What's up, everybody? Welcome to chapter 13, which will feature the start of Fate's coordinating career, and Owen is aiming to knock Brooklyn out of the contest. Last chapter revolved around Owen finally meeting the mystery Pokemon, which was a Heatmor, who saved Snivy once again. He then defeated Team Solar with ease, so it appears that Owen added another powerful Pokemon to his team.
Owen's team
Snivy, (f), level 10, Tackle, Leer, Absorb, Vine Whip
Pidove, (f), level 17, Tackle, Growl, Gust, Quick Attack
Blitzle, (m), level 13, Quick Attack, Shock Wave
Sawk, (m), level 26, Brick Break, Bulk Up, Mega Punch, Blaze Kick
Heatmor, (m), level 18, Flame Burst, Tackle, Hone Claws, Flame Wheel
"Fate, are you sure we're supposed to dress like this?" Owen asked as he walked out of his dressing closet. He was wearing a black coat with the collar popped, a pair of brown dress pants and brown dress shoes. "I feel so uncomfortable in this crap," Owen whined. Snivy pouted along with her trainer, but that was because he had elected to choose Pidove for the appeal round as opposed to her.
"Yeah. Look at everyone else in here! They're all dressed up and so are their Pokemon," the girl replied as she tried putting a top hat on Hez. The water and ground type refused to wear the silly piece of clothing. "By the way, have you seen CJ around? I haven't seen him since breakfast, and he said he'd meet me… I mean us," Fate asked while blushing slightly.
"Nope. I wouldn't be surprised if he found a seat in the audience, though," Owen replied while looking over at a girl who was trying to put a suit on a Zubat. The boy cringed at the sight of the blind Pokemon mauling its trainer, and he turned away quickly. As he did, he cringed once again. Brooklyn strode towards Owen and Fate with a confident look on her face. She wore a crystal colored dress that reached her knees, and her hair was curled and hung at her shoulders. She also wore a pair of high heels to go along with dress, which also didn't have any shoulder straps.
Fate took one look at Brooklyn before looking back down at her outfit in disgust. She was wearing a bulky, purple, strapless dress that went all the way down to her feet. She too had a pair of heels on, but her hair was neatly straightened and was shoulder length.
"I'm surprised you actually showed up," Brooklyn told Owen with a snobbish attitude. She then looked at Snivy, Pidove, Blitzle, Sawk, and Heatmor before sneering. The five Pokemon stared at the teenage girl bitterly before returning back to their conversation.
"What's so funny?" Owen growled defensively over the judging of his Pokemon.
"Oh nothing. It's just that none of those will do any good in the contest. Pidove have too small of a move pool, Snivy are so last year, Blitzle at this stage aren't good for contests, Heatmor isn't even a popular Pokemon, and Sawk isn't a contest Pokemon," she told the boy before flipping her hair and turning her attention to Fate, who was clearly nervous about her upcoming performance. "Good luck to you, Fate. I hope we face off in the battle rounds."
"You too, Brooklyn," Fate said nervously while looking around the trainer area.
"By the way, Owen," Brooklyn started as she began to walk away. "your outfit is stupid." With that, the blonde walked away and continued towards the opposite side of the trainer area.
As the girl walked away, Sawk stared at her angrily.
"I knew it! I told you I looked stupid!" Owen screamed self-consciously as he dropped to his knees, causing both Pidove and Snivy to shake their heads in embarrassment while Blitzle laughed. Heatmor ran to his trainer's side worriedly, but Sawk continued eying Brooklyn in disgust.
"I'm not sure you look as bad as me." Owen looked up and Fate turned around to see CJ in a full tuxedo, which was green and white. He also wore a black top hat and a pair of black dress shoes. Owen began to die at the sight, rolling around on the ground while holding his stomach. Fate on the other hand, found the suit be a great look.
"I like it. It'll definitely catch the judges' attention. Why didn't you tell us you were going to compete in the contest, though?" she asked with a concerned tone.
