Chapter 10: Meeting The Family
*Emmett*
I walked up the walkway to Bella's house, nervous about asking her to come meet my family. I knocked on the door and waited for an answer.
"Hey, Emmett. Come on in."
"Hey Chief."
"Bells is in the shower. She will be out soon. Have a seat."
"Thanks. I came to ask if you wouldn't mind Bella going with me this weekend to meet my family?"
"Your dad called last night after you left. I told him as long as Bells was okay with it, it was fine with me."
"Leave it to dad to jump ahead." I laughed.
"Hey, Em. What you doin here?"
I turned to see Bella freshly out of the shower. I walked over to her. "I came to ask if you wanted to go with me this weekend to meet my family?"
"Dad? Is it okay?"
"I done said yes as long as you wanted to go."
"Then when do we leave?"
I smiled. "In the morning. It's a few hours drive so I say we leave around ten."
"Sounds good. I'll go get packed." She walked up the stairs and I turned to Charlie who shook his head in approval for me to follow her.
"Will you grab my shower bag and things from the bathroom please?"
"Sure." I reached in the shower and grabbed the small tote bag and grabbed her brush, tooth brush, tooth paste and deoderant off the sink. "Here you go."
"Thanks. So, what should I pack?"
"Anything Alice bought you. It's going to be warm there." I stood against the door frame watching her. She made her way around her room with ease. I couldn't help but smile at how quick she was at getting her bag packed. She truly was amazing.
"I guess thats it. If I need anything else I'm sure Alice will have a shopping trip in the works." She laughed.
"That she will." I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her waist. "I'm glad you agreed to meet my family."
"Why wouldn't I want to? I'm sure I'll love them."
"You will. Esme will fall in love with you."
She smiled that smile I had begun to fall in love with. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Can I stay tonight?"
"As long as you act like you're leaving and come back in through the window when dad goes to bed."
"Deal. I'll take my leave. I'll see you in a bit." I leaned down and placed a kiss on her lips.
Bella followed me down the stairs to the front door.
"Night, Chief. I'll be by around ten in the morning. Night, Bella." I said before walking out. I climbed in my Jeep and drove it a few blocks over before running back to the house. I sat in the bushes listening in
"Well, I'm off to work. Will you be okay alone tonight?"
"I'll be fine dad. Just going to check my emails then go to bed."
"Okay. Call the station if you need anything." Charlie gave her a quick hug and a kiss on the head before he left.
Bella locked the door then went back to her room. She grabbed her laptop and sat on her bed. Once Charlie was goe I scaled the tree outside her window and climbed in. She looked my way when she heard me.
"Hey you."
"Hey. What ya doin?" I asked as I sat beside her.
"About to check my mail real quick. I don't mind if you listen in. Open Email."
"You have two new messages."
"Open first email."
"BELLA!" Three voices yelled at her. "Hey girl! It's us again! How tha hell are ya? Got your last email. We are glad to hear you're doin good. So, one thing we wana know. Is this Emmett guy treatin you right? If not, you know we will come kick his ass! We miss you! We still over here in desert land. Got good news that we may be home by the new year. Sure hope so. We comin to see you first thing! Well, hate to cut this short but it's lights out for us. Holla back chick! We love you!"
"Okay, who were they?" I asked confused.
"The guys I served with. Franklin, Harding and Jenkinson. They are like brothers to me. Hopefully one day you will get to meet them."
"Maybe so."
"Reply email. Hey guys! I'm awesome! Its always good to hear from y'all! Ans about Emmett, yes, he is treating me great. No need to kick his ass, although I'd love to see the three of you try. I believe he could take you all on. I so hope you guys get to come home soon! And I better be the first person you see when you get stateside. HaHa. Can't stay on too long. Gettin up early to go meet Em's family. Love you guys! Send email."
"Email sent. Opening second email."
"Hey, sweetheart. It's mom. How are you? I heard about your accident. I'm so sorry. I hope you are okay. Just a quick check up. When are you coming home. Looks like Phil and I aren't going to last much longer. Anyway. Talk to you later. Mom."
I watched Bella as she listened to the email. I gently nuged her. "You okay?"
"She hasn't spoken to me in years. Now she decides to contact me. All she wants is for me to come back and take care of her. I can't do it."
"Then don't. Let's get you some sleep. Come on." I picked up the laptop and took it and set it back on her desk. I helped her under her covers and wrapped her in my arms.
"I like this."
"Like what?"
"Being in your arms at night. It makes me feel safe. I can actually have a good night sleep."
I smiled. "You will always be safe with me. I promise. Now get some sleep." I kissed the top of her head. It wasn't long before I heard the sounds of her in deep sleep. I smiled to myself as I listened to her gentle heartbeat and breathing. I kissed her again before I closed my eyes.
*Bella*
I woke to the feeling of something hard under me. I felt my way up to feel Emmett's face.
"Good morning, Beautiful."
"Morning. What time is it?"
"Around nine. I need to go get showered and ready to go. I'll be back in an hour."
"Okay. I'll see you in an hour." I leaned up to meet him in a kiss.
I felt him get out of bed and go out the window. I got out of bed and felt around for my overnight bag. I got my brush, toothbrush and toothpaste out. I made my way to the bathroom to relieve myself and do my morning routine. Once done, I dresses in pants and a tee then slipped into my shoes.
