Chapter 17
I Want Your Lips
Much to her friends' relief, Sakuya has finally recovered from her fever.
That day, when Akashi told the class that Sakuya was having a fever, Takano was panicked. She, Yuzume, and Katagiri decided to visit Sakuya after school to check her up. They never thought Akashi would also come with them along with his basketball teammates; Mibuchi, Hayama, Nebuya (who got dragged by Hayama), and Mayuzumi. Of course, Sakuya was quite surprised to see a lot of people came to see her. However, she didn't mind it. The three girls helped Sakuya with her notes and chatted some random things, while the boys helped Sakuya cleaned her apartment since she couldn't do it because of her fever. Well, Akashi was the one who demanded them to do that. The redhead just sat near Sakuya and held her down whenever the girl wanted to give a hand to her upperclassmen. He also didn't allow her friends to help the boys, too. Sakuya could only preach Akashi for making his upperclassmen did the chores, even still called them informally. And just like usual, Akashi didn't mind her preaching at all. He enjoyed it.
Well, at least Akashi and Sakuya have reconciled, was the basketball team thought.
And the next day, Sakuya went back to school. Of course, Akashi still continues to fetch her up in the morning and they will walk to the school together. They talk, eat lunch together with their friends, study in the library, and so on. They continue their routine with each other. The different now is Sakuya goes straight home because she has done her role to replace Higuchi, while Akashi continues his basketball practice with his teammates like usual (and more hellish than before). Akashi sometimes asks Sakuya to be their official manager; which the girl refuses every time, or invites her to watch his team doing practices. The girl agrees with it, if she doesn't have something to do. When he is done, he will take Sakuya home after that.
The days have passed just like usual for them.
Until that day when Sakuya was being called by Midorima.
"You are going to celebrate Akashi-san's birthday?" Sakuya asked again to Midorima. It was Friday. She was on her way home when Midorima suddenly called her.
"It's not me. It's the others," Midorima replied grudgingly.
"The others?"
"…It was Momoi who told me," Midorima explained. "She asked the rest of us to celebrate Akashi's birthday."
"The rest of you? Oh, so that means…" Sakuya looked to her arm and raised her finger one by one; counting the people Midorima mentioned. "You, Momoi-san, Kuroko-san, Murasakibara-san, Kise-san, and Aomine-san will be there?"
Midorima hummed in reply. "I see. Then, why are you telling me this, Shintarou-kun?" Sakuya asked again.
There was a slight pause, until Midorima spoke out. "Momoi wants you to come along as well."
Sakuya blinked at that statement. "Um… but, why? I think I shouldn't be there, because it's your old friends from middle school, Shintarou-kun. I'm just like an outsider."
"I don't know. She keeps nagging at me to invite you out-" Midorima couldn't finish his words when Momoi suddenly barged in. "PLEASE JOIN US, SAKUYA-SAN! I'M BEGGING YOU!" her loud voice dominated the entire phone, almost making Sakuya's ear deaf.
"What are you doing?!" Midorima then took over the phone again. "Sorry about that, Sakuya," Midorima apologized.
"It is okay, Shintarou-kun. Is Momoi-san there with you?"
"Yeah, with the others." As Midorima said that, several voices Sakuya recognized can be heard in the background. The Generation of Miracles except Akashi and Murasakibara was there with Midorima. "Momoi has booked a table for Sunday. We will celebrate his birthday there."
"I see. His birthday is on Sunday, after all," Sakuya said, nodding to herself. "Wait for a while, Shintarou-kun."
"What's wrong?" Midorima's tone changed when the girl said that. He was worried something was happening to the girl.
Realizing his worried tone, Sakuya giggled. "It's nothing wrong, Shintarou-kun. I want to unlock my apartment's door," she said as she searched her keys in her coat pocket. In December, the winter's breeze is getting colder, that's why Sakuya wore her winter coat that day.
"O-oh… okay…" Midorima responded awkwardly. He then decided to wait for Sakuya to do her thing first.
Sakuya put her phone inside her other pocket. She then found her keys and unlocked the door. After going inside and close the door, she changed her shoes to her slippers and went to the living room. She put her bag on the couch and sat there as she took out her phone again to continue her talk with Midorima. "Shintarou-kun?" she called her childhood friend.
"Hm?" Midorima responded her.
"I think I can join with you all," Sakuya retorted, which earned a squeal from Momoi when Midorima told his ex-teammates she can go. "Then, could I know how will you celebrate Akashi-san's birthday?"
"About that, I think Momoi can explain it to you. I will give my phone to her and you can ask her about that," Midorima said as he gave his phone to Momoi. The pink-haired girl accepted it and greeted Sakuya from the other line. "Sakuya-san, I miss you!" she exclaimed happily.
Sakuya smiled at Momoi's reaction. "Good evening, Momoi-san. I miss you, too. How have you been?"
"I'm as good as ever! Oh, I've been told by Midorin that you wanted to know the details for the celebration?"
"Yes, please."
Momoi then started explaining. "It is going to be a surprise for Akashi-kun, so we must keep it a secret from him. Although, we don't know about it if it's Akashi-kun's case… He knows everything…" Momoi sighed. "Anyways! Someone will ask Akashi-kun to come with him and leads him to the restaurant, and we will surprise him. After that, everyone will eat my handmade cake and enjoy their dinner!" As Momoi said the 'eat my handmade cake' part, Sakuya could hear the boys' gasped faintly. However, she didn't bother about it.
"I see. So you're going to celebrate it around dinner time?"
"Right! Oh, but we need to bring Akashi-kun here without letting him know that we will be waiting for him…" Momoi then thought for a while. "Ki-chan will be discovered very soon. Aomine-kun is hopeless. Midorin, too. Mukkun will spill our plan if he is asked. Tetsu-kun can do it, but I don't know…" she sighed afterwards. "Akashi-kun already knows us too well. He will discover us very fast."
Noticing Momoi's distress, Sakuya decided to suggest a plan. Harlequin eyes closed for a moment; thinking for any possibilities. Fortunately, she found one. "Momoi-san, I can help you bringing Akashi-san to the appointed place," she stated monotonously, earning a gasp from Momoi.
"Really? How?"
"I apologize, but I must keep it a secret from you," Sakuya said while smiling. "Do not worry. I will definitely bring him there on Sunday without knowing you all will be there. Please just focus on your task."
Hearing the assurance in Sakuya's tone, Momoi can't help herself but wanted to hug Sakuya right now. But, they are in different place, so it can't be done. "Thank you, Sakuya-san! Do your best!" she motivated Sakuya with glee.
"I will. Could you tell me the address of the restaurant beforehand?" Sakuya asked, and Momoi gave her the restaurant's address. "Momoi-san. I heard that you will make the cake?"
