54. Sturgis Podmore

A name is added to the memorial a month after the battle ends.

It is added quietly, and without ceremony. Hestia Jones insists that no fuss is made. She knows he wouldn't want it.

Years later, anyone who studies the memorial closely will wonder why that name, and that name alone is out of alphabetical order. They will wonder if the irregularity is significant. If they really care, they will look it up in one of the many history books written about the Battle of Hogwarts.

If they look it up they will find that he simply took a long time to die from the curse dealt to him on that bloody night. They won't find much else about him. Nearly all biographical information will be lost to the pages of history.

And that is how the death of Sturgis Podmore, one of the last standing members of the original Order of the Phoenix is marked. With a little fanfare and a hurried addition to an already standing memorial.

Which, if you knew him at all, is the way he would have wanted it.
