Chapter 50

~~∞∞Ω∞∞~~

"After that we stayed with them and they helped us recover. We had gotten to know them and by the time we had recovered we decided to stay. We weren't sure if people would be looking for us so it was better not to chance it in the end. In the end we fell in love." Yami said as they finished.

"So you all stayed, how long till they turned you?" Yugi asked as he looked up at Yami who had taken to wrapping his arms around him.

"Not long. A couple of months. We didn't have anything tying us to the outside world. If we tried to escape back home we most likely would have ended back up in a slavers ship."

"So why are you saying us leaving would be dangerous?" Malik asked and Yami looked to Atemu who looked pained.

"Ok." Yami said as he continued on. "This was many years later. We hadn't left the cave for a while as everything is here for us."

Yami was on his way back with Bakura and Marik from the local village a two days walk away. They were picking up foods that they needed that they couldn't get near them. While they could just eat animals they liked to have a variety of different foods that Atemu, Akefia and Mariku weren't used to.

So they would go to a village and Bakura and Marik would steal it. Yami would sit outside of town, hidden and collect and sort the foods out so that when ready to leave they could quickly disappear if needed. As Yami wasn't as good at stealing, it was only Bakura and Marik that would steal the food needed. As they didn't have any money there was no way to pay for anything so they had to resort to different measures.

They were on their way back and having gone a day of walking they were able to change to their half form and travel the rest of the way. They arrived at the caves entrance and heard voices coming from inside.

"Atemu, Akefia, Mariku is that you?" Yami called out.

The voices stopped and it became hushed whispers. They couldn't understand anything that was being said. They tried to hear what was going on but couldn't. Yami inched closer, Bakura and Marik behind him. They were almost at the entrance when an arrow flew out of the darkness and embedded right in Yami's tail, just off to the side.

Yami screamed in pain and collapsed on his side as his tail couldn't hold him up. Bakura and Marik dropped their packs and were at Yami's side, while keeping an eye on the entrance.

"Get out of here." Yami panted, in pain. "Get Atemu."

"We can't leave you." Bakura said before leaping back a little as an arrow landed in the sand just next to his tail.

"Go! Before you get caught."

Bakura and Marik saw four people come into the light in the cave, one holding a bow and the others holding swords. Knowing now they were outnumbered they quickly changed to small snakes and darted to some small entrances in the cliff face. These went and joined the main cave a good distance in. They hurried down the tunnel and soon made it to the main chamber before heading to the library where they knew their mates were.

"Atemu! Akefia! Mariku!" They shouted out, as they hurried into the library.

All three in the library had jumped in surprise, having not expecting the shout. They hurried over to Bakura and Marik and Atemu noticed Yami was missing.

"Where's Yami?"

"There were men in the cave and Yami got hit with an arrow. We would have stayed but we were outnumbered two to four. We had no choice."

Atemu was livid. He darted out of the library and down the tunnels, Bakura, Akefia, Marik and Mariku following after him. Atemu moved fast reaching the cave entrance in just minutes. He stayed in the shadows taking in everything he could see. Yami was held up against one of the men with a sword held across his chest. They couldn't see anyone else.

"Are you sure there are four?" Atemu hissed quietly so no one could hear if they weren't in the cave.

"Yes. The guy with the bow and arrows is somewhere. Be careful I think they are after you three in particular." Marik said.

"Most likely."

Atemu flicked his hand and on either side of the cave entrance the sand turned to quicksand and it moved around the corners. They wouldn't know till they were caught in it. Atemu knew if Yami was alright he would notice and knew they were there, but from the look of him he probably wasn't. His tail had blood oozing from the wounds, coating his scales. He also had blood dripping down the side of his head and he looked dazed.

"Bakura, Marik did he have that head wound when you left?"

"No he must have fought back and they hit him." Bakura replied.

Atemu nodded and changed to his snake form and grew it out till he took up half of the caves width. He opened his eyes and moved out of the cave and into the sun light. He noticed the men that had hidden on either side of the cave were fighting the quicksand and failing. The bow was nowhere to be seen but he could see the arrows on one of the men's back so he assumed he had dropped it in his struggle to get free. He saw the man holding Yami, his eyes wide and jaw was dropped open in shock when he saw him.

"Let him go." Atemu hissed.

"What the hell are you? You aren't a regular naga?" The man said in shock, trying really hard to hide his fear.

"Release him or die."

Yami was not faring well, trying to stay awake. The blood loss and pain making it hard. Yami couldn't even focus on anything around him, let alone the voices.

