Fiona, Archibald, Peter, Andrew….

Their names etched forever on a slab of gold.

Luca, Stephen, Elizabeth, Colin, William….

Or for as long as forever can last for a mortal.

Isabella, Marietta, Sarah, Grace, Justin….

Their names, etched into a slab of gold, so the world would not forget their sacrifice.

Ambrosius, Daphne, Shimmy, Kenneth, Geoffrey, Mafalda…

So the world would not forget their stories.

Meghan, Susan, Nymphadora, Remus, Dominic, Eloise….

So the world would not forget their struggle.

Ava, Herman, Bem, Sally-Anne, Enid….

So the world would not forget their pain.

Mafalda, Stephen, Elizabeth, Olivia….

But the world did forget, because a mortal world cannot conceive forever.

Ronan, Albert, Mylor, Severus, Selena….

Those that can't remember are born, and those that do remember die.

Alicia, Hannah, Alice, Donaghan….

And the names, just become names.

Lisa, Veronica, Fred….

And what they meant, their stories, their memory, fades away.

Jack, Neil, Rosmerta….

The mortal world moves on, as it has always done.

Claudia, Sturgis…

And Death claims each name for his own.
