Chroma the Haze-Crested Owl
Chapter 10: First Impressions

Chroma and Soren, along with some help from Twilight , managed to finish cleaning the abandoned hollow out before the night was done, and just in time for lunch. Chroma had, so far, not talked to any one but a select few Owls that populated her new home, and was feeling on edge about going down for a public meal. "C'mon Chroma! The owls here are nice, and very understanding!" Soren crooned to her, as if she were a newly hatched owlet. Chroma, who had picked up on his tone of voice, let her feathers fluff up, she looked down at him over her beak saying "I'm well aware of that, I don't give two racdrops what owls think anyways! I'm just not sure I wanna get sucked into some huge crowd!" She ruffled her feathers and shifted her wings, looking a bit uncomfortable.
Soren and Twilight exchanged amused glances. "HAHAHAH" Twilight belted out a hearty laugh, shaking the branch they were on and the ones around them, earning some worried and annoyed glances from bystanders. Soren ducked his head down and walked further along, pushing Chroma and twilight before him. "Look, Chroma," he started off sounding a little concerned "me and Twilight understand you might have a fear of crowds" He chortled under his breath "but not many people even go to eat lunch, owls here have jobs, classes, or would probably rather do something else instead."
Twilight, who had long since escaped the wings of Soren, decided to chip in. "An' especially if they can jus' stuff their beaks at dinner, with tha amount of food this place has, people usually do!" He landed back on the branch, towering over the two young owls, and leaned down to look at Chroma "Plus, you really don't wanna pass up the opportunity to try some of the food they have here. They do this thing called cookieing! and it tastes great!" at that moment, a small owl, about half the height of Soren, landed behind them. "Actually, Twilight, its called cooking, not cookieing."
The three owls jumped turning to gaze down at the small owl. She looked at Chroma, then at the other two owls "Care to introduce us?" Quickly getting over the surprise of her appearance, Soren nodded. "This is Chroma, he is a different type of owl, a Haze-Crested Owl." He gestured to Chroma "and this is Gylfie, she's an Elf Owl." He then gestured to Gylfie, who dipped her head at Chroma. "Or if you want to get scientific, I'm a Micrathene whitneyi." She said this in a smug sort of manner, as if she was pround of her intelligence, Chroma figured that she probably was. "Well My species is also known as a Stripe-Masked Owl, for obvious reasons." She raises a wig to her brown and white striped face, then continues talking "my species scientific name is Strix-Kennicotti." She smiles widely down at the small owl.
The elf owl blinks, then leans in closer to Chroma, narrowing her gaze and studying her studiously, causing Chroma to shift uncomfortably. "I've heard rumors about blue-eyed owls before, ones with similar markings, rumors from the Southern kingdoms...they say your species is dwindling...what are you doing here?" The little owl seemed to be thinking out loud. "I moved here with my...with my parents...when i was a bit younger...WE came here for a few different reasons, but...well...I dont really wanna talk about it anymore..." She trailed off, the thought of her parents was upsetting to say the least. Soren gave her a worried look.
Twilight bumped her on the wing and said "Cheer up!" and Gylfie just nodded in an understanding way. "H-hey...I think eating might be a good idea...I just realized how hungry I am." Chroma said thins just as her stomach growled. The other owls chuckled lightly, and the group made their way to over to the food, making small talk as they stood by a table.
Hope you liked this chappy! Shorter then most, which is sad cuz their always short, but anyways, i have started updating some of my other stories, or for most, i have the chapters written just haven't posted them. :P sowwy for the wait. baibai lovely readers~