"I figured I'd surprise you guys, but it doesn't seem like that idea went over too well," the older teen noted while glancing at Owen, who was holding his aching sides while trying to suppress his laughter.
"Hey there, cutie," a feminine voice called. Both Owen's and CJ's heads shot up and looked in the direction of the voice. Both boys were speechless at the sight.
Destiny walked toward them in a sleek red dress that exposed her left side, and was also skin tight. Her hair was blown over to the side, and she wore purple eyeliner that hypnotized CJ specifically.
"You're hot!" Owen told the girl, causing Fate to backhand him. Owen dropped to the ground while rubbing his cheek in pain, which drew Brooklyn's attention, though no one noticed. The obnoxious blonde eyed Destiny before walking back over to the group with a false look of confidence.
"What do you think?" Destiny asked CJ while moving closer to the sixteen year old. CJ backed away slightly with a sheepish smile on his face.
"You look great. I don't think anyone here comes close to you."
Fate flinched at the words. Something about those two sentences struck a cord that she didn't know existed. Eying CJ, Fate began to turn cherry red. Destiny turned her attention to the blushing girl with an evil smirk on her face that no one else saw.
"Are you okay, Fate? It looks like you're catching something." Owen, CJ, and Brooklyn all looked at Fate intently, waiting for a response. The girl simply shook her head in denial before she was interrupted by the TV in the trainer area flashing on.
"Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to the Castelia City contest! My name is Julia, and I'll be your host for the evening. Today, we have over fifty coordinators competing for this coveted prize!" a brunette shouted into the microphone. She was tall and wore a yellow jacket over a long pink shirt that matched her salmon pants. She then held up a small gold medallion that was circular in shape, and had two large "C" shapes carved into it. There were four blue strands of ribbon on the top, bottom, left, and right of the gold item. "The Castelia Ribbon!"
An uproar from the crowd could be heard through the walls, and it exploded from the TV, causing the coordinators to feel a bit more pressure.
"The winner of the Contest will receive this ribbon, and will only be four ribbons away from qualifying for the Grande Festival!"
Again, a deafening roar filled the arena, causing Owen to flinch. The teen looked over at Snivy, who seemed to be terrified of the stage, and then at Pidove. The flying type looked just as terrified, causing Owen to rethink his options. Sawk didn't have the moves to make a spectacle, Blitzle wasn't able to generate enough electricity to use two Shock Wave attacks, and he had never worked with Heatmor before. Sighing, he looked back up at the TV and saw that his picture was displayed on the board.
"Our first coordinator will be Owen Plateau!" Julia shouted into the microphone.
"Good luck, Owen," CJ told his friend while patting him on the back.
"Just don't set the bar too high," Fate joked. Owen nodded at both of his friends before he was escorted to a small tunnel with Pidove's Pokeball in his hand. The light at the end of the tunnel reminded him of all the leagues he competed in, calming him down instantly. Snivy trotted down the hallway, greeting Owen with a bright smile.
"Hey, Snivy. What's up?" Owen quizzed. The grass snake gave her trainer a nod of confidence before running back down the hallway to return to her teammates. The four Pokemon gave their trainer a thumbs/hooves up, causing a large grin to spread across Owen's face. He then looked down at Pidove's Pokeball before running out on to the stage.
000
"Now welcome Owen and Pidove to the stage!"
As Owen exited from the tunnel he stopped dead in his tracks and gaped at the marvelous sight. The stage was the shape of a battlefield, and there were two entries/exits for the stage. The stadium was similar to that of a basketball arena that had three levels of seating. Each level was in a rectangular shape with the audience sitting in bright purple chairs, and everyone seemed much more respectful than the crowds at each league. Owen remembered the booing and cursing he received from enraged fans that had bet against him.
