Chapter 12: A little fun

"I am going to kill him! I am going to send him to the fiery depths of hell where he belongs!"

Gar continued to rant to himself in blinding rage. Obviously, one look from the usually cheery Gar, and you could tell he was beyond pist. Driving his small dark green jeep down the street he easily surpassed the speed limit and drove out of the graphite streets. His goal?

The Roth household.

Oh, how his blood boiled at the thought of what he was about to do to Trigon. Strangle him, beat him, but the top objective: make him suffer. The thought of making the man he currently loathed wish for mercy from him caused an uncharacteristic grin to find a way on his face. It was quite scary to see someone as sweet as Gar turn into an almost savage beast. Only the pain from someone he truly cared about could bring this side out of him.

Taking a sharp curve to his left, Gar continued to speed out of the dark streets and get closer to his goal.

In the apartment, Rachel stood shell shocked. Just what exactly did Gar mean when he said he was just going to 'talk' to her dad? Analyzing his stunned reaction to the matter, she soon let the puzzle pieces slide together and make out the picture of what was truly going on.

Her violet eyes widened in alarm at the thought. Gar wasn't violent, but people did do crazy things when they were running on their emotions. Panic struck her at the thought of Gar being arrested for something he might regret. She looked around quickly, before her gaze fell on a bus card and her thin black jacket. Grabbing the two along with her keys, she ran out of her shabby apartment to stop Gar before something really bad happened.

...

Trigon sat on his vomit covered brown couch with a burp. Yup, he was drunk as a skunk. Taking another swing at his beer bottle, he gulped the alcoholic beverage and focused his bleary vision on the TV where only static played.

One look at the room, and you could tell it was a mess. A closer look at the room, and you would've thought that a concoction of leftover bar trash along with a hurricane came through. The Living room was covered in littered boxes and discarded bottles of alcohol, the shelf from when Rachel and Trigon had a fight was still tossed to the ground, and the entire place smelt like a mixture of old beer, rotting food, and fresh throw up.

Alfred would be aghast to the scene.

A loud belch echoed into the room making Trigon pat his chest and take another gulp. Just as the tip of the beer had touched his lips, the sound of a knock came to his ears. Well, more like pounding.

Growling from his comfortable mount, he lazily threw the bottle on the dirty coffee table and groggily stood to answer the door.

"I'm coming, so shut the hell up already!" Trigon yelled when the pounding on the door had tripled in noise and knocks.

Opening the door, the wind was knocked out of him and he was quickly shoved back inside as the door was slammed behind him and locked.

"What the hell is your problem?! I open the door for you and your ass just-"

Gar turned to the man in front of him and quickly silenced his scold with a large punch to the jaw. Obviously, Trigon wasn't expecting that so when he looked up to get two more fists collided into his jaw, it just shocked him more. After finally realizing he had to fight back, Trigon took a swing at Gar missing him by a foot due to his drunken state.

A loud crash to the coffee table was what had softened Trigon's blow. Gar glowered over the drunken man with a stoic expression on his usually peppy face.

"Look at you. Pathetic. You can't even fight and you beat your own daughter!"

"She told somebody?! I'm going to kill that thing.." Trigon growled as he began to try and stand up. Obviously Gar didn't like that response. With a mighty heave, Trigon was pushed to the ground and caught in a fury of punches.

"She's not a thing! She's a beautiful, amazing, totally smart girl! She's your daughter! What the hell is wrong with you?!" Gar raged on giving Trigon a bloody nose. Ignoring the crimson liquid on his fingers, Gar continued the assault before the sound of the door bursting open caught him off guard.

"Gar, get off him!"

Before he could even blink, Gar was tackled off of Trigon and held back by two pairs of strong arms. Glancing around, he saw Victor and Dick holding him back with stern expressions, while Artemis, Jade, Karen, and Kori were still trying to comprehend on what Rachel was saying about her parents splitting to her living in a crappy apartment, and Connor, Wally and Roy stood over Trigon as if to keep watch.

