru?" I pointedly asked. Not even bothering to see his expression, I walked out of the open door and towards the large hall. "Be sure to tell Hikaru that if he didn't want to help me with my makeup that he could of just said so." I heard Kaoru's footsteps scamper after me, his fingers fixing his hair part back to the way it was.
"And here I thought that this trick would work," he chuckled.
"Don't underestimate me because of my hair color, leave that assumption for Tamaki-senpai." He was quiet for a while, giving me a strange look.
"Why is your hair blonde?" he asked. "I mean, your father was Japanese and your mother was said to be a brunette."
I sighed. "I inherited my great-grandmother's looks, it seems, she immigrated from Britain to Canada and had my maternal grandfather there. He then immigrated to the States and married my grandmother, she was a Spaniard. All that DNA then went down to my mother and then me. Genetics is a strange thing, isn't it? The blonde hair and green-eyed gene was carried around until it eventually landed on me. My grandfather went on and on when I was little, saying that I looked just like her." He had a thoughtful look on his face for a while. "Sorry, I'm probably boring you with all this travel and genetics stuff, aren't I?" I awkwardly coughed and quickened my pace. "Let's get going."
The clapping went on for a while as we walked down the stairs at the front of the hall. Honey-senpai, Mori-senpai, and Kyoya-senpai walked in front of me one our side of the stairs, while the other four walked down the other side.
Kyoya-senpai stepped forward and greeted the audience. "Welcome, welcome. I like to thank every princess here tonight that came out to celebrate with us. We have a bit of a surprise for you all this year." All at once every girl started whispering with one another, wondering what it could be. "A piece will be played by the Host Club's King on the piano-" A bunch of squeals cut him off. "Along with Miss Sunlight's vocals." There was even more excitement that came from the audience that time, I'm pretty sure a lot of it came from my clients. "Then without further delay, let us cheer for them as they perform for you."
They did, and it was loud. Tamaki-senpai stepped out of line and came over to me. "It's time, Sunny," he said, giving me his arm. I held on to it for dear life as we walked down the final steps, the girls made a path for us down the middle as we walked towards the grand piano. I still have no idea how they were able to get it from the club room to here, but I wasn't going to lose sleep over it because of it. I thought it was strange that they had it positioned right in the middle of the dance floor, wouldn't someone crash into it?
"Just relax and let the words come out. Just like we practiced," whispered Senpai. I slowly released him so he could sit down on the bench, with me standing a little to the side of him. He started playing the melody, everyone got quiet, about fifteen seconds later it was my queue to start.
Dancing bears, painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December
Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
For about thirty seconds, only Tamaki played, letting the music continue.
Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Things it yearns to remember
The music got quiet.
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December
I carried the last note for as long as possible, then gradually got softer.
The applause broke out like mad, lasting for a few minutes. Tamaki-senpai got up from the bench and came over to my side, he motioned for me to bow, and bowed himself. He gently got me out of my position and addressed the audience.
"Thank you, thank you. Now is the time to enjoy yourselves and the Host Club will be here to entertain you!"
How was this? I know that it's March in real time and the story is taking place in December, just get over it, play along and no harm will become of you. The song I used this time around was from the movieAnastasia (1997), Composed by: Stephen Flaherty, Lyrics by: Lynn Ahrens, Performed by: Liz Callaway.
