With a final knock back of her drink, Hermione stood up and started walking to the exit, ignoring the gyrating bodies around her. Suppressing a shudder she hurried out into the silent night, except for the noise of the strip club and the occasional car as she was in a semi-deserted place. The muffled sound of flats hitting the pavement as she hurried into an empty alley.
Sighing at the quiet and peace of the dark Hermione smiled. Finally. Flicking her hand she felt the wooden handle of her wand. Constant Vigilance echoed around her head, ironically the man who had ingrained was someone who had tried to kill Harry. Shrugging she continued walking to where she had parked her car, cursing the fact that she couldn't just use magic to apparate to the flat she was renting at the moment, grumbling to herself about the stupid rule Kingsley had insisted she follow about no magic she almost missed the low growl.
"Hello?" Hermione calls in the darkness, eyes searching for whatever had growled at her. "Hello?" She called again. Silence. Grasping the handle of her wand Hermione continued on her way. Looking this way and that she jumped when a figure appeared in the corner of her eyes, grasping the handle of her wand she turned to look at it with both eyes. Crates, just a big pile of crates, letting out a small chuckle she put a hand to her chest to help get her heartbeat under control. Without looking back she kept walking to where she could now see a streetlight in front of her. Crash! Hermione froze, turning around slowly her eyes widened as a girl leapt out of the shadows, at least Hermione assumed it was a girl. The snout of the thing had lengthened, teeth sharpened, and the nose was more… Wolf-like than anything else.
Cursing under her breath, Hermione grabbed the only weapon in her bag. A stiletto. With a quick chuck at the temple of the thing in front of her, Hermione let the stiletto fly as she took off running to the edge of the alleyway. The snarls were the only warning she got.
BANG! A shot rang out, taking the hybrid's attention off of Hermione and onto the new threat. With a low growl the creature turned towards the new threat, no longer concerned about the defenceless human behind it. Rolling her eyes at the dramatics around her Hermione glanced at the moon. Full. Terror filled her as she thought of Teddy. Without his medicine. Statute of Secrecy be damned and without another thought, Hermione turned on her heel and with a sharp crack! She was gone.
"TEDDY!" Hermione yelled as she throws open the front door and sees the girl holding a silver knife to a struggling Teddy's throat. As Hermione steps closer the girl presses the knife a bit harder into his throat, a small whimper escapes from the toddler.
"I knew there was something here." The blonde girl smirks. "Not bad for a hunting trip alone huh boys?" With a wink of her brown eyes at something behind Hermione. With a jolt Hermione moves towards Teddy again.
, "Grab her Sam." Hermione froze, why did that voice, and name, sound familiar? Racking her brains as two men came out of the shadows. One grabbed her while the other walked closer to the Dona-turned-Jo. "Why did you call us?" The one in front of her asks as he walks closer to where Jo is holding Teddy.
"Werewolves." Jo answered simply showing them Teddy.
"He's a werewolf?" The man grabbing her, Sam, asks. Jo nods.
"Then why isn't he going bat-shit crazy?" The one in front of her asks, Hermione silently asking the same thing. "Come on Jo, I doubt that the child is a werewolf."
"He might not be, but that doesn't mean she can't be." Jo said, pointing the knife she had moved from Teddy's neck at Hermione.
"You must be mental." Hermione said, frightened laughter threatening to bubble out of her. "All of you." Trying to get out of Sam's grasp, Hermione shrugs her shoulders only to feel him grasp onto her more firmly. "Werewolves?" Forcing incredulousness in her voice she looks at Teddy, praying to whatever deities that were listening to keep him from changing how he looked. "I suppose you think that ghosts exist as well." Spinning around to face the man holding her, she felt her breath hitch. "Sam? As in one of the boys from the motel I was staying at?" Her eyebrows raised slightly. With a yank Hermione ripped herself from his hold as she spun around to face the other two. "And you! Dean, wasn't it?" Without waiting for an answer she stalked up to him. "Tell that girl to let go of Teddy, there are no such thing as werewolves." Stalking around Dean to Jo she put her hands out. "Hand me him." Hermione nearly growled.
"Jo, just do it." Sam called from behind her somewhere. The blonde nodded at Sam's words before slipping the silver knife into the waistband of her pants while she handed Teddy to Hermione.
"Oh are you okay?" Worried chocolate eyes met slightly glowing auburn ones. "You must be hungry come on little one, lets get you some food." before you eat everyone. Hermione silently added in her head. "Would you three like something to eat as well?" She asks, "After all, we do have quite a bit to talk about." She left no room for argument as she went into the kitchen.
Setting Teddy onto the table and giving him his bottle, which was full of wolfsbane, she watched as the three entered her kitchen.
"Sorry about that." Sam said as he stood next to Dean who was standing next to Jo, who was looking uncomfortable.
"So, what is all this…" Waving her hand around looking for a suitable word to use, "Crap you were going on about werewolves?" Putting a hand up to catch Teddy's bottle as he dropped it and gave a small howl. "Yes Teddy, wolves howl, but not when 'Mione's trying to talk." She told the almost one and a half year old. Shifting the boy onto her hips Hermione glared at the three. "Start talking now."
"Everything about the supernatural…. Is real." Sam said, only slightly hesitating in his words. Jo and Dean nodding earnestly. "The people who have been killed by wild dogs are actually being killed by werewolves."
Forcing herself to laugh Hermione put Teddy on the ground to let the three-year old roam free while handing him the bottle.
"You honestly can't think that this… Nonsense is true." Hermione stated while raising a skeptical brow. "The dog attacks are just that. Dog attacks. Sure they may be part of some freak accident but they are still part of an accident." Glancing at the clock Hermione stood up. "Now, if you don't mind you are keeping Teddy from his sleep and if he doesn't go to bed now he will be cranky, I trust you can show yourself the way out?" Phrasing the barely concealed threat into a question did nothing as she ushered them out, picking up a squirming Teddy on the way. "Goodnight." She said curtly as she locked the door behind her… guests.
"Pway 'Mione?" Teddy asked, his eyes shining with happiness.
"Yes Teddy, play." And without another word both of them went up the stairs and into Teddy's room, where silencing wards had been set up.
When morning came it found both Teddy and Hermione full of bruises, scrapes, and cuts. Mainly found on Hermione's skin. Setting the finally able to sleep toddler into his bed Hermione forced back a yawn as she went downstairs and into the kitchen needing something to wake her up. Pouring herself a cup of coffee she nearly spilt it when she heard someone at the door, quickly stalking over to the peep-hole she peered out.
"Sonovabitch." She quietly cursed before opening the door up.
"Hermione right?" Dean asks eyes roving over her cut up skin while Hermione nods. "Well it seems that we owe you an apology." He scuffed his shoe awkwardly while Sam just stood behind him like a silent bodyguard with no hesitation to attack her if need be. Blinking the last of the sleepiness from her eyes she stood to the side, allowing them entrance.
"Why are you still here?" She asks, her voice lowered, eyes narrowed at the two in front of her. "I thought I made it perfectly clear that I didn't want anything to do with the mumbo-jumbo that you two seem to see every five seconds." A very pregnant pause followed her statement before she blinked her weary eyes. "You look like you two could use a decent meal for once, and since I'm in the middle of making breakfast…" She trails off and walks back to the kitchen listening for any sign of a restless Teddy up and ready for food.