Momoi grinned happily. "Yes! I'm going to make the birthday cake myself!" she exclaimed, and once again Sakuya heard the boys' gasps in the background. "Akashi-kun will like it! I'm sure of it!"
"I see. When will you make it?"
"Tomorrow! Oh, but I must buy the ingredients first, then I can make it!" Momoi then thought of something. "Sakuya-san, do you want to help me tomorrow?"
"A cake, hm?" Sakuya was in deep thoughts. She actually can cook well, but she never tries baking a cake before. She only cooks when she is hungry, and it's a simple dish. "I never do it before. If I follow the recipe, maybe I can help you out. Is it okay for you, Momoi-san?"
"It's okay! Then, tomorrow night, okay? I'll be waiting in my home!"
"Your home?"
"Don't worry! I know the trip from Kyoto to Tokyo takes about two hours by train. I will ask Midorin to wait for you at the station tomorrow and he will accompany you to my house. When we're finished, Midorin will send you back to the station again!" Momoi stated, earning a thoughtful look from Midorima. The greenhead didn't bother to counter if it involved Sakuya. Momoi glanced at Midorima who was being silent all the time. "Isn't that right, Midorin?" the pink-haired girl asked with beaming eyes.
Midorima's answer can be heard by Sakuya quite aloud. "That's fine for me."
"See? Midorin approved!" Momoi exclaimed. "How about that?"
"I guess if Shintarou-kun doesn't mind it, I will accept it," Sakuya replied.
"Alright! I'll see you tomorrow, Sakuya-san! I'll give back the phone to Midorin!" After Momoi bid her farewell to Sakuya, she gave back Midorima's phone to its owner. "Do you want to ask something again?" Midorima asked Sakuya when he took over the phone.
"I think that's enough. I can get a hang of it for tomorrow's plan," Sakuya stated firmly, making Midorima confused with the 'plan' part. But the man left it out and trusted Sakuya for her role in bringing Akashi to the restaurant on Sunday. "Then, I will visit Tokyo again tomorrow after school. I will be waiting for you at the station, Shintarou-kun."
"I know. Don't make me wait too long."
Sakuya giggled. "Pardon me if I will be late tomorrow, Shintarou-kun. And," Sakuya looked up to the clock, checking the time. "Good evening, Shintarou-kun. See you tomorrow."
"Good evening, Sakuya." Midorima ended the call after he pressed the button.
A yawn then heard. It was Aomine's. He is still wearing his Touo uniform. It seems he was being dragged by Momoi to gather with everyone else; who are also still in their school uniform. Murasakibara was not there, because he was in Akita. There's no way Momoi asked the purple giant to gather there just to discuss about Akashi's birthday surprise. At least, Murasakibara has promised Momoi that he would visit Tokyo tomorrow to help her with the cake. A taster, to be exact.
"So, our business is done?" Aomine asked lazily to Momoi, who scowled at the tanned-skin man. "Anyway, Satsuki, why do you want her to join?" he asked again, referring about Sakuya.
Momoi sighed. "Isn't it obvious?" she remarked, making everyone blinked. "Akashi-kun has recognized Sakuya-san as one of us, just like Kagamin. That's why I need to invite her out."
"I don't understand how, though…" Kise pouted. "Well, it's okay if we have another girl, right? It's weird if it's only Momoicchi the girl in our group later."
"That's also another point!" Momoi agreed with Kise. "That's why, don't complain, Ahomine. Don't forget, you must accompany me buying ingredients for the cake tomorrow!" she said as she pointed to Aomine, who growled in response.
"Is it okay if I and Kagami-kun accompany you, Momoi-san?" Kuroko offered himself with Kagami; who was not present because he was being called by his teacher after school, although Momoi already asked the tiger to come. The light-blue-haired man thought it would be safer if he and Kagami tagged along tomorrow, because he was afraid what Momoi will randomly buy in the grocery shop. With addition of Kagami, who knows how to cook, it will lessen the 'impacts' for the handmade cake.
Momoi's eyes beamed. "Of course, Tetsu-kun! I'll be glad if you come, too!"
"You're a lifesaver, Tetsu," Aomine muttered to himself so Momoi can't hear him. "But, why must Kagami come along?"
"Kagami-kun is an expert at cooking, Aomine-kun. He already saved us from our coach's dish. With him, he can lessen the future 'impacts' later," Kuroko replied, referring to the time when Kagami taught Riko how to make curry for the whole Seirin team.
Aomine studied Kuroko's words. "I guess if you say so, as long as I am still alive." He stood up from his seat. "Let's go, Satsuki," he said as he started to leave the group.
"Jeez, wait up!" Without much choice, Momoi rushed to Aomine before she was being left behind. She bid the others goodbye and left first with Aomine.
After the two were not around, Kise let out a sigh. "Akashicchi's birthday is the day after tomorrow, huh? It's been a long time since we celebrated his birthday."
"Indeed it is," Kuroko replied monotonously as ever.
"By the way, Midorimacchi," Kise called Midorima who still held his phone on his hand. "Does Urenomiyacchi cook?"
Midorima pushed up his glasses with his other hand. He glared to Kise. "Why do you want to know, Kise? And why do you call her with that name?"
"Whoa! Hold on, there! I already asked her if I could call her that, and she agreed to it!" Kise defended himself as he put up his arms to protect himself from Midorima's wrath. "And I want to know if she can cook so she can help Momoicchi with her cooking! You know her cooking skill is bad, Midorimacchi! You don't want Urenomiyacchi gets stomachache because of that, right?"
Although Midorima was pissed, Kise's words earlier were right. There's no way he wants Sakuya to taste Momoi's cooking, even just a little bit. He won't allow that. "I don't know much, but she sometimes cooked something if she was hungry. That was in the past, though."
"Have you tasted her cooking?"
"I have. She always offered me one when she did."
"Was it delicious?"
Midorima then recalled the time when he visited Sakuya's house and the girl made an omelet for the two of them. That time, her aunt was not at home yet, so she decided to make something to ease their hunger. "It was not that bad," Midorima replied.
"Then it's safe!" Kise exclaimed happily. He was glad Sakuya can help Momoi around later.
Kuroko nodded in approval. "I guess we can put our hopes up in Kagami-kun and Urenomiya-san, then."
They will be safe for tomorrow's nightmare. They are sure of it.
Sakuya was ready with her plan.
Ever since she decided to help Momoi bringing Akashi to the appointed place on Sunday night, Sakuya had planned her mission. She will execute it the next day after that phone call. She believes her plan will work out. She doesn't know why, but she has that kind of feeling.
Assurance.
