Hello, I'm back from the dead and my Y works again! I hope you'll enjoy this chapter and I love you all! I know that this is too mainstream, but XOXOXOXO
Love, YayaPear
It was seven in the morning and all the BLU team has been stated in front of the building and ready for the battle. Although they were used to get up early and be ready around the said hour, they couldn't avoid yawning and complaining about the coldness of the morning. The sun was just creeping up from behind the ugly, cube-like grey base and heating up the battlefield that was already ready to soak some more blood in. Liam touched his forearms and rubbed his hands against his slightly tanned skin covered with goosebumps. His breaths were forming into tiny clouds of condensed water and it looked like he was smoking, although he quitted it years ago. In few moments Soldier appeared from around the corner, giving them his usual motivation speech that no one already listened to.
"…Don't forget. Try to fight as best as you can. Kill every little RED running rat that your eye spots. And most importantly, be faithful to your team and don't betray your teammates. Don't ya dare to cope with them and make pacts with 'em. Because if you do, bat things will happen, remember my words." He ended his speech and turned his back at them. That meant that they were about to grab their equipment and guns and get ready to fight. Liam took a look around himself. Oh, another day that he'll have to suffer through. Suddenly he smelled a strong scent of cigarettes and an invisible hand grabbed his shoulder. He gasped, but as soon as he felt warmth next to his ear his breath froze inside him.
"Remember Sniper, bad thingz will happen…" Sometimes blue shades looking like a hand flashed on his shoulder as the fingers dug deep into his skin. Then it disappeared as fast as it appeared. … Liam stood there like he had been turned into stone. His mind went numb and jaw muscles tensed so much, that it released a good amount of pain. Liam didn't know exactly what to think, but he knew that he was screwed, so screwed, so damn screwed. He felt blood leaving his face and skin, going deeper in his veins as a result of fear. He was frightened to his bones, the whole world spinned and jumped. All this emotions mixed together just two second before the starting siren went off and announced the start of the deadly fight. His mind woke up and he got to some sniping view as fast as he could. He just sat there…and? He wasn't looking at the battlefield, he didn't even set his rifle up. He didn't understand. How. How? How did the Spy get to know about their…affair? Oh yes, he was a spy, it is his job to reveal other people's secrets. But had he told someone? Anyone? Or maybe he just…erm…said it. For nothing. Just because of fun, eh? No, Liam didn't feel like that. He was deeply in the problem right now, because somebody got to know his, no, their secret.
"What?!" Viktor's eyes were wide open and his face held a terrified expression.
"I don't know how, but he knows. He KNOWS dammit!" Liam swallowed hardly. Medic's office has already been empty and all of the patients healed. It was just the two of them. There was an uncomfortable silence between them, feeling like an icecube that with ever unspoken word was just growing. Viktor took a long, suffering breath.
"Do you think, zhat he told anone?" Liam was unsure.
"I don't know. Maybe yes, Soldier was staring at me nearly whole lunch." Viktor snorted.
"Who wouldn't? You look so pitiful, like a puppy zhat destroyed master's slippers. And you're pale like death." Liam's lips thinned.
"I look like that only now. I tried to keep my face clear from all emotions. And you're pale too." Viktor just nodded. There was another stretching silence, neither of them dared to speak. This shouldn't have happened, no. Everything was so easy, so happy until now. Liam tried to recall all the bad things that happened. Viktor lying in a pool of blood when they met, his father's death, fake heart attack, Viktor accidentally shooting his teammate. These all things seemed distant, like they were totslly nonsensical, like they didn't even belong to their story. They were meant to live happily, without bad things. And yes, of course. His burns. They were now just scars on his right hand and side. He totally forgot about them. Thin, flame-like sneaking up his hand and glowing in the dim lights of the office. If the RED Pyro hadn't set his view on fire, none of this would have happened. No, if he didn't save Viktor back then it wouldn't happen. But why did he save him in the first place? His brain was starting to hurt. He looked at Viktor. Amazing how one sentence could bring one's mind to the edge of aberration. He looked closer and he knew that the most recent direction of his thoughts was completely wrong. That man, standing just one hand reach from him…he adored him. He loved him, he even told him few times. He shouldn't be thinking of those things, he'd better be thinking of how to solve the problems.
"You know…" He was torn out of his thoughts, staring at Viktor. He connected their gazes.
"Today, there was a break-in to our store room with guns. I heard our soldier reporting it to zhe Administrator. There are two guns missing, one revolver and a common rifle," he was quiet for a little while, but then he spoke again, "the only possible culprit is someone from the BLU team and…there are two reasons vhy he vould want to take it. The first is, he would want to make our team weaker by the loss of guns, which is less likely, because he took only two gunz. And then…then there is other reason: teamkill." And it was there for the third time, the silence.
"Do you think…that there's someone from my team that is trying to teamkill someone, or in the worse case, intending to kill me?"
