To stand by him
Hello wonderful readers, so things are lighter in this Chapter hope you like it and thank you for reading :)
Disclaimer: do not own stand by me,
Enjoy :)
A week had gone by and I had actually learned a lot. I hadn't been cornered by Ace since he grabbed me the first time but I had been stopped by Eyeball a couple times.
He didn't say much, and I don't think he was supposed to. Ace had agreed not to touch us but if we weren't scared of him he didn't have much, thats what Eyeball was for, to remind me of what would happen to me if I didn't get the key. To remind me that they still existed.
What I had learned was that Nick was in fact really religious, not so religious to follow the commandments, he lied and gambled, he coveted and rumor had it he killed someone. But he was a man of honor if he made a bet he honored it, if he made a deal he went through with it. How that helped? No idea.
I also learned about some of the history between Ace and him, Apparently he and Ace fought all the time, physical and spiritual they were constantly screwing with each other. Ace stole his hub caps and in return, Ace went a while with a shaved spot in his head.
I knew a lot. Except what the damn key was for! I understood the rivalry, ace had a gang and nick had a gang, but something told me this ran deeper then stealing hubs and giving haircuts. There was a piece to the story I didn't know and it was driving me insane.
I still had no damn idea how I was going to get this key. I had less then three weeks, and I wish I was a lot closer then I was.
I was sitting in my room, my dad at work and going over what I knew and what I needed to. When I heard a car horn. I ran to the front of the house, into my dad's room and onto the balcony there.
Outside was Chris honking his horn loudly and waving his arm out the window.
"Are you completely insane?" I demanded yelling down to him. The idiot tells me to not be seen yet he sits there honking and making a scene.
"Come on down." he called back.
"You're an idiot!" I yelled laughing.
"So I've been told. Now are you coming down or am I going to have to come get you?" he asked. I didn't answer just ran back inside and was out and in his truck in a matter of seconds.
"We going to see some more of Nicks friends?" I asked Chris glanced at me.
"I'm starting to think you just want to see other guys."
"What you think you're so special I don't need to see anyone else?" he glared at me for a second.
"Do you forget that you're my girlfriend?" he asked.
"With the way you treat me sometimes, yeah I do." I joked.
"Well to answer your question no, we are not going to see them. You need a break from this shit."
"What do you want to do?" I asked I was about to suggest something but I stopped dead.
"Chris why the hell are we at your house?" I asked getting anxious.
"Relax my dad ain't home." he smirked getting out of the truck, I followed suit.
'Then what are we doing?" I asked as he walked over to a shack at the side of the house and came back with buckets and rags. He had to be kidding. "You brought me here to help clean your car?"
he smiled and handed me a rag and a bucket filled with water.
"You gotta be kidding me."
"Come on you're dressed perfectly for it." I looked down at my clothes, it was hot, and I didn't plan to go anywhere. I was wearing a simple purple tank top, and some shorts.
"You are a horrible persuader you know that?" I asked.
"What else were you gonna do?"
"Well not manual labor like you have in mind." I said putting the bucket down.
"Look you help me with this and after we can do what ever you want." he said.
I rolled my eyes but agreed. Chris was a stubborn ass like I was and it was hard to convince him to do anything so having a free shot at him was not something I was going to miss.
I got to work with soaking his truck and then lathering up the red rusted truck in soap.
Chris got to work hosing it down as I washed the back bumper.
"Hey watch where you point that thing." I warned working on some grease that was dried onto the metal.
"What?" he asked turning towards me, completely by accident spraying me in the face as he turned with the hose. I knew it was an accident because he burst out laughing and turned off the hose.
I stood up spitting water off my lips and wiping my eyes.
"I didn't mean for that to happen." Chris said between laughs.
"That's okay cause I didn't mean for this to happen." I said throwing the soapy rag at him hitting him dead in the chest soaking his t-shirt. He raised the hose up at me with a raised eyebrow.
"You do it and I'll kill you." I warned.
"I'll take my chances." he said and sprayed me with hose. I let out a scream as I ran around the truck trying to avoid, to no avail, the water. I was soaked in seconds.
"Chis stop!" I laughed. He laughed with me chasing me around the truck not stopping until I picked up a bucket and threw it at him. He was as soaked as I was.
He dropped the hose and ran at me.
I got four steps before he picked me up and spun me around.
