INT. COMMAND CENTER - MARLOWE-1
Tarin enters the command center from a side door. He looks around, hoping to avoid arousing suspicion, and sees General Pollock barking orders at Desmond.
POLLOCK
No more delays! I need you to give me what you have.
DESMOND
If I switch the system on now, it could overload.
POLLOCK
Do it.
Pollock raises a walkie-talkie to his lips.
POLLOCK
Pollock to Hiller.
HILLER (V.O.)
Hiller here, sir.
POLLOCK
It's coming online now.
HILLER (V.O.)
Understood.
Tarin steps forward.
TARIN
What the hell is going on?
POLLOCK
Welcome back, Tarin.
TARIN
Back? I...
Tarin freezes.
Pollock smiles.
POLLOCK
Did you really think we weren't watching? You've been very helpful. Now, we know the Doctor's plan.
Tarin turns and races back towards the door he came in.
TARIN
Doctor! Doctor, it was a trap! They're coming!
Jackson steps in Tarin's way and delivers a clothesline that sends the station commander to his back. The private stands over Tarin with a wide toothy grin on his face.
JACKSON
Did it hurt?
TARIN
Very much.
Tarin winces.
INT. CAFETERIA - MARLOWE-1
Frick and Beers storm the cafeteria, guns ready. They look around, but find the Doctor missing.
BEERS
What the hell? Where did he go? He was just here!
Frick speaks into his walkie-talkie.
FRICK
The Doctor is on the move. Repeat, the Doctor is on the move.
Beers walks over to a table where he finds the tablet brought to the Doctor by Tarin.
BEERS
He must have run when we cut his comm link to the alien ship.
Frick points to Beers.
FRICK
Go. Go!
Frick and Beers move out.
INT. CORRIDOR - BRYGOSAN SHIP
Captain Visilimee drags Rose down the corridor at gunpoint. First Officer Mumy and a team of BRYGOSAN GUARDS are with them.
ROSE
You don't have to do this. Just listen to me. There's two Doctors!
Commander K runs to catch up.
COMMANDER K
Sir! Captain!
They stop and wait for Commander K.
COMMANDER K
My men found something in three dash two; a large blue box, about eight sigmas tall and two Brygo wide. It appears to have a door, but they can't open it.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
That must be the Time Lord's Tardis.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
What a fool, to leave it unguarded.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
We think it's unguarded. Commander K, however much security you have around that thing, triple it. Make sure they're well armed. Send the rest of your men to the engine room.
COMMANDER K
Yes, sir!
Captain Visilimee, Rose, First Officer Mumy and the guards continue on to the engine room.
INT. OUTSIDE THE ENGINE ROOM - BRYGOSAN SHIP
They arrive outside the engine room, where several security guards and Communications Officer Tet are already waiting for them.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
I want to talk to him.
OFFICER TET
It's taking some time. After his signal cut out, he disabled the comm link. I'm having to reroute through one of the subsystems.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
How did you get here so fast?
OFFICER TET
Young legs?
Mumy rolls his eyes.
Visilimee looks at a security monitor on the wall. He can see Doctor Two inside working at the jump engine controls.
ROSE
Captain, you have to listen to me. I'm telling you, that's not the same Doctor you were just talking to.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
Yes, and I'm sure it's just coincidence that the signal cut out the second we figured out where he was.
ROSE
How could he have been talking to you while also trying to sabotage your ship? Besides, you saw him. You saw he wasn't in your engine room. They're not even wearing the same clothes!
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
It would not have been difficult for him to manipulate his image.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
Just another Time Lord deception.
ROSE
Ugh! You people are so stupid!
Visilimee gives her a dirty look. She recoils.
ROSE
I didn't mean it.
OFFICER TET
I've got it. He can hear you.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Doctor, we know what you're trying to do. Stop now, release my crewmen, and open the door, or I'll kill the girl.
On the screen, Doctor Two looks up.
