INT. MAIN SECURITY – MASTIFF'S COMPOUND

From behind an energy cage cell he shares with Teezu's bodyguards and the transport pilot, Lagyot looks up.

The Doctor enters escorted by Gerund, Akaela, and two of Mastiff's men. They immediately head for the log archive; a wall of six data servers along the back. A baby-faced security officer named HOBART monitors the servers.

LAGYOT
Doctor.

The Doctor holds up one index finger to Lagyot, as if to say "one minute".

GERUND
Hobart, I need you to run a systems check on the log backup files. See if any of the files have been tampered with. Look for modified timestamps, unauthorized anonymous access, missing files, uneven file sizes, and data spikes indicative of someone piggy-backing a signal on top of one of ours.

AKAELA
(to the Doctor)
The backup files are held on an isolated server. Its only connection to the rest of the grid is manually performed at this workstation for the exact period of time it takes to backup the main files. After that, the connection is cut.

GERUND
If someone did tamper with the files, there would be a discrepancy between them and the backup logs.

Hobart punches in several commands at his workstation and reads the screen.

HOBART
Nothing out of the ordinary to report. No discrepancies found.

DOCTOR
In that case, I'm going to need him.

The Doctor turns and points at Lagyot.

GERUND
What for?

DOCTOR
Lagyot can login and access the crown's air and space traffic logs over the same time period. We can cross-reference the two and see if they match.

LAGYOT
I'm not giving them access to our servers!

GERUND
How do we know Yooli-

LAGYOT
King Yooli.

GERUND
How do we know King Yooli didn't have the records falsified to cover his own betrayal? No, absolutely not.

AKAELA
My brother has a point, Doctor.

DOCTOR
No, he doesn't. We already know yours are the ones that have been altered. At this point, I'm just trying to figure out how much.

Gerund, Akaela, and Hobart look at the Doctor, surprised.

GERUND
What are you talking about?

DOCTOR
You weren't careful enough, Gerund. You got to all of your logs, even the backups. Under normal circumstances that would have been enough. Your father would have readily given you the benefit of the doubt, as Akaela has, and trusted your data against King Yooli's, since your father doesn't trust him. But you forgot about Plaptoo Station. The commander there surrendered to us all of his inbound and outbound records from the last month as a result of our investigation into the attempt on Prince Teezu's life. I already knew that someone had taken your father's personal shuttle to Plaptoo twelve hours prior to the explosion that killed five people and injured many more, which is why I was very surprised to see no record of that trip in your logs.

The Doctor turns to Hobart.

DOCTOR
I imagine you won't find any record of that trip in the backup files either.

Hobart checks. He shakes his head.

DOCTOR
(to Gerund)
Let's be fair. How many people could have possibly altered both the regular logs and the backups and also had access to your father's shuttle?

Gerund stays silent. Akaela's eyes widen.

AKAELA
Gerund... what's he talking about?

ROSE (V.O.)
I knew it!

INT. TARDIS

Sitting behind the Doctor, braiding his "hair" (a wig), Rose claps, proud of herself.

ROSE
Teezu was giving it to Akaela, and Gerund probably didn't like it that his friend and sister were shacking up. Am I right? So, he tried to kill him.

The Doctor turns, stares at her, smiles.

ROSE
I'm right, right?

He keeps smiling.

ROSE
I'm wrong? He didn't do it?

INT. MAIN SECURITY – MASTIFF'S COMPOUND

Gerund takes a step towards Akaela, but she retreats from him, scared.

GERUND
(to Akaela)
I didn't do it.

Akaela's hand goes to her mouth. Tears form in her eyes.

AKAELA
You tried to kill Tee?!

LAGYOT
When I get out of this cell, I'll rip your throat out!

GERUND
I didn't set the bomb! I went to Plaptoo Station, but it was just to talk to Tee. You have no idea what it was like for me. He wouldn't leave me alone, and you kept apologizing for him, like you always have, but you don't know him like I do, Akaela. He's just like his father. He claims to be different, but he isn't. He's all about the money, all about himself.

DOCTOR
And you couldn't let that kind of person be with your sister.

GERUND
What? No, it's not like that. You have it backwards.

Confused, the Doctor looks to Akaela.

AKAELA
Tee and I were never... a match.

ROSE (V.O.)
Oh my god, they're GAY?!

The Doctor's eyebrow raises.

DOCTOR
That, I was not expecting.

GERUND
All the sneaking around, I couldn't handle it anymore. At first, it was fun, keeping our secret, knowing our fathers didn't approve. But I won't live in the shadows my entire life. I went to Plaptoo to tell him, if he didn't tell the King about us, we were over. He said he couldn't, that his father would disown him, he'd lose everything. His father was always insisting that the King of Hipto had to be a strong man to be a respected leader. He couldn't be some... freak. I told him it didn't matter to me. I would tell my father and he would tell his, and if they didn't approve, we could run away somewhere. But he wouldn't give it up. He wouldn't give up the life of a prince and future king. All of that was more important to him than I ever was.

LAGYOT
Disgusting lies!

