A/N: Sorry for the month long wait for updates, I've been doing a lot of reading so very little writing has been happening. The conclusion to this story happens in the next chapter. So we're almost done! YAY!

Enjoy!

Chapter 15: Remember, Remember.

Steve and Danny made their way toward the Hale but were stopped by blockades as they moved along. Becoming annoyed and frustrated, Steve parked the Camaro and carried on toward the office on foot. Reluctantly, Danny followed his partner until they reached the media perimeter and then the police line just beyond it.

"What the hell is going on?" Steve demanded as he came up to the SWAT team leader - Lou Grover - and the gathering of the bomb squad.

"There is a man inside threatening to blow up the Hale." Duke Lukela answered as he came forward. "The whole building has been evacuated, including Five-O, and the only signature we get in the building is the bomber."

"And SWAT hasn't moved in yet? What's wrong?" Danny asked.

"No, we haven't move. Not yet. Not until we get the go ahead from you - Governor's orders. It doesn't help that the crazy person inside want to talk to Five-O." Lou Grover explained and there was distain in his voice like this was a waste of his time.

"Is that what he wants? Fine. I'm going in!" Steve stated but Grover blocked his path.

"One crazy person going after another." Danny said and face-palmed himself. "Can we be rational for two minutes?" He asked his partner. "All I want is rational thought for two whole minutes. Is it too much to ask of you?"

"The bomber is McKeller!" Kono stated as she and Chin found their way to where they assumed Danny and Steve would be.

"I spotted him as we were evacuated and we slipped out after retrieving Wallace." Chin explained.

"What about Toast and Eric?" Steve asked.

"They took Wallace and headed for the precinct." Kono answered.

"So they're safe. What's stopping me from going in there now, Daniel?" Steve asked as he spun on his partner.

"I'd hope common sense and a glimmer of self-preservation that may reside somewhere in your soul, but now I see that's not an accurate description of the void that is inside of you." Danny said mockingly and threw his hands up in defeat. "How do we know McKeller isn't just waiting to see your face before he blows the whole place to the moon? Why not take this opportunity to stay safe and have SWAT take him out? Or is that just a really crazy notion on my part?"

"It sounds crazy to me." Steve spat.

"The security officers were the last ones out of the building. They said the man let them go so as to minimize the innocent lives being lost. He's doing this to make a statement." Duke explained.

"So he thinks he's Guy Fawkes?" Danny asked and shook his head.

"Guy Fawkes was parliament." Steve corrected.

"Yes, I know Steven, but all to set an example to contradict authority." Danny retorted.

"Why does he want to blow up this building to set an example in the first place?" Lou asked not knowing the full history of the Hale or the case that Five-O had been working on.

"Because he believes his daughter died in vain and there wasn't any justice for her. The bomber is the murderer of all those media people yesterday. This is his reckoning. He is looking for justice," Steve explained, "and as far as he's concerned justice wasn't served by us in this case."

"So do we just kill the man and hope that his fall doesn't trigger the bomb or do we try and save the building?" Lou asked.

"We try and save his life!" Steve said. "To prove that we can also bring justice to his daughter. We have to make this right."

"You were right, Cuz," Chin sighed as he shook his head.

"Right about what?" Steve asked.

"That you would want to walk right back into the building." Kono stated.

"You do know how insane this all sounds right?" Danny asked.

Steve nodded, "but we've got to try."

"We?" Danny asked and shook his head. "There is a bomb in there. I'm not going in there. I've had my fair share of bombs because of you, and those were unavoidable. This one is fully avoidable so I plan on avoiding it."

"I have a plan." Steve smirked.

"Of course you do, but that doesn't make me want to follow you into a building with a bomb."

"Oh come on Danny."

"No!"

Lou Grover, dressed from head to toe in a safety suit provided to him by the bomb squad, waited outside of the main entrance to the Aliiolani Hale. "My first mistake was doing this in the first place. Second mistake, giving McGarrett the benefit of the doubt!" He said to himself and then pulled opened the doors and walked in.

"Colin McKeller, I'm Captain Grover - HPD SWAT. It's time to go." Grover said as he found the man standing in the middle of the lobby.

"You aren't Five-O. I'm waiting for Five-O." McKeller stated with a shake of his head. "You should go. You don't deserve to die."

"Neither do you."