INT. JUMP ENGINE ROOM - BRYGOSAN SHIP
Morporo and his engineers sit together in the corner. Doctor Two holds the gun pointed at them as he looks around the room. His gaze settles on a comm station not far from where he's standing. On it, he can see just outside the door, where Captain Visilimee has his gun pointed at Rose's head.
DOCTOR TWO
I'm afraid I can't do that.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE (V.O.)
It isn't enough that your kind destroyed our world? You have to eradicate us as a species?
DOCTOR TWO
It isn't personal. There are larger things at stake than you realize.
INT. OUTSIDE THE ENGINE ROOM - BRYGOSAN SHIP
First Officer Mumy steps out of sight of the comm unit and motions to Visilimee.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
(silent)
Keep him talking. I have an idea.
First Officer Mumy runs off.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Why don't you explain it to me, Doctor?
DOCTOR TWO (V.O.)
The people on this world aren't ready for what happens if they find out you exist. If you try to jump now, everyone on the station above will be killed... by aliens. It will radically alter the course of human history. If you try to stay, they seek revenge, which will start a war. Despite your technological superiority, you're far too outnumbered. You'll lose and your race will die. If you jump to somewhere else, the people on the station still die, and the human race will still know what happened. Either way, the humans turn xenophobic and rush to arm themselves, to protect themselves against potential extra-terrestrial threats. By the time they are ready to join the intergalactic community, it'll be as conquerors. I cannot let that happen.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
You're guessing.
DOCTOR TWO (V.O.)
I am a Time Lord. I don't need to guess. I know history! If you leave, the human race is irrevocably changed for the worse. The scars of that event haunt them until they die.
INT. JUMP ENGINE ROOM - BRYGOSAN SHIP
Doctor Two's expression sinks.
DOCTOR TWO
I don't expect you to understand. And I know it's just as much my fault. None of this would be happening if it weren't for me. I can't change what happens if the humans are hurt by you, but if I stop that hurt from ever happening, they'll stay peaceful. They'll stay who they're supposed to be.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE (V.O.)
And we're just supposed to die so that can happen?
ROSE (V.O.)
Let me talk to him.
On the screen, we see Rose push her way forward.
ROSE (V.O.)
Doctor, please don't do this. There's got to be another way. I know you don't want to kill these people. Please, find another way.
DOCTOR TWO
I'm sorry, Rose. But I have to finish what I started.
Doctor Two cuts the comm link.
INT. OUTSIDE THE ENGINE ROOM - BRYGOSAN SHIP
Rose grasps at Doctor Two's image on the screen.
ROSE
Wait, Doctor, listen to me!
The image cuts out.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
(to Officer Tet)
Get it back. Get him back!
OFFICER TET
I'm trying.
Desperate, Rose turns to the Captain.
ROSE
We have to contact the other Doctor.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Are you still on that?
ROSE
He can help us! What if I can prove to you that he's out there? Would you listen to him?
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Right now, I'm not so sure a second one of him would improve our chances, considering what this one's doing.
ROSE
Officer Tet said the original message you got from the Doctor was coming from a Tardis.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Yes, which we now know was on board this ship the entire time.
ROSE
That was from the other Tardis. Can't your fancy computers figure that out?
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
How?
Rose thinks.
ROSE
What if I-?
She stops mid-sentence, clearly re-thinking what she was going to say.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
What if you what?
She hesitates.
ROSE
What if... I let you into the Tardis? Could you tell then?
Everyone looks at the Captain, who is obviously intrigued by her offer.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
If we had access to the Tardis communications systems, we could verify whether or not the signal originated from there or from another Tardis. You would give us access to the Tardis?
Rose, obviously questioning herself, looks back at the monitor. She sees Doctor Two working hard to blow up the ship.
ROSE
Just you, and I want your word that when you see I'm telling the truth, you'll agree to let the other Doctor help.
Captain Visilimee thinks.
