CHAPTER FOUR

THE CLASS TRIAL

Have you got your facts straight?

::1 | Monokuma File No. 5 | Review files again?

::2 | Hole in Window | A tiny hole that presumably gave out glass to cut Kaito.

::3 | Kaito's Electrocution | Kaito's swimsuit indefinitely electrocuted him.

::4 | Causes of Death | Kaito was either killed by the cuts in his body or the electrocution.

::5 | Swimsuit Detonation | There was still time to swim when the swimsuit detonated.

::6 | Swimsuit Weakness | The swimsuit will detonate prematurely if exposed to too much heat.

::7 | Swimsuit Timer | A timer was found on the back of Kaito's suit. It was stuck on "24:48."

::8 | Shattered Glass | There was only a few pieces of shattered glass found near the window.

::9 | Hikaru's Whereabouts | Hikaru was apparently with Kaito around the time of the murder. Hikaru also notified Unmei of Kaito's death.

::10 | Hikaru's Testimony | The temperature did not fluctuate in the wave pool when he was there.

::11 | Weather Changes | The beach house and other areas suddenly fluctuated in temperature.

::12 | Swimsuit Detonation #2 | Hikaru's swimsuit did not detonate while at the wave pool.

::13 | Knife's Location | There wasn't an available knife in the food cart that Noah could have been attacked with.

::14 | Status of Food | The food was already pre-prepared, meaning no knife was necessary.

::15 | Yoshinori's Testimony | It was confirmed by Yoshinori that the temperature fluctuated extremely.

::16 | Noah and Hikaru's Involvement | Noah would always read these strange files. Hikaru was acting slightly suspicious.

::17 | Corpse Discovery Announcement | Besides Noah and Hikaru, everyone else confirmed that they didn't spot the body.

::18 | Timeline of Events | At 10:00, Monokuma gave out the motive. At 10:30, Noah was attacked. Between 10:30 and 11:00, Kaito was killed, and his body was found moments later.

::19 | Noah's Testimony | The bleeding had stopped. The wound didn't seem to be severe.

::20 | Levers | Levers that control the temperature were found in the engineering room.

COURT IS NOW IN SESSION!

Soundtrack: Class Trial Dawn Edition Vol. 2

MONOKUMA: Welcome, everyone, to the fourth class trial! You all remember the rules!

MONOKUMA: During this trial, you are to figure out who killed our own smart-mouth, Kaito Aikami.

MONOKUMA: Point your finger at the TRUE culprit, and he or she alone shall be PUNISHED!

MONOKUMA: But if you point your finger at the WRONG culprit...

MONOKUMA: Then the killer will be allowed to leave the school, free and clear!

YOSHINORI: So why'd you choose to put our trial in an amusement park this time?

MONOKUMA: Unrelated.

YOSHINORI: Tch.

SHOUGO: But...where exactly are we supposed to start?

UNMEI: Well, Monokuma's motive was about Noah, specifically.

NOAH: I will tell you now, I did not commit this crime.

NOAH: If you vote for me, you will be seeking the end of your life.

UNMEI: A-alrighty then. We'll just have to figure that out.

KEIKO: ...Noah, you're sure you didn't do this?

NOAH: I am not a liar, Keiko. I assure you, it was not me.

[...Hmm. Something's still fishy, but...]

==PHASE ONE==

Nonstop Debate!

Usable Ammunition:

::1 | Monokuma File No. 5

::2 | Noah's Testimony

::3 | Hikaru's Testimony

::4 | Yoshinori's Testimony

::5 | Noah and Hikaru's Involvement

UNMEI: Can I ask a question first..? I'm still confused as to why...

UNMEI: It was Kaito that was murdered.

SHOUGO: Why would that confuse you..?

UNMEI: Well, actually, I'm confused that a murder happened at all.

YOSHINORI: Well, that's how these things work.

UNMEI: But there wasn't even ==a clear motive== this time around.

KEIKO: You've got that wrong!

Ammunition Used: [Noah and Hikaru's Involvement]

Soundtrack: Class Trial Dawn Edition Vol. 2

KEIKO: No Unmei, that's wrong...the clear motive was aimed directly at a certain person.

NOAH: Are you referring to me?

KEIKO: The files, Noah. Isn't that what you refused to give back to Monokuma?

NOAH: So what if it is? I didn't commit murder over it.

KEIKO: But Monokuma said that he'd reveal the contents of the files to the world.

NOAH: I...was prepared for that.

KEIKO: …

NOAH: May I say something? Why are you so convinced that the files happen to relate to this case?