"I've killed four people and blown up a building. I deserve to die because I did these things, just as those people deserved to die for the role they played in covering up and hindering justice for my daughter. They died because they were corrupted cowards and instead of taking blame or part of the blame in what happened because they interfered and got too close, they pushed the blame elsewhere and that is wrong."

"Do you blame Five-O as well?"

"No, they did what they had to do, and I believe that if they could have done more, they would have."

"Then why do you want to blow them up?"

"I want to blow up this building. I want to make an example of this place to change the example of corruption that it already has. I don't want to kill anyone else. I just want to talk to them. I know there are other ways out. I know they'd be able to get away when I let them go, but I need them to hear me. I need them to know about Alana."

"They know about her. They are remorseful about her and they want to do whatever they can for her, but there really isn't much more that they can do. The men that were responsible for opening fire on innocent people, in the park that day, were caught and tried, and are in prison now. Justice was served and the man who fired the shot was charged with murder. It's all in the reports. HPD saw to it. Five-O did all that they could until the case was turned over to HPD."

"But she's been forgotten and misrepresented. She didn't deserve to be forgotten and pushed aside to make Five-O look bad."

"No, she didn't deserve that and that can be made right if you just stop. Just disarm the bomb and walk out of here with me. Take your hand off the trigger and let's go. I'll take you to Five-O to talk but you have to disarm the bomb." Grover said with his hands held out before him buying time as Steve and his team moved in around the lobby. "You don't need to set anymore examples. You don't need to fuel those people outside to keep getting in the way. Don't let the headlines today be about the explosion but make it about your daughter. Don't die here, but accept this as a way to have your voice heard."

"They won't listen to me. They never have."

"They will if you make them!" Grover insisted as the man relaxed slightly. "I'll help you. Five-O will help you. You don't have to die. You need to be the voice for your daughter." he added seeing that his words were working as McKeller dropped his arm.

Steve pounced in that moment. He rushed out of his hiding place and tacked the man to the floor. Kono and Chin moved instinctively, as well, until the struggling bomber was pinned and unmoving on the floor.

"I got it." Steve stated from his place straddling the man's torso. "I can disarm this."

"Get it off of him and get out of there!" Danny ordered from somewhere beyond the lobby. "Bomb squad is ready to move in once you come out. They will dispose of it."

"All right, Colin, time to end this and have that talk." Steve stated as he pulled the vest off of the bomber and detached the trigger from the bomb. "We'll make this right. You have my word on that."

"What rights do I have anymore? I've killed people. I deserve to die."

"Maybe, but not today and not like this." Steve stated, hoisted the man onto his feet and cuffed him. "All right Danno, we're coming out."

"Why didn't the detective come in with you?" Colin asked curiously.

"Because he has a daughter he wants to go home to tonight." Steve answered honestly.

"So then why was I forced into this?" Grover grumbled from behind his face mask. "I have a daughter I want to see too, you know."

"I gave you a bomb suit!" Steve stated and smiled. "And you weren't Five-O and we knew he'd already said he didn't want to take anymore innocent lives. Plus you sure know how to negotiate well. I'm going to keep that in mind, smooth talker. You'll always have a place with Five-O." Steve added.

"So he was the distraction?" Colin asked.

"We're sorry we had to do something, and like you said, we needed time to sneak back in." Steve said and there was sympathy in his voice. "We needed this to end this way."

"I forced your hand. I deserver this public shaming." Colin said and bowed his head as he was lead out of the lobby and back into the light, but what he was met with was quiet and only the yellow police barrier.

"Where is everyone?"

"We moved them out of the blast zone. We had to get them out of the way." Danny explained as he walked up to the group, followed by the men of the bomb squad, and waved them on into the Hale. "Contrary to popular belief, if we can manage it, we do try to keep people as safe as possible. We're going to move you into custody quietly and release a statement on the case. No one else needs to get involved to twist this anymore then it already is."

Colin hung his head but nodded.

"I just have one question," Steve said before he loaded the killer into a police cruiser. "Why kill them the way you did? What was the purpose of that?"

"My Alana was born on May the fifth. We celebrated Cinco de Mayo every year. Alana's favourite part was the piƱata. It seemed like a fitting tribute." Colin answered.

"Morbid, but I understand." Steve said with a nod and helped the hand-cuffed man into the back of a police car.
