Chapter 18: AHU, WTF

Author Note: Hello Everyone, I'm glad you all like what I have written for this story so far. Sorry for the delay, I had a lot of personal things happen IRL and idea planning to do.

This will be a Naruto x Harem story.

IN ADDITION I HAVE WATCHED A LOT OF RWBY FAN MADE VIDEOS, READ A LOT OF RWBY FANFICTION, AND SEEN A LOT OF RWBY FANART.

AS A RESULT IT HAS INSPIRED SOME OF THE IDEAS FOR THIS STORY.

SO IF SOME THINGS IN MY STORY THAT SEEM FAMILIAR TO YOU IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM THEN YOU PROBABLY HAVE SEEN THINGS SIMILAR TO MYSELF.

I DO NOT OWN THOSE IDEAS; THEY JUST INSPIRED ME AS I THOUGHT THEY WOULD WORK WELL WITH WHAT I HAVE IN MIND.

"So what is going on exatly?" Weiss asks as the group minus Arashi, Ren, and Nora was walking towards an Air Bus station.

"Yeah I thought were going to a combat facility?" Ruby asks as well.

"We are." Naruto begins to say. "But because a few of my friends are off on missions right now we have to use an unorthodox option for a combat facility."

"How unorthodox are we talking?" Blake asks as they get on the Air Bus.

"We will be going to the headquarters for the Animal Hunter Unit or AHU for short." Naruto says.

"HUH!?" Everyone but Sasuke says, but he gives a look that says 'are you fucking kidding me'.

"So we are hunting wild life?" Fū asks.

Naruto laughs a bit. "You will have to wait and see. But be prepared for some unexpected things." Naruto warns. After some time the Air Bus arrives to a facility with a metal pyramid structure.

After saying hello to a few of the people and getting clearance to enter the group approaches sees a variety of people and Faunus training with some animals. "This seems like a really cool place." Ruby begins to say. "So will I really meet a specialist that can develop my combat abilities?" She asks.

"You will Ruby, but like I said before be prepared for the unexpected and for real combat." Naruto says back.

"That doesn't make sense." Ruby says as the group enters a savannah landscape.

"Wow." The group minus Naruto and Sasuke say as they see what Naruto called the fighting arena, which is when they see something waiting for them. "Is that an ostrich?" Blake asks with uncertainty. What the group encounters is a 9-foot tall black and white ostrich who wears three red bow ties on its neck. Though the thing that confuses most of the legs of the ostrich are somewhat armored.

"Yep!" Naruto begins to say. "His name is Condor and Ruby is going to fight him." An awkward silence takes over the group at this announcement.

"Naruto, you know this isn't a cartoon right?" Ruby says incredulously feeling a little insulted about her 'opponent'.

"Are you sure this is a good idea Naruto?" Blake asks in a worried voice. She had a few encounters with ostriches in the past and from experience she knows that their kicking power is no joke, though this was before she had developed her Aura and Semblance, but she remembered that those encounters hurt.

"I mean Condor is a bit of an asshole, but it should be fine." Naruto says confidently.

"Just keep that thing away from me." Sasuke says with an eye twitching.

"Are you sure this is safe?" Yang asks after hearing Sasuke's comment.

"It's fine Yang." Ruby says with a sigh. "Lets get this over with." She says walking towards Condor with Naruto while the others go towards the outer parameter.

"You okay?" Naruto asks with them stopping near Condor.

"I'm fine, just disappointed." Ruby begins to explain not realizing Naruto wasn't walking with her anymore. "When you said that you were taking me to see someone that could help I expected a Hunter not a bird."

"You're not all that impressive yourself Red." A new voice brings Ruby out of her funk trying to locate it. "Over here dummy!"

Ruby was about to yell out for being insulted when she sees Condor. "Umm…are you talking to me?" Ruby asks unsurely.

"I don't see any other person wearing red like you are." Condor replies to the shock of those unfamiliar with the Ostrich. Ruby tries to say something, but then Condor races forward and kicks Ruby in the stomach and then following with a kick to the back. Or at it would if Ruby didn't use her Semblance to escape in a bust of rose petals and gain some distance.

"What's going on Naruto!?" Ruby yells at her friend as the talking ostrich is running towards her and she is still running.

"I told you to be ready for real combat, Ruby." Naruto says in a serious voice. "Now fight seriously or you will really get hurt."

"I guess I really have no choice but to fight." Ruby says aloud as she stops running and sees that Condor had jumped up in the air. She uses her Semblance to meet Condor in Midair she moved her hand to grab her weapon. That's when she remembers that she let Naruto hold on to it and as a result Ruby froze for a few moments.

"Ostrich Aerial!" Condor says as he gives Ruby a powerful aerial kick to the to the head forcing Ruby to crash to the ground through a tree. Ruby gets up with some struggling and sees Condor running towards her again. Condor goes to peck at her with his beak; fortunately she dodges the peck and tries to go in closer, but unfortunately that was the wrong decision. "Ostrich Rising Dragon Bullet!" Condor says as he gives Ruby a rising kick to the stomach sending her flying high in the air.

'Okay so far this experience is terrible! I guess I should be lucky that the stupid Ostrich kicked me to hard.' Ruby thinks as she might get some breathing room in the air. Unfortunately those thoughts come to an end as she sees Condor… 'He's FLYING!?' Ruby thinks in disbelief and in panic uses her Semblance to get away before she could get kicked again to hide in a bush.

Then Condor comes flying down to slam his feet in the bush. "Ostrich Meteor Blast!" Condor says as the impact causes a small but powerful shock wave from the impact point. However, Ruby wasn't there and Condor looks around. "You can run Red, but you can't hide."

