Chapter 10
The moon above the abandoned toy factory shone brightly. The Guardians, who were startled from the proclamation of the Boogeyman, didn't know how to respond. They all looked at each other, with the same question on their head.
What did the Boogeyman want with Anya?
"Why do you want her?" Tooth asked.
Pitch glared at the green hummingbird-like woman and said, "I will not say…yet." He grinned his gnarled smile at the Guardians.
"Hey! Black dude!" Pitch turned to the newbie Guardian, expression affronted.
"What?" He snarled.
"You want the Russian girl right?" Eren stated with a smile.
"Yes."
"You will not have her." The boy proudly said. Pitch, whose face was stern, looked down at him with a semblance of pride. But the black being's face slowly carved a smile.
"Oh…I'm not asking you to give her to me…" he toyed with the corked that sealed the content of the glass vial.
"I'm going to take her from you!" Pitch pulled the cork with a swift flick of the wrist, the glass vial making a loud popping sound.
The Guardians watched as the Boogeyman poured out the contents to the ground below. The black essence, what seemed to be liquid, spilled and pooled on the ground. It slowly it moved and writhed like a distressed blob, forming something from its once singular state.
The Guardians could only watch as the black liquid began to form into something sinister. The liquid rose higher and higher and higher, almost blocking the moon and its light.
The Guardians watched in horror as the black liquid solidified, revealing its final form of what had to be a 20 meter high Dream-Eater.
Anya stared in horror at the gigantic Dream-Eater. It had, as Sandman's description, pointed sharp ears and wide red and golden eyes. Its skin was blacker than a moonless night, and its teeth and nails were both sharp and possessed a yellowish color – like the decay of and old witch's nails.
The Guardians were dumbfounded, unable to believe what Pitch had summoned…except for the Guardian boy.
"Feast your eyes upon my new power!" Pitch shouted, letting out a sinister laugh. No one could speak, too stunned to do or say anything. But then the Guardian boy scoffed and said,
"Is that all? A big, stupid giant?" Eren took out both of his segmented blades, "Mind if I test it!?"
Before the black spirit could answer him, the boy pressed the trigger on the hilt of his blade. Eren, thrusting forward by his 3D-MG, swept past him and rose up higher than the giant. Then, the boy turned and thrust downward towards the back of the giant. He swung his blades and…slashed at the nape of the neck of the giant.
The giant let out a roar then slowly fell forward to the ground. The giant hit the ground then burst. Thousands of golden sand suddenly flew out, Sandman smiled. The golden sands were his power, his dreams.
"What!?" Pitch shouted, in disbelief at what happened to his giant.
Eren landed and stood up. He turned around and looked back. He smiled a mocking smile at Pitch, "That was weak." He said with a yawn.
Pitch, eyes narrowed and gritting his teeth, gave the boy a scornful look. He then put his hand in his pocket and took out 10 small glass vials.
"DEATH TO THE GUARDIANS!" Pitch threw all of the vials to the ground. The vials shattered and the black liquid began to form into another giant.
"Hey Jack." Jack turned to Eren who still looked on a smile. "Should I tell you where to hit it?"
"Nah, I learn fast." Jack smirked. The Guardians readied their weapons, gathered their confidence, and began to trust Eren.
"Ready or not, here we come!" North shouted as the Guardians charged towards the small group of Dream-Eaters.
Anya watched from behind a box beside a dumpster. She watched the Guardians fight to the death with the gigantic Dream-Eaters.
"Hahaha! Too slow!" North ran along the huge arm of a Dream-Eater up to the nape of the neck. He slashed his two swords and giant disintegrated into golden sand.
Tooth, together with her mini-fairies, flew around and punched the nape of the neck of a giant, then swooped past to hit another.
Bunny hopped towards the roof of the building and threw his boomerangs at a giant. His boomerangs flew and swiftly slashed the neck of a giant. And then another, and another.
Jack flew above him and produced hundreds of ice spears, all of which harpooned towards the nape of the neck of the giants.
Eren, thrusting by with his gears, swiftly maneuvered and slashed at a giant.
Just like-old times! He shouted mentally, and pressed the trigger on the hilt of his blade.
Despite the overwhelming offenses of the Guardians, they were still far from winning. Pitch, after another giant fell, took out another vial and threw it to the ground. This time, instead of one, two giants were formed.
'If they know the weakness of my giants, then maybe I can still win by sheer number.' Pitch thought, then threw another vial.
However his attention shifted towards the dumpster. He saw the girl, crouching and hiding from the battle. Pitch's face formed a sinister smile, and he threw a vial near the location of his target.
Anya's eyes observed each and every movement of the young boy. She was so preoccupied that she didn't notice the growing black liquid beside the box where she was hiding. The black essence rose up and formed into a gigantic Dream-Eater. The giant, now completely formed, looked down to the box.
The girl, still too busy watching the fight, felt a presence behind her. She looked up and was terrified to see a giant, with a grin plastered on its face looking back at her.
"Ah!" Anya gasped and ran away as the giant toppled the dumpster and the box. She looked up again and saw the giant's eyes, still locked onto her.
"Oh no…" her breath was coming fast and her legs began to tremble in fear.
Anya suddenly raised both of her hands after the giant took a step towards her. A pair of vines suddenly sprouted and shot up from the ground and attached to the giant's fists.
The Guardian of Nature grunted as she concentrated on the vines that began to pull the giant down to the earth. But the giant suddenly grabbed the vines and pulled back hard, enough to snap the vines.
Anya fell after she was hit by one of her vines that were thrown by the giant. She tried to escape but the giant's left hand opened. Long black rope sprouted out from its palm and wrapped around the girl. Anya screamed in fright as the giant held her in its large fist.