He put me down and I turned to face him, he didn't miss a beat. He placed his lips on mine in a hard passionate kiss, our lips were wet and they slip across each others but Chris held me tight as if to make sure I couldn't move from him lips. Wrapping my arms around his neck I felt him smile under my lips. He detatched himself but didn't move away he glanced down and smirked. I followed his eyes to see my shirt wet and sticking to my body. I rolled my eyes.
"Hey up here." I tugged on his hair to bring his attention back to my face and not my chest.
He smiled and kissed me again, long and lingering his strong arms holding me as if I might break. He began to scatter kisses along the fading yellow bruises on my cheek and along my jaw. A car honk pulled him away from me, jumping a step away.
"Soaked in whiskey Chambers!?" some boys yelled I glared at them as they kept driving down the street Chris flipping them off.
"Who were they?" I asked.
"Some pricks."
"Never would have guessed." I said sarcastically.
"They live on your street that's all you need to know." he said.
It was starting to make sense to me, it was clear I didn't fit in with the kids I was supposed to. Chris didn't want them coming after me if they knew where I lived.
And it was clear to me that if they knew I was like them in financial states, they would never let me around Chris and tell him to stay away from me.
"Come on lets get dry and something to eat." Chris said leaving the water to run down the driveway and be washed away in the street.
I followed him inside and true to his word no one was home.
The kitchen was a lot cleaner then I expected, but then I figured Chris must clean it up so his dad won't freak out. I mean that's why I clean.
He opened the fridge and pulled out a very poorly ices cake but it was cake non the less.
"You actually have food?" I asked.
"I'm not that poor." he laughed the blood drained from my face when I realized how that sounded.
"No I just mean, you grocery shop and stuff?" I asked.
"Believe it or not my brother does."
"No offense but I don't." I said taking the piece of chocolate cake that he offered to me.
"No offense taken, I'm surprised by it sometimes."
"Next you'll tell me that he bakes." I said taking a bite out of the cake and it was actually really good, moist not dry only the icing was slightly too sweet.
"He doesn't a girl made this."
"A girl did, or ace did? Cause I'd like to know if he poisoned my food so I can write in a note who did it." I said. Chris smirked and shook his head taking a bit out of his own cake.
"No, he didn't. Just some girl that eyeball knows, used to hang around them all the time then she left. Still good friends with my brother though." He said taking another bite.
"How come?" he shrugged.
"Think she knows about our drunk off his ass dad."
"Who doesn't know?" I asked, he shrugged again.
"Not many people don't know, but there are plenty of people that pretend they don't." I nodded. Wondering what it would be like if everyone knew about my dad and what he does. I doubt many people would care with the reputation I have gotten lately, but my dad wasn't Chris' dad, my dad was respected by everyone but me. It might ruin him if people knew.
Too lost in thought I didn't see Chris dip his fingers in the icing and smear it all over my mouth and chin.
"Chris!" I yelled jumping away from him.
I licked my lips tasting the sweet icing.
"Get this stuff off my face." I said he smiled and wrapped him arm around my back pulling me into his chest.
"With pleasure." he said before kissing and licking away the icing on my face. I really couldn't help but laugh and kiss him back when he was done on my face and went back to my lips.
He released me with a squeeze of my waist and put the dishes in the sink.
"Come on lets get you something dry." he said, taking my hand and leading me to his bed room. "Wear this, it's big but its dry." he handed me a gray t-shirt, I decided to keep on my wet shorts, they'd dry fast enough in the heat. I slipped it on and took my tank top off under it. Chris just stripped right on down not really caring that he was just standing there in his boxers.
I had to admit, Chris was really good looking, muscles flexed as he moved to grab his clothing and I couldn't help but stare at him.
He caught me of course and smirked before putting on his jeans then his t-shirt.
"Sorry to ruin the view for you." he smiled. I rolled my eyes.
"You think too highly of yourself." I said. He took my hand in his lacing our fingers together and led me out of the room.
"Alright, what do you want to do?" he asked.
"I want to go to the diner." I said.
"You just ate cake." he said.
"No I had it spread all over my face. Fun barely any got into my mouth."
"Alright alright we'll go, but why do you want to go there?' he questioned as we left the house and started walking down the street. "Its crowded."
"You scared of people seeing you with me?"