Thus, after Akashi fetched her up just like usual in the morning and they have arrived at their class, Sakuya asked Akashi straight out.
"Akashi-san, are you free tomorrow night?"
The redhead glanced at Sakuya with his arched brows. He just sat on his seat and Sakuya approached him and asked him that. "My, what a surprise. Why do you want to know, Sakuya?"
Keeping her dignity, Sakuya answered monotonously. "Tomorrow is your birthday."
That one statement brought Akashi to his sense. Tomorrow is his birthday, December 20. The girl still remembers it. That fact makes Akashi can't help himself but smile. "Oh, right. Yes, it's tomorrow."
"I am going to invite you to the amusement park. It's located in Tokyo, and it has been recently opened," Sakuya continued on.
"Is that so?" Akashi mused. "Come to think of it, there is an amusement park there. How did you know about it?"
"My cousins told me about it," Sakuya replied, remembering the day when her little cousins called her and said something about a new amusement park in Tokyo. They are going to visit there when Sakuya stays in Tokyo in her winter holidays. "Well, I'm going to visit it when the winter holiday is up, but I thought maybe I could visit it with you. Since tomorrow is Sunday and also your birthday, it is a good chance to go there."
"I see," Akashi nodded to himself. "I have practice tomorrow morning, but I am free after that. I guess I can accept your offer, Sakuya."
Satisfied with his response, Sakuya clapped both of her hands and smiled brightly to Akashi. "Thank you very much, Akashi-san," she thanked him with her warm gaze. "You are going to enjoy your birthday tomorrow. I'm sure of it."
Akashi chuckled. "Of course," he said and he patted Sakuya's head. "Because I'm going to celebrate my birthday with you."
Sakuya blinked at his response. "Me?" She tilted her head in confusion.
The redhead nodded curtly. He slowly lowered his hand to caress Sakuya's cheek. "You don't know, Sakuya. How much I am in such a pleasant mood with your presence besides me." He then moved his hand to grab Sakuya's small hand. "Just knowing that you will be there with me it's enough for me."
Akashi stared at Sakuya's thoughtful eyes. Noticing the girl is trying to fathom his words, he smirked. "Do you need more details about this, Sakuya?" he offered.
Much to his surprise, Sakuya shook her head. The girl replied with her meaningful smile, leaving Akashi bewildered. She then spoke, "I understand," and put her other hand on Akashi's grip. "If my presence puts you at peace, I am not going to worry about tomorrow's outcome then."
Akashi raised his brow at that, but left it out. "How about the dinner, Sakuya?"
"The dinner?" Sakuya thought for a while. "Maybe we can eat at a nearby restaurant?" she asked, although she knows the said amusement park is close with the restaurant that will hold Akashi's surprise party later.
Thus, Akashi's answer was, "There is a nearby restaurant, indeed. I never visit it before, but why not give it a try tomorrow?"
"That is fine with me," Sakuya nodded. She released her hands from Akashi and leaned away from him. "I will wait for tomorrow, then," and she bowed slightly to Akashi. "Please excuse me."
Knowing where the girl would go, Akashi stood up and caught the girl's hand before she left. When Sakuya glanced at him, Akashi smirked and questioned, "Shall we?"
Without words, the two went to their usual spot in the morning; the library.
It is 5.30 p.m. As promised yesterday, Midorima waited patiently at the station, waiting for Sakuya's arrival from Kyoto. He has changed his uniform with his casual clothes and his grey coat, along with his dark green scarf. Beside him, Murasakibara was also waiting with Midorima. He just arrived from Akita thirty minutes ago, and met Midorima. When the greenhead told him that he was waiting for Sakuya, the purple giant decided to tag along, too.
Murasakibara opened his sixth bag of chips and took one into his mouth. After he swallowed the potato chip, he glanced to the people passing by. "Nomiya-chin is not here yet~" he retorted as he put his chips again inside his mouth.
"She should have arrived by now," Midorima said, looking to his watch. "Anyway, Murasakibara, why you are the one who arrived first?" he asked, since the trip from Akita to Tokyo takes approximately four hours by train; Murasakibara should be the one who will arrive late. But the purple-head was there now, munching his chips contentedly.
"My school is free on Saturday~" Murasakibara explained, which earned a grunt from Midorima.
"Then, what's with the bag?" Midorima asked again, eying the bag Murasakibara brought along with him.
"I'm going to stay over at Kuro-chin's house tonight."
"Kuroko's place?"
"Well, it's because it will be a hassle if I go back to Akita again tonight, so I'll do it tomorrow night after Aka-chin's celebration~"
Midorima thought for a moment. "It is such a rare thing that you stay at Kuroko's place, judging by your relationship with him," he said after fixing his glasses.
"Eh? But Kuro-chin agreed with it though…" While he was talking, Murasakibara then spotted Sakuya walking in the crowd, looking for her fetcher. Because he is very tall, Murasakibara stood up and waved at Sakuya's direction to gain her attention. "Nomiya-chin~" he called out a few times. Midorima also stood up, looking for Sakuya's whereabouts. The girl spotted Murasakibara was calling her and she rushed to his side.
"Good evening, Murasakibara-san," she greeted Murasakibara. "Shintarou-kun," she greeted Midorima next. "I apologize if I am late."
Midorima shook his head. "No, you're not."
Sakuya sighed in relief. "Speaking of which," she looked up to Murasakibara. "I never thought Musa-" but her words got cut off because her tongue was slipped. She pronounced Murasakibara's name wrongly. "I mean, I never thought I would see Murasakibara-san here, too."
Realizing her difficulty pronouncing his name, Murasakibara offered, "You can call me 'Atsushi' if my surname is difficult to say, Nomiya-chin."
Sakuya blinked. "Is it alright for you?" When Murasakibara nodded to her, Sakuya thanked him. "Then, Atsushi-san. It's nice to see you again."
"Should we go to Momoi's place now?" Midorima voiced out so suddenly. "We better go there quickly or things will get worse."
"I suppose so~" oblivious to the environment, Murasakibara agreed with Midorima. The greenhead took the lead, Sakuya walked beside him, while Murasakibara followed the two from behind after taking his bag and a plastic of chip bags.
"What did you mean by 'things will get worse', Shintarou-kun?" Sakuya asked Midorima along their way to Momoi's place. They are going to take the bus and walk to Momoi's place by foot.
"You will know later," Midorima replied.
Sakuya nodded in understanding. "You are wearing that scarf, Shintarou-kun," she stated as she stared to Midorima's dark green scarf; which is her birthday's gift to Midorima.
"Eh? What's with the scarf?" Murasakibara asked in bewilderment when he spotted Midorima's shoulders tensed when Sakuya mentioned it.