KEIKO: Huh?

NOAH: You've been interested in these files for quite some time. Can I ask you why?

KEIKO: W-well...because you would always be reading them, of course.

NOAH: Is reading a bad thing? Are you suggesting I shouldn't read?

[Is he losing it..?]

KEIKO: No, no, not at all, but in each case, the motive played a pivotal part to the trial.

HIKARU: She's right, you know.

YOSHINORI: Yeah, Yayoi killed what's-his-face gamer boy because Shougo was trapped in the fish tank, or somethin'.

HIKARU: And then Rhyssa killed Micky over the movie and textbook.

SHOUGO: Then it was Kirei and Furo who killed next because of the games...

MIRAI: And now we're caught up with the present, right? So...um...

MIRAI: I have no doubt that the motive will play a part in some way or another. Because of that, I'd like to ask for Noah to reveal the contents of the files.

NOAH: What..?

MIRAI: Is that an issue..?

NOAH: Perhaps it is. It's obvious the files were a motive targeted specifically at me. Quite frankly, it's a personal subject.

NOAH: Might I also add that it obviously has nothing to do with the murder case.

MONOKUMA: Oho? How are you so sure about that, mister?

NOAH: The motive was targeted directly at me, and I did not commit this murder.

UNMEI: You seem pretty confident about that.

NOAH: And why shouldn't I be? Why should I not be confident if I clearly did not commit the murder?

KEIKO: …

[I'm...getting a strange vibe from this. I don't want to believe he's the murderer, but...so far, he's acting pretty fishy.]

NOAH: The murder was not committed by me for one very obvious reason, might I add.

MIRAI: What's that..?

NOAH: I was attacked earlier today. I would not be in any condition to kill someone.

MIRAI: Okay, well, hold on. I think...we might be going too fast. Maybe.

MIRAI: Um...that might be true, but if we consider Kaito's cause of death...

YOSHINORI: One of his possible causes of death is electrocution, right?

MIRAI: Mmhmm.

KEIKO: Monokuma told me of this weakness the swimsuits have.

KEIKO: If exposed to too much heat, they'll just explode.

UNMEI: Meaning if Noah could exploit that, even his wound wouldn't have prevented him from murder.

NOAH: While that is definitely possible, is there any other basis you have for singling me out as the killer right now? Besides the motive I mean.

UNMEI: Well...no.

MIRAI: I have good reason to believe you did it...

NOAH: And why's that?

MIRAI: Well, I fainted, and when I woke up, you were gone. Where were you during that time..?

NOAH: I wanted to find the others.

MIRAI: But your wound..?

NOAH: My wound simply didn't prevent me from walking at that point, Mirai. That's it.

HIKARU: Are we not moving too fast? It seems like we're accusing someone right off the bat.

MIRAI: No. I'm 100% sure that at the very least, Noah was involved in Kaito's death.

NOAH: That's funny. I'm 100% sure that at the very least, I had not committed Kaito's murder.

MIRAI: That's not what I said.

NOAH: It's what you were saying earlier.

MIRAI: ...I did?

[D-don't give up so easily, Mirai...]

SHOUGO: It sounds like Mirai's on the right track. So...is there any thing we can explore for proof?

MIRAI: Uh...maybe his attack?

NOAH: My attack..?

MIRAI: I'm sure it's linked somehow...

NOAH: ...Interesting.

NOAH: Very well. My attack is somehow related to this murder..? Two completely separate events are intertwined. That is what you're implying, correct?

MIRAI: Yeah. I, uh, think so...

NOAH: Interesting...Very well then.

NOAH: Test me, Mirai...

[...Mirai's hunches are usually correct. Somehow. I'm going to stick with it then. Mirai's knows Noah's involved, and I'm going to confirm it for him..!]

==PHASE TWO==

Nonstop Debate!

Usable Ammunition:

::1 | Weather Changes

::2 | Status of Food

::3 | Noah's Testimony

::4 | Noah and Hikaru's Involvement

::5 | Timeline of Events

NOAH: How is my attack linked to this murder?

NOAH: Personally, I'd say I couldn't have even committed this crime.

MIRAI: You say that, but...I'm not really sure.

YOSHINORI: If Kaito was killed by the electrocution, then you could have done it, right?

NOAH: I suppose, but that doesn't explain anything about the cuts, now does it?

MIRAI: ...So if we suppose you were able to escape your attack with minor injuries...

NOAH: Don't make me laugh. I was stabbed.

NOAH: ==There was no way my injury was "minor."==

KEIKO: You've got that wrong!

