THE END COMES AT LAST

The Moment used her power to make herself and Elissa invisible to everyone, and then the two of them slowly and silently moved towards Clara. Elissa planned to take her by surprise and strip her powers from her before she even knew that she was there.

Too bad that Clara wasn't willing to play along with that idea.

Elissa and the Moment were both taken completely by surprise as Clara suddenly whirled around and assaulted both of their minds. The two of them soon found themselves joining the Time Lords on their knees as Clara glared at them in anger.

"Did you think that I didn't know that you were there or that I wouldn't know what was on your minds? How could you betray me like this, Rose? I trusted you!" Clara spat out.

"She's just trying to help you. Let her go," Jenny pleaded.

"Help me? She brought her here to take my powers away from me!" Clara said as she pointed to Elissa.

"So? You don't need them. Don't you realize that your powers are the whole problem? If it wasn't for them, none of this would be happening. They've done nothing but bring you trouble," Jenny said.

"Listen to her, Clara. Let the Moment's friend take your powers away so that you can have a normal life again," The Doctor pleaded.

"Alura, stop all of this. Believe me when I say that you're so much better than this. Please give this up now before we lose you forever," the Master said in a heartfelt tone.

Clara's eyes softened and the Doctor dared to hope for a moment that they were finally reaching her. Then her face became twisted with rage once again, and the Doctor's hearts slumped once more.

"Stop trying to trick me! If my powers are gone, the Time Lords will kill me without mercy now that they know about them. They'll always fear that they might return," Clara said.

"You don't know that," the Doctor said.

"Yes, I do, Doctor. I can read their minds. I know," Clara said.

"I wouldn't let them. I'd take you away with me. Far away where you'd be safe," the Doctor said.

Clara smiled as she said, "You'd try but we both know that you couldn't keep me safe from them forever. It's too late now. I have to stop them in order to save myself."

The Doctor looked at her in horror as he asked, "What do you mean by stop?"

"I don't want to but I have to. I have to . . ." Clara started to say but she choked before she could finish her sentence.

"Clara, listen to yourself! This isn't you! You're a sweet, caring person. You don't hurt people for any reason. What would Angie and Artie say if they could see you now? What would Merry say?" the Doctor said as he desperately tried to reach her.

"I'm doing this to keep them safe too. Sooner or later, they'll go after them in order to get to me," Clara said.

"You sound so much like my daughter," Elissa said as she struggled to talk through the pain of Clara's psychic assault.

"What?" Clara asked.

"She made excuses for her behavior too once she started using her own powers. She had powers just like yours, and at first she was afraid to use them. Once the Cybermen threatened our people though then she finally decided to use them in order to protect the Silurians of my world. The same madness that's now consuming you then quickly took her as well. She started justifying all of the horrible things that she did with her power just as you are. In the end, my daughter killed all of my people but me. She was just about to finish me off as well when she finally realized what she had done and turned her power on herself in order to save me. She . . . burned her own brain out," Elissa said in tears.

Clara's eyes softened once more and Elissa could feel her attack against her lessening as she said to the Silurian, "I am so sorry. Just because that happened to her though doesn't mean that it will happen to me."

The Moment now took this opportunity to speak up as she said, "I can let you meet her. Once you do, then you'll know why I brought Elissa here."

Elissa looked at her in surprise as the Moment continued speaking, "I can bring a past version of Elissa's daughter here. Once you meet her, all of your questions will be answered. If you still want to continue on the path that you're on after that, then I won't try to stop you. You can read my mind so you know that I'm telling the truth."

Clara nodded and then said, "Do it. Remember what you just promised me though. I can guarantee that I'll still do the same thing even after I meet her. There's no going back now."

"After you meet her, you might just change your mind," the Moment said as Clara released her hold on her and Elissa's minds.

The Moment then opened up a portal to the past, and a young Silurian immediately stepped through it. Clara knew from Elissa's painful gasp upon seeing her that this was her daughter. The young Silurian slowly walked up to Elissa in confusion and was then suddenly stopped as her mother grabbed her in her arms and hugged her tightly.