The greenhead ignored Murasakibara's question and glanced at Sakuya. "You still have that hairpin with you?" he asked, noticing Sakuya is wearing the butterfly hairpin he gave to Sakuya as her late birthday gift.
The brown-haired girl touched the hairpin and smiled afterwards. "Yes. This is my special thing from you, after all."
Hearing her honest remark, Midorima could only push up his glasses and walked faster. Sakuya giggled at Midorima's behavior, because she knows the greenhead was embarrassed. She then looked up to Murasakibara who seems still curious about the scarf. "The scarf is Shintarou-kun's birthday gift from me, Atsushi-san," she explained to the purple giant, who then realized something.
"So that's why Mido-chin was upset when his scarf was gone," he muttered under his breath, noticed by Sakuya. Feeling the need to explain more, Murasakibara added. "Mido-chin once lost his scarf when we were going to change after practice. He was very angry that time, even yelled at Aka-chin when Aka-chin said he could search for it tomorrow morning."
"Really?" Sakuya asked, didn't believe that Midorima would yell at Akashi just because of that. "Then, where did he find the scarf?"
"Aka-chin then ordered us to search around the school and wouldn't let us go home before we found it. We found it later, buried under the towels." Murasakibara ended his story and glanced to Sakuya. "I didn't understand why Mido-chin was enraged that time, but now I think I understand," he muttered.
"I see," Sakuya mused. "Shintarou-kun is indeed a kind man."
After arriving at Momoi's place, the pink-haired girl immediately greeted Sakuya with her bone-crushing hug. Kuroko, Kagami, Kise, and Aomine have gathered there, too, with the ingredients they have bought in the grocery shop. The group decided to split themselves into two; the chefs and the testers. The girls along with Kagami are the chefs, while the others are the tasters; waiting patiently for the worst nightmare ever.
"I think I understand what Shintarou-kun has meant," Sakuya thought as she watched Momoi wanted to crack the eggs, but ended up putting them into the bowl just like that. Kagami even snapped a few times when the pink-haired girl did more 'hazard' things. "Momoi-san is not very good with cooking…"
However, she must praise Momoi's effort for giving her best at making the cake. Well, should she?
"Follow the steps!" Kagami snapped again at Momoi. "What are you- Use the tea spoon, not that spatula!"
"But it says add three tea spoons of sugar!" Momoi countered back.
"That's not the tea spoon! You're using a spatula! Are you going to put that much sugar into it?!"
Kise can only laugh awkwardly. "I'm not very sure of this…" he muttered, earning a nod from the others. "I-is it going to be fine? I mean, let's not worry about Akashicchi first… Worry about our fate later…"
"I don't wanna know it," Aomine scoffed.
Feeling she can't take it anymore, Sakuya let out a long sigh and approached Momoi. "Momoi-san, let me and Kagami-san handle this," she offered politely.
"Eh? But I want to help!" Momoi exclaimed, earning a face-palm from Kagami.
"I understand. However, I apologize if I must say this, but," Sakuya looked straight into Momoi's pink eyes thoughtfully. "Your cooking skill dangers us, Momoi-san," she said bluntly, making the boys shocked. There is no one who dares to say that honestly to Momoi, even Akashi does not want to (because he thinks Momoi's cooking can be used as a training for the team).
Momoi's eyes widened when heard it. "D-danger?" she repeated Sakuya's word, earning a nod from the brown-haired girl. Momoi then laughed nervously. "You're joking, Sakuya-san! There's no way my cooking will danger anyone!"
"Is that so?" Sakuya smiled, and she gave an egg to Momoi. "Momoi-san, I suggest you to make a boiled egg to prove your cooking skill," she declared confidently with her expressionless face.
Mentally challenged, Momoi grinned. She took the egg and decided to prove her skill to Sakuya. "Don't worry! I'll show you!" she declared as she put the egg into the boiling water…
"That's not how you boil the egg…" Kagami stated when he watched Momoi cracked the egg into the boiling water rather than put it inside. The others sweated at that.
"Just how horrible her skill is?!" The Generation of Miracles shouted in their mind.
"I-it's wrong?" Momoi asked nervously. Noticing the pink-haired girl wanted to cry, Sakuya patted her head gently.
"Your way to boil the egg is indeed very unique, although it is not the normal standard," Sakuya complemented Momoi. "If you start studying from the base, I'm sure one day you will master cooking a boil egg, Momoi-san. That's why," Sakuya showed her serious look to Momoi and smiled meaningfully to her, making Momoi somehow astounded. "Please rest, Momoi-san. Let me and Kagami-san handle the cake."
Because Sakuya is similar to Kuroko, the way the girl showed her expression makes Momoi thought that Kuroko was assuring her gentlemanly. She flushed and nodded vigorously to Sakuya, and she immediately left the kitchen and joined the boys in the dining room. Kagami sweated at Momoi's reaction. Just because Sakuya has similar eyes like Kuroko's, the pink-haired girl melted just like that. Her wild love fantasy with Kuroko is unbearable, if he can complain. "Well, I guess… we will be fine?" Kagami asked Sakuya, who has reverted back to her blank look.
"Yes. Shall we continue?" And so, the two continued their activities in the kitchen.
Two hours later, they were back with small piece of cake for everyone in the living room. Kagami decided to bake some small cakes as testers from the leftovers. The main cake was still in the oven. Because the testers are small, Kagami just used microwave to bake them out. Sakuya and Kagami joined the Generation of Miracles after distributing the small cake to everyone.
"Since Satsuki is not involved in the cooking, I guess this will be fine," Aomine blurted out, ignoring Momoi's glare and shoved the cake into his mouth. "Oh, not bad."
"This is delicious!" Kise exclaimed happily. Kuroko nodded in approval.
"It's sweet~" Murasakibara bit the cake contentedly. "Can I have more?" he asked pleadingly to Kagami and Sakuya.
"We only made seven so you all can taste it," Kagami replied. He then received a bite from Kuroko's sharing. "Turns out it tastes nice, huh?"
"All we have to do is the decoration," Sakuya stated as she watched the others ate their cake. Midorima gave his sharing with Sakuya and the girl tasted it.
"Let me do it," Kagami offered. "I mean, it's past eight already. Your place is in Kyoto, right? You should go back to your place and prepare for tomorrow."
"Kagamin has a point, there," Momoi retorted. "It's not like we're telling you to leave, Sakuya-san. You should rest for tomorrow, because you're going to bring Akashi-kun to the restaurant, right?"
Sakuya nodded in understanding. "I understand. I have executed my plan today. Tomorrow, we'll just prepare everything and surprise Akashi-san later."
Everyone nodded at Sakuya. "By the way, how will you bring Akashicchi, Urenomiyacchi?" Kise asked.
