A/N-Thank you to everyone leaving reviews, for the follows and the favorites! I appreciate it!
To the guest that basically said everything in the story is crap-I'm sorry you feel that way, but here I will address the issues you see-Regina hasn't forgiven Emma for cheating on her, she has forgiven her for not sticking up to Snow for her the first time. She's acting kind and sweet with Emma because that's still her wife who she loves, she just has to work on getting past Emma's poor judgment. Regina in this story appreciates that Emma thought about her previous marriage and didn't want to make her feel trapped, and also, Emma doesn't think that it was ok to cheat because of what Regina did before they were married, they're just working on getting all of their feelings ok and talking about them so they can work on getting their life together back.
I hope you guys still are enjoying the story!
Emma woke up to the sound of whimpering. Looking at the clock, she noticed it was nearly 4:30 in the morning and jumped off the chaise lounge, crossing to Regina in their bed. Regina's eyes flew open as she let out a scream. Emma brushed dark strands of hair out of her wife's face and tried to calm her down so she could ask her where the pain was. Finally, Regina lifted a hand and held it over the edge of her right hipbone. Emma's heart raced as she checked Regina over but didn't notice anything amiss. She helped her wife stand, insisting that she take her to the hospital and Regina just shook her head.
"Regina! Listen to me; we need to check on this baby. What if something is wrong?"
"Nothing can be wrong! She needs to be ok," Regina cried.
"Ok, then we need to get you to the hospital." Regina nodded.
"I'm going to go to the bathroom, will you get me some clothes, please?" Emma walked the brunette to the bathroom door and went to the closet to grab yoga pants and a t-shirt and bra and panties. When she came back and helped Regina out of the bathroom, Regina turned to flush the toilet and both women saw pink sinking into the water. The brunette started wailing against Emma and so she helped her sit on the bed, leaving her clothes beside her and heading back to the bathroom to look. Even though the water made it look like a decent amount of blood, Emma knew that it wasn't severe; she could feel it in her stomach.
"Regina, I don't think you miscarried, there isn't enough blood. But sweetie, we need to get to the hospital. I'm going to use magic, ok?"
"No, Emma," Regina spoke weakly. "You promised Henry…we…we promised Henry."
"He'll understand. Do you need help dressing? Let me help you, so we can get you to the hospital."
Emma helped Regina put her clothes on, the brunette wincing anytime a movement tugged on her abdomen: lifting her arms, bending over, standing up. Emma pulled Regina against herself and they disappeared in a cloud of yellow smoke.
When they appeared at the hospital, a few nurses ran over to them and Emma begged for someone to get them some help. Regina was put on a gurney and taken into a trauma room to be looked over, one nurse staying to ask questions before following the rest of the group and Emma was left standing in the waiting room. She called David, knowing he would have kept his phone on for her since they were keeping Henry. It rang several times before going to voicemail, so she hung up and nearly threw her phone, instead choosing to call again. This time, she heard his groggy voice after only two rings.
"Hello?"
"Dad, I need you."
"Emma, what's wrong?" She heard Snow's voice in the background, asking what was going on.
"I…I don't know. She was in pain and I think there might be something wrong with the baby." She was crying, and he could hear it in her voice. "Dad, can you please come to the hospital? You…you can't tell Henry, he can't know, leave him there with Snow and please come?" Her voice was cracking.
"Emma, I'll be right there."
"I'm in the waiting room for emergency, please hurry."
"I'll be there soon, hold on, ok? She'll be ok."
They hung up and David told Snow what happened while he pulled on jeans and a jacket over the t-shirt and boxers he wore to bed.
"David, I don't want you to see Regina! You agreed when you came home."
"I am going for Emma," he explained impatiently. "She asked me to go and don't you dare tell me I can't."
"But David!"
"Snow!" David whispered as sternly as he could. "If you tell me not to go, I'm going and then I will come back for my things. You tell me I can't be friends with Regina and I'll do my best, even if it isn't a fair request, but if you tell me not to go console and be with my daughter when she needs me, there's nothing for me here, because the Snow White that I fell in love with…she would never do that."
"The Snow White that you fell in love with would have a daughter that asked her to be there."
"Don't you blame Emma for this! This is your doing. I may have kept a secret from you, but the rest of this, that's on you. Emma not wanting anything to do with you is because of you. Snow, stop this. Not being able to forgive is what has always caused the problems in our lives, just forgive me, forgive Regina and move on."
Snow looked at him and huffed, laying back down on the bed and turning her back toward David. He let out a sigh and pulled on his boots, walking out of the door to go to his truck. Shaking his head to himself, he could feel his anger at Snow building in his gut. He couldn't understand why Snow wouldn't get over it, yeah he knew he screwed up badly by not telling her the truth, but Regina was family now and Snow needed to deal with the issues and move on, Emma was fixing things with Regina and their daughter-in-law would be in their lives a long time.
