Dexter's mom's name is Amber and she is 35 years old. She is 6 feet 2 inches tall.
David is an 18-year-old Mexican American high school senior who stands at 6.5 feet tall. He is the main character of the story and is a local drug dealer.
Dexter is a 16-year-old high school senior who stands at 5 feet 8 inches tall.
On Thursday, David trudged to his last class of the day, having already received a tardy slip from the front office. He had little interest in school, but he kept going for the sake of his friends and to pass the time.
Damm, David thought while getting closer to his class in forensic science, I could be making some money right now instead of being here.
"Finally decided to show up, eh?" Ms. Rose said while David put his tardy slip in the tardy box and took off his hat. He then walked to his seat next to his friend Armando, knowing the drill all too well.
Armando is an 18-year-old Mexican American, standing at 6'3 ft tall, who is always laidback and calm. He doesn't care if he comes to school or skips it. He is currently a senior in high school.
Hey, for a moment there I didn't think you were coming," Armando said while doing there hand shake with David's hand.
"Nahh," David said, taking a seat, "I just feel like I'm running late today."
Armando said, "Have you heard that Jose is already making his move on the new girl?"
"Nah," David said as he pulled his journal out, "but I was wondering when anyone from his crew was going to make a move."
Armando said, taking his pencil out and opening his journal, "That's what I was thinking about."
Ms. Rosa said while getting in front of the class, "If y'all can be quiet for a few minutes, I can explain the assignment for today."
Today's assignment, and for the rest of the week, is to work on a group project with one other person, as instructed by Ms. Rosa.
Do we get to pick our own partner when someone asks?
Sadly, no, Ms. Rosa said, her voice heavy with emotion.
Why did someone else ask?
Because last time I assigned a group project, less than half of the class turned it in, and some groups had too many people, Ms. Rosa said with disappointment and frustration.
As Ms. Rosa continued to explain the project, David and Armando paid no attention whatsoever, not even attempting to fake interest.
"You going to need any help later today?" Armando whisper.
"Yeah, do you need me to pick you up or are you coming?" David whispered.
"Nah, I'll need a ride," Armando whispered back.
Ight David whisper
"And last two teams are David with Dexter and Armando with Liz," Ms. Rosa said with a smile, as she watched the students eagerly search for their partners.
David and Armando just looked up in confusion, not knowing why their names had been called out. Their hearts raced with anticipation, wondering what was in store for them.
David asked, "Do you know what she was talking about?"
"Nah, I thought you were listening," Armando said with a sigh.
David said "Well, we're screwed," with a wry smile.
"You got an okay partner," Liz's friends said with a hint of disappointment as they were not partner together and were in the other side of the classroom from David and Armando's table.
"He better be," Liz said with a hint of worry in her voice, "I can't risk falling this class or else my mom won't let me buy clothes."
"It could have been worse," the same friends said, adding words of encouragement and comfort.
"Yeah, you're right," Liz said, standing up and walking over to David and Armando's table with a smile on her face.
Liz is an A plus student, a smart and cute 18 year old girl who stands at 6 feet tall. She is a white American senior who is full of ambition and enthusiasm.
Liz walked over to David and Armando's table and saw that they were both engaged in an animated conversation, laughing and smiling as they talked.
She cleared her throat nervously, They both raised their heads, their eyes filled with curiosity and confusion. She could feel her cheeks flush as she tried to find the right words to say. Taking a deep breath, she finally spoke.
"Do y'all by any chance know what we're doing?" Liz asked, but they both shook their heads in unison. Liz wanted to laugh, but she managed to keep her composure.
Liz went and demonstrated what they were doing and why they had partnered up together, exemplifying the process.
David asked standing up, "So I got Dexter as my partner?"
"Yea and good luck, homie," Armando said, shaking his hand and giving him an encouraging smile. Liz grabbed David's chair and took a seat, her face radiating with hope and support.
Dexter had his own table in the back of the classroom, seemingly uninterested in what the teacher was teaching. He was always doing his own thing, but somehow he managed to pass the class with flying colors.
David was strolling towards Dexter's table when he noticed the boy writing something in his journal. He was taken aback by how much Dexter had grown in the past two years. As usual, Dexter was the silent type, rarely engaging in conversations with anyone other than David, and when he did, it was usually about science.
David tapped on the table vigorously to get Dexter's attention, and it worked as Dexter immediately glanced up at him with curiosity.
"I take it you didn't pay attention to Ms. Rosa's introduction," David said, taking the seat next to Dexter.