"Yami?" Atemu spoke in the naga language, still in his snake form.

He decided to use that language in the hopes that the men didn't know it as they were speaking Greek. They had taught each other's language, each of them knowing Egyptian before they arrived. Then Atemu, Akefia and Mariku taught them the naga language, well Atemu did since the others didn't have the patience for teaching, they were only able to just learn the other languages.

Yami didn't respond, he was just on the edge of unconsciousness. He couldn't even lift his head to look at anyone.

"Yami hang on."

Atemu watched as any strength Yami had left disappeared and his whole body sagged against the man holding him as he lost the fight with consciousness. Atemu hissed in anger at this and flicked his tail showing more annoyance at what was happening. What the man didn't know was that the flick of his tail was a spell. Atemu moved closer now that his spell was in play as he knew Yami would be safe.

"Stay back or I'll kill him."

He didn't know what to do. His men were up to their necks in quicksand, that hadn't been there before. They were terrified, screaming at him to help them. To leave the naga's alone and just help them.

He felt movement coming from his sword and looked down to find something he never expected. He froze in horror, his sword was gone and a snake was in his hand, he was holding its tail. Quickly he tossed it aside so that it didn't bit him, which as soon as it hit the ground it turned back to a sword. He looked back up to see the large snake was less than two metres away. He backed up quickly, the naga he had fell limply to the ground, getting him a hiss from the snake.

"How do you know about naga's?"

"We hunt them. We learn from the natives and track the patterns and then kill naga's." He answered shakily.

"We are very different naga's. You won't be killing anymore."

A flick of the tail and the sand turned to quicksand and he was quickly sucked up. Atemu quickly changed back as the others hurried out of the cave. Atemu leaned down next to Yami and gently turned him onto his back.

"Yami? Yami can you hear me?"

Atemu was worried when he got no response from Yami. He placed his hand on his chest and felt it move as he breathed and he could feel his heart beat was slow. Atemu quickly and carefully gathered Yami in his arms and headed back into the cave. The others followed behind him, Akefia swiped his hand and the left over men stuck in the quicksand disappeared under the sand. Their bodies and weapons would be transferred to the large main chamber along with all the other bodies.

Atemu moved quickly through the tunnels till he reached his chamber. Atemu laid Yami carefully down on the bed and grabbed the sheet and pressed it against his tail. Atemu was hoping for a reaction to that but didn't even receive a twitch.

Akefia had disappeared when they were moving down the corridors and quickly returned carrying some water, cloths and some smooth thick ointment. Akefia placed the stuff down and looked at Atemu who was looking worried.

"Atemu move aside." Atemu looked up at him in confusion. "Atemu I can help but you need to move."

Atemu moved away and Akefia took his place. He removed the sheet from Yami's tail as that was the injury he needed to stop bleeding first. Atemu took a piece of cloth, dipped it in water before wiping down Yami's head where the blood was starting to dry. Atemu carefully removed the dried blood before moving to the wound on his head where it was coming from. Even touching there Yami didn't twitch and that worried Atemu.

Akefia grabbed a cloth and wiped away the blood and then pressed it down to help stop the blood flow as he grabbed the thick ointment that he brought and placed that down on the wound thoroughly so that it was thickly applied and covered the entire injury. Akefia knew that Yami being unconscious was a good thing as it was painful for it to be applied. This was put on in the hopes that it would block and slow the bleeding and also to stop it getting infected.

Akefia had noticed that when he was about to put the stuff on Yami's tail that it was not a clean cut. It looked as though the arrow that hit him had been ripped out leaving the edges jagged. But he also noticed that it had been widened and he suspected that it had been twisted around and then pulled out. He knew it was going to take a bit for it to heal and then for him to be able to move on it properly again.

Atemu continued to wipe down Yami's head of blood as Akefia treated his tail injury. He was worried as even the thick ointment that Akefia put on he didn't even twitch or groan. Yami still had a slow heart beat and he knew it was slower than normal.

"Atemu there is nothing more we can do. We can only hope that it will stop the bleeding and he'll wake up. Get some rest." Akefia said.

He knew this had exhausted Atemu, the worry, using their powers, the panic had taken it out of him and he was tired. Atemu looked up at Akefia before nodding as Akefia then ushered everyone out of the room. Atemu turned to Yami who lay on their bed not moving. He climbed on carefully and laid down beside Yami and pulled him in close so that he was kept warm, in case his body temperature might decrease with the blood loss. He laid Yami's head on his chest and wrapped his arms around him, holding him closer before he fell asleep.
