Screams and fire can be heard from the village as a little terrified girl huddles cowering in an old shed. While this young 10 year old girl was used to being called super cute by both the villagers and her own parents, at this moment everything about her screams of pure terror and pain. Her usual beautiful white hair clotted together by both mud and blood. Her favorite yellow dress covered in the blood that scattered all across it, streaming down until it either fell off or dropped down on her legs as she ran away in fear. Her once prized light blues dilated in pure terror tears streaming down constantly and helping keep her face as the only part of her not covered in blood. Blood that is not her own, but a sign that her parents truly loved her, sacrificing themselves at the last moment to ensure that their daughter had a chance to live on, even if it is not with them.

To understand what happened to this once pure girl, or how she ended up here, one only needs one word that explains it: Grimm. It only took humanity's greatest enemies less than ten minutes to destroy this once tranquil village , a village of around 200 with ten local huntsmen. A number a lot greater than most villages of this size, and something that this village took great pride in, but was always needed. For while this village was under the "protection" of the great kingdom of Vale, it being on the other side of the Sanus mountain range made quick or even regular huntsmen protection from the kingdom impossible. Unfortunately this still was not to stop the Grimm, as we can see now, with their pure numbers from overwhelming this village. Now back to the cowering girl, she understood that no matter what she did she had no chance against the Grimm, or even escaping what has already happened to the rest of the village. Coupled with all the negative emotions that were pouring out of her, ensured that even hiding would not help her for long. This is what terrified her most as she learned this from one the huntsman that often taught at her village's school, she knew that no matter what her time was ever slowly approaching her. She didn't want to die, she wanted to spend more time with her family, playing with the other kids of the village, to visit Vale, and to eventually become a herbalist like her father. Now all she could hope is for her own death to be painless and to see her parents again on the other side.

While she was still struggling to accept this future outcome, she began to hear gunshots and roaring erupting from the village. Still dazed by everything that happened to her, this noise barely even registered in her head. Yet as it continued and grew closer to her she was forced to notice it more and more, and after what was 5 minutes, but felt like an eternity to her she heard a man's voice call out through the village "Hey is anyone alive?!" Startled by this sudden voice the girl just stared blankly at the direction it came from, not knowing what to do. Before she can start to act she hears it again, "Anyone at all?!" Body still shaking, the girl calls out from her shed in a quivering voice "I'm here!" and finally feels hope, as she slowly pulls herself outside the shed.

Now Qrow has seen many things in his day doing Ozpin's secret missions, but when he saw that small scared girl emerge from the shed, covered in blood and mud, even he felt pity for what this young girl must have gone through. Having 2 nieces of his own he saw this girl whose whole world just collapsed in mere minutes and felt an unbearable sadness. He walked up to her and in the most comforting voice he could muster said "Hello my name is Qrow, and I am a huntsman, I am here to protect you now." The girl just stared at him, tears still streaming down her eyes and even without thinking said "We had huntsmen too, but now they are all gone." Before Qrow could even unpack what she just said she continued, "They are all gone, the huntsmen, my nice neighbors, my friends, and my family." After saying that she collapsed as her sobs started to overtake her, her whole body compulsing as she sobbed louder and louder. Not knowing what to do, Qrow bent down and placed his hand on the girl's shoulder and tried to comfort her and slowly started talking, "It's ok now, just let it out, you are safe with me. I am afterall one of the best huntsmen in all of Vale." That's all he could give her at this moment, as he knew well that anyone in this situation would be devastated by the loss.

After ages the young girl had finally stopped crying, not of her own will but of the lack of energy that she had all but used up at this point, both in the attack and breakdown after she was saved. Qrow had her sit down outside the shed to see if she was injured at all, and after confirming that all the blood on her was not her own, he now paced a couple of meters away from her so he could think. 'Now how am i going to get back to Vale with her? I can't exactly fly anymore with her here, should I head to the closest port city and get a ride back to Vale? Where is the closest port to here?' After looking at his scroll he scowled as he saw his answer, 'That's a goddamn week's journey by foot, probably longer with her in this state., but what other options do I even have?' After his pondering was done and he decided what he was going to do he walked up to the girl and calmly stated to her "Okay, we are going to head to a nearby port and go back to Vale. I have some friends of mine that can be of help finding you a place to stay." The girl looked at him and just meekly nodded her head so he continued as he took a drink of his flask "Good, then let's head off. By the way, what's your name kid?" She stared at him as he was the only thing in her world at this moment and their eyes finally locked together, her once light blue eyes that radiated pure hope and acted like a mirror to a happier world, now only looked empty now allowing anything to be reflected in them anymore. After what felt like hours, but was mere seconds she said "Mira, my name's Mira."