'That's a separate question, and you know what I mean." he said.
"I don't know just kinda want to go there be around people that aren't threatening to kill me." I joked.
"Why would you want to be around people like that?" he joked right back.
"Maybe they'll rub off on me."
"Won't do any good. We're already going to hell." he let go of my hand and placed his arm around my shoulders.
"Maybe so, but I'd rather be around them then Ace."
"They're a bunch of Arrogant, obnoxious pricks in polo's with no regards for others feelings."
"And what are we?" I asked.
"Same thing, but we don't wear polo shirts.' I laughed aloud and kept my pace with him.
We walked in silence until we got to the diner, ignoring the stares and looks we got from the other kids there we took a seat in a booth.
"can I take your order?" the waitress asked.
"I just want coke and fries please." I said.
"I'll have the same and burger." Chris said she nodded and walked away.
Chris was beginning to talk but I lost interest when I saw someone sitting a few seats away. It was the girl that was with Nick.
"You even listening?" Chris asked.
"Yeah, sorry, Chris who is that girl?" I asked pointing to her Chris turned around to look at her.
"The girl that's always with Nick?"
"yeah."
"His girlfriend I think."
"I know that but whats her name?" I asked. A thoughtful look came over his face.
"You know I actually don't know. I swear I've seen her before, use to hang out with ace a lot." He took another long look at her. "Yeah thats the girl my brother talks to." He said turning back around.
"The one that made the cake?' he nodded. "And you don't know her name?"
"I try not to get involved with my brothers friends." He stated like it was obvious.
"Well if she's Nicks girlfriend she might be a lot of help."
"Can't you just relax for one day?" Chris complained.
"Sorry but admit it if she is then it will be a lot of help."
'Maybe but I don't think it's a good idea to go over there and talk to her." He said. He had a point I didn't want to go harassing her if she was really close to Nick.
I sighed and enjoyed the rest of the meal with Chris.
When it was time to leave we walked out of the diner and into Ace.
"You have got to be kidding me." Chris muttered.
"Watch where you're going." Ace growled at Chris then turned to me. "The hell are you doing here?" he asked.
"Eating."
"Don't get wise on me, I mean what the hell are you doing here joking around when you have a job to do?" he demanded.
"Leave her alone Ace, she gets the key she gets it why they hell do you care how she gets it and what she does?" Chris asked his voice laced with frustration.
"This actually doesn't concern you." Ace said before nodding towards Richard. Who nodded back and then took hold of his brothers arms.
"Let me go!" he snapped struggling, eyeball ignored him and started to drag him down the street. "Stop!" Chris yelled.
"Let him go Ace, we made a deal." I said to him.
"I ain't gonna hurt him." he smirked, I watched as Chris struggled against his brother.
"Hes gonna find out anyways just let him listen."
'Not how it works. I wanna talk to you."
"Anna! Ace I swear if you touch her!" Chris yelled at him getting free for only a second taking three steps back towards us only to be caught by his brother again.
"What like this?" Ace asked gripping my shirt and pulling me flush to his body. He wasn't hurting me, but Chris wasn't happy about the contact at all.
"Knock it off." I snapped pushing him away from me. "Let him go."
"I'm not breaking the deal." "
"I don't give a rats ass ace. Let him go." I snapped glaring at the man in front of me.
"Ace what the hell are you doing?" a voice asked from behind me. Ace immediately let go of my and stepped farther away. "Let Chris go!" I looked to see the girl, Nick's girlfriend standing there hands on her hips, not looking impressed.
"This ain't any of your business." Ace said his voice softer then expected.
"I'm making it my business." she said. "Let Chris go and leave them alone, they haven't done anything to you." she said. Ace glared at her but looked back at eyeball and Chris was let go. He came running towards me and placed a protective arm around me.
"I'll expect to talk to you later." Ace said to me and Chris.
"You can go now." the girl said. Ace glared at her once more and then turned and left.
"Hey thanks." Chris said to her. I on the other hand was utterly confused. Did Ace really just do what this girl wanted?
"Think nothing of it, I may have been gone for a while but I still know how to handle him and he knows it." she smiled. "You okay anna?" she asked me. I nodded.
"Oh sorry, I'm Autumn, Nicks Girlfriend and Ace's Ex-girlfriend."
Well this just got a lot more interesting.
