Chapter 12: Fishing & Fighting

*Bella*

I awoke the morning after my trip to the Cullens to hear dad downstairs. I quicky got out of bed and made my way down to see him. He was working when I got back last night.

"Morning, dad."

"Morning, Bells. How was your trip?"

"Great. Carlisle and Esme say hello. I missed you." I gave him a hug, which he happily returned.

"I missed you, too. What are you doing today?"

I sat at the table across from him. "You working?"

"Nope. Off for a few days."

"Then lets me and you go fishing? We havent been in awhile."

"Okay. That sounds great. We can leave in a few hours."

"Sound good. I'm going to shower then I'll come back and make us some lunch."

I made my way back upstairs and got in the shower. When finished washing up, I dried off and wrapped the towel around me. I listened to make sure dad was still downstairs before I went to my room. I slipped into my underware and bra before slipping into my burmuda shorts, tank top and boots. I pulled my hair into a ponytail then went back down to fix lunch.

"Dad, do we have a cooler or something to put this all in?"

"Yeah. I got one out back. I'll get it."

I fumbled around the fridge until I found the sandwich meat, trimmings and fruits and veggies. I made us each two sandwiches a piece, then put some grapes, apple slices, carrots and celery into containers. I made sure to grab dad's beer and me some water before I loaded it all into the cooler with some ice.

"Everything ready?" Dad asked doorway.

"Yeah. All set. Let's go." I carried to cooler to the old truck dad bought fom Billy and then climbed in the passenger side.

We took off towards the lake. Dad and I sat in a comfortable silence for most of the ride. I could feel him looking over at me sometimes. I learned just how much I missed him when I left those years ago with mom.

"Here we are. Let me get the gear and I'll come help you down the hill."

"Okay." I stood by the truck waiting, taking in the sights and smells around me. Call me crazy, but the smell of the lake water mixed with the smell of pine trees was intoxicating to me. I could live in this, surrounded by so much nature.

"Okay. Be careful now. There are a few roots in the path. Just hold on to me." Dad took my hand and arm and led me down the hill. Wasn't too bad. At the bottom, dad had set us up a spot to sit and fish.

"Can you bait me up?" I asked as I sat down in my chair.

"Sure."

A few minutes later he handed me my pole, which was already casted for me. I sat back and waited for the tug of a fish.

"So, how was your weekend with the Cullens?"

"Great. Esme cooked for me everyday, Jasper and I play fought, he was intrigued by my skills from being trained. We went hiking and camping. It was nice."

"Well that good, kid. I knew you would like them. Where is Emmett today?"

As if on cue, my phone rang, letting me know it was Emmett. I pressed the button on my earpiece to answer.

"Speak of the devil. Hey, Em."

"Hey, Bells. What you doin?"

"Fishing with dad today. You?"

"Taking care of some yardwork around here. What you doing tonight?"

"From the sound of dad, frying fish. Want to join us?"

"Sure. Want me to bring anything?"

"Whatever you want. Oh! Hold on."

I felt the line of my pole tugging. I quickly reeled it in, fighting hard to keep whatever it was on the line. Finally I got it where dad could get it with the line.

"Whoa! Bells, you got a whopper. A good eight pounder."

"Seriously? Damn, I'd love to see that one."

"Hold on and I'll get dad to take a picture. Dad, can you take a picture of me holding it? Em wants to see."

"Sure kid. How do I take one?"

"The button on the left side." I held up the fish beside me and smiled.

"Got it."

"Send picture to Emmett. Okay, you should be getting it soon."

"Got it now. Holy cow. Good catch. Well, I'll see you later. Tell Charlie I'll come help him clean them when you get back."

"Okay. See you later." Emmett hung up. "Em said he would come help you clean these when we get back."

"Sounds good."

Dad and I continued to fish for a few more hours, taking a break for lunch. I couldn't help but smile at our bonding time that I missed.

"What has you smiling, kid?"

"This. Us doing this together. I missed spending time with you growing up. There are just some things a girl needs to learn from her dad as she grows up that a mom just can't teach. I'm just happy I'm back here. To be able to have these moments with you."

"Me, too, Bells. I missed my little girl. You never wanted to do girly things. Always wanted to be with me, made your mom so mad sometimes." He laughed. "I'm glad you're back, too."

"So, how many have we caught so far?" I asked.

"Between us, I'd say we've got enough to last us a few months to eat on."

"Good. Let's head back home and get these cleaned." I stood and packed up the lunch while dad packed the gear. "Call Emmett."

After a few rings, he picked up. "Hello?"

"Hey. We are packing up. You still going to help dad?"

"Yeah. I'll stop by the store then I'll be there."

"Okay. See you in a bit."

"Alright, truck is packed. Let's get you back up the hill." Dad said as he took my hand. He lead me back to the truck and helped me in. Our ride home consisted of singing to the country oldies and laughing.

*Emmett*

I hung up the phone and grabbed my keys. I couldn't wait to see Bella again. When I opened the door to leave, I frose.

"Hello, Emmett."

"Rosalie? What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you, of course." She smiled sweetly at me.

"Where is Garin?"