"I will visit the new amusement park first with Akashi-san, and then we will have dinner at the restaurant. When we arrive, we will surprise Akashi-san," Sakuya explained. "I will bring Akashi-san to the restaurant around 6 p.m., so please be prepared on that time. And, speaking about the restaurant, I searched about it and it says it has different rooms to hold some kind of event." Sakuya looked to Momoi. "Momoi-san, did you also book a room there?"
"Yup. The room is upstairs. It's quite large to fit for all of us. When you and Akashi-kun are there, just say to the waiter you're going to choose 'Turquoise room'," Momoi responded.
"I'll keep it in mind," Sakuya said and she stood up to the kitchen to check the cake. Kagami also followed her suit, not until Kagami shouted that the cake is done. They can smell the cake's aroma from the kitchen. "Is it alright if you handle the decoration, Kagami-san?" Sakuya asked as she took off her apron and hang it on the hanger.
"Don't worry. I'm good with this stuff," Kagami assured Sakuya. "You're going back now? Be careful."
Sakuya bid her farewell to Kagami and the others after going out from the kitchen. At the door entrance, Midorima already waited for Sakuya to finish preparing herself to go back home. The two then went on their way back to the station. "How does the cake taste, Shintarou-kun?" Sakuya asked the greenhead while walking together.
"It's neutral," Midorima replied shortly, making Sakuya smiled because the greenhead still doesn't want to express his honest opinion.
"By the way, Shintarou-kun. I heard from Atsushi-san that you were upset when your scarf was lost?" she asked again, this time Midorima's shoulders tensed. He sighed and glanced to the girl.
"Does it matter to you?"
"Not really," she replied and smiled to Midorima. "When I heard Atsushi-san's story about it, I can't help myself but feel happy." Midorima blinked at that statement. "You really are taking good care of that scarf as it is your important thing, Shintarou-kun."
Hearing that, Midorima turned away and pushed up his glasses. His cheeks were red from the embarrassment. "L-let's hurry to the station," he said as he walked faster than Sakuya.
"Ah, Shintarou-kun. You're going to leave me behind if you walk-" she stopped talking when Midorima's hand held hers. His fingers were entwined with hers; just like their childhood days. Sakuya kept staring at his grip even when Midorima slowed down his pace.
"Why are you staring at my hand like that?" Midorima questioned her, which earned a shook from the girl.
"Nothing," she said and set her warm gaze to Midorima's green eyes, making Midorima stunned every time. "I just remembered our times. Together like this; walking to our home and holding hands."
Midorima scoffed. "I don't want to remember it."
"Because it's embarrassing?" Sakuya asked.
"No," Midorima replied and he tightened his grip on Sakuya's small hand. "Because you are here with me now, I don't need to remember it."
Sakuya giggled hearing his response. "I never thought you can be this romantic, Shintarou-kun."
"…Shut up." And the two kept walking while talking some random topics with each other, just like the old days.
It's December 20; Akashi's birthday.
Sakuya, who is wearing her casual clothes with her white coat, waited patiently for Akashi to finish his morning practice with his teammates. That day, she chose to braid a strand of her brown hair for a change. She decided to wait outside of her door, and when Akashi came to fetch her, they can go to the station together. Before they went to the amusement park, however, Akashi said he must change his clothes at his house in Tokyo, thus she will visit his house later. Not long after, Akashi came back from his practice and the two walked to the station to visit Akashi's house in Tokyo first.
It is 2.45 p.m. when they arrived at Akashi's household. The first thing that Sakuya knows by looking at Akashi's house is one word; huge. The redhead's house is a two-story building with large garden in front. Its garden has a fountain at the center of it.
"Your house is bigger than mine, Akashi-san," Sakuya muttered after Akashi let her went inside the mansion.
"Is that so? I never visit your house before, so I don't know." Calmly, Akashi led Sakuya into the living room. "Just wait here, Sakuya. I'm going to take a shower first."
Sakuya nodded. "Where's your father, Akashi-san?" she asked.
"I think he's going out, and will be back at night," Akashi replied. He then excused himself and went into his room, which is upstairs. Not long after his leave, a maid came and offered a tea for Sakuya and went back to her work after Sakuya thanked her. She then spent her time observing her surroundings. The mansion is indeed very luxurious. She can find some branded items in every corner of the room. But what picks her interest is the collection of novels arranged in an old bookshelf in the living room, near the television. She inspected the bookshelf and traced the books, until she found one that gained her curiosity.
"'A Midsummer Night's Dream'?" behind Sakuya, a tall man with dark red hair muttered amusingly, making Sakuya quite surprised with the sudden presence of the aged man. Sakuya turned around to see Akashi Renshin was standing there, with overflowing charisma surrounding him. From one look, Sakuya knows that the man is Akashi's father.
Be the polite girl as she is, Sakuya bowed to Renshin and greeted him. "Good afternoon, Akashi-san."
"Oh? Did Seijurou already tell you about me?" Renshin asked Sakuya, who shook her head in response.
"Akashi-san never tells me about your appearance. However, I know you are his father by one look." Sakuya observed the tall man; about as tall as Midorima, thoughtfully. "You have the same leading and immense aura like Akashi-san."
Renshin hummed in reply. "I see," he said while smirking. He never thought someone recognize him from his emitting aura. "Pardon me, but I haven't met you before. Are you Seijurou's classmate?"
Sakuya nodded. "I am indeed his classmate and friend. I am Urenomiya Sakuya," she introduced herself and bowed slightly to Renshin. "It is nice to meet you, Akashi-san."
"Urenomiya Sakuya?" Renshin repeated her name. The aged man indeed has heard that name before. "I see. So you are Urenomiya Sakuya," he remarked proudly. "Just like Seijurou said. You are indeed very polite at your age."
Sakuya blinked at that. "Did Akashi-san tell you about me?"
"He did." Renshin then decided to introduce himself. "Pardon me for surprising you earlier, Urenomiya Sakuya. I am Seijurou's father, Akashi Renshin. If I may ask, how should I address you?"
"You can address me by my given name," Sakuya replied, which earned a nod from Renshin. "Then, I will address you as 'Sakuya' from now on. You should address me by my given name, too, or you will confuse both me and Seijurou later," Renshin demanded.
Sakuya nodded obediently to Renshin. "What business do you have here with my son, Sakuya?" Renshin asked after he told Sakuya to sit back so they can have their conversation.
"I am going to the new amusement park with Akashi-san," Sakuya answered monotonously.
"Oh? Is that so?" Renshin mused. "That's why Seijurou was excited this morning," he muttered under his breath, unnoticed by Sakuya.