"Or us." Liam threw his head back.
"Oh come on, that is just ridiculous."
"You didn't even think about it." Viktor caught the point. "Based on zhe personality of the ours, I would think of yours Soldier. Zhe value of live had never mattered to him." Liam tilted his head.
"Yeah, it might be possible. But can we stop conspiring now? Even if he wanted to kill me, or us…what are we going to do? I mean now, when there's a menace…What are we going to do?" Viktor opened his mouth, but then he closed it again. They were both out of ideas. Minutes passed. The silence was disturbed by Liam's sharp, but quiet inhale.
"We could run away." He whispered. Viktor raised his eyes glistening with hope.
"You know, the promise you gave me. That you will go wherever I go if I wish you to do so," A smile rose on Viktor's face, "now I think that we should pack our things, put them into my vehicle and…disappear into the night." Viktor nodded slowly.
"Yes, I see that az the only possible solution. We should think of zhe way how we'll get out." Now Liam nodded.
"I'll bring papers to write down ideas." He said dryly and Liam sat down beside the office table.
After one and two and half hours of planning and three bad plans they came up with the best that they could make up.
"So, let's say it one more time. In next two days I'll replace my car from its actual place somewhere closer to the front gate. Then, during the night you'll come here and put your suitcases there. And then we'll enter the password and run away. You know it, right?" Medic just frowned.
"If I know what? The password?" Liam nodded wit concern in his eyes.
"Yes. Every time we go to post office outside the battlefield Soldier has to type it on the keyboard next to the main gate. After so many times I saw him typing I remembered it." Liam nodded again and looked at the notes written down on the sheet of paper. Will it work? The plan sounded so easy to perform, but there were a lot of things that could possibly and likely go wrong. What if the passcode has been changed? What if someone will ask him why he is reparking the van? This is so desperate. He swallowed and looked at Viktor once more. His lips were squeezed into a tight line and he was obviously worried. Liam reached out for his hand and covered it with his larger palm. Viktor sighed and buried his other hand in his dark hair. In his eyes was a slightest glimpse of wetness. His light blue eyes rose to meet Liam's.
"Could you hold me, please?" His whisper was barely audible. Liam smiled weakly and cautiously sat on Viktor's chair, placed his tall body behind the smaller one and closed the doctor in a tight hug. Viktor fully relied on Liam and put his pale hands on Liam's long ones. His body trembled a little and he slowly leaned his head back against Liam's neck.
"What the hell were ve thinking?" He choked out with and his chest grew from suppressed sobs. Liam's head went closer to Viktor's face.
"Hm?" He offered him an ear to listen and heart to understand.
"I mean…we were running around carelessly like zhis everything belonged to us, like zhere was nothing that could happen. And now, when there's something wrong we're just panicking." Liam squeezed him even more tightly. He thought for a while and then he spoke.
"For good or worse. Until now it was good and now it is the worse part of this…thing." Liam felt like he had just said the wisest thought of his life. Viktor frowned.
"Did you just quote a marriage vow?"
"And so what?" He chuckled lightly and the vibrations shook through Viktor's smaller body.
"Should I be expecting something?" He asked teasingly, finally with a smile on his face. Liam laughed one more time.
"Oh shut up. I'm just trying to say that when we'll complete our plan and stay together, things will get radically better." Viktor relaxed against Liam's chest and they just sat there relying on each other physically and mentally. They didn't know how much time had passed. Viktor then simply got up, turned around and kissed Liam on cheek, while pinning him on the chair with his hands on his shoulders
"Allright, For good or worse. Now I'm going to zhe basement under my office to take my suitcases for my things." He stopped relying on Liam's shoulders and pulled away, but he fell back again. Liam was holding his tie. Again.
"You must love zhat tie."
"Yes I do love it. Can I go with you and help you?" Viktor pursed his lips lips and his eyebrows crinkled as he thought.
"Well…There's a way that just a few people use…but don't you think zhat we should be more careful now? You know, wandering around in enemy base izn't the brightest idea." Liam nodded.
"How many suitcases d'ya have?"
"Six."
"And is the passage long?"
"No, just few sweeps."
"Well then I can help you take them in one trip. If someone saw you bringing all your suitcases up it might get suspicious." He agreed hesitantly. They got up and went ahead to the basement. Medic was right; it was very short way to one underground room, where everyone had their suitcases. Viktor's weren't very big, but they were heavier then they seemed, so they did crack a sweat while carrying them. They tried to be as quiet as possible and in a short time they were done. Medic stretched his aching back and his vertebrae cracked.
"Vell, it's time for packing I suppose." Liam was about to leave, but he noticed something…strange. Was Viktor missing something? His clothes, it was definitely different than it was before they went for the suitcases. Oh…Yes, he knew.