"He is gone. Ran off with someone. Apparently he glamoured me. So I came back. I've missed you."

"Sorry, but I have plans with my girlfriend and her dad. As much as I'd love to rub it in your face about how it serves you right, I'm not. Excuse me." I pushed past her to get in the Jeep.

"Girlfriend?" Her voice raised in question.

"Yes, girlfriend. I moved on. Found a girl who is like me, loves to do the things I do. Someone who isn't self centered and vain. Sorry, Rosalie. You can't come back and sweet talk your way in." I climbed in and drove off, leaving Rosalie staring.

I don't know why she thought she could weasle her way back in. Maybe because she had done it so many times before, and I let her. Not this time. I knew my true calling. It was to Bella. She was my mate. I love her. Yes, after seven months, I loved Bella. One day, she would be mine forever, but for now, I would be happy being by her side until that day.

I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize I had made it to the Swan house. I shut off the Jeep and walked around back. There I saw Charlie at the far end at a table and Bella sitting on the steps.

"Hey, Bella. Hey, Charlie."

"Hey, Em. How are you?" Bella asked, turning her head towards my voice.

"I'm good. You?" I gave her a kiss on the lips before I stood in front of her.

"Great."

"So, Charlie. What do you want me to do?" I asked as I walked over, rubbing my hands together.

"Start de-scaling them and throw them in the water to clean off."

"You got it." I did as Charlie said and began scraping the scales off.

The phone began ringing from inside. Bella went in to answer it. I could hear the conversation from where I was.

"Hello?"

"Bella?"

"Mom?"

"Hey, sweetheart. How are you?"

"I'm doing great here with dad. Why have you called?"

"I miss you. Phil and I have split. I heard about your accident. I'm sorry you lost your eyes."

"I didn't lose my eyes. I lost my sight. Big difference. If this is about wanting me to come back home with you, you can forget it. I'm happy here with dad. We are finally getting all those years back we missed. I have built a life here with him. And my Emmett is here, I'm not leaving him."

"But, Bella. I need you."

"You need me? Of course you do! You can't function without someone taking care of you and your finances. Sorry, mom, but I can't. I've finally learned to care for myself being blind. I can't and I won't take care of you just so you can go out and party. Face it, mom. You're not twenty anymore. You need to grow up and learn to take care of yourself. I done it long enough. Time for me now."

"Bella. That is no way to talk to me. You ungrateful child."

"I'm not a child. You are. Ive got to go. Dad and Emmett are getting ready to cook."

I heard the click of the phone being hung up and seen Bella come back outside.

"Who was that, Bells?" Charlie asked.

"Renee."

"What did she want?"

"What do you think? Me to come home to her and take care of her. Told her I have a life here with you and its time for me to take care of myself."

"That Renee. Still thinking she's young. Guess Phil wised up. You okay?"

"Yeah, dad, I'm great." She smiled at her dad.

"Good. Now it's time to gut and filet these fish. Know how to do that?"

"I can gut them, I'll leave the fileting to you."

Charlie and I finished up the fish in no time. After they were done, we bagged up most of it, put it in the freezer and prepared for frying the rest.

"Emmett, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, Chief."

"I've been thinking, could Carlisle do something to bring Bella's sight back?"

"I don't know." His question shocked me.

"It's not that I don't love her as she s, I do. I just thought she would like to see my face again, and see you for the first time."

"Have you talked to her about it?"

He shook his head. "I don't know how to go about it."

"Well, how about we talk to her tonight about it?"

He nodded in agreement. We finished cooking and sat around the patio table, makinh small talk. Charlie kept looking at me for the right time. I mouthed to him after dinner.

"So, you two have been unusually quiet. What's goin on?" Bella asked as she sat back down from putting things away in the kitchen.

"Bells, if you could see again, how would you feel?" Charlie started.

"Well, I would love that. To be able to see your faces, the scenery, but there is no chance of repairing the damage. Its too deep."

"What if I told you my dad could maybe help?" I reached for her hand.

She pulled away from me. "What is this? Do you not like having to help me? I have managed to be able to live the rest of my life blind. Can you both not accept that?"

"Bells, you know I love you, wether you be blind or not. You're my daughter. I just thought you would be happy to maybe have a chance at seeing again."

"It has been almost a year since the accident. I have made my choice of going on as if it hasnt affected me. If you two can't accept that, then Ill find my own way."

She got up to go inside when I stopped her. "Bella."

"No Emmett! Leave me alone! I thought you didn't care about my sight. Here you are hounding me about seeing again. Just leave me alone." She pushed me away and stormed in the house.

Charlie came behind me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Give her some time. She'll come around. I think we threw it at her to fast."

"Yeah. Maybe. I'll go now. I'll try calling later. See you later, Charlie."

"Bye, Emmett. Don't worry. She's just like me. She is mad now, in a few hours she will be calmed down."

I nodded before I walked of the porch and to my Jeep. Well, we had our first fight I guess you could say. I hoped Charlie was right. I couldn't live with Bella being mad at me.

As I pulled out of the driveway, I could have swore I seen a flash of blonde run away. Rosalie better not have followed me. I know what she could do. I rushed back home to find her.