"Renshin-san. I heard from Akashi-san that you were going out and would be back at night time," Sakuya asked politely, which earned a chuckle from Renshin.
"It was my plan before. But I thought I should go back home quickly to witness something interesting," Renshin replied calmly as his red eyes trailed to Sakuya's well-being. "Let's see…" he rubbed his chin while inspecting Sakuya. "Your parents have passed away. You are the only child. You are a half American. You live alone. You are very close with all of your relatives, especially your grandmother. Ah, you can't swim."
Those statements made Sakuya blinked. She guessed maybe Akashi has told Renshin about herself, but she never tells the redhead about her closeness with her grandmother and the fact that she can't swim. How does Renshin know that?
Renshin then chuckled. "Am I right?" he asked, which earned a nod from Sakuya. "Even though you only meet someone for the first time, you can judge their traits just by their physical being and features. Physiological study, that is the name," Renshin explained to the curious Sakuya. "Also, you can judge someone's personality by their readings," he remarked as he set his eyes on the book Sakuya is holding now. "Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', hm? Do you also read his other works, too?"
Sakuya nodded. "I see," Renshin muttered. "I guess that is why Seijurou said you were unique."
"Really?" Sakuya tilted her head. "I just love reading Shakespeare's works, though. Does it really matter to someone's personality?"
"It depends on one's eye of view, actually," Renshin replied. "Judging by how Seijurou told me about you one day, you are an interesting girl indeed. But, because you are unique, Seijurou sometimes doesn't understand your behavior. He can't read you most of the times."
"Akashi-san also told me about it. He said to me he couldn't read me sometimes."
"See?" Renshin chuckled. "That son of mine maybe doesn't show it around, but I know just by his looks and actions," he retorted and smiled to Sakuya. "You are the first person… the first girl who can make my proud son experiences amusing reactions. I should give you the credits for that."
Sakuya didn't understand what Renshin meant. She wanted to ask, but she decided to keep it to herself when she saw Akashi has done changing to his casual clothes; a grey turtleneck, long black pants, and a checkered vest, was descending the stairs and approached her. "I am sorry for making you-" when Akashi noticed the man who sat the opposite of Sakuya, he widened his eyes. "Father?"
Renshin was amused seeing his son's expression. "Are you going out later, Seijurou?"
Akashi regained his composure and nodded to his father. "Yes, father. I am going out with my friend here to the new amusement park," Akashi said as he stood near Sakuya. "Since when have you been here, father?"
"A while ago, and I just talked with your friend here," Renshin said and smiled. "If you are ready, you should take Sakuya out now. Don't make her waiting for too long."
"I know, father." Akashi glanced to Sakuya. "Shall we go now, Sakuya?"
Sakuya nodded and she stood up. When she wanted to return the book to its proper place, Renshin stopped her. "Give me the book. I am going to read it in my mean time," he demanded and Sakuya gave the book to him silently.
After Akashi wore his khaki coat, he bid farewell to his father. Sakuya also did the same, and Reshin saw his son and the girl left together. He then chuckled mysteriously.
"I said to Seijurou that an Akashi was guaranteed to get whatever they desire, despite the obstacles they will face," he muttered as his eyes narrowed. "However, this might be the hardest obstacle he will ever face later on."
Renshin traced the book he was holding. "To be, or not to be," and he smirked. "That is the question."
Since it is Sunday, many people visit the new amusement park. Many people came to the park with their friends or families to try every games there. It was indeed very crowded, much to their dismay. However, the two decided to enjoy their weekend there, even though they must queue to get their turn. With this chance, Akashi can get closer with Sakuya so the girl won't get lost due to the crowd. He held her hand all the time (and the girl didn't mind it also). For Akashi, it was such a great experience for him; enjoying his birthday with Sakuya.
"Too bad we can't enjoy the Ferris wheel," Sakuya muttered when they walked out from the park. It is 6.20 p.m., and the sky is getting darker. They are going to have dinner at a nearby restaurant. "I want to try it with you, Akashi-san."
Akashi chuckled. When they wanted to try the Ferris wheel, it was suddenly being closed for maintenance. Sakuya was dejected, of course. She was eager to try that particular ride because she wanted to watch the sunset from there. "We can do it next time," he assured her and patted her head to comfort her.
Sakuya nodded solemly to him. "Is that the restaurant?" Sakuya asked when she saw a two-stories large restaurant in front of her, practically where the others have waited for their arrival. Sakuya must act like she doesn't know about that place, or Akashi will be suspicious.
Much to her relief, Akashi is not feeling suspicious, either. "Right. Let's go inside."
The two went inside the restaurant and immediately was greeted by one of the waiters there. "Is there anything I can help you with?" he asked politely.
"I would like a table for two, please," Akashi asked the waiter. The sleek man searched something on his notes for a while.
"We have it available right now. Do you want it to be in a room, sir?"
Akashi thought for a second. He doesn't mind he has the dinner in a room or in the dining hall, but he needs to ask his friend, too. He glanced to Sakuya. "How do you want the table be, Sakuya?"
Sakuya acted like she was thinking about it. "I prefer it to be in a room, Akashi-san."
"Then, that's it." Akashi turned to the waiter. "Please prepare it in a room."
The man searched in his notes again. "We have three rooms available for that; Diamond, Ruby, and Turquoise. Which will you choose, sir?"
"Ah. So Momoi-san asked the waiter to pretend that the Turquoise room is empty?" Sakuya mused. The pink-haired girl and the restaurant worked together for this. Sakuya looked up to Akashi who seemed hesitant to choose.
"What a unique name for a room," Akashi remarked amusingly. "I do like their names, but I can't choose which one. What do you think, Sakuya?" the redhead turned to the expressionless Sakuya.
"Because today is your birthday, why don't we choose Turquoise?" Sakuya offered, since Turquoise is the birthstone for December. In her mind, she thanked Momoi for choosing this particular room based on Akashi's birthstone. And to her relief, Akashi seemed agree with it.
"Then, we will choose the Turquoise room," Akashi said to the waiter, who nodded solemly. The sleek man then led Akashi and Sakuya upstairs to the said room and left after explaining some things to them. The redhead then opened the door, but the room was dark.
"Oh, the light switch," Akashi muttered as he entered the room and used his hand to search for the light switch near the door. He finally found it and turned on the light, when he suddenly heard some party poppers are being opened to his direction.
When Akashi opened his mismatched eyes, he was surprised to see his ex-teammates there. "SURPRISE!" The Generation of Miracles and Kagami shouted in unison.
"You all...?" Akashi approached them, still processing what he was seeing. Kuroko, Kagami, Kise, Aomine, Momoi, Midorima, and Murasakibara were all there inside the room. He then saw a cake with a candle carved '16' was being lit on Kuroko's hands. Sakuya entered the room and patted Akashi's shoulder.
