Chapter 17: Weapon of Mass Destruction

"Are you sure Lu-chan?"

"Yes Levy-chan, I'm sure…"

"But... this is important to you."

"This is his fire, his last reminder of his existence"

Two weeks had passed since the attacked on the southern villages. Cities and kingdom was fortified to build and surround themselves in large walls, people scampered to build shelters underground but as soon as the earthquakes struck, their lives were splattered to pieces. Soldiers were dispensed and like moths fluttering on fire, their lives were easily burned down. And up until now, no one heard what happened to Ezra's team.

Like a great threat, Acnologia has been giving terror to the land of Fiore. Destroying villages and cities then fleeing to the night like a shadow. As the celestial spirit of the Southern Cross, also known as Crux, prophesized, the dragon king will only just need a week to fully gather its strength, and then it will spike the capital.

"How is the Core Lissana?" Mira shifted a levitating console up in the air to check the system that's been holding the massive Fire Lacrima at the center of the room.

"We can extract one more round Mira-nee. I'm just waiting for Levy-san to start up the Eternano System, since the vessel is draining too rapidly" Lissana responded adding codes to the Lacrima machines. Mira nodded her head and looked at the Core that stood like a gigantic sun in the center of the room, emitting flares and warm heat to the area.

"I can't believe that miniscule fire essence from the past Pinky can make this massive power" said Gray as he entered the room. "And man… turn on the AC Mira, its hot in here" he said while slowly removing his shirt.

Mira giggled and turned to look at the man behind her. "It's not that hot Gray, it's your body that has a problem" she jokingly said, she opened up a new window on her display projection to check what's happening at the other departments.

"Me too… I can't believe that we achieved this much over a little span of time. It's a major breakthrough" she happily said while she shifted the angle on the monitor.

Gray waved at Lissana who was busily talking with the other technicians of the department. "Well Mira, we have to" he walked and joined her at her side. "People are dying… stupid butt-shaped dragon" he grumbled. He looked at one of the displays monitor that oversee the defense research department. Zooming it at the center, he saw a familiar mane of pink that can only be seen in one particular person. Why is flame-brain doing in there?

Curious by the sudden silence, Mira approached and looked at display Gray is looking at. She chuckled at the sight "Ah, those lovebirds are doing it again huh?" she said dreamily.

"More of Natsu annoying Lucy, if you ask me" Gray snorted. Mira swayed her head at the side and return at her projective display, "Well… they are cute together. If only Lucy wouldn't be so shy about it. They are a perfect couple."

Gray sighed "They were a couple long before, well the past idiot that is. I don't think Lucy is shy, she just seems so distant, and it's more of dismissing the fact that the doofus is smitten by her."

Mira lowered her head and exhaled "Yeah, you're right. She's hiding something from us and it's kinda sad. We treat each other like a family and we are all great friends now. I don't understand" she whimpered.

"Let's just see what will happen and I trust Natsu will take care of her if something bad occur. We will all take care of her" Gray put his hand on Mira's shoulder and smiled at her.

Mira looked at Gray sweetly "Yeah, you're right. Thank you".

"FLIRTING WITH MY SISTER IS NOT A MAN!" a brash voice yelled.

"Elfman!" Mira laughed while Gray immediately withdrew his hand. Mira looked apologetically at Gray "Don't worry, I won't tell Juvia about this" she winked.

"MIRA WTF!" Gray flushed wildly. Mira giggled at turned on one of the speaker.

"Testing! Guys?" She said at the microphone whist looking at the projective monitor. The camera angle shifted, and they were now looking closed-up face of Natsu and Happy.

"Hi Mira!" they happily said. Mira smiled and was about to say something when she got interrupted by Gray.

"Oi, pinky! Quite bothering Lucy and move ur slimy butt at the training hall" he screamed, "Dude I've been looking for you everywhere" he roared.

Happy got terrified and immediately flew away crying out Lucy's name while Natsu grunted and stick out his tongue at the monitor. "Tsk, it's boring there. You guys are so weak."

"Why you-!" Gray started but was stopped by Mira's hand on his face. "Hi Natsu" she smiled "Where is Levy?" she asked.