GERUND
No, not lies. Truth. I loved Tee, with all my heart and body. But he betrayed our love for his father's throne.

DOCTOR
And hurt by that betrayal, you wanted revenge.

GERUND
No. I would never. I gave him an ultimatum. Plaptoo was where we always... met. We'd meet a couple of times each month. I told him the next time we saw each other would be the last if he didn't tell his father. And that's how we left it.

Gerund looks again at his sister.

GERUND
Akaela, I promise you. I only altered the logs to hide our rendezvous from father. But that's all I did. I never set any bomb. I didn't try to kill him, and I certainly didn't let any Jenu ships poison our crops.

AKAELA
I wish I could believe you, Gerund.

GERUND
Then, do it.

Akaela considers her options when an explosion suddenly rips through the wall near the servers. Shrapnel flies everywhere. Akaela, Gerund, Hobart, Mastiff's men, and the Doctor are thrown backwards. The lights turn red and an alarm sounds.

Over in his cell, Lagyot notices the power to the holding cage has been knocked out. He and his men spring into action. Amidst all the confusion, they assault and knock out Mastiff's men, Hobart, and the GUARD on duty. They collect the weapons.

Shaken, the Doctor coughs. Lagyot runs over and offers his hand, helping the Doctor up.

DOCTOR
What was that?

LAGYOT
I had the pilot activate the emergency beacon on the King's ship before we landed. Looks like my men finally got the message.

DOCTOR
And they're trying to blast the compound to rubble with us still inside? I don't think so. This is something else.

AKAELA (O.S.)
Doctor, help!

The Doctor runs over to where Akaela is kneeling at her brother's side. Blood pours from a gash on Gerund's head.

GERUND
I'm okay...

Gerund tries to stand, but the Doctor holds him down.

DOCTOR
No, you're not. We have to stop the bleeding. Sure would be nice if I had my scarf right about now.

The Doctor looks around for something to stop the bleeding and remembers the towellette in his pocket, the one he previously used to wipe off his hands of the remaining "blue paint" back on the transport. He presses it to Gerund's head and then brings Akaela's hand up to hold it there.

DOCTOR
Hold that there until I can find something better.

The Doctor checks the rest of Gerund's body for injuries when...

AKAELA
Doctor... Doctor, what's happening?

The Doctor looks up and is shocked by what he sees. In addition to now being stained with blood, the towellette glows bright blue.

DOCTOR
Oh, that's bad.

The Doctor's face drains of color, like water emptying from a bucket.

DOCTOR
We have to get out of here, right now. You two, help me get him up!

The Doctor motions for Teezu's bodyguards to help, but Akaela waves them off.

AKAELA
Wait, you just said...

A nearby explosion blows a hole through the ceiling a few feet away.

DOCTOR
Forget what I said. We have to go. NOW!

Teezu's bodyguards scoop Gerund up and they all bid a hasty retreat.

INT. HALLWAY - MASTIFF'S COMPOUND

Explosions rip through the hallway. Bodies lay strewn. The Doctor drags Akaela forward. Lagyot and the others follow not far behind.

DOCTOR
What's the quickest way out of here?

AKAELA
I'm not leaving without my father.

LAGYOT
And we're not leaving without Prince Teezu.

DOCTOR
Oh, great. Suddenly, everyone's gone all noble. What an inconvenient trait! Where was your father holding Teezu?

AKAELA
In the habitat wing, but my father will be in the command center.

Akaela moves off towards the command center, but the Doctor grabs her by the arm and drags her towards the habitat wing instead.

DOCTOR
No, he won't. He'll be with Teezu.

AKAELA
How do you know that?

DOCTOR
Because I'm the damn-bloody-damn Doctor and I bloody-damn always know everything. It really sucks.

They turn a corner just as another explosion rips through the hall.

INT. GUEST QUARTERS - HABITAT WING - MASTIFF'S COMPOUND

As the alarm continues to sound, Lagyot and his men turn the corner and arrive outside the open doors of the guest quarters. Two of Mastiff's men lay dead just inside the threshold of the room. With weapons raised, they storm the room ahead of the Doctor, Akaela, Gerund, and Teezu's bodyguards.

Teezu jumps out of the closet while holding a rifle up to Minister Mastiff's head.

PRINCE TEEZU
Don't move! Put your weapons down!

Lagyot and the pilot turn and point their weapons at Teezu. When Lagyot sees who it is, he lowers his weapon.

LAGYOT
Prince. It's me. It's okay.

AKAELA
Dad!

PRINCE TEEZU
Lagyot, I thought you were dead.

AKAELA
Let him go, Tee.

Teezu presses the rifle against Mastiff's neck.

PRINCE TEEZU
What's going on out there? Who's attacking us?

DOCTOR
It's the Jenu. They're here to rescue you.

GERUND
Rescue?

LAGYOT
What are you talking about, Doctor?

The Doctor and Teezu share a stare.

DOCTOR
But you already knew that, didn't you, Prince?

ROSE (V.O.)
It was Teezu? But, why did he-?

DOCTOR (V.O.)
I'm getting to it.

The Doctor steps close to Teezu, who then backs away.