"Let me go!" Gar seethed, kicking a bit. Victor tightened his grip on Gar's right arm making the vegetarian wince. Looking at his emotional grey eyes, Gar saw the pain he felt at the moment.

"No man, it's not worth it."

"But-"

"No Gar. Vic's right. You could've tooken it too far." Dick deadpanned. Gar felt his heart clench at the thought of what could've happened. Feeling all his anger leave him, he slumped to the ground and reached his hands to run them through his disheveled hair when he saw it.

The blood.

He blinked his glassy green eyes at the sight and looked up to see Trigon's face look almost massacred. A cold shiver ran through his body and hot tears began to sting his eyes.

"Oh god..."

Like the good friend she was, Kori was soon by Gar's side attempting to comfort the emotional boy. Rachel walked over to the group who was now standing in a circle like shape. She brushed her arm nervously and looked up to see all of their emotions were hard, but worried. Worried for her.

"Thank you guys for coming here." Rachel thanked." You guys really didn't have to come."

"Pfft. Are you kidding me? When you send a frantic text message like that, I'm so going to miss my show to be there for you. I knew something was wrong if you send messages all panicked like. Rae doesn't do panic." Wally said with a wave of his arm, but a genuine smile to hopefully lighten the mood on.

"Yeah Rachel, we're a family. What would make you think that we wouldn't be here for you?" Kori questioned where she stood soothingly stroking Gar's back.

"Well, I don't know. I'm just-"

"It's fine Rachel. Like Kori said; We're a family. We look out for each others backs. " Roy declared wrapping an arm around Jade's shoulders.

"Yeah. If I didn't have you guys, I would be a loner. I'm not the friendliest guy Y'know." Connor deemed. The group let a small chuckle escape their mouths.

"Yeah. Guys, I'm sorry. If it wasn't for you barging in here, I don't know how far I would've took it dudes." Gar sighed with a sad smile. Just as he looked up, Rachel had crashed him into a tight embrace. He was stunned, but he quickly wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tighter to him.

"It's fine. Just don't ever do it again, ok? " Rachel breathed. Gar smiled into her shoulder and lightly made circular patterns on her back. She felt warm inside, but she want going to tell anyone that.

"Don't worry. I promise."

A click of the gun caught the groups attention. Turning to the sound, they saw that Trigon was no longer where he resided, but rather stood holding a gun in his shaking hands.

"You son of a bitch." Trigon slurred aiming the gun towards Gar. Just as he was about to shoot, Wally snorted.

"What's so funny?" Trigon hissed.

"Well, you'd have to shoot all of us to at least get out this house alive." Wally joked. Trigon seemed to consider this.

"Good idea." Trigon smiled aiming the gun at a now gulping speedster. Everyone looked at him worriedly, before a fist collided with Trigon's face knocking the man out.

Looking up, everyone saw Artemis smirking down at the man while she loosely shook out her hand and kicked the gun away.

"If your gonna shoot something, then do it with a bow and arrow." She declared smugly. Everyone began to laugh at Artemis's joke and Wally stared at her with awe in his eyes. So she could punch. Yup, real attractive.

Pulling a laughing Roy aside, he began to ramble.

"Roy." Wally called out. Roy looked at the redhead with a raised eyebrow.

"What Wally?"

"Dude, is it bad that I thought Artemis knocking out Trigon was the hottest thing in my life?"

Roy simply snorted.

"Shut up Wally."

...

Saturday. Oh, Saturday. Many kids enjoyed to sleep in and enjoy the extra hours of sleep, but oh no not Kori.

Already, the beautiful girl was up and dressed ready for the day. She wore a nice short white sundress that ended at her knees. It fit tightly around the waist and up, but flowed out at her hips giving her emphasize on her nice figure. Her golden tan skin seemed to glow while her brilliant ruby red hair sat in a nice messy bun. Her usually sparkly bottle green eyes had a lost light in them while her plump pink lips were in a pursed position.