"This is your surprise party, Akashi-san," Sakuya said monotonously. She then pushed Akashi gently to get closer to the cake Kuroko was holding.
"Akashicchi, you should make a wish before blowing the candle!" Kise exclaimed happily as he and the others waited for Akashi to make his wish.
"Shouldn't we sing 'Happy Birthday' for Akashi-kun first?" Kuroko asked.
"Should we?" Aomine asked back lazily. The tanned-man doesn't like singing. But nevertheless, he joined the others singing 'Happy Birthday' grudgingly, almost being elbowed by Momoi.
"Next, blowing the candle! Akashicchi, make a wish first!" Kise exclaimed again, however he was being scolded by Midorima for being too loud.
After regaining his sense, Akashi chuckled slightly. "My. I never thought you all will be here of all places to hold this surprise party. How long have it been since we had one?"
"It doesn't matter now!" Momoi exclaimed. "Akashi-kun, make a wish and blow the candle!"
"Wish? Should I make one?" Akashi asked playfully, staring at the candle representing his age.
"Of course, you fool," Midorima scolded Akashi as he pushed up his glasses. "If you don't make one, you will be cursed for the rest of your life."
"What kind of reasoning is that…" Kagami sweated at Midorima.
"Please do not say that, Shintarou-kun," Sakuya preached Midorima. "If you tell Akashi-san that again, I will punish you."
"Nomiya-chin is scolding Mido-chin~" Murasakibara muttered jokingly, making everyone excluding Akashi and Sakuya laughed at Midorima. The greenhead can only glare at Murasakibara.
Looking at the candle, Akashi rubbed his chin; deep in thoughts. What kind of wish he should ask for? Although he doesn't really expect that wish to come true, he thinks he should make use of this one chance for that particular wish. He glanced to his ex-teammates - his dear friends who have been with him in basketball and spent their time together, Kagami – the one he acknowledges as a rival, and Sakuya – the girl who makes him ridiculous sometimes. Every time his eyes met with hers, there is that one feeling striking his mind. He doesn't know whether that is a good or bad omen.
At least, he knows one thing for sure. That harlequin-eyed girl is addictive.
Thus, he closed his eyes, chanting his wish in his mind, and blew the candle. Cheers can be heard later from his friends. "Now, let's make Akashi-kun tries our handmade cake!" Momoi exclaimed as she cut the cake with a knife and give a slice to Akashi. The redhead raised his brows at the cake.
"Handmade cake?" Akashi looked to Momoi, who beamed. "Ah. Are you the one who made this, Momoi?"
Much to his surprise, Momoi shook her head. "Kagamin and Sakuya-san made the cake! It's delicious, Akashi-kun! You should try!"
Feeling a bit relief that Momoi is not the one who made the cake, Akashi took a bite of the slice and tasted it. He then smiled when he tasted the sweet chocolate inside his mouth. "It is indeed delicious."
"Yeah!" Kagami shouted in satisfaction, and he patted Sakuya's head in glee. "We did nicely yesterday, Urenomiya!" the tiger retorted, and Sakuya only smiled back at Kagami.
"Let's get the party started!" Kise shouted, and the party continued on with everyone enjoying their cake and dinner. Sometimes, they would play cards and used challenges for those who lost (and Akashi always wins, so he didn't get punished). They then talked some random topics or remembering about their times when they were at Teiko. They also talked about their plans for winter holiday which will be coming up six more days. In one occasion, the party suddenly got messed up when Aomine threw a cream on Kise's head, which ended up making everyone involved in the cream battle. Akashi must use his threatening aura to stop the mess before they would be kicked out by the employees.
The party was a mess in the end. But the smiles, the laughs, the warm environment, all of it, Akashi can't help himself but feels glad he has those whom he cares for.
It is such an unforgettable event for him. He will remember it. He also must note himself for being successfully deceived by Sakuya's innocent acts. It is the first time he doesn't expect this kind of surprise party will be held again. He thought his ex-teammates would just send him birthday messages, but his guess was wrong. He believed Sakuya was the one who affected that.
Akashi chuckled while enjoying the night scenery from the balcony. He was relaxing himself after excusing to the others that he will be back later. Even when he got outside, he can hear his friends' antics from the room. They haven't changed from back there.
"Relaxing yourself, Akashi-san?" Sakuya then approached him when she just got back from the toilet. When she saw Akashi at the balcony, she decided to join him. She stood next to Akashi and leaned her hands on the railings.
"I am," Akashi replied.
"I see." Sakuya then remembered something. "How are you feeling, Akashi-san?"
"My feeling?" Akashi thought for a moment. "Well, it is quite a surprise for me. I never thought they would work together with you for the surprise party. I am completely being deceived by you, Sakuya."
Sakuya giggled hearing that. "I only bring you here, Akashi-san. That is my task."
"Oh?" Akashi chuckled. "Still, I am being deceived by you. I should be cautious with you from now on."
"Do not worry, Akashi-san. I won't deceive you again. It's just for today," Sakuya remarked. "Did your teammates in Rakuzan congratulate you when you were in practice, Akashi-san?"
Akashi nodded at that. "They did. They even gave me gifts."
"That's why you brought those boxes with you when you fetched me up," Sakuya muttered, and smiled afterwards. "Aren't you happy right now, Akashi-san?"
"Happy?" Akashi mused. "Only a bit, though."
Sakuya blinked at that. "Why?"
"Because I haven't heard that congratulation words from you, Sakuya," Akashi said as he turned his body to Sakuya. "You haven't given me those words I want to hear from this afternoon. I was expecting it all the time, you know?"
Realizing what Akashi has meant, Sakuya turned her body to face Akashi and bowed slightly to him. "I apologize. I have a reason for not saying it until this time, Akashi-san." She looked up to Akashi. "Honestly, I don't know what I should give to you for your birthday. I was so caught up with my plan to bring you here and ended up didn't get you anything. I am sorry, Akashi-san."
"There's no need for you to apologize, Sakuya," Akashi assured the girl. "I said it to you, right? I am pleased knowing that you are here with me, Sakuya. That fact is enough for me. You can say it is a wonderful gift you give to me for my birthday."
"Is that so?" Not long after, Sakuya thought about something. "If my presence here with you makes you happy, I must give you a reward, then."
Akashi blinked at that. "A reward?"
Sakuya nodded solemly. "Akashi-san. When you made a wish before blowing the candle, what did you wish for?"
"My wish?" Akashi chuckled. "It is something personal, I guess. I can't tell you about it."
"It's alright. You don't need to tell me, because," Sakuya stared at Akashi's heterochromatic eyes with her warm gaze thoughtfully. She then held both of Akashi's hands with hers gently. "I will grant whatever wish that you want me to do for you."