To Owen's left side, and off of the battlefield, there were three people sitting behind three connected podiums. To the far left, a tall and pale man with slicked back black hair that was greying stood with perfect posture. He wore a red suit with a black bow tie and a white dress shirt showing underneath his suit. Next to him was a short man with brown hair that was buzzed. He had tan skin, and the most notable feature was certainly his lack of eyes. To his left was Nurse Joy, who was in her usual outfit.
Owen watched as Julia made her way off of the stage before signaling for Owen to begin his routine. Owen nodded and stuck his right arm out while holding Pidove's Pokeball.
"Let's give this crowd a show to remember! Pidove, it's your time to shine!" Owen roared. Without hesitation, Owen hurled the Pokeball straight in the air. Pidove erupted from the Pokeball with a powerful Gust attack, causing the bright white light to dance across the stage. "Pidove, use Quick Attack in a circle to turn the light into a tornado!" the confident teen shouted.
The small pigeon zipped around the stage as quickly as she could so that the dancing light would be trapped and spin like a vortex. After completing a turn around the stage, a vortex formed. Pidove shot straight in the air, causing the twisting light to follow her tiny body, which made the crowd roar with excitement.
"Now fly as fast as you can before doing a nose dive straight through the middle of the vortex!" Owen commanded.
Pidove began to fly around in a circular motion in an attempt to gain speed so she could follow Owen's orders. As he looked around at the crowd, Owen realized that the audience turned their head in the direction Pidove sped towards, giving him even more confidence. Owen turned his attention back to Pidove, and the pigeon dove straight towards the ground while a white trail of light trailed behind her body. To gain even more speed, Pidove tucked her wings into her sides and began to spin, causing the trail of light to rotate like a double helix.
"Now use a full powered Gust against the ground!" Pidove's wings shot straight forward and a powerful wind struck the ground. The sheer power of the wind that stuck the ground shot Pidove straight through the double helix she had created, and she was engulfed in the bright white light. The crowd began to applaud for the brilliant performance, so Owen waved to the crowd in thanks for the support. The light was still surrounding Pidove even as she fell, but Owen saws unable to see his Pokemon.
Suddenly, the light was thrown off of the Pokemon that had just performed, and everyone in the arena gasped at the sight. A larger bird stood in place of Pidove. The new Pokemon's feathers were grey, while the hair on the top of its head was black. The beak of the Pokemon was a vibrant yellow, and there was a slight shade of pink just above its eyes. The Pokemon also had a large grey tail that had a pattern of black stripes on it.
"Wow! What an incredible performance!" Julia noted as she ran onto the stage and made her way to Owen and his newly evolved Pokemon. "Let's check in with our judges and how they felt about it."
"The way that Owen and Pidove… or should I say Tranquill, was impressive to say the least. Very impressive," the man in the red suit opined, causing the crowd to roar in agreement.
"Tranquill's use of Gust to propel itself through the light from Quick Attack was remarkable!" the short man with lines for eyes exclaimed while giving Owen a thumbs up, causing the teen and his Pokemon to smile proudly.
"When I watched you two perform, I could feel the connection between you both. The speed and power of Tranquill was captivating to say the least. Well done," Nurse Joy praised.
"There you have it, folks! Let's give a big round of applause for Owen and Tranquill!" Julia ordered. The crowd happily obliged and Owen walked back into the coordinator room with a deafening chant of his name.
As the trainer and his Pokemon made their way down the hall, Owen's other Pokemon greeted them along with everyone else that was competing. The Pokemon cheered for their teammate and trainer while circling around them. Tranquill puffed her chest out proudly as the Pokemon began praising her for the masterful performance, while the trainers couldn't say a word.
"That was… incredible," Fate started. Owen beamed at the compliment before turning to the other coordinators.
They said nothing, except for Brooklyn.
"It was okay, but I'll make everyone forget about that. Besides, the best part of the routine was Pidove evolving, which was pure luck," the girl criticized. Owen scowled in response, but decided to not reply to the negativity from Brooklyn. Instead, he walked back into the coordinator area and sat down on a bench, waiting for the next coordinator to be called.