INT. INFIRMARY - MARLOWE-1
Dr. Wainwright and Dr. Jethro continue operating on Newt, with Franco standing guard. Franco watches with interest.
FRANCO
So, like, what happens when the swelling goes down? Do you just put that piece of her skull back in? Or is it gonna be a metal plate or something?
JETHRO
A little busy to be answering questions right now, Private.
Franco nods and tries to hide her embarrassment.
A noise in the corner, like a metal clank. Franco turns, gun raised.
WAINWRIGHT
What was that?
FRANCO
Sh!
Slowly, Franco moves around the surgeons and heads for the corner. Her view is obstructed by cabinets and debris from when the earthquake struck. She walks around and over them, her footsteps silent as she stalks her unseen prey.
The ground shakes. A low rumbling grows louder.
WAINWRIGHT
Not again.
JETHRO
Cover the patient!
Wainwright and Jethro hold their bodies over Newt to protect her as a second smaller earthquake strikes. Distracted by their shouting, Franco turns, which is all the diversion the Doctor needs to hop down from a hole in the ceiling and chop the back of her neck. She falls to the ground and drops her gun. The Doctor is quick to pick it up and aim it at her as she leaps to her feet.
DOCTOR
Don't move!
Franco freezes at the sight of her own gun pointed at her, even as the tremors stop.
DOCTOR
Don't make me shoot you.
Beers and Frick storm the room, guns raised.
BEERS
Don't move!
FRICK
Put the gun down!
The Doctor pulls Franco back with him towards Newt's workstation. He keeps the gun pointed at Franco, using her as a hostage and human shield.
DOCTOR
Don't come any closer!
FRANCO
Shoot this alien asshole!
It's a standoff.
INT. COMMAND CENTER - MARLOWE-1
Desmond and General Pollock hover over Carolyn as she flips a switch. A red light indicator on one of the drills turns to green.
CAROLYN
We've got one. I could only get you one.
POLLOCK
That one's all I need. Start it up.
Desmond nods to Carolyn.
EXT. DRILL SITE - MARLOWE-1 - DAY
Hiller has the WMD mounted to the top of the drill as it begins its descent. She nods with satisfaction and speaks into her walkie-talkie.
HILLER
This is Hiller. The package is on its way. We're moving out.
She motions to her men.
INT. COMMAND CENTER - MARLOWE-1
General Pollock looks to Desmond.
POLLOCK
How long until it reaches the depth of the other one?
DESMOND
Ten minutes? Maybe less?
POLLOCK
I'll be in the infirmary.
DESMOND
General... shouldn't we be evacuating? Or something?
POLLOCK
What for?
Pollock shrugs and leaves.
Carolyn reaches up and holds Desmond's hand. They share a nervous glance.
INT. BRIDGE - BRYGOSAN SHIP
First Officer Mumy and Science Officer Jetreel speak together at her station.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
It's a short jump. That should make the calculations easy.
SCIENCE OFFICER JETREEL
It's still a jump.
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
If we do it now, there won't be any energy left in the core for him to overload it.
SCIENCE OFFICER JETREEL
But if we jump to orbit, we'll be stuck here. We'll have to live on Earth. And what if the humans don't want us?
FIRST OFFICER MUMY
At least we'll have a chance. Start the calculations. We have to finish before he does.
Jetreel nods and gets to work.
INT. COIL CORRIDOR - BRYGOSAN SHIP
Captain Visilimee and Rose arrive outside the Tardis, where Commander K has about thirty armed security officers guarding the Tardis.
ROSE
(to Captain Visilimee)
Get them all away from it. I'm only letting you inside.
COMMANDER K
Sir?
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
How do I know you don't have people inside waiting to ambush me?
ROSE
You're just going to have to trust me.
Captain Visilimee points the gun at Rose's left eyeball.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Generally speaking, young lady, the person holding the gun doesn't have to trust anyone he doesn't want to. Now, open the damn door, or I'll shoot you through the face and deal with your Doctor on my own terms.