"I can't keep her here for long. I'm sorry," the Moment said.

"I know," Elissa said in a voice filled with pain.

"Mum, what's going on? How did I get here?" The young woman asked.

"Don't worry about it, Cla'ra. You're just dreaming," Elissa said.

Clara looked at her in surprise as she said, "What did you call her?"

"Use your power to look at her mind closely, Clara, and tell me what you find there," the Moment said.

Clara did just as she asked and then began to shake as she realized the truth. This young Silurian was one of her echoes!

"She's me," Clara said in a disbelieving voice.

"That's why I came here to help you. I've already watched one of you die. I didn't want the same thing to happen all over again. Not this time. This time I can stop it. I have to for her sake," Elissa said as she hugged her daughter even tighter now.

"This is the weirdest dream that I've ever had," Cla'ra said in a frightened voice.

Elissa knew that part of her daughter feared that it wasn't a dream after all.

"Now do you see why I'm so worried about you, Clara?" the Moment asked.

Clara shook with fear as she said, "What do I do? The Time Lords want to kill me, and the rest of the universe wants to enslave me. They're never going to believe that my powers are gone forever even if you do take them away. I don't know what to do."

Jenny quickly moved forward then and put her arms around Clara taking her completely by surprise as she said in a voice filled with fear, "Clara, please do what they want. Please. I only just found you again. Please don't do this!"

"Jenny, don't!" the Doctor said in a terrified voice.

Clara could hear the concern and worry in his voice for Jenny, and she knew that he actually believed that she could hurt his daughter. If she was being honest with herself, she wasn't sure what she was capable of anymore. She knew in that moment that she had to fix this situation somehow before what happened to her echo happened to her.

Clara wrapped her arms around Jenny and said to the Doctor, "Don't worry. She's safe."

"Are you sure?" the Doctor said.

"I'm going to make sure," Clara said.

"Clara, what are you going to do?" Tish asked with concern as she recognized from the sound of her voice that she had just made a decision.

"There's only one way that I know for sure that I'll never be bothered over my powers again. I have to put the genie back in the bottle," Clara said.

"What are you talking about?" Tish asked.

"Clara, you're not going to do something stupid are you?" Jenny asked.

"Probably but I have to try," Clara said with a warm smile.

"You sound like yourself again," Jenny said with a hopeful look on her face.

"Yes, and I'm going to stay that way if I can help it," Clara said as she closed her eyes and began to concentrate.

"Clara, what are you planning?" the Doctor asked with concern.

"If all goes well, hopefully you'll find out in a moment, Chin Boy," Clara said without opening her eyes.

Clara began to reach out all across the universe and all through time and space with her mind as she sought out everyone that knew that she had powers. She had to find every single one of them and do this right the first time. She knew that she wouldn't get a second chance at it.

Soon Clara had connected with the minds of everyone who had ever found out about her powers. Clara had great power but even she was at her breaking point, and she knew that she had to do what she had planned either now or never.

Clara screamed and her mind felt like it was about to explode as she wiped the memory of her powers ever existing from the minds of everyone everywhere except for the people that she was sure that she could trust with it. Clara became so sick that she actually collapsed from the effort of what she was doing, but she didn't allow herself to stop. She couldn't stop until it was finished.

Then once almost everyone had been made to forget, she smiled before collapsing on the ground. The Doctor immediately rushed to her side and held her close to him as he struggled to help her back to her feet.

The Doctor looked around him to see that the Time Lords and Cla'ra now all had blank looks on their faces as if they were in a trance. The Master, Tish, Jenny, the Moment, and Elissa however all looked fine. Whatever she had just done obviously hadn't affected them.

"Clara, what did you do?" the Doctor asked.

"You still remember then? Good. I didn't want to wipe your memories too. I just took a page out of Oswin's book, Chinny. I made everyone but the people I trust forget that my powers ever existed," Clara said in a weak voice.