"Bells. I'm home."
"Coming dad." I made my way down to the kitchen to the smell of coffee.
"Want some?"
"Please."
"Here you go, kid." He set the cup in front of me before patting my shoulder. I heard him sit across from me and take a sip. "So what time is Emmett coming to get you?"
"Ten."
"Okay. Well, I'll tell you somethin. Carlisle is a nice guy. Always liked him. Edward on the other hand always gave trouble. Watch out for him."
"Will do, dad. Will you be okay while I'm gone all weekend?"
"Sure. I survived before you came." He chuckled.
"Just makin sure." There was a knock at the door.
"Hey, Jacob. What brings you by?" I heard dad ask from the hallway.
"Dad wanted me to drop off a few things. I unloaded them by the shed."
"Thanks. Come on in a minute. Bells is in the kitchen."
I heard someone walk towards me and sit down. "Hey you. Long time no see."
"Yeah, it has. How are you?"
"Good. You look good."
"Thanks. I'd say the same bout you if I could see."
"Oh, uh, I forgot. Sorry."
I chuckled. "It's okay."
Just then there was another knock at the door. I heard dad answer it.
"Come on in. Bells, Emmett is here."
I walked into the hall to greet him. "Hey, you."
"Hey, short stack. You ready?"
"Yeap. Just got to grab my bag. Be right back."
I walked up the stairs, grabbed my two bags and walked back down. Emmett took the biggest one from me.
"Bye, dad. See you in a few days."
"Bye, Bells. Have fun."
"I will. Bye, Jacob."
"Later."
Emmett walked beside me to his Jeep and helped me in. I flipped through his cd case and found Linkin Park and put it in. He gave a chuckle as he pulled onto the road.
"You must be tryin to seduce me with all this bein like me stuff."
"Who says I'm tryin to do anything? It's jus what I like."
"And that I like. Get ready for hours of loud music and non stop awesomness!"
I couldn't help but laugh. I was really beginning to like Em more and more. I wasn't too nervous about his family liking me. I just had this crazy feeling like they would though.
"So, tell me about your family. Alice has told me some, but I want to know them from your point of view."
"Well, Carlisle is great. He took us all in when we first changed. He's like a father figure. He makes sure we all are okay and taken care of. He's the go to guy about things we still don't understand. Then Esme. Our mother. She is the sweetest person I've ever known. She is compassionate as they come, but has a nasty temper when someone messes with her family. I love her. You already know Alice. Jasper is quiet. Stays to himself. He hasn't been with the family long. Only about a decade. He still has some trouble around humans. He did feed on humans for centuries. But I think you two would get along. Then there is Edward. He is a good guy, just out of place. He finds trouble. Always the one to start a fight just for entertainment. He used to be the level headed one til one day he just decided to go out and came back totally different."
I sat abd listened to him tell me about everyone and different stories. Threw hours passed before we stopped. He helped me to the bathroom and get some food. He fueled up and we was off again. I fell asleep sonewhere along the way. The next time we stopped, we had arrived.
*Emmett*
I pulled up at the house. Bella had fallen asleep once we crossed the border. I gently shook her awake.
"Bella. Wake up. We're here."
"Hmm. Okay."
She rubbed her eyes and sat up. I looked past her to see Alice bouncing down the steps. She skipped her way to us and opened Bella's door.
"I'm so glad you're here! We have been waiting forever!"
"It hasn't been that long. It's good to see you again."
"Come on, let's get inside. Everyone is waiting."
Alice helped her out while I grabbed the bags. We made our way inside to see my family waiting in the living room.
"Emmett. It is so good to see you."
Esme hugged me. "It's good to see you. Esme, this is Bella. Bella, my mother, Esme."
"Hello, Bella. It's nice to finally meet you."
"Same here. Do you mind if I?"
"Of course. We all wouldn't mind."
Bella reached up and felt of Esme. I could see her smile. Then came Carlisle.
"Hello, Bella. I'm Carlisle. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Same here. Em is always talking about you and your wife. I'm glad I finally get to meet y'all."
I smiled at Bella. She did know how to make me look like the best guy ever. She next met Jasper. He was weary but after getting the okay from Alice he got closer.
"Hello, Bella. A pleasure to meet the girl who tamed the wild beast." Jasper placed a kiss on her hand.
"It was nothing. Just a few video games and a shock collar and I had him civil."
"A sense of humor. Just like you Em. Just what needs to be around."
I turned to see Edward standing on the stairs, his arms folded in front of him. I could see the sarcasm on his face.
"Edward, come meet Bella. Be nice to your brother." Esme said with her look.
"Hey. I'm Edward."
"Bella. Nice to meet you."
Edward took her hand and let it linger longer than I liked. He kept looking her up and down. I finally had enough and put my arm around Bella.
"So, how bout we get Bella situated and begin the family festivities?"
"Sounds good. Alice, show Bella to her room please?" Carslile asked.
"Come on, Bella." Alice pushed me away and led Bella off.
"She's hot bro."
"Edward, I will only warn you once. Stay away from her and leave her alone. She doesn't need you around to bug her."
"Sure. I'll stay away. But can she stay away from me?"
He smirked and walked off. Sometimes I just wanted to rip his limbs off and watch him try to put himself back together. It was goin to be a long weekend.
