Chapter 11: How Could You Let This Happen?
"We're too late." Steve stated as he and Danny rushed into the back bedroom.
They'd heard the call for back-up on their way to the scene. Now they found their team-mates and a fourth body.
"He's been dead the longest." Chin stated. "You can tell by the smell, and the fact that his computer was set to update days ago."
"Probably because he was the hardest to find." Kono said. "The others broadcast who they were and their opions, but this guy covered it up. I wonder what else he was hiding." Kono added as she moved back toward the computer and pulled an evidence bag full of the thumb drives out of her pocket. "Should we see what's on these or just what's on the computer?"
"We should get it all back to our boys. Shut it down and pack it up. We'll leave the rest of this for the forensics team." Steve said and stopped Kono from breaking the seal on the evidence bag.
The thumb drives were pocketed again, and as Kono worked at the computer Danny and Steve took a closer look at the body.
"This is so stranger. What is with all this paper." Danny asked and with a gloved hand he poked through the mouse cables to the paper underneath. "It's hard as rock but it doesn't feel like it's been vanished or layered too heavily."
"You think there is something under the paper?" Steve asked as he came closer.
He followed the mouse cables to the man's neck and then followed the power cable to the ceiling where it was attached with a clip to a hook in the corner and then carried on across the ceiling and down the wall behind the computer. "I don't like this." Steve said under his breath and backed away slightly. "He's wired into something."
"Wired into what?" Danny asked and jump away from the body.
"Forensics and the ME should be here any minute." Chin said with a wave as he came back into the room from the hallway.
"Then, let's get out of here." Danny said.
"Yes, get out now." Steve stated as he grabbed Kono's shoulder. "We need to get the bomb squad here."
A screeching scream of something electronic rose through the house from the computer before Kono could move away. She'd been busy shutting down programs and as Steve touched her, she'd just hit the shut down on the computer, but the computer flashed to life with running codes and connections sounds.
"I guess I shouldn't have touched the computer!" Kono stated in a panic as a new messaged crossed the screen.
Five-O, how could you let this happen, just as you let my Alana die. Now justice will be done.
As quickly as the message appeared, so did a timer ticking down from three minutes.
"Get out! Get out now!" Steve yelled, grabbed Kono even harder by the shoulder and pulled as he ran.
Yelling through the house the four Five-Os split up and ran - pushing any one they saw coming at them away.
Steve and Kono made it out the front as Danny and Chin made it out the back and the shock wave of intense heat and the sound of the explosion followed them out and right into the waiting crowd of news media.
Glass flew, cameras and vans were toppled and push by the blast, and then there was quiet as the ringing erupted in Steve's ears.