"Viktor? Where's your vest?" Viktor's hands flew up to his chest, trying to touch the soft cotton, but they collapsed on his shirt. He looked around the room furiously, but his eyes found nothing.
"I…I must have forgotten it in the basement when I put it down." When they were in the room full of suitcases he put the vest off because he was too hot in it. Now it was lying there, abandoned. They looked at the door leading to the passage and walked against it.
"Gott, what a fear. It always raises my pressure vhen I'm walking around in this base with you." Liam just snorted.
"Yeah, I'm not perfectly calm as well." There was a smirk on doctor's face.
"You'll have to kiss those nerves out of me later, you know." They giggled.
"God, what has gotten on your mind? Anyway, why not now?" Viktor's smile grew bitter.
"Don't you prefer somewhere more private?"
"Just one kiss…" Liam half-pouted. Viktor laughed heartedly and caught Sniper's hand. They were approaching a crossroad between a suitcase room and some other abandoned room.
"Allright, but wait. I have to check if zhis room iz empty." He went a little forward, stretching their holding hands. Liam just rolled his eyes. It has been empty five minutes ago, it has to be empty now as well.
"Let's say it is." He released Viktor's hand and touched his side lovingly. Viktor turned around sharply and Liam managed to meet him halfway and kiss him sweetly. Viktor enjoyed the closeness, the sweet tickling in his chest and reached for Liam's shoulders to caress them. The tickling from his chest moved to the back of his neck and changed into not-so-comfortable pricking. He opened his eyes from the discomfort and looked to the right, to the abandoned room. It's door has always been closed and locked. But not now. Now it was wide open, opened just a while ago, because on their first trip they were still closed, and for his biggest fright, there was someone standing there, watching them. All the color drained from Viktor's face. Oh how forsakenly stupid they were, both of them. He wanted to scream, he indeed did, but his voice was muffled by what else, than Liam's lips. He fully blew into his mouth, but still looking at the person inside the other room. Or people? It looked like there were two people standing inside, holding each other tightly and the taller one was hiding his face, burying it in other one's neck. Liam pulled away, coughing because of the lungful of air he received from his boyfriend and he looked on the other couple as well. The smaller person inside was RED Scout being tightly held by someone unknown and with the same shocked expression as they had. Scout's eyes shifted from side to side, then looked at the person that was holding him and he looked like he was about to say something, but Medic has been faster.
"We won't tell anything if you won't tell anything." He knew that both pairs had been doing something permitted, because the figure holding his team Scout was clearly male and no civil could have gotten on the battlefield and in the basement of the base. They were both in the same deep trouble and the only thing that could keep them safe was shared blind trust. And it worked. Scout nodded firmly, but Medic could see, that he had been baffled. As soon as the youngest man agreed, Viktor swiftly caught Liam's hand and started to pull him back against his office. Liam was utterly confused and he was looking at the door and back at the passage and then to his boyfriend. Viktor's lips were squeezed into a tight line of anger and he pulled Liam closer.
"I told you zhat it would be better to check zhe room first, dummkopf." He whispered furiously and looked at Liam reproachfully. All the Australian could do was sigh about his own carelessness. They got back to the office and Viktor slammed the door behind them. Liam sat on the chair and looked at the floor in shame. The doctor eyed him half angrily, half curiously.
"Our only luck was the promise, now we have to trust them foolishly." Viktor said softly and Liam nodded quietly, still looking at the ground and cursing his decision to kiss back there.
"I'm sorry." He muttered and raised his gaze to meet Viktor's face. The German smiled sweetly and Liam's heart lost the weight of reproaches and fear immediately.
"You don't have to be. The kiss was sweet and I loved it. And yes, I'm pretty sure zhat they won't tell a thing," Liam smiled and as Viktor approached the chair he was sitting in, he caught his hand and caressed the back of paler palm with his thumb, "but we have to be way more careful, siehst du?" Liam frowned a little bit.
"I-I'm sorry but I didn't understand-"
"I asked you if you got it."
"Oh, right, yes I got it. Viktor smiled and seated himself on Liam's lap, facing the marksman.
"Are you allright?" He asked, concern filling his voice. Liam just hugged him shortly and nodded.
"I love you." He muttered and felt Viktor's fingers in his hair.
"I know, I love you too," He looked out of the window at the sky that was getting dark, "night's coming. Maybe you should go to your base for dinner." He said, but he didn't get up from Liam's lap. They changed one longing stare and then they kissed. Once, twice and then Viktor placed one little kiss on Liam's cheek.
"Yes, I should go." Liam said and Viktor got up and stepped aside a little awkwardly. The Aussie got up and before he finally left, he kissed Viktor goodbye. The doctor became alone again. He looked at the table with notes again and sighed. Well, it looks like I have to start packing. The room was filled with silence that Viktor liked, but it didn't remain for a very long time. There was a knock on his door.