Akashi was quite taken aback with her words. "Are you saying… you will do anything that I wish for?"
"Yes," Sakuya replied confidently. "You can think of this as my birthday gift for you, Akashi-san."
Again, Akashi can't believe it. The girl will do anything he wishes for? It is shocking, indeed. After all, the girl said it herself. She will do anything that he wishes for. Repeating her words again make him almost can't control himself. But he must stay calm. Stay calm and do not rush things. He must believe his decision, just like his father said to him the other day.
Akashi took a deep breath and sighed. "You will do anything I say, Sakuya?" he asked again to make sure.
Sakuya nodded. "I always keep my words, Akashi-san," she assured him. "Have you decided on what you wish for?"
As the girl said that, Akashi observed Sakuya's well-being. She is wearing a white sweater, a plaid skirt, a pair of black leggings, and a pair of brown boots. She braids a strand of her brown hair to give a change for today. Her face is quite flushed because of the cold breeze, but there is no sign of her getting cold. She still has that unreadable pair of harlequin eyes, that small nose which breathes the air, and that pink lips which forms a straight line. When he set his eyes on her lips, raises a question on how her lips tastes like if he ever touches them with his own lips…
His lips? Tasting Sakuya's lips?
Just what on earth is happening to him? Thinking that he wants to feel those soft lips of hers so suddenly…
But, there's a wild urge that makes him wanting to ruin her lips.
Akashi smirked. These thought made him completely bewildered just because of one girl in front of him.
"I've decided," Akashi spoke out. He raised his hand and caressed his thumb on Sakuya's lips. "I want your lips, Sakuya."
Sakuya was surprised to hear that. Akashi wants her lips?
"You said you would grant any wish that I want from you, right?" Akashi asked the girl and he leaned his face closer to her. He used his other hand to encircle the girl's waist and pulled her to his body. He caressed her lips once more with his thumb before raising Sakuya's chin up. "I once told you that I am a selfish man. I want to be the one who feel your touch only. And this time, I want to be the one who taste these lips of yours," he stated and smirked to Sakuya. "Only."
Only him, not anyone else.
Without warnings, Akashi closed the distance between them and kissed the girl on the lips for a moment. He stared at Sakuya's eyes; unwavering nor feeling shocked. The girl didn't mind his bold behavior on her, and now he knows the reason why.
The thing he kissed was not Sakuya's lips, but Sakuya's fingers; which covering her lips before Akashi can touch them with his. He leaned away from Sakuya, but not releasing his embrace on her. Akashi raised his brows at Sakuya. "Sakuya?" he questioned her in bewilderment.
"I apologize, Akashi-san. It's not like I don't want to break my words earlier," she replied monotonously, staring at Akashi seriously. "However, let me do it myself. The one who should grant your wish is me, after all."
"Ah, is that so?" Hearing her response, Akashi chuckled. He shouldn't be the one who execute his own wish. "Pardon me, Sakuya. I was so excited earlier."
Sakuya shook her head. "Please close your eyes, Akashi-san."
Akashi blinked. "Why?"
"Because it is embarrassing for me if you watch," Sakuya replied, although her expression betrayed her embarrassment. Without complaints, Akashi closed his eyes just like the girl requested. "Um, could you lower your head, please?" she asked again, and obediently Akashi lowered his head to the girl's level.
"Is this fine?" Akashi asked while staying on his position, which earned a hum from Sakuya. He then felt Sakuya's hands on both of his cheeks, and she was getting closer to his face. The girl finally kissed Akashi,
On his forehead.
When she leaned away from him, Akashi raised his brows at Sakuya again. "Why it's on my forehead?" he demanded as he released his embrace on Sakuya. The girl only blinked at his disappointed look clearly showing on his face; the first time she sees it.
"You didn't specifically tell me about the location," Sakuya answered politely. "You only said you wanted my lips, but I don't know what I should do with that. I decided to give you a kiss on the forehead, instead."
"My my, I should have said it differently," Akashi muttered under his breath, unnoticed by Sakuya. "Well, it's fine. Anything that you do with your lips is fine for me."
"I'm glad, then." Sakuya smiled brightly to Akashi. "Ah. I should congratulate you, too." She took a deep breath and cleared her throat.
"Happy birthday, Sei-san."
The redhead was stunned by it. The way the girl address his name politely, the way her lips say his name, the low yet harmonious voice spells his name…
He likes it.
"Could you repeat that again?" Akashi requested, making the girl blinked. However, Sakuya just did what Akashi wanted.
"Happy birthday, Sei-san."
Akashi smiled. "Are you going to call me with that name from now on?"
Sakuya nodded. "Do you like it?"
"Why do you still ask?" Akashi approached Sakuya and embraced her one more time. "You can tell just by looking at my expression."
"Really?" To make sure of her assumptions, Sakuya called Akashi again. "Sei-san."
"Oh my." Akashi can feel his lips twitched upwards. He closed his eyes in joyfulness. "If this keeps up, I don't know what I will do to Sakuya if I can't control myself."
Every time Sakuya spells his name, he feels excited.
"You are right," Sakuya then retorted. "I guess you were really eager for wanting me to call you 'Sei' that other time. Because if I do, you will show this kind of smile."
"What kind of smile?" Akashi looked back to Sakuya, who observed him thoughtfully.
"I don't know how to describe it. It is different from your usual trademark smile and smirks," Sakuya replied bluntly, making Akashi chuckled. "Should we go back inside, Sei-san?"
"I think so." Akashi released his embrace and offered his hand to Sakuya, which the girl accepted nonchalantly. "Let's get back before Daiki and Ryouta make another mess again."
The two went back inside the Turquoise room and everyone welcomed the two with another mess, just like Akashi has predicted. And again, Akashi must use his threatening aura to discipline them all for making such disturbance. Sakuya can only smile at the scenery before her. At least, Akashi is having fun times with his friends.
"Well, I am still disappointed that Sakuya didn't give me the actual kiss," Akashi thought as he watched Kise and Aomine cleaned the floor. He then smirked. "Oh well. I can get that chance another time. Because…"
For him, he has already got the best present for his birthday.
From the other side, Momoi took a seat next to Sakuya. "What were you and Akashi-kun doing outside, Sakuya-san?" Momoi asked her curiosity when she saw the two went back together.
"We were just talking," Sakuya replied. She then spotted Akashi was staring at her and Momoi.
"Eh? Talking about what?" Momoi asked again to ease her curiosity.
Sakuya rubbed her chin; deep in thoughts. She looked to Momoi and smiled meaningfully to her, as she put her index finger on her lips.
"It's a secret."