Jack flew above the giant and produced more ice spears, all of which hit the nape of the giant's neck. The giant dissolved and the winter sprite smiled in success.
"AH!" Jack's smile quickly disappeared as he heard the familiar scream of Guardian of Nature. He looked around, looking for the girl and saw her…in the hand of a Dream-Eater.
"Anya!" He quickly flew towards the endangered Guardian. "Hang in there!" he shouted. But suddenly, he felt a gust of wind brush beside him. Jack turned but he didn't see anything.
"AAH!" Suddenly, Jack heard another scream, but this one…was a boy's.
Anya suddenly felt that she was falling. She hit the ground with a loud thump. The girl looked up and saw the giant dissolving into golden sand. She was about to move when she felt a heavy object slump beside her.
She turned and became shocked at what she saw.
Eren, breathing heavily, was staring straight at her. He was lying beside her.
"E-Eren, are you all right?" She asked as she tried to move him but the boy suddenly gasped. The girl, puzzled by the boy's response, touched his right shoulder – only to feel a rushing liquid.
She looked at his shoulder, suddenly horrified. The boy's whole right arm was gone and the rushing liquid was blood.
"Oh my God! Eren we need to get-"
"Get away…" Eren said as he tried to move.
Jack finally arrived and landed beside the girl. He too was shocked to see the pool of blood growing on the ground.
"Eren! Are you all right buddy?!" Jack tried to move him but the boy, using his remaining hand, brushed his hand away.
"Get away now!"
"Eren…" Jack, frightened at the blood that was still growing on the ground, looked at him. Then he understood what the boy was saying.
"Anya, let's go, I'll bring you to the sleigh." Jack pulled the girl.
Anya, teary-eyed at what happened to the boy, slowly stood up and ran with the winter sprite.
"Gya…" Eren watched as the two ran towards the gate. He then turned to his side and saw the Guardians still fighting the hordes of gigantic Dream-Eaters.
They weren't aware of what had become of him.
Suddenly he felt a large thump above him. He looked up and came face to face with three giant Dream-Eaters.
"Tch…are you all going to eat me?" he cursed as the three giants looked at each other then looked back at him.
"Fine…" The boy slowly moved his free left hand and reached for the blade on his side.
The giants then leaned down and reached out to grab the boy. They were going to eat him.
"BUT YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR YOUR MEALS!" Eren shouted as he raised the blade on his left hand and plunged it down to the remaining part of his right arm.
Jack, holding Anya's right hand tightly, looked behind him after a bright light appeared. Anya also looked back as she wiped some of her tears in her eyes.
"Wh-what's that…?" she asked.
"Don't worry Anya, we're almost there." Jack said instead of answering, and continue running towards the rusty gate. Suddenly, out of nowhere, two giant Dream-Eaters appeared and blocked the gate.
"Oh no…" Jack and Anya stopped dead in their tracts.
"Let's go back-" They both turn around and ran, however a giant appeared in front of them, blocking their way.
The two stood close to each other and looked around. They were trapped and surrounded by Giants.
"Jack, what're we going to do!?" Anya shouted.
The winter sprite pointed his staff at the two giants blocking the gate.
"We're going to make a run for it…" Jack said.
The winter sprite was about to summon an ice spear, but the giant standing behind Anya suddenly let out an ear-shattering roar.
The two looked up to the giant as it stomped its left foot beside them, thrust itself forward, and punched the giant, standing on the right, that was blocking the gate.
The two were shocked from what the giant did.
Then, Anya, noticed something about the peculiar Giant. It was different than the dreadful Dream-Eaters. This one…was much more human. It had the skin color of a human's, and it had black shoulder-length hair...and it was buck naked.
"Heh…Eren is pretty strong." Jack remarked as the giant punched the remaining Dream-Eater that dissolved into a golden sand.
"Wait...is that Eren…?" Anya asked, puzzled and confused to the new appearance of the boy.
"Yup. His other side..." Anya stared at the giant, still disbelief that it was the Guardian boy, and thought. That naked giant…was Eren? He was so big!
The giant then turned and walked towards the fight and the other Guardians. The ground shook with each step he took. The two step aside as it passed through them and approached the group of Dream-Eaters.
Bunny hopped fast along the arms of the Dream-Eater. He jumped high after he reached the shoulder and threw his boomerangs, both slashing at the back of the giant's neck.
The giant disintegrated and the rabbit landed on the ground. However his ears rose after he heard loud approaching footsteps. He turned around and was startled to see the giant form of Eren.
"North!"
"What!?" North, together with Tooth, who was busy slashing a giant's neck, looked up.
"Eren's here! In his Titan form!" North turned and saw the approaching giant. The old man exclaimed in Russian, startled.
"W-wait! That's Eren!?" Tooth exclaimed as the giant, now called Titan, punched a Dream-Eater that had attempted to block its way.
The Tooth fairy's eyes widened as she saw the sharp rows of teeth.
"Those teeth are so shiny! I must have a look!" she exclaimed to North.
"W-what on earth-!" Pitch Black, who was silently watching the battle, stared at the new giant that sprouted out of nowhere.
"Where did you come from!?" he gritted his teeth in anger then he took out 10 more vials from his dark cloak. He threw the vials to the giant.
The glass vial broke as they made contact with the ground. The black liquid formed and former into Dream-Eaters. There were 20 of them surrounding the Titan.
The Titan turned around and looked at each of the giant with its sharp grey eyes.
Then one of the giants lunged itself at the Titan.
The Titan fought back as each one of the Dream-Eaters tried to attack him and down him.
"There's too many of them…we must help him!" North said as he charges towards the Dream-Eaters.
Tooth and Bunny looked at each other, then nodded, and followed the old Guardian.