Ammunition Used: Noah's Testimony

Soundtrack: Class Trial Future Part

KEIKO: Noah...how can you say that with a straight face?

NOAH: Hmm? Like this. See? I'm saying it with a straight face.

KEIKO: No, you don't understand. When I was talking to you in front of the wave pool...

Flashback!

NOAH: My attack? What does it have to do with this murder?

KEIKO: I was just wondering...if you were okay, is all.

NOAH: Oh...yes. The bleeding stopped a while ago. I guess the wound wasn't as severe as we all thought.

KEIKO: You completely said the opposite. The wound wasn't that severe at all, was it?

NOAH: I was stabbed, Keiko. I only figured out it wasn't severe when I realized the bleeding stopped.

NOAH: I was still in pain, but the severity related to the fact that it was life-threatening, not that that it didn't impair me of doing certain things.

UNMEI: So, what? You're saying the pain was too much for you to handle? Shouldn't you be built against that? Being a policeman and all.

NOAH: We are not built to endure pain. We are built to deal out justice.

MIRAI: Um, but isn't that kind of ironic?

NOAH: What was that?

MIRAI: Oh, nothing...

NOAH: Anyways, moving on...

KEIKO: No, wait! There's something going on here!

NOAH: What? A class trial? Yes, I think that's clear.

KEIKO: I mean that your attack is still incredibly strange.

NOAH: Strange..?

KEIKO: It just seems...too spontaneous.

YOSHINORI: I'd agree, actually. You got attacked within thirty minutes of Monokuma giving out the motive.

NOAH: My attacker had a clear thirty minute window to stab me. What's so strange about that?

KEIKO: Just the fact that...there really wouldn't be a reason to stab you in the first place.

NOAH: Hmm?

KEIKO: The motive really didn't relate to anyone but you, right? That means there wouldn't be a reason for one of us to stab you in the first place.

NOAH: ...That's not entirely true, but go on.

KEIKO: O-okay...

KEIKO: I mean, even if it did somehow warrant someone to commit murder, they'd have to precisely plan out their attack in thirty minutes.

NOAH: I don't see that as impossible.

MIRAI: It's not impossible, but it's really hard...

MIRAI: Um...I'm going to try putting myself into the perspective of the attacker here.

MIRAI: First off, I'd have to decide that the motive was enough to get me to attack someone.

MIRAI: Then, I'd have to locate you. After that, I'd get the weapon and attack you. Lastly, I'd have to hide the evidence.

MIRAI: Seems kind of difficult to me.

NOAH: ...Alright, I get what you're saying. I never denied that. However, the fact of the matter is I was stabbed. Isn't that right?

KEIKO: ...There's something deeper than just being stabbed, Noah. I know.

NOAH: Then why don't you point that out instead of wasting our time?

SHOUGO: Isn't there something a bit strange about this whole thing though..?

YOSHINORI: And what's that?

SHOUGO: Well, I remember that Mirai said something about the lack of a possible murder weapon.

YOSHINORI: ...Yeah, I remember that too. Mirai came to the shop and was looking for a knife similar to Noah's.

HIKARU: Did he find one..?

KEIKO: I think so.

YOSHINORI: And...it was impossible to find a knife where Noah was, right?

NOAH: ..!

MIRAI: Add the two things together...a knife at the department store, and the lack of a knife surrounding Noah.

MIRAI: That's kinda odd...

KEIKO: Yeah...meaning –

Soundtrack: Class Trial Odd Edition

NOAH: Cease speaking at once!

NOAH: You're all just spouting nonsense..!

NOAH: Did you forget about the food truck?

KEIKO: But...there's something glaringly obvious about that thing.

NOAH: I don't want to hear it! Don't waste my time?

KEIKO: ...Noah...

KEIKO: Why are you setting yourself up to this?

NOAH: I don't know what you're talking about!

KEIKO: There's absolutely no way Noah doesn't know what I'm talking about.

KEIKO: Because I have everything figured out...

Soundtrack: Repulsion! CROSS SWORDS

==PHASE THREE==

Cross Swords Battle!

KEIKO vs NOAH

Usable Swords:

::1 | Noah's Testimony

::2 | Status of Food

::3 | Knife's Location

Are you==/==messing with me right now?

Do you not remember wh==/==ere the murder took place?

It was a==/==t the boardwalk, and a very big food truck is placed right there.

It would be very abnormal for a kn==/==ife to be missing.

DEVELOPMENT!

KEIKO: But you're forgetting something very obvious...

KEIKO: ...That makes the knife's location odd.

And what is that, might I ask?

