Bad luck seemed to follow the Wolspert family. Not a member of the clan had gone a year without a broken bone, a financial disaster, a leaky roof, a broken nail. The Wolsperts were simply the unluckiest wizarding family in Britain. Every member of the family was uncommonly unlucky. Every member that is, except Neil.
You see, Neil Wolspert escaped death three times. Pretty impressive for a thirteen year old huh? Especially one so freckle faced and tiny with such a mountain of poor familial luck behind him.
He didn't always know that death had nearly claimed his life twelve times. That's the beauty of being a child. Close calls don't really register.
The first time, he was only three weeks old.
His dad- a new father- nearly dropped Neil on his head when picking his son up from his cradle. But Tim Wolspert had been a keeper and snatched his son in the air, inches from the ground.
"Let's not tell your mum about this." He said, as Neil snuggled against his chest.
The second time, he was six.
His mother, busy writing a letter to her mother, failed to notice her son wander into the kitchen by himself. She didn't miss him until she heard the crash. When she got to the kitchen, she saw Neil standing, surrounded by knifes that had fallen from the counter, perfectly unharmed.
"Neil! Never wander off like that again!" Helen exclaimed, clutching her son tightly in her arms.
The third time, he was twelve.
Neil always kept the D.A coin he had gotten in his pocket. He always checked it-just in case. The D.A had been the first place that Neil had ever really felt comfortable at Hogwarts. He missed it.
One night he went to bed early, having come down with a cough. He left the coin in his school pants and put the pants in the laundry bin. That night, the Death Eaters broke into Hogwarts, and nothing was ever the same.
I'm glad I didn't check it. He thought as he sat through Dumbledore's funeral.
The fourth time, Neil wasn't so lucky.
The third year (or what was left of him) was found (gathered) near the lake.
Neil Wolspert was killed on his thirteenth birthday. An unlucky day if there ever was one.