Dexter abruptly jerked his head to the side in surprise.
David sighed, "Well, we have to partner up together and come up with a crime scene that makes sense and is multiple pages long. After we're done, we'll trade with another team and figure out their crime scene." He then put a piece of paper in front of Dexter that had more information about the crime scene they were creating.
Dexter fixed his glasses that were falling and asked, "I see well, how long do we have?"
"In one week it due next Friday" David said
"Well, we don't have to rush to do it today; we still have plenty of time," Dexter said, returning to his journal.
David said, "You're right, so if you have any paper, just take it out and write your name on it," as Dexter took out a piece of paper.
After 15 minutes of silence had elapsed, Dexter decided to break the quiet and start a conversation again.
"By any chance do you know why we were paired up together?" Dexter asked, his pen hovering over the page of his journal as he awaited an answer. His eyes were filled with curiosity.
David said not looking away from his phone, "Probably because you have the best grades and I have the worst."
"That makes sense," Dexter said, his eyes never leaving his journal as he spoke. His voice was filled with understanding.
Liz asked, looking at Dexter writing in his journal and David tapping away on his phone, "Do you think they will actually get anything done?" Her voice was tinged with skepticism and a hint of disappointment.
"Probably not," Armando said, writing something on the piece of paper, "but David always comes up with something."
"Okay now we need one more creative idea and then we can start," Liz said, checking the ideas they had written down for their crime scene.
After 20 minutes of hard work, Armando put his pencil down with a sense of accomplishment and was about to go and wake David up.
"Hey can I get your phone number?" Liz asked with a hopeful smile.
"Why," Armando asked with a mischievous smile, "so you can take me out on a date, or maybe something a bit more intimate?"
"Nooo, nothing like that," Liz said, trying to control her blush. "I just needed it so I can contact you about the project."
David was jolted awake by a massage appointment notification he had received.
"I can probably do everything in a day or two," Dexter said with a hopeful expression, "but I'm going to need your help writing something just so Ms. Rosas doesn't notice."
"So, how do you want to do this then?" David asked, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
"Let's exchange phone numbers so I can reach out to you when I might need your assistance," Dexter said eagerly.
Dexter and David jotted down their phone number on the same piece of paper, and then transferred it to their respective phones for safekeeping.
David said, "Let me send you a message," to Dexter.
"Okay," Dexter said, getting the message, "but I never got your name."
"Oh might bad it's David and see y'all around dexter" David said standing up and going to Armando.
"What's up, foo? Ready to go?" David said, shaking hands with Armando.
"Yeah, I'll meet you at my house in an hour," Armando said excitedly as the bell rang. They both walked outside to their trucks and then parted ways.
David was grooving to the infectious rhythms of Calibre50's cumbia reggae when he suddenly received a message from one of his buyers, inquiring about purchasing some weed.
When David arrived home, he was greeted by the sight of his two sisters sitting on the couch, watching TV and laughing, while their mom busied herself in the kitchen preparing dinner.
Hey mijo David, how was your day? Mom asked with love and concern.
"It's okay as always," David said, grabbing a chair and sitting down, "but how was your day, Mom?"
"It was okay, same as always, but a little more fun than usual," David's mom said as she went back to the kitchen.
"How that's" David ask
David's mom said with a smile, "Well, it looks like Gloria and Alex have finally admitted their true feelings for one another!"
"Brother here!" David's little sister exclaimed, running to him with a beaming smile on her face. David eagerly scooped her up in his arms, feeling a swell of love and joy in his heart.
"Hola princesa," David said with a smile, planting a gentle kiss on her left cheek and making her giggle with delight.
"Mija, it's time to eat!" David's mom said with a warm smile, her eyes twinkling with anticipation as she made her way to the table with the delicious food.
"Okay, coming Mama," David's other sister said with a smile.
They joyfully ate and took turns talking about their day, sharing stories and making lighthearted jokes.
David's mom said while draining the plates, "You know, mijo, you don't have to help me; I can do it by myself."
"Yeah you could, but that's going to make me look like a bad son," David said with a hint of amusement in his voice as he washed the remaining plates.
"Do you have any plans later today, mijo?" David's mom asked.
"Nah just me and Armando going to hangout," David said with a smile, finishing the plates.
"Okay just be careful mijo"Davids mom said draining her hands.
David said, "I will, Mama," and kissed her on the cheek before quickly going to his sisters and giving them each a loving kiss on their heads.