The drive wasn't long, though he broke every speed limit on his route there, but there was no one to stop it so he disregarded it. Taking the stairs two at a time to get to Emma, David found her pacing and crying wearing the dress she was in when he picked up Henry the day before. She was barefoot, and shivering. The hospital was cold despite the warm temperature outside.
"Emma," he breathed, taking his daughter into his arms, wrapping them tightly around her shoulders to comfort her. She just left her arms against her chest, crushing them in their hug while she cried in his arms.
"Dad," she sobbed. "I can't live without her. I was so stupid to cheat on her and we haven't even made love in forever, what if something happens and she never knows how much I love her? I just…I…I can't, dad." Her sobs became harder the tighter he held and he stroked her hair as he held her.
After half an hour she was nearly cried out, so she composed herself and pulled away, thanking him for coming to be with her. Looking at her feet and feeling the coolness of her arms in his hands, he shrugged off his coat and put it around her shoulders, then he walked to the nurse's station and asked for a pair of socks. The nurse left to retrieve them, returning shortly with dark blue socks that were terrible looking, but he wanted to at least keep her somewhat warm. He handed them to her and she whispered a quiet thanks to him. Dr. Whale came down the hall and called her name.
"Emma." His voice was quiet, and indifferent.
"What are you doing here?" David asked.
"I work all sorts of hours, now if you would like to discuss that instead of Regina's condition, we can continue it elsewhere."
"Sorry, go on."
"Emma, it appears that Regina is having symptoms of preeclampsia. The abdominal pain you told the nurses about is a symptom of it and it can be quite dangerous if not taken care of."
"But she's ok? A…and the baby?"
"They are both ok. But they aren't out of the woods. As I said, this can be extremely dangerous, for both of them. Her blood pressure is 163 over 105 and that's far too high. Has she been drinking coffee?"
"No."
"Taking medications?"
"No."
"Doing magic?"
"No."
"Any extra stressors in her life right now?"
Emma looked at David and hung her head low. "Yes, we've been going through quite a few stressful situations."
"That can be a reason her blood pressure is staying high. We'd like to keep her to monitor it for a couple of days. We have already tested her blood and urine to be certain that her kidneys and liver are functioning fine, and they are, and there are no signs of protein in her urine. We're going to keep the fetus on a monitor and Regina is hooked up to a few machines, but we're extremely hopeful."
"Oh thank you! Can I see her? Is she awake?"
"She was awake when I left her, I cannot guarantee that she will be when you go in, she needs rest, but you can go. Room 307." Emma didn't even say a word before she sprinted down the hallway the best she could in a dress and socks with rubber grippers on the bottom. She slid a little when she was in front of the door; stopping to slow down as she entered and walked toward the bed her wife was lying in. Regina's eyes were closed, but Emma could tell she wasn't asleep, only resting. She stepped slowly to Regina's left side, brushing her fingertips against the olive forehead, moving dark locks of hair away from her face.
"Regina," she breathed. "Oh baby, I'm so glad you guys are all right." Having been so consumed by seeing Regina that she hadn't even noticed the soft whooshing sound of the fetal heart monitor coming from beside the bed, she looked up, amazed at hearing the baby, wanting to see her. Regina opened her eyes and looked up at Emma, holding a hand up to play with the hem of her dress.
"Why are you still wearing that?" Regina asked.
"I uh… I just didn't change last night."
"You were sleeping in our bedroom?"
"Um…yeah I knew you were feeling pain and that you weren't letting on how much, I had to make sure you were ok."
"So I wasn't imagining it when you were there the night before?"
Emma's cheeks colored. "No, you weren't imagining it."
Regina moved her hand to take Emma's into it. "Thank you for taking care of me…o…of us."
"Of course. That's what I'm here for. I'm so glad you guys are ok, I don't know what I would have done."
"It doesn't matter, we're here and we're fine. Are you doing fine, Emma?"
"Yes. I just…Regina…I don't…I can't live without, I'm so sorry for everything," Emma cried, her tears tracing track stains from her earlier crying session. "You…you deserve so much better, I'm so sorry." She put her face in her hands while she wept.
"Shh, come here," Regina soothed, pulling Emma to sit next to her on the edge of the bed. "It's ok. We're ok; we have all the time we need to fix things, ok? Everything is going to be fine, Emma."
The blonde wiped her tears and once again, composed herself. "What did I do to get you?" she asked, after her voice was back to normal.
"Mmm, you were the first person to forgive my past. Even Henry didn't forgive it as quickly as you did. That means something."
"Is that why you're willing to work it out with me?"
"Part of it, yes."
"What's the other part?"
"We'll talk about this later, dear. I'm tired, I'm going to get some sleep."
"Ok. Dad's here. We'll both be here when you wake up."
"Mmm," Regina hummed, halfway between asleep and awake.
"I love you," Emma whispered, leaving a kiss on Regina's forehead and going to the waiting room to retrieve her dad.
