Chapter 94: Epilogue
Brax, Heath, and Kyle sat at the kitchen table having breakfast when Casey finally emerged from the bedroom.
"Morning sleeping beauty." Heath laughed.
It was only 10am, not that late after all, besides he'd just spent the last few months studying for his HSC so he deserved a break. Casey shot Heath a look.
"For your information Heath I'm allowed to sleep in I've finished school now." Casey replied.
"I know squirt, I just love teasing ya." Heath stood up and ruffled his brother's hair before heading out the door for a shift at the gym.
"Do you need me to work today Brax?" Kyle asked as Brax cleared away the dishes.
"Nah mate, I'll cover the morning shift then I've got someone covering the night. Hang out here with Case. Tell him what it's like to have a job." Brax ended in a joke.
Kyle looked to Casey shoving his toast in his mouth. Casey stopped and rolled his eyes at Brax's comment.
"I'm going for a shower." Kyle got up from the table and wandered into the bathroom.
Casey glared at Brax. "Brax! You're not going to be on my back about a job now are you? I just finished school." Casey moaned.
Brax shook his head and laughed. "Ya one of the big boys now Case, but that don't stop me pushing you in the right direction." Brax winked.
"Yeah okay, but can I at least enjoy some time for myself? Besides why can't you give me a job? I can deliver pizzas or something."
Brax put a hand on Casey's shoulder. "No way, you're better than that Case. I'll see ya later after my shift." Brax walked towards the door.
"Well don't nag me about getting a job if ya gonna be picky about it!" Casey yelled at his brother with a laugh and Brax threw a dirty shirt from the floor towards Casey.
Casey laughed and picked up the shirt, tossing it back towards his brother who had now walked well away from the house.
"Real mature Brax!" Casey shouted.
Casey cleaned up his plate and flopped down on the couch, switching on the TV. Kyle walked out into the living room.
"So this is what you're going to spend your free time doing?"
Casey shrugged and smiled at Kyle, receiving a smile in return.
"Sounds good to me." Kyle stated and sat down next to Casey on the couch and wrapped his arm around his brother. Casey laughed and pushed Kyle off.
When late afternoon arrived Brax and Heath came home from their shifts and decided a good surf was in order.
"Hi guys!" Casey yelled from the couch.
"Hi Case." Brax greeted. "Hi squirt." Heath added.
"Where's Kyle?" Brax asked.
Casey pointed towards the kitchen and Kyle came out. "Ah hey guys, how's work?"
"Same as always." Brax replied. "Heath and I are going for a surf. The weather's great out there. Hurry up and get your stuff." Brax stated.
"Awesome! Count me in!" Casey yelled and raced off to get into his surf gear.
When Heath, Brax and Casey were ready, Kyle sat back on the couch while they all grabbed their surf boards.
"Hey mate you comin'?" Brax asked.
Kyle looked away. "I don't know how to surf."
The three stood shocked. "Well then you better get a move on you've got a lot to learn." Brax added.
"I don't think I should go." Kyle said.
Surfing obviously was a special thing for three of them and even though he felt like he fitted in within the family, it was times like this that tested that.
"Aw come on, you're not a chicken are ya? We won't throw you in the deep end, we promise." Heath teased.
"Brax is a really good teacher." Casey added.
Kyle shook his head. "Nah, you three go it's your special thing."
"Oi, nah. How many times have I got to tell ya you're part of our family now? And we do things together. So get up, you're coming with us." Brax told him.
"You can't argue with that." Heath spoke.
"I wouldn't want to argue with that." Casey laughed.
"Alright you two, just get a move on." Brax shooed them out the door and glared at Kyle and gave him a head nod to get moving.
Kyle finally got up to follow his three brothers.
"Hurry up mate, ya missing all the good waves!" Heath yelled from the water.
"You ready for this?" Brax asked Kyle as they both stood on the sand and watched Heath and Casey out in the water.
"Yeah." Kyle gave a nod.
"Come on then, we've got work to do." Brax raced off toward the water with Kyle following.
After many fallouts Kyle finally got the hang of riding the surfboard. The four brothers surfed and spent the afternoon at the beach, until sunset, not having a care in the world.
Finally in their lives, they felt happy and complete. The four brothers had formed the strongest family bond imaginable and this was their reality now. It would no longer be shattered and their home no longer broken.