"Bye hermano," both sisters said, not looking away from the TV.
When he stepped outside, he received a message from Armando.
Your on the way" Armando message.
"Yeah, I'll be there in a few minutes," David replied as he hopped into his truck and drove off to Armando's house.
When he arrived at Armando's house, he noticed Armando sitting on the porch, engrossed in his phone.
"Hey, are you getting in or do I need to go get a chocolate bar?" David said with a smile.
"That was very, very funny," Armando said, standing up and walking to his truck before getting in.
Armando asked, "What is the first stop?" with a hint of anticipation in his voice.
"Good old man Tucker," David said with a hint of admiration in his voice as he drove away from Armando's house, "we really need to resupply."
After driving for 10 minutes, they arrived at Old Man Tucker's house.
David said, "The money is in the glove compartment," as Armando opened the glove and saw an envelope containing the money inside.
David rapped his knuckles against the door a few times, while Armando stood behind him, gazing out at the street.
"Coming, coming, coming," Tucker said with a weary sigh as he trudged towards the door. "It seems like it's never-ending these days. I just can't seem to get any rest!"
"What do you all want?" Tucker said, barely opening the door. His eyes widened in surprise as he got a better view of the person. "Oh, come in," he said, his voice filled with warmth and welcome.
They both walked in and settled down on the cozy couch.
"So I take it y'all here for resupply" tucker said sitting down on his sofa chair.
"Yeah, same amount as always," David said, getting the envelope from Armando and passing it to Tucker.
Tucker eagerly opened the envelope and counted the money, his eyes widening in delight at the amount.
"All 1000 dollars are in their rightful place," Armando said with a sense of relief.
"I understand," Tucker said, his voice tinged with caution. "But I have to make sure there are no hidden microphones around. Can't be too careful, you know."
"Amen to that!" David said with a beaming smile.
"Stay put right here while I go grab the delicious pie," Tucker said with a beaming smile.
A few minutes passed before David noticed Armando laughing at something on his phone. His face lit up with joy and amusement.
"What got you laughing over there?" David asked with a hint of curiosity in his voice.
"Nah nothing," Armando said nonchalantly, not looking away from his phone, "just messing with Liz."
"You going try and hit that" David asked.
"Yeah, maybe I don't know yet," Armando said, chuckling with amusement.
"Well good luck, she won't be easy," David said to Armando, his voice tinged with a hint of sympathy as he watched Tucker walk back to them.
"Here you all have half as always," Tucker said with a warm smile, placing the Walmart shopping bag on the coffee table and then sitting down.
Thanks as always," David said, shaking hands with Tucker and giving him a smile.
"Before all of you, can I ask you something?" Tucker said, his eyes filled with anticipation.
David looked at Armando and then at Tucker with a hint of excitement in his eyes. "Yeah, go ahead!"
"Y'all two combined make what, 400-500 give or take, am I right?" Tucker asked excitedly.
"Yeah, something like that," David said
"Well how will y'all feel about making more" tucker said.
"What you mean" Armando said curious
"Well, how should I put it... I'm part of an organization that is shrouded in mystery, a secret society that nobody knows exists," Tucker said, his voice tinged with excitement.
Armando asked, "What kind of organization is that?" with a hint of curiosity in his voice.
"I am a proud member of the Cartel of the Darkness," Tucker declared with a triumphant smile.
"Never heard of them before," Armando said with a hint of surprise in his voice.
"That exactly that point we don't exist in the public eye" tucker said.
"So why are you inviting us why" David ask curious.
"Well," Tucker said, standing up and pointing out his right hand, "the cartel is always in need of sealers, and I know y'all are struggling to maintain a family and also proven both of y'all can keep a secrets. So, do you wanna join?"
David and Armando exchanged a knowing glance, their faces filled with a sense of understanding and mutual respect.
"We will join," David said, his eyes twinkling with excitement as he checked hands with Tucker, and then Armando doing the same.
"Come back on Sunday at 6pm and I'll explain more," Tucker said with a hint of emotion in his voice. "But for now, I've got some things I need to take care of. See y'all around!"
"Ight will catch you later man" David said opening the door and Armando following him behind.
They walked to the truck without saying a word and left after few minutes of driving
"Do you think we're ready for this?" Armando asked, his voice tinged with anticipation.
"Yeah, I do," David said, his voice tinged with frustration. "We're barely making a living with the money we get. It's time to get bigger; we know how the game works."