Some distance away we see Ruby hiding to catch her breath. 'This is ridiculous, how is an ostrich doing all of this!?' Ruby begins thinking. 'Okay lets think how can I beat this ostrich, never though I would think this. So aside from talking he's got strong kicking power, he is fast, he has a long neck, and he can fly for some reason. This is not looking good.' Ruby looks around trying to think of something but that is when she remembers something she talked about with Naruto when discovering her hand to hand combat potential. "It's worth a shot." Ruby says softly.

As Condor still looks around trying to find Ruby until a rock hit him in the back of the head and quickly turns around to another bush. "I've found you!" he quickly rushes over and kick the bush away to see nothing there. "What the…"Condor begins to say as he suddenly gets kicked in the head by a red blur and sees Ruby afterwards. He then kick Ruby again only to use her Semblance to move above his head mid kick and retaliates with a kick of her own. In response to this Condor tries to peck her, but using her Semblance Ruby move out of the way. While Ruby is avoiding getting attacked she is panting from exhaustion feeling the effects of the fight.

Ruby rubs her eyes but that is when Condor rushes at her. "You lose Red." Condor says only for Naruto to grab him in a forward headlock and Ruby falls back from surprise. "Get off me!" Condor says to no avail as Naruto pushes Condor on what looks to be glue. "Damn you…!" Condor yells a bunch of insult.

"You okay Ruby?" Naruto ask offering her a hand to help her up which she accepts.

"You mean aside from the fact that I was in a mostly losing fight with an ostrich of all things?" Ruby says sarcastically. "Why didn't you tell me about this?" Ruby asks.

"Would you have believed me if I told you?" Naruto asks with a raised eyebrow.

Ruby is silent for a moment. "Fair point. But that was so embarrassing; I'm not going to be able to live this down. I can imagine just imagine Weiss's lecture and Yang's teasing." Ruby complains.

"I wouldn't worry about that, just look." Naruto says pointing to the right.

"Is Yang fighting a boxing kangaroo?" Ruby asks surprised to see her sister fighting a kangaroo with two gauntlets on it's arms and one on it's tail, and with the swing of the tail hitting Yang to the ground.

Yang gets back up only to see the kangaroo hop away. "Get back here!" Yang says with red eyes before seeing Naruto and Ruby walking over to her and the rest of the group following suit. "Okay Naruto what the fuck is going on her!?" Yang asks and while normally Ruby would enforce the swear jar rule she gives a free pass as this seems justified.

"Remember when I mentioned this was the base for the Animal Hunter Unit?" Naruto asks.

"Yes, but aside from Ruby fighting an ostrich and Yang fighting a kangaroo we haven't seen any animals getting hunted. So what gives?" Weiss asks.

Naruto chuckles a bit. "You really misunderstood things princess. I never said we would be hunting animals." He reveals to the confusion of everyone but Sasuke.

"Then what exactly is this place?" Fū asks.

"This is where the people of Vacuo have trained animals to be Hunters." Naruto says.

"HUH?" Said everyone but Sasuke.

"In other words this place is basically a Hunter Academy for animals." Sasuke clarifies.

"But how?" Blake says stupefied not believing what she was hearing.

"Every living thing that isn't a Grimm has a soul." Naruto begins to explain. "Lots of people have made theories that animals could awaken an Aura and by extension a Semblance. We just decided act on those ideas and had many successes from some animals learning how to speak like us to their ability kill Grimm. Condor's 'flying' is a result of his Semblance."

"Seriously?" Ruby asks fascinated by this.

"Aside from some territory disputes the Grimm don't really attack animals that often and that makes animals ideal assassins for them." Sasuke says.

"So how far is Condor involved in the training?" Weiss asks still shocked.

"Is he like a Signal student or a Beacon Student?" Yang asks with a smirk.

'Oh no.' Ruby thinks knowing that teasing is going to happen soon.

Naruto chuckles a bit. "Funny you should mention that because Condor is actually a fully licensed Hunter."

Everyone but Sasuke has their eyes widen at the declaration. "Is he serious Sasuke?" Fū asks in disbelief.

"Unfortunately." Sasuke admits irritably.

"You mean while we need to spend four years at an Academy that Ostrich is already ahead of us?" Weiss asks in disbelief.

"Yep." Naruto says bluntly and Weiss sulks.

Ruby goes over to her partner and pats her shoulder. "Its okay Weiss, I lost to Condor remember?" Ruby says trying to cheer Weiss up.

"Ruby's right princess." The girls look at Naruto as he begins talking. "Fighting Condor has been a sort of secret initiation, so there is no shame in losing to him. Hell me and Sasuke had some difficulties with Condor when we were younger too."

"Well that makes me feel better about that whole fight." Ruby says relieved that no teasing will result from this.

"How long has this program been active for?" Blake asks.

"Three years ago on official records, at least 12 years ago unofficially." Sasuke says much to everyone's surprise.

"Well at least there won't be anymore big surprises today." Blake says out loud. If only she realized how wrong she is.

My goal for this chapter was to have Ruby develop more of her fighting potential as well as introduce a new concept of Animals having the potential to fight Grimm. Yes I know this chapter is on the shorter side but I'm also working on other stories so be on the look out for those.

1. The pyramid is based on NERV HQ as seen in Rebuild of Evangelion.

2. This was inspired from Naruto Shippuden episode episode 185 called "Animal District". Note that no bashing of any RWBY character was intended was just trying something new.

3. Condor's Semblance is basically the "Air Walk" Quirk from My Hero Academia.

4. What Naruto did to Condor was based on what Ichigo did to Keigo in Bleach episode 343.