The sunrise was beautiful. It had the glowing ball of yellow light just barely peeking over the horizon while some of the darkness of the night still painted across the sky giving the sight a beautiful gleam. Oh, Kori was awed at the beauty, but it still didn't make her feel better.

Only thing or rather person that could make her feel better was Richard.

She felt horrible for the fight they had not too long ago. Resenting their friendship and saying she was tired of him. Oh, how she regretted saying that. If anything, she needed him in her life, but life was tough.

Letting out a sigh, Kori glanced at the trees and closed her eyes at the soft breeze that glided over. Her peaceful moment was suddenly interrupted when her phone began to ring. Grabbing her phone, she picked it up to see who was calling her.

Speak of the devil.

Kori couldn't help, but smile at the picture of her and Richard dressed as Prince Charming and Cinderella on her phone. It was so long ago when they took that picture. 4th grade to be exact. Even as young kids they were still the best of friends. Shaking the memory out of her head, she quickly picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey Star, look I know you're probably still mad at me. I would be too. I'm such an idiotic jerk sometimes, and I'm really sorry. I just can't stand the thought of you being mad at me. Really, I can't. I haven't had any sleep in like two days." Dick rambled.

"You haven't?" Kori asked now becoming concern.

"No. It's just... I can't even stand the thought of sleeping if your mad at me. I need you Star. C'mon, I really am sorry. And to prove it, I want to take you to the carnival today." Dick stated. Kori almost snorted at his voice. You could almost hear the excitement when he said he wanted to take her to the carnival.

"Well, can we bring our friends? They haven't had any moments of peace since sophomore year began." Kori reasoned. Dick seemed to consider this for a moment.

"Yeah, your right."

"Aren't I always? "

"Yeah, yeah whatever." Dick laughed.

"So what time?" Kori questioned now with a beaming smile. Dick paused for a moment before answering.

"How about twelve? We can all eat lunch together then split up and do our own things, except you and me. Robin and Star are going to be together all day, like we used to be." Richard said with a happy tone. Kori grinned at the use of their nicknames.

"That sounds wonderful. I'll see you at eleven my Robin." Kori purred making Dick shiver on the other line.

"You too my shinning star." Dick returned with a grin.

The two best friends ended the phone as they both thought of the same thing.'Nothing could ruin this day. '

...

"We're at a carnival, yes we are!" Wally sung.

"I'm going to eat lots of food, and play bumper cars!" Gar declared with a laugh.

"And I'm going to whoop Grass stains ass!" Victor sung as well making the boy frown.

"Pfft. I bet you can't, you won't get pass!" Roy sung too joking with the three.

"Oh god you guys are a bunch of tools!" Karen sung making the guys frown.

"Oh shut up, this isn't no Highschool musical." Artemis yelled in a sing song voice.

"Yeah it's not, so please hush your face!" Garth sung as well.

"Yeah, or else you'll taste my plate!" Dick announced.

"Wait, what-" Wally was cut off when a plate full of powdered sugar slammed into his face. Dick and everyone else bursted into unbreakable fits of laughter as Wally tried to blink the sugar off while licking it at the same time.

"That was down right sneaky boss!"

"But Wally, was it good?" Connor asked from the opposite end of the table they sat at.

"Uh, yeah."

Laughter erupted again from the groups table making people passing by smile. Everyone was enjoying the day so far. They had all met up at the carnival gates as planned. All except Jenn, who was currently seeing a counselor at the moment. Right now, they all sat at a large wooden table enjoying lunch. Most of the food was turkey legs, fried twinkies, soda, and even funnel cakes on which Dick had shoved in Wally's face.

Many stories were shared, and foretelling on what the day would bring. It was quite a fun event and everyone was actually happy.

"Okay, okay, so how do we split up?" Wally asked after trying to calm down the laughing Kori and Dick.

"I call Rachel as my buddy!" Gar exclaimed before blushing a bright red along with Rachel.