DOCTOR
They can't abandon their man on the inside.

LAGYOT
Doctor, you're not making any sense.

Lagyot steps towards Teezu and reaches for the rifle.

LAGYOT
Let's all just put our weapons down and we can-

Prince Teezu points the rifle at Lagyot. Stunned, Lagyot freezes.

PRINCE TEEZU
I've got a better idea. Why don't you put your weapon down, Lagyot?

LAGYOT
I don't understand, my Prince. We...

PRINCE TEEZU
Do it! Or I kill Mastiff!

Teezu again points the rifle at Mastiff. Reluctantly, Lagyot drops his weapon and motions for his men to do the same. They follow his lead.

PRINCE TEEZU
(to the Doctor)
How did you know?

DOCTOR
It wasn't too difficult to figure out, not after I had all the pieces. After I tricked Mastiff into handing over the patrol logs, I knew they had been faked. Mastiff's shuttle was at the station twelve hours prior to the assassination attempt, but it didn't show up in their logs. That's because Gerund erased it to hide his relationship with you from his father.

MINISTER MASTIFF
(to Gerund)
Relationship? You and...? And Teezu?! Oh, how repulsive!

AKAELA
It's not repulsive, father. They love each other.

GERUND
Loved. Not anymore.

MINISTER MASTIFF
I'm going to be sick.

AKAELA
Why is it so wrong? Is it because he is the son of your enemy? Or because they are both men?

DOCTOR
Give your father more credit than that, Akaela. It's much worse. Isn't it, Minister?

MINISTER MASTIFF
I cannot speak.

An explosion can be heard nearby.

PILOT
The Jenu are leveling the entire building. We have to get out of here!

DOCTOR
We're safe, as long as we're with Teezu. They won't kill him. My guess is they have a tracker on him and know exactly where he is. Isn't that right, Prince? That's because he's working with them, behind his father's back. He's the only one who could have given the Jenu the aerial patrol routes so they wouldn't get caught sabotaging your crops. He had access to them because he had access to Gerund's ship when they would meet on Plaptoo Station for a little happy fun time. But then why were you at the station this morning? You weren't going there to meet Gerund again so soon. He had just given you an ultimatum about coming clean with your father, something you weren't prepared to do. My guess is you were even just a little worried he would do it for you. And you couldn't have that, because King Yooli would disown you. So, you came up with a plan to kill Gerund.

GERUND
(to Teezu)
Is this true?

LAGYOT
But the scanbots were keyed to scan for the Prince's DNA.

DOCTOR
It's true. Scanbots require a DNA sample from the intended target before they can be activated.

ROSE (V.O.)
I don't even want to know how he got Gerund's DNA sample.

DOCTOR
But scanbots, in addition to being extremely expensive, something perhaps only royalty could really squeeze into the annual budget without anyone batting an eye, are also notoriously unreliable when it comes to distinguishing between members of the same family.

Prince Teezu blinks several times, clearly working it through his head. The Doctor waits a minute for it to process.

DOCTOR
You probably thought you had screwed up, maybe contaminated Gerund's sample with your own DNA. That's why the bomb went off so soon after you had set it. But look at Gerund's head.

Teezu looks at Gerund's head, where he holds the glowing blue towellette to his wound.

DOCTOR
I used that towel to wipe my hands off on the transport. It has scanbots on it and they're reacting to Gerund's DNA. There's only one way that's possible.

ROSE (V.O.)
THEY'RE BROTHERS?!

DOCTOR
Hell of a way to find out you're adopted, huh?

AKAELA
I think I'm going to be sick.

GERUND
You're going to be sick? I want to die.

Prince Teezu's face turns dark purple. He pushes Mastiff in front of him and then points the rifle at the man's head.

PRINCE TEEZU
(to Mastiff)
Tell me he's lying!

Two blasts of blue energy come from the open doorway and down Teezu's bodyguards. As they fall, so does Gerund, who had been leaning on them for support. The Doctor pulls Akaela out of harm's way while Lagyot and the pilot duck down behind some furniture.

A team of five JENU INFILTRATORS storms the room. They wear light tan uniforms of plate armor and mosaic breathing masks. Every inch of their bodies are covered and they speak out of individual voice boxes mounted to their chestplates. They surround Prince Teezu. One of the infiltrators, the JENU CAPTAIN, taps a communicator he has on his wrist.

JENU CAPTAIN
We have the Prince. Prepare for transmat.

Teezu takes the butt of his rifle and buries it in Mastiff's stomach. The Minister falls to his knees. Blood drips from his lips. Teezu presses the rifle to Mastiff's head.

PRINCE TEEZU
Tell me it isn't true!

From behind a piece of furniture, Akaela cries.

AKAELA
Somebody do something.

Mastiff spits out a mouthful of blood on the floor and looks up at Teezu.

PRINCE TEEZU
Tell me!

MINISTER MASTIFF
I wish I could... son.

Deflated, Teezu's arms drop.

JENU CAPTAIN
Transmat in 3... 2... 1.

In a flash of light, Prince Teezu and the five infiltrators vanish.