"Next, we have Brooklyn Moore!" Julia roared while Brooklyn's picture appeared on the TV screen. The fifteen year old turned to Owen before snickering and walking away. Owen glared at the girl as she was walking down the hall just like he had. Brooklyn grabbed the Pokeball on her side and tossed it up before catching it nonchalantly. She then walked on to the stage, and the TV began to show her performance. "Here we go! Brooklyn, begin!" Julia told the blonde.
"Dewott, take the stage!" Brooklyn called while throwing the Pokeball forwards. A Dewott shot out of the Pokeball, and so did a wave of rainbow-colored bubbles. Without a command, Dewott threw both of its scalchops like boomerangs, and they popped all of the bubbles. A light sprinkle of light fell on the audience, causing them to gasp in awe while Dewott caught both of the scalchops.
Fate stared at the TV in front of her in awe. The beauty of the opening move was indescribable, and it made Owen's look awful. She then thought back to Owen's intro and found it captivating as well, causing her to become even more nervous for her performance. Owen scowled at the opening of the the performance, knowing full well that the blonde was backing up her bold words. CJ tried watching the performance, but the combination of Destiny's dress and her constant bumping into him kept the teen from watching.
"Now use Rain Dance and follow it up with Water Pulse!" Brooklyn commanded. The Dewott standing in the middle of the stage began to glow bright blue before a large white ball of energy flew into the air. Before the storm clouds could appear, Dewott hurled a gigantic blue sphere of aquatic energy right after the Rain Dance move. As soon as the two moves collided, a massive explosion appeared and light rain fell on the crowd while a rainbow appeared overhead.
With a swift punch on the ground, a geyser suddenly shot up and propelled Dewott into the air and right below the rainbow. The crowd applauded as the geyser continued to hold the water type Pokemon in the air, telling Brooklyn and Dewott that the performance was over.
Julia then rushed on to the stage and began clapping for the blonde teenage girl, causing Brooklyn to beam at the cameras that were broadcasting the contest across the Unova region.
"Let's hear what the judges have to say about Brooklyn's performance."
"The performance was absolutely dazzling! Great job!" the man in the red suit exclaimed.
"Remarkable!" the short man with squinted eyes shouted.
"That was one of the best performances I have ever seen! Although the performance was short, everyone was captivated by the wonderful visual performances Dewott was able to create," Nurse Joy complimented.
Brooklyn bowed humbly before walking off of the stage and down the hallway that led to the coordinators' room.
"That was perfect," Fate muttered bitterly, causing Brooklyn to laugh.
"That was pretty cool. I'd be shocked if you didn't make it to the second round," CJ told the teenage girl.
"I'm looking forward to face you," Destiny told the girl. Brooklyn nodded in response before walking over to Owen with an arrogant smirk plastered on her face.
"Now that's how you win a ribbon," she whispered in his ear before patting him on the back and strutting away obnoxiously. Owen watched in anger while his Pokemon glared at the girl also.
"Dew!" Dewott whispered loudly to Brooklyn. The girl was caught off guard by the meaning behind the Pokemon's words, causing her face to slightly turn red.
"Don't worry about it, Dewott. Once we face Owen, we're going to wipe the floor with him."
There's the first part of the Castelia contest! Even though he didn't know anything about performances, Owen still managed to pull it off, but he was ultimately upstaged by Brooklyn and her Dewott's performance. Next chapter will be Fate's, CJ's, and Destiny's performances, and the semifinals of the contest will be announced! Till next time, peace out.
1) Out of Owen's Pokemon, who would you most like to see perform in a contest?
2) Do you think Fate and Brooklyn are rivals? Or are Brooklyn and Owen rivals?
3) How do you think CJ will do?
4) Any feedback on what I should add or take out of the performances? This is my first time writing them, so all input is greatly appreciated!