You think that it's impossible for the knife to be at the food truck?

Well I disagree. Because that's==/==exactly how it had to happen.

KEIKO: I'll cut that claim to pieces!

Sword Used: Knife's Location

Soundtrack: Class Trial Future Part

KEIKO: No, that's wrong Noah. Like I've been saying, it's impossible for a knife to have been there. And you know that!

NOAH: …

MIRAI: The foodtruck near you didn't have any knives inside...as strange as it is. All the knives were just plastic, but they weren't as big as Noah's.

KEIKO: Which is sort of strange, isn't it? It just makes your attack even more improbable.

NOAH: ...Alright.

NOAH: You are all forgetting one important fact here though. The truth of the matter is that I was stabbed. By who? Do you remember me accusing Hikaru?

HIKARU: You still claim it was me who attacked you..?

HIKARU: Do you have any basis on that?

NOAH: I saw you, you know.

HIKARU: ...What reason would I have for attacking you?

NOAH: It's in your blood, isn't it?

SHOUGO: H-hey now..! That's not fair!

KEIKO: Don't skip around the question, Noah. You know something about your attack, don't you?

NOAH: How exactly would I know anything about why I was stabbed?

NOAH: Also, if I may, I would love to bring up a second probability on this subject.

UNMEI: And what's that?

NOAH: Perhaps the food truck only had one knife in supply. If that knife were used to stab me, then there would be no more knives.

NOAH: Keep in mind, I was facing away from the truck the entire time. I would not have seen what my attacker did, so I am just as confused as you are right now.

[He's...clearly lying, right?]

KEIKO: But if a food truck only had one knife, what would it be used for?

NOAH: To cut food, of course.

KEIKO: Wouldn't it be better to have more than one knife?

NOAH: It's not like Monokuma or Meowykins have to serve a whole crowd of tourists. We're only several students trapped in a dome right now.

MIRAI: But that's realllllly unlikely, Noah.

NOAH: Hm?

MIRAI: Sure...you need a knife to cut food, but I think the truck has been prepared to be anti-murder proof.

NOAH: What do you mean?

MIRAI: I mean, I think there really wasn't a knife there.

NOAH: That's preposterous. You'd need a knife to cook.

MIRAI: But there's one important fact you're missing...I think.

KEIKO: It's true, Noah. It really wouldn't have been necessary for a knife to be at the truck, and that's because...

PRESENT YOUR EVIDENCE! Why would a knife be unnecessary?

EVIDENCE BULLET #14

::14 | Status of Food | The food was already pre-prepared, meaning no knife was necessary.

KEIKO: This is it!

KEIKO: A knife would be unnecessary...because all the foot was cut beforehand.

NOAH: What..?

MIRAI: Mmhmm. The patties for hamburgers just needed to be grilled. French fries were already cut into their shape.

NOAH: W-well, it's still a food truck. Having a knife there would just be natural.

MIRAI: But like I said Noah, I think it was meant to be anti-murder.

NOAH: Anti-murder..?

MIRAI: The truck was never intended to be a place where murder could happen. Monokuma wanted us to kill each other in different ways.

NOAH: What makes you say that? You never know if that's true unless you ask that devil bear yourself!

MONOKUMA: *whistle*

YOSHINORI: But I guess it is strange. If the truck had knives for the sake of having knives, then there should be more than one.

MIRAI: Nothing's set in stone yet, Noah. But it's just really strange.

NOAH: ...Tch.

NOAH: Alright then. Let's assume you are correct. The attack Hikaru made on me...

HIKARU: It was not me.

NOAH: Whatever. The attack on me was strange.

NOAH: What's your point? What does "being strange" have to do with anything?

KEIKO: ...Well...

NOAH: The murders that have happened were always circumstantial, wasn't it? Isn't it possible my attacker just happened to do exactly what you said?

MIRAI: I guess so...

NOAH: Then you have no argument. We've just been wasting time.

MONOKUMA: Upupupu..! You can't waste an unlimited supply of time. Though your discussion is getting monotonous. Boring! Boo!

MIRAI: Maybe your attack was premeditated?

NOAH: You're so stupid, but you think of a possibility like that? You're one strange person, Mirai.

KEIKO: Premeditated..?

NOAH: It means it was planned beforehand. But that doesn't mean that I had to be involved in such a thing.

SHOUGO: No, the premeditation has to be impossible.

MIRAI: Why..?

SHOUGO: That would make the motive irrelevant, wouldn't it?

NOAH: What makes you think it was relevant before? It only pertained to me, mostly.