The Doctor looked at her with surprise and then smiled as he said, "That is genius! That is just absolute genius!"

Then he became concerned as he said, "Clara, are you still going to let Elissa remove your powers?"

Clara smiled as she said, "What's the matter? Worried that I made everyone forget so that I could take over the universe?"

The Doctor's silence spoke volumes and Clara nodded as she said, "I'm not. I probably could do it but I'm not. Take me to her, and I'll let her do it. I promise. I'm too weak now to fight her anyway even if I wanted to."

The Doctor nodded and gave her a tender kiss as he said, "I'm so glad that you stopped yourself. I was so worried."

"I know. I'm sorry about that, Doctor. I'm just so glad that I stopped myself before I seriously hurt anyone," Clara said with relief.

The Doctor helped her walk over to Elissa, and the Silurian smiled at the worried look on Clara's face. She reached out and gently rubbed the top of her head before putting her hands on the sides of it.

"Don't worry, Clara. This won't hurt," Elissa said in a tone that Clara recognized as that of a mother trying to reassure her child.

"Go ahead. I won't try to stop you even if it does. I want this gone now," Clara reassured her.

Elissa's third eye then began to glow with power as she kept her hands on Clara's head. Clara felt the parts of her mind that she had recently opened up when she reached her full power beginning to shut down once more. She could feel that it was even more than that though. She could actually feel those parts of her brain dying. Elissa was actually killing them.

Fear went through Clara as she feared that Elissa might give her brain damage by what she was doing. Throughout the entire process, she had to fight the urge to stop her that kept threatening to build up inside of her.

Then it was finally over and Clara breathed a sigh of relief at last. She seemed to be okay.

Elissa obviously saw the look on her face as she said in a gentle voice, "It's alright. I only destroyed the parts of your brain that controlled your powers. The rest of it is fine. I could no more hurt you than I could my own daughter. In a way you are her after all even if you don't look like her."

"Thank you. Thank you so much. You've just saved my life," Clara said as she embraced her with gratitude.

"I did more than that. I just saved the universe. Believe me on that," Elissa said.

"I do. I do believe you. I just took a long hard look at myself and what I was becoming. I didn't like what I saw there. I'll be alright now, won't I?" Clara asked.

It was the Doctor who answered her as he said, "Of course you will. You're just as perfect as ever again."

Clara smiled as she said, "You think I'm perfect, Mr. Chin?"

"I don't think. I know," the Doctor said as he kissed her.

"Is she alright now?" Jenny asked Elissa while the two of them kissed.

"Yes, her mind doesn't have any lasting effects from her powers. She hasn't had them long enough for them to permanently warp it. My daughter had hers for a week before . . . she did what she did," Elissa said.

Jenny sighed with relief and said, "I'm so glad it's all finally over."

"It isn't over yet. We should leave before the Time Lords wake up or they might wonder why we're all here. I don't want to answer their questions. They're suspicious enough of me as it is," the Master said.

"I wonder why?" Tish asked as she shot him a dirty look.

"Tish, come with us. I made them forget that you ever became the President again. I even put a suggestion in their brains to elect a new one before I left them. You can go home again and so can I," Clara said with joy.

The Doctor looked at her with a worried look on his face as he said, "You're still going to travel with me and Blondie though, right?"

"I wouldn't miss it for the universe, Mr. Chin," Clara said with a warm smile just before she gave him a tender kiss.

"I'm not Blondie!" The Master protested.

"You kind of are actually. What happened to your hair anyway?" Tish said as she briefly smiled at him in amusement.

"It came out this color when I was revived from the dead. I don't know what happened. It was some kind of weird after effect," the Master said in an embarrassed voice.

"You should dye it back to the other color. I liked that better on you," Tish said with yet another smile.

"Really?" the Master asked as he looked at her hopefully.

"Well, any kind of change would be an improvement," Tish said as she began to frown at him once more and walked away from her.

The Master's hearts silently sank as he watched her go.

"What's going on between them anyway?" Clara whispered to the Doctor.

