Rarity looked around the small room, and found a hole in the floor. (Recently, the careers had found their way to the top floor, there were five in all. The ruinous tower was filled with good weapons and items for survival). She looked down through the hole, and saw a pitch of black smoke fill the 4th floor.
"It doesn't look good down there," Rarity said.
"It's not good up here either," Shining Armor responded, "We have to get down-
"Wait," Rarity interrupted. She saw a blueish pony walking around the floor picking up supplies. "It's Trixie. Trixie is down there in the smoke."
"Didn't she get an eleven?" Tena asked.
"That's her," Big Macintosh said.
"We have to get down," Rainbowdash said, "Whether she's down there or not. If you haven't noticed, this tower is booby trapped."
As soon as she said this, she heard a scream. It was Rarity. She looked over at Rarity and saw her falling through the floor, a large hole forming in the ground. Rainbowdash flew through the hole as Rarity fell down through the levels of the tower, and Rainbowdash caught Rarity as she was about to hit the ground of the last floor.
"Thanks-" Rarity stopped as she noticed a dead body lying on the ground. Silver Spoon. The filly from District 8.
"Don't worry about her," Rainbowdash said, "She's not our kill."
"So who do you think killed her?"
"Trixie…" Rainbowdash said with malice clear in her voice. Who else would it be but the girl who got an eleven? "Hey, look over there." Rainbowdash pointed with her hoof outside of the tower. A young colt was lying around in the grass.
"Who's that?" Rarity asked.
"No one of importance," Rainbowdash said as she picked up her trident, "These two must be the ones that died from the cannons we heard earlier."
"What about our teammates," Rarity said, "Are we going to help them?" Rarity started walking carefully out into the open field. The tall grass flying in the wind.
"They'll get here," Rainbowdash responded. She laid down her trident in the grass, patient and waiting for her friends to arrive.
Sweetie Belle gasped for breath as she ran from the cornucopia. For some reason, Doctor Whooves wanted them to go into the dry patchy land. She didn't know why, but she figured Whooves had good reasoning. She looked at the desert-ish landscape, and heard a deep rumble come from the ground. With a closer look she saw holes. Thousands of holes, and they had light shining from them.
"I see," she heard a voice say from behind. She turned in a whirl and saw Doctor Whooves standing there.
"What do you mean?" Sweetie Belle responded innocently.
"Lava," Doctor Whooves said, "The holes are filled with lava. Nothing to be worried about, as long as we keep away from the holes."
"I definitely don't want to fall in there," Sweetie Belle joked. Well. It sounded more like a joke in her head.
"Exactly…" Doctor Whooves started leading Sweetie Belle around the holes in the desert. Safely escorting her through the dry, patchy land.
Suddenly a large burst of lava came from one of the holes. And a dolphin like creature flew onto the ground with the fiery liquid over its scaly body. It tried to charge at them, but it didn't have legs. Only fins. So it scooted back into another hole.
"What was that?!" Sweetie Belle shouted in fear.
"I don't know, but we need to stay away from any more of those." Doctor Whooves looked through his backpack that he found in the cornucopia. He took out a sweater, a comb, a tiny metal dagger covered in rust, and a water bottle. "This is it?"
"I guess so," Sweetie Belle said as she took a sip from the bottle.
"All we have to defend ourselves…" Doctor Whooves got deep in thought. But he wouldn't have time to figure this out, as another burst of lava was coming out of the ground.
"This forest is huge," Pinkie Pie smiled as she frolicked through the woods. The sound of footsteps in the snow was loud and erratic.
"Could you be a little quieter," Twilight interrupted as she trailed behind Pinkie. She was observing the land around, probably thinking about the worst case scenario that could happen right about now.
"But Twilight," Pinkie complained, "I wanna explore."
"If you haven't noticed," Twilight said, "This is a life or death situation. Maybe some tactical strategies, or finding a place to stay the night, or… or… maybe a little fear. Don't tell me you aren't afraid?"
"Afraid?" Pinkie Pie stopped walking, and Twilight stopped next to her, "Why would I be afraid? I LAUGH at fear!" She laughed confidently.
"Um…" Twilight didn't know what to say, "Is that healthy?"
"Perfectly," Pinkie Pie laughed.
"Ya-
"Wow! This is so exciting!" A loud voice chirped in.
"Quick. Hide!" Twilight whispered. She jumped into a set of bushes, and heard Pinkie Pie jump in another bush.
Scootaloo pranced by the bush Twilight was hiding in, with so much joy in her voice. "I have two strong, and hot colts to lead me through the forest. This is so great." She looked back at the two colts traveling behind her. Hot Shot and Soarin'. "Are you guys coming along or what?"
"Just a minute," Soarin' said happily, "Go ahead, we'll catch up." As soon as Scootaloo left, Soarin' and Hot Shot slowed down.
"I know what you're going to say," Hot Shot started.
"When are we getting rid of her?" Soarin' was in a rage, "The games have been going on for fifteen minutes and she's already annoyed the crap out of me!"
"We will…" Hot Shot said, "In time…"
"Fine," Soarin' said, "But if she isn't dead by tomorrow-
There was a rustle in the bushes.
Oh no! Twilight thought, Pinkie Pie!
"What was that?" Soarin' said.
"Maybe another tribute," Hot Shot responded. He took out a sharp looking dagger from his pack. It glistened in the dim light of the wood. He stabbed inside the bushes, and he removed the dagger from it with fresh blood covering the entire blade.
A tear slowly came off of Twilight's cheek.
"Wow," Hot Shot said, "This will make a great lunch!" He smiled as he pulled out a big rabbit from the bush.
"Maybe for one," Soarin' said, "That's a small rabbit. I'm a growing colt."
"Whatever," Hot Shot joked, "Food is food." They left to go catch up to Scootaloo, the sound of their feet hitting the snow trailing out of earshot.
"They're gone!" Twilight said, "Finally… but where was Pinkie?"
"Twilight!" a cheery voice sounded from above her, "Check this out!" Twilight looked up to see Pinkie Pie on a wooden bridge between the trees. Not to mention an entire canopy of wooden houses and bridges connected throughout the forest.
"Impressive find," Twilight shouted back, as Pinkie Pie pointed to a hidden ladder that would lead them to safety. For now.