"Me and my honey bee will chill together." Victor said with a smile plastered on his large face. Karen laughed at his enthusiastic attitude.

"Star's mine!" Dick called.

"Jade's my baby mama, so wherever she goes, I follow." Roy announced before getting a slap behind the head by Jade.

"Don't call me that!" Jade hissed.

"Well, sorry..." Roy grouched before laughing and pulling Jade closer to him.

"Me and Connor can hang out together." Garth said greeting a high five from the boy. Wally looked at Artemis beside him and slowly yawned reaching his arm over her shoulder and pulling the surprised girl closer to him with a grin.

"Guess that just leaves you and me beautiful." Wally flirted with a wink at the blonde. Artemis grabbed his finger and squeezed it tightly making the speedster retract his arm and yelp.

"Can't wait." Artemis smirked making Wally chuckle nervously.

"Okay, what are we waiting for?! I need to head on the rides before the line gets too long dudes! Now let's go!" Gar yelled practically dragging away Rachel.

Everyone else soon parted ways to enjoy the festivities.

...

The carnival was absolutely amazing. The floor was dirt, but the many tents and stands that littered the place made the sight so alive. Colors of yellow, red, blue, green, white and many more lit up the carnival as many rides were placed around the park. Roller coasters, Picture booths, Arcades, prize winning tents, rides of all sorts, and finally the Ferris wheel. The big thing would light up the area when it began to get dark, but for now the giant ride loomed over the park.

At the moment, Kori was laughing with Dick about an old memory of her meeting Tim for the first time.

"Haha, yeah. And remember, when he tried to spy on you when you spent the night at the manor?" Dick laughed recalling his little brothers pevertive antics.

"Yeah, yeah I remember. I'm so glad Alfred caught him." Kori reminisced.

"Mmm-hmm. Y'know the boy still has pictures of you on his door." Dick pointed out making Kori shiver. This didn't go unnoticed by Dick who instinctively wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him.

"You cold Star?"

"No, I'm just freaked out, about your brother." Kori laughed. Dick soon joined in her laughter, but had yet removed his arm around her shoulders. It's not like it bothered her though. An old woman walking by the two, grinned at them.

"You two, make an adorable couple." She complimented making both Kori and Dick flush a bright red.

"Um- we're n-not together mam." Dick stuttered out removing his arm from Kori. The old woman laughed at them.

"Oh, well that's ashame. You two kids are perfect for each other." She laughed before slowly walking away.

Dick was just about to say something about how that was an awkward moment, before Kori's delighted squeal cut him off.

"Oh! A photo booth! We have to take pictures Richard! We have too!" Kori pleaded giving him the eyes. He smiled at her and laughed a bit.

"Sure, c'mon." He called dragging her soft hand in his own.

The two walked into the unoccupied photo booth and sat in the red plush seat. Putting in a dollar, Richard and Kori both looked at the small screen that began to give instructions on what to do and how to pose. The screen would count down to five and then flash after it took your picture. The photo booth was suppose to take about five photos in total.

Sitting up straight the screen began to count down to five. Both Kori and Dick glanced at each other before pulling out a funny face. Kori sticking out her tongue and crossing her eyes while Dick was stretching out his mouth and closing one eye.

The second picture, they both stared at the screen seriously then began to burst into laughter on the third one. As the fourth one was about to begin, they both looked up and stared at the others eyes. They ignored the flash as it already announced their picture was tooken and focused on each other.

They say eyes were the window way to the soul and both stared intently into the others as if seeking something. Neither one knew who was inching closer to the other one. Slowly the distance between the two had dramatically decreased leaving the other almost touching noses. And as if Dick couldn't wait any longer, he closed his eyes and kissed Kori.

Her eyes went wide at first, but the surprise she had before quickly melted into a state of elation. Wrapping her slim arms around his neck, she kissed back with more passion as Dick easily returned with more ferocity and pulled her closer to him. Right at that moment the camera flashed capturing the moment everyone had been waiting for on print.
