Chapter 35

When their asari doctor first ran the idea of having Shepard help Liara breast feed their twins, she wasn't entirely sure how to feel about it. She'd gotten rather used to the idea of being the 'daddy' figure, but as she gazed down at her little bundle of joy, she knew she'd made the right decision. Naiala's little blue lips were latched onto one of her breasts, and Shepard was surprised to find it was kind of pleasant. It was actually a relief since the estrogen did its job and her breasts began to grow heavy with milk. Because asari diets were slightly different, she had to take a vitamin supplement as well, but Naiala and Elaria didn't seem to care at all who fed them, as long as they got fed. The loving smile on Shepard's lips widened and she settled herself a little further into their fluffy, king-sized bed.

She glanced over at her sleeping bondmate and was glad again she made the decision to help feed their twins. Elaria was sleeping soundly in Liara's protective arms, and the sight made the human's heart ache with happiness. After a morning of diaper-changing and hustling through breakfast, they had retired back to their bed for an afternoon nap. She reached over and carefully pulled the blankets up her bondmate's shoulders until both Liara and Elaria were covered more fully. When they looked nice and warm, she turned her attention back to Naiala.

"You're five whole days old," she crooned to the little bundle snuggled in her arms. "How does it feel to be five whole days old?"

Sleepy fuchsia eyes gazed up at her with endlessly adoring love as she continued to gently suckle. As much as she loved the sentiment behind their eyes, what she loved most were the little lavender freckles sprinkling their cheeks. The pattern was similar to Liara's and she adored every one. She decided her new life goal was to kiss every single one of her three girls' freckles every day from here on out.

"Whatchoo think," Shepard continued in a soft voice so as not to disturb her bondmate and other daughter, "think you're old enough to meet your Uncles Wrex and Garrus? And what about Aunts Tali and Williams? I know Williams is the scariest of the four of them, but I promise she has a heart of gold."

Naiala let out a little noise of agreement. Shepard's grin widened further, and she tenderly ran her fingers along the little one's crest. Asari were significantly smoother to touch than human babies, as well as less wrinkly. She felt like she kept using the word "perfect," but she couldn't think of a better way to describe her little ones. What more could she possibly want from life? As if to accentuate the point, Twitchy shifted in his cage with a soft squeak, and Legion, who was currently curled up on the foot of the bed, nestled further into the nest of blankets he'd made himself.

"Oh my Little One," Shepard breathed, overwhelmed by another wave of love for her little daughter. "I'm going to be the best daddy in the world. I promise I'll do everything I can to give you everything you could ever want. But I also promise to say no when I need to, to discipline you when you need limitations, and to hold you when you need to feel safe. There will never be a time, even if you're mad at me after I discipline you, when you will feel unloved."

Naiala moved her lips away from Shepard's breast and made several contented noises after burping up a bit of milk. Smiling, Shepard wiped the infant's mouth with a soft cloth, then leaned down and tickled her daughter's face with a bunch of light kisses. When she pulled back, her heart fluttered at the sight of Naiala giving her an adorable toothless smile. She settled into the blankets next to her wife and other daughter, nuzzling Liara's nose as she settled her head in the pillows. Soon she and Naiala were fitfully dozing, and before she fell asleep, Naiala's little face nuzzled into Shepard's neck with a happy little sigh. Shepard was sure, in that moment, she would die of happiness.

An hour or so later, Shepard woke to the feel of pressure on her lips. They immediately curled into a grin and she returned the kiss with enthusiasm. Her wife pulled back after a few moments and ran her fingers through Shepard's thick red hair, giving her a beautiful smile.

"Did you have any trouble feeding Naiala?" Liara asked softly so as not to wake their sleeping twins.

"Not at all. She ate like a champ."

Liara grinned and gave her another sweet kiss. "Takes after her father. I've seen you shovel it in 'like a champ.' And despite what Wrex thinks, you can eat faster than a krogan."

"Hey. I'm offended. I think."

"Perish the thought."

"Speaking of Wrex, when can we invite everyone over to meet our Little Ones? Not all at once, of course. But I gotta show off the two cutest little girls in the galaxy after all."

Liara pressed her lips to Shepard's again in a series of loving kisses. "I love you," she purred around the kisses. "And I'm not sure we're going to last the recommended three weeks."

Shepard let out a soft, surprised laugh and pulled back to gaze into sapphire eyes. "Oh? What did I do to put you in such a mood?"

Liara ran the backs of her fingers along Shepard's cheek and chin. "You love me. You love our daughters. It makes me want you. So much."

Shepard kissed Liara's fingers when they brushed over her lips. "Maybe two weeks if we use extra applications of Medi-gel?"

Liara's wonderful giggle filled the air, causing Legion to stir and begin to wag his tail. "Well just because I'm still too sore doesn't mean I don't have plans for you, My Commander."

"'Fraid not, T'Soni."

One of her wife's brow markings shot up. "No?"

"Two can play at the self-denial game. So this Commander ain't getting any action until you are. Plus, it will make our orgasmic glory all the more sweet if we both wait."

Liara giggled again and playfully swatted her chest. "Anyway," she said with a shy smile, "we were discussing when to invite Wrex over. Maybe when they're a month old?"

Both of them glanced at Legion when he suddenly shimmied up the bed and began sniffing their twins. Then both Shepard and Liara said "Aaaawww," when he began licking both of their little chests.

"It's official. Legion is the most awesome varen pup in the universe," Shepard declared.

Liara giggled. "I think all your pets win 'best pets in the universe' awards."

"Our pets," Shepard corrected with a grin. "Everything I own is now half yours. Except my heart. That's all yours. You stole it 'cause you're selfish."

Liara pulled Shepard's face in for another kiss with another mischevious grin. "Fair is fair. You stole mine on Therum, my dashing knight."

They both glanced down when their twins began making soft little giggle noises from Legion's tickling nose and tongue. Shepard was sure she couldn't smile any harder than she did in that moment. Was it possible for her heart to explode from happiness?