"Hmmmm... be right back." Natsu walked away and yelled "OI LEVY! Mira wants to talk to you."

"Oi stupid!" Gray removed Mira's hand on his face "I'm not done with you! Come back here!" he yelled at the screen. "Bye Mira" he quickly said and then he ran towards the door outside.

Mira face-palmed and sighed loudly.

"Hi Mira-san" a cute cheerful voice said. Mira quickly composed herself and waved at the bluenette at the screen. "Hi Levy! The core's magic is depleting rapidly. We need to fire the Eternano System to extract more magic essence for the lacrimas." She said.

"Copy that! I'll activate it at here and ask Lissana to connect me to the main server. Once I'm connected I'll call you again to begin extraction." Levy replied.

Mira smiled and thanked the girl, "Uh, by the way how is the research coming?" Mira asked once more.

Levy squealed happily. "It's going wonderful. Ever since we configure the lacrminas to the amount of magic in the atmosphere, we can now use the magical equipments marvelously like the people of Edolas." She smiled widely. "Like right now, I'm using Lu-chan's gale force glasses infused with our adjusted lacrima and it work wonders! Lu-chan and I have been reading and researching like crazy and-"

Mira laughed loudly, it's been so long since she saw Levy chatted like this so excitedly, unlike the past few months that was full of headaches and pain.

"Oh sorry Mira-san" Levy said sheepishly. "I guess that's not what you wanted to hear" she blushed.

"No it's fine." She giggled. "But how is… you know…" she said quietly.

Levy nodded and turned serious, "A vast amount of books had been stored away in Lu-chan's house in Tenroujima. Lucy and I found some old books. She believed that it was once owned by the magic council because of the crest hidden inside. The other scholars are now searching for evidences and links in the old archives. Freed has been busy deciphering the rune combination of the magic circle. Lucy has been talking to her spirits for ideas and codes" she cited monotony.

"Just a little more Mira… and we will begin the nation-destroying magic. Project ETHERION."

"My King" Gildarts bowed his head as he approached the king of Fiore as he survey the map of Fiore in front of him.

"The final preparation has been made. We will dispense the weapons on the surrounding cities for final wave of attack. Also, we been informed that-"

"How many cities have we lost Gildarts" the King interrupted. "How many innocent lives have been killed and still how many people are suffering?" he said vile deadliness.

"Even the other continents wouldn't head to our call" the king sighed. "Can't they understand that if we fail… they will be the next?" the King moved and planted a knife at the center of large vast field in the map. "I want to know where the Beast resides, if not I want you to attract it at this field." He said droving the knife deep within the wooden table. "I don't want that creature to set foot at the capitol, this is enough! And we will end this once and for all" he turned around and look at Gildarts dead in the eyes.

"Make heed Gildarts! We wouldn't wait for that demon to get stronger. We will kill it at its weakest! In 5 days time. We will launch Project Etherion."

"..."

"...Yes my King"

Sorry i didnt write to you for the past week. It's been so busy lately. I think my head is gonna burst!

But you know? I'm having fun, it's like nothing has changed. You guys are still the same.

It's just that... sometimes I will tell a story about the time when we do some stuff and immediately looked stupid because they don't remember any of those.

Kinda sad, it's like I'm making things out...

I still cry you know...

I still craved your warmth

Your hug

Your smell

Your toothy smile

It's not the same Natsu

It's not...

But don't worry, we will see each other again next time...

Core/ Fire Lacrima- A magic crystalline substance that Leading Team aka Fairy Tail created from the Fire essence of the Fire Dragon Slayer, Natsu Dragneel. It serves as the core element for the small lacrima infused weapons that the kingdom has been producing for attacking and defense purposes. The core has been describe as a Sun because of its color, shape and heat. It's as big as a house and has a magic defense system that protects it from outside attacks.

Eternano System- A machine design to gather eternano (magic particles) at the atmosphere. It is used to restore the Magical Core power.

Etherion- A powerful magic weapon owned by the magic council on Lucy's time. It had been called the Nation-destroying magic because it can completely obliterates the target area, leaving only dust behind.