"I don't know," the Doctor admitted with a shrug.

"Let's go. Apparently there's nothing for us here anyway," the Master said to the Doctor in a sad voice.

The Doctor knew that something more was happening than he knew about, but he didn't ask any questions. He brought the TARDIS back into sync with normal time with his sonic screwdriver, and then everyone began to get into it as they prepared to leave before the Time Lords and the Ood all woke up.

Everyone but the Moment and Elissa that is. The Moment looked at Elissa sadly now as she knew what was coming.

"I have to send her back now while her mind is still in a blank state. She'll just think that it was all a dream like you said to her. I'm sorry that I can't save her," the Moment said.

"It's okay. I made my peace with this a long time ago. At least I got to see her as she used to be one last time. I wanted to remember her this way anyway instead of as the total stranger to me that she became," Elissa said in a heartbroken voice.

"I'm sorry," the Moment said again.

"I know," Elissa said.

The Moment sent Cla'ra back to the past and then said, "Now I'll send you back to Vastra's."

Elissa nodded but before the Moment could send her back she said, "You may not have been born Rose Tyler, but as far as I'm concerned you are her in all of the ways that matter. You certainly have her heart."

The Moment looked at her surprise as she said, "How do you know Rose?"

"I met her once. I had a veil over my face so I'm sure she doesn't remember me. She and the Doctor helped save a town that I was passing through in the late 1800s from the Cybermen who were after me. I had unwittingly led them there, but the Doctor and Rose never knew that of course. I never forgot her or the compassion that she showed to the residents there. You are her as far as I'm concerned."

The Moment smiled as she said, "Thank you."

Then she sent Elissa back to Vastra's home and joined the others on the TARDIS. She wished that she could have brought her daughter back to her somehow, but she knew that there was no way to alter what had happened to her because it was a fixed point in time. Even the power of the Vortex couldn't fix everything unfortunately.

"Is something wrong?" the Doctor asked the Moment as she entered the TARDIS.

"No, it's nothing," the Moment said with a small reassuring smile.

The Doctor frowned as it seemed as if everyone were keeping something from him lately. He was sure that it had something to do with the Silurian who had just left though. He wished that he could help her too, but he knew that there was nothing that he could do to bring her daughter back to her.

Clara meanwhile secretly smiled. She hadn't just been wiping minds a minute ago. She would tell the Moment the rest of what she had done later in private. She didn't want to speak about it around the Doctor or she knew that he would give her a major scolding over it.

It would have been more than worth it though even if he had.

As soon as Elissa returned to Vastra's home, Vastra said, "I'm so glad that you're back. I don't know how it happened, but someone's just arrived that you have to meet."

Elissa looked at her in surprise as she asked, "What are you talking about?"

Then her heart stopped as she saw Cla'ra come out of the backroom. Both of them gasped in surprise, and then they both embraced.

"How?" Elissa asked.

"I don't know. I remember wiping my mind and then nothing. Then all of a sudden, I found myself here with no powers at all. I have no idea what happened," Cla'ra said.

Elissa checked Cla'ra's brain and could see that her powers were really gone. They had been completely removed even as Cla'ra's memories and brain had been completely restored to normal.

She never had recovered Cla'ra's body. After she had destroyed her mind, the Cybermen had caught up to them and she had had to flee for her life. Could this really be her?

It had to be. She somehow knew that it was just like she knew who had done it. It seemed that Clara had worked out a way to undo fixed points in time after all before she lost her powers.

"Thank you, Clara," Elissa said in tears as she held her daughter close to her.

Somewhere in the Vortex, Clara smiled.

Next: The entire emotional roller coaster of Clara's powers is finally behind us now, and it's time to do some old fashioned traveling in time and space at last. Even as Clara's life gets back to normal though, the Master's life is still in turmoil. Exactly what is going on between him and Tish anyway, and why are they acting so strangely around one another? Clara and the Doctor will find out next time as a shocking secret is finally revealed at last that will completely surprise both of them.