"If you think we can do it am behind you 100 percent" Armando said
David drove to the abandoned warehouse that they had discovered a year ago when they were skipping school. They were searching for a place they could call their own, a hideout. From the outside, it appeared to be deserted, but the inside was surprisingly tidy. The warehouse was for sale, but they had taken down the sign so that no one would try to purchase it. It was also situated in a part of town where nobody paid attention to what was going on.
Once they stepped inside the warehouse, they found a small, wooden table surrounded by a few comfortable chairs. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement.
Armando asked, his voice tinged with excitement, "So how many today?" as he pulled out the half-pound of weed from the Walmart bag.
David grabbed some small ziploc bags while saying, "We need to make 10 deliveries, 3 of them in person and the rest should be drop offs." His voice was filled with determination.
Armando asked, "Who are the three luckiest people?" as he brought a scale with him, his face full of anticipation.
"James from math class Toby from reading and Cortez from history" David said measuring weed.
"Which Cortez?" Armando ask
"The one with short hair and always wearing blue hoodie" david said.
"Still doesn't ring a bell," Armando said, shaking his head in confusion.
"The one that painted his air force" David said with smile.
"Oh that one, I still can't believe he painted his Air Force Ones," Armando said with a chuckle.
"You ever got to see what happen when it had rain" David said laughing
"Nah but heard the paint just came off like water," Armando said with a broad smile, his eyes twinkling with delight.
They continued to meticulously sort and package the marijuana into its designated bags, taking their time to ensure that everything was perfect. Despite the tediousness of the task, they persevered with a sense of determination and enthusiasm.
David asked, "What time is it?" Pointing away the rest of the weed behind a lost brick and then quickly covering it up with a bag.
"Just around 6" Armando said
"Ight we still have time" David said walking out to his truck while Armando walk behind him
Armando asked with excitement, "Who are we going to see first?" as they climbed into the truck and fastened their seatbelts.
"Cortez and then we doing some drop off" David said turning on the engine and driving off.
After driving for a while, they finally arrived at their first destination. As they pulled up, they noticed Cortez sitting on a bench, looking a bit weary and exhausted.
"Heey Cortez" David scream Cortez saw David and started to walk his truck.
"Wazz up man" Cortez said shaking hands with David and then with Armando
"Here your copy of avengers back thanks for letting me borrow it" armado said given him the movies.
"Thanks a lot, man," Cortez said, his face beaming with gratitude. "I'll definitely hit y'all up if I ever need to borrow a movie." With that, he waved goodbye and David drove off to their next destination.
After a few hours of driving around the city and delivering the packages, David and Armando were finally finished. Afterward, David dropped Armando off at his house and then drove to his own home, feeling relieved and exhausted from the long day.
When he arrived, he saw that almost all the lights were off. He checked his phone for the time and saw that it was 10:30 pm.
When he got inside the house, he saw his mom watching the tv on the couch with a contented expression on her face. He closed the door behind him and then went to the kitchen to grab a jar that was on top of the fridges. He put the earnings he got today into the jar, but kept a few dollars for his truck's gas.
The hard-earned money that was placed into the jar was intended for emergency situations or to help cover the bills.
"So how was it today?" his mom asked as he put the jar back where it belonged. Her voice was full of concern and anticipation.
"It was okay," David said with a smile, "and I'm feeling fine, Mom."
He gave her a warm, loving hug with a gentle kiss on her forehead and saw his beloved sister walking towards them with a smile on her face.
David asked, "Shouldn't you be in bed already?"
"I was but Lisa ask for mom to read her a story" his sister said
"Are you sure it was her that wanted to hear a story read to them?" David asked with a beaming smile.
His mom said, reassuringly, "Tell her I'll be there in a moment."
"Why don't I read her the story and you go finish your show, Mom?" David said eagerly, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
"Are you sure?" his mom asked, her voice full of concern. He simply nodded his head
David follows his sister back to her room and saw his little sister on her bed with a book on her lap
"Hermano, you're back!" His little sister exclaimed with a huge grin, her eyes sparkling with joy.
After 15 minutes, he noticed that both of his sisters had fallen asleep. He switched off their lamp and quietly left the room. As he stepped into the living room, he saw that it was dark. He quickly changed into a pair of shorts and a blue T-shirt before heading to his own room. He felt a wave of relief wash over him as he finally had some peace and quiet.
When he snuggled into his cozy blanket, he set his alarm and quickly drifted off into a peaceful slumber.
