I based Samuel on a Red mage from FF or D&D and Kaguya from the movie.

"I see... that is an interesting tale." Master Naomi said, smiling. "It would take great power to travel through time, I would think you could only do it by catching onto the residual power of this Kagome and the Shikon jewel. Without both, you as you are would never return home. You are stuck here. It is good of you to wish to train, to become powerful and helpful. I will aid you, however as I only have a few weeks, maybe two months left... I can only ensure you learn so much. We will begin your training without fail. We will focus on combat, healing and control. Combat, armed not. Healing for a life time and in battlle. Control so you can figure your powers out without me. How does that sound?"

Samuel bowed. "I would be delighted."

"Good... I do beleive that in a about a month, you should have a solid foundation. Enough to be of value and use. My training will be harsh, hours and hours of exercises, hard work and reading."

"I am willing to do whatever I must."

"Hmmm..."

Kaede sighed in pure relief. "I am glad you have accepted him, Naomi... I must return to my home, I will leave Samuel in your care." After sharing a hug, she was gone, on horseback making her way home.

Naomi stood. "To start your training your, I will have you learn bojutsu with my dear Momiji and Botan. Every morning you will train your body with them. You will spend time with me meditating, working on sensing your powers and the power of life force. Then you will put it all together, mixing and fighting my girls. After dark you will read your book, scrolls on history, demons, spiritual powers, herbs, healing or whatever you can find."

And so passed a month of hell...one in which he lost track of time, focusing solely on training. Day in and out, training and studying to a degree that would startle any one that saw it. He changed a lot, his body slimming with lean muscle. He felt amazing, even when he was sore. He felt dangerous and helpful all at once.

Every morning he was bruised as battered by staves, jogging and swimming to strengthen his body and stamina. He learned to fight, to disarm and enemy, to hit without killing and how to move swiftly. He learned to channel life force, or Mana as the book called it, into his staff to increase his power and repel enemies. He could fight bare handed as well as with a small knife he started hiding up his sleeve. The girls both did this, under Naomi's orders, due to cruelty of bandits and evil men.

He learned to channel his powers and heal with far greater efficiency. With herbs, he could magnify his healing spells to far greater levels, able to undo even demonic poisons... in theory. He could do so, on a small level, without words. With herbs he could also create talismans, and cast a variety of spells. His favorite trick was casting barriers, using herbs, or just channeling through a spell or mixing herbs into a fire or using written talismans like sutras. Turns out the methods to control spiritual power, focus and thought, worked for his powers as well.

His greatest strength by far was sensing, which was the main key to his power since he was not drawing on innate power like a monk or priest. His power to sense allowed him to feel life in all things, on some level, and to his shock... emotions. He could feel them in animals, demons and people. Meditation was key to this, and to his powers. It was boring but the results were vast.

Finally, he mastered thirteen spells. Three for healing, three for barriers, three for attack, one for capture, and three for general use which included a fire starting spell, a sleeping spell and a scrying spell. His master read and handpicked his spells, having him focus on those spells to harness them. Of his healing spells, one could heal wounds, one could purify poisons, and the last ( requiring herbs or amber) could purify negative energy be it demonic or spiritual which was chosen to help deal with the corrupted fragments. Of his attack spells, he could cast a repelling spell, a spell to shock and burn anyone that touched him, and one that could release a blast of light to blind enemies. Then there his barrier spells. One could be used to repel big attacks once, one could create a lasting barrier via fire place and the last could create a literal barrier of out of the earth. Lastly, was a spell that summoned enchanted vines to hold a person with energy and force.

However, as with all magic, it was all limited by power. For most spells it would use his own mana, which increased through use and strengthening his body. For more advanced spell he needed to prepare, with herbs and minerals and enchantments. For the greatest of spells, he could and would need to tap into other people or creature's, which he was unable to yet...

To compensate for this, his master found a spell in his book and they worked on casting it. The spell, in theory, would enchant his staff, making it durable and able to handle demonic energy. It would also channel magic better, for barrier purposes.

Which is why, on the one month of his time with them, Naomi called him into his office. " Samuel, to enchant your staff, you need herbs I lack. I found rumors of a herb farm that could be of value, however there are rumors it is in the protection of a demon... I am unsure of their validity, but if it is true you would likely be able to cast your enchantment on your staff.

Remember to keep to the roads, keep your eye out for bandits and roaming demons. Never forget your training, and all strike where you must. Be safe, my son. I am close to death, and I cannot train you any longer. It is time for you to go."

Mika bowed to his master, who he deeply appreciated though they really never developed a deep relationship. It was too much based on effort, training and value than anything else. Teacher student, nothing more.

"Thank you, for everything, Master Naomi. I will never forget what you've taught me..."

"Be sure that you do not..."

"I will leave at once... as soon as you tell me where this farm is, and then I will find Kagome and Inuyasha."

The man nodded before handing Samuel a satchel. "This posses herbs, minerals and pastes. To get you started, my boy. I would not have you wild and unprepared. You are not all powerful nor are you all skilled. You have just enough going on to make you survive in our harsh world. Now, as to the farm, it is just a few miles from.."

Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.

This was fun, interesting and set a good pace.

Love, your Ninja Overlord,

Mika.
