Days passed until, at long last, the weekend came by. DA had finished studying for her tests, and did all her homework. After a bit, she felt, since it was a lovely day, she could go for a stroll. Grabbing her purse, and saying goodbye to Evan, who was on the phone with Mikey... For the fourth time that day, she headed out. After walking to the park, where the ice cream truck usually was around that year, she bought herself a vanilla sundae with blueberry sauce. She was still eating when she heard a familiar voice singing.
And now, the end is here
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and ev'ry highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Getting up, DA followed the voice. It was very familiar, but she couldn't place her finger on why that was.
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!
DA chased it down to behind the washrooms, where she realized, to her disgust, it was Judd and his friends.
Yes, it was my way
"Yeah J!" One of his friends laughed, slapping him five, "that will be perfect for the finale. But how are you going to break what's-her-face?" "You mean Janet?" Judd asked, lighting up a cigarette. "Well, I have the perfect way. It will be more fun crushing her then it was crushing Dora Annabelle." DA's eyes widened. She knew Judd was scum, but even then... "I mean, I read about the nerds." Judd continued, flicking his cigarette. "Virgins. All of them. I would have thought she would have been easy, just another cherry dying to be popped, but she's such a square, you would have thought I offered her an STD. She's going to die a virgin, and that's fine with me." "What about that other guy?" Another friend asked. "What's-his-name?" "I think it's Claudio..." The first friend began. "Whatever his name is," Judd began, "he's only showing her attention because he wants to pop her cherry. Either or, he's soon going to leave her, and she'll be so broken, the band will have to withdraw!" The guys began laughing, just as Dorothy Ann's eyes filled with tears. She quickly covered her face when... "You're wrong!" A new voice yelled. "Well, well, well, Claudio." Judd hissed. "I'd say it's nice to see you, but you and I both know that's a lie." "The name is Carlos!" At that, DA pulled her hands away, and saw Carlos standing next to them, a cold glare on his face. "And I won't abandon DA!" He snapped. Judd rolled his eyes and blew a raspberry. "Seriously? I know your kind. You only go after girls because they're willing to let you impregnate them! You ain't getting that from that nun!" "Don't call her that!" Carlos screamed. "You don't know anything about her, and you don't know anything about me!" "Whatever. Dory is boring." "She never deserved you!" Carlos replied. "She deserves a man who knows her! Like her favourite colour, violet!" At that, DA's eyes widened. He never used that term after they left Ms. Frizzle's grade. "She needs a man who knows things about her, like she only eats chocolate when she's depressed, she's one of the smartest people out there, and she has a tiny scar on her stomach from grade four when an accident happened involving a knife. You were never a boyfriend to her!" Judd rolled his eyes. "Whatever. It's not like she's going to choose you." "I know." Carlos murmured. "I blew that long ago. But if she can find that one person she can find eternal happiness with then I can be happy." With that, he turned around and walked away. DA waited until he was next to her before coming out of her hiding place and hugging him. "Whoa! DA!" He yelped. "What are you...?" DA responded by pressing her lips firmly against his. After they pulled apart, Carlos leaned in and kissed her again. "How much did you hear?" "Everything." DA answered. "DA?" Carlos began, "I love you. And I think I always have." DA smiled. "I love you too." She whispered.
yay! They're finally together, but the story's far from over. We still have to complete the battle of the bands! Note, sorry if Judd's monologue insulted anyone, I do not share his opinions.