She sighs.
ROSE
Fine.
Rose walks up to the Tardis door, Captain Visilimee right behind her. Commander K walks up next to him.
COMMANDER K
Sir? What's happening?
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Stay close. Be ready for anything when that door opens.
Commander K nods first to the Captain, then to his men. Everyone stands ready as Rose reaches out and opens the door.
INT. TARDIS
Rose enters the Tardis first, followed by Captain Visilimee and Commander K. The Brygosan men have their weapons ready.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
So, this is what the inside of a Tardis looks like. Many a Captain has dared to dream the moment I'm having right now.
COMMANDER K
It's bigger on the inside. A lot bigger.
Some of Commander K's men stand just outside the Tardis and look in, as if little children too afraid to step foot inside mommy and daddy's room.
Rose walks towards the hatch she has opened twice before, but as she begins to lift her arm to reach for it, Visilimee yanks her back.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Nuh-uh. You don't touch anything.
Rose lowers her head.
ROSE
All right. The communications station is over there.
Visilimee walks over to where Rose points. He puts his hands on the controls.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
So it is.
COMMANDER K
With the power of a Tardis at our disposal, we can undo the entire war. We can go back and change everything, bring our entire race back.
ROSE
That wasn't the deal.
Rose eyes the hatch.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Oh, we'll be changing the deal. But don't feel too badly. When we get our planet back, we won't need yours. Your world will be safe. My world will be safe. Everyone gets what they want and none of this will ever even need to happen.
He points the gun at her.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
We'll take it from here.
ROSE
No!
Rose makes a break for the hatch and leaps into the air.
Commander K moves to intercept her.
Captain Visilimee fires.
Rose's hand grabs the hatch and it opens. Glowing orange energy pours out along with long tendrils that wrap themselves around Rose just as the energy blast from Visilimee's gun misses her and heads right inside the open hatch!
The Tardis shakes and screams, like a bear caught by a trap around the ankle. It bucks wildly and both Commander K and Captain Visilimee are sent flying.
The energy tendrils drop Rose to the ground and flail.
On the ground, Rose's Cybermen implant glows with the energy of the Tardis. The energy pulsates and is absorbed into her body. Her eyes glow orange, her hands as well.
DOCTOR (V.O.)
Hello? Hello? Captain Visilimee, are you there? This is the Doctor.
Rose, her body illuminated from within, walks over to the source of the Doctor's voice; the comm station.
ROSE
Doctor?
There's a strange ethereal echo to her voice.
DOCTOR (V.O.)
Rose, what's happened to you?
INT. INFIRMARY - MARLOWE-1
The Doctor tries to keep one eye on Franco, Beers, and Frick, while simultaneously communicating with Rose through Newt's workstation.
ROSE (V.O.)
I'm not sure. I feel... everywhere and everywhen.
DOCTOR
Is Captain Visilimee with you?
INT. TARDIS
Rose looks over at Captain Visilimee, who is on the ground.
ROSE
His right radius is fractured, but he is alive.
DOCTOR (V.O.)
Rose, you need to tell him that we're out of time. I'm transferring to the Brygosan ship all the star charts they need to make their jump. Tell them they have to jump now.
Commander K walks over to his Captain, keeping his distance from Rose, and helps Visilimee up. Visilimee favors his right broken arm.
CAPTAIN VISILIMEE
Why? Why now?
DOCTOR (V.O.)
I don't have time to explain.
INT. INFIRMARY - MARLOWE-1
General Pollock storms in.
POLLOCK
What the hell is going on in here?
DOCTOR
Just know that you're in danger. You have to go now!
POLLOCK
You idiots, he's telling them how to escape!
Pollock grabs Frick's gun right out of his hands and points it at the Doctor, who is blocked by Franco. He shoots Franco in the leg. She screams and falls to the ground, giving Pollock a clear shot at the Doctor.
He takes the shot.