SHOUGO: I mean that it had something to do with every murder beforehand. You're attack was supposed to be murder, I assume...

UNMEI: If that were true, then Noah would have to be the one who killed Kaito. The motive isn't always involved.

MIRAI: What if Noah was the one who premeditated it? Then how would things change?

HIKARU: Why would he have to premeditate his attack..?

NOAH: You mean I hired one of you to stab me? That's ridiculous.

MIRAI: Noah...you're a policeman, right?

NOAH: Yes.

MIRAI: How's your knowledge in the medical field?

NOAH: What..?

MIRAI: Juuust wondering.

NOAH: ...Well, I know that's completely irrelevant to this matter.

KEIKO: Why not just say it..?

NOAH: Fine. I know basic anatomy.

MIRAI: The attack happened in an unnatural amount of time, and the fact that Noah wasn't even severely injured is really lucky.

NOAH: What are you getting at..?

MIRAI: Hmm...

NOAH: What purpose would I have to premeditate this attack anyways?

NOAH: I was acting normal. There was nothing out of place about me.

KEIKO: …

KEIKO: But I remember...you were acting kind of strange. Because...

ANSWER THE QUESTION: How was Noah acting strange?

He was in pain from the stab wound.

He constantly blamed Hikaru.

He didn't remember much about the attack.

He wouldn't move at all.

He wasn't acting strange at all..?

KEIKO: This is it!

KEIKO: Well, you were constantly blaming Hikaru about your attack.

NOAH: Don't you think it's natural to accuse your attacker?

HIKARU: I did attack you, Noah.

YOSHINORI: Aha! You slipped, policeboy!

NOAH: I...slipped?

YOSHINORI: Earlier, you just said you were facing away from the truck!

NOAH: ..!

YOSHINORI: Now how would you have seen Hikaru if you didn't face the murderer?

NOAH: I-I saw him running away...is all.

YOSHINORI: Excuses, excuses.

MIRAI: This whole attack had a really small amount of evidence to go on...but I think with all the facts and coincidences, Noah planned this attack himself.

NOAH: That's ridiculous.

NOAH: Even if I did plan the murder myself, the fact still goes that I had to plan it all out in thirty minutes. Which you yourself said was strange.

KEIKO: But you had the file on you the entire time.

NOAH: Why does that matter?

KEIKO: Maybe...the content of the files drove as your motive.

NOAH: …

MIRAI: If the files were so extreme, you would choose to premeditate your attack, and for what reason?

SHOUGO: Just asking, if he did premeditate his murder, how does that relate to Kaito's death at all?

MIRAI: I'm getting there...

MIRAI: He premeditates his attack...constantly blaming Hikaru... in order to frame him maybe?

NOAH: Ha. You're funny. That's funny.

HIKARU: Now wait a minute.

NOAH: This whole thing is based on conjecture. How would you suppose my attacker, who was Hikaru, stabbed me with ease?

NOAH: Note, it's a preposterous idea to trust someone in plunging a blade at you.

NOAH: Not to mention, anyone I asked would most likely refuse. They could've accidentally murderer me as far as I know, and that wouldn't be good for them at all.

MIRAI: Yeah, but...

MIRAI: ...aw.

KEIKO: Eh?

[Augh...don't give up so easily, Mirai! We're pinning him down..! He's losing his composure!]

KEIKO: Let me continue Mirai's line of reasoning, then..!

MIRAI: oh?

NOAH: Is that so, Keiko? Then answer my question. Who do you think attacked me?

NOAH: If you're right, then I will admit whatever you're all accusing me of.

KEIKO: Who I think attacked Noah..? Well...Let's find out.

KEIKO: Could it have been...yourself, maybe?

YOSHINORI: What?

UNMEI: What?

SHOUGO: What?

HIKARU: What?

MIRAI: Oh..!

NOAH: Oh?!

NOAH: Myself?! You think I stabbed myself?!

KEIKO: W-well, it all makes sense, based off of the things you said before. That's why Mirai asked about your medical knowledge, and all...

NOAH: What does my medical knowledge have to do with me attacking myself?!

KEIKO: Well, you're a policeman, right? You probably know the least harmful spot to get stabbed on the body.

NOAH: That's..!

MIRAI: Oh..! Yeah, yeah, I remember now.

Flashback!

MONOKUMA: Let's see here...The knife wound seems to be on his lower abdomen...it's not a particularly dangerous place to be injured, and there's a good chance of –

KEIKO: Will you shut up?!

KEIKO: O-oh...so I guess this is partially my fault...

MIRAI: Monokuma said it wasn't a dangerous place to be injured, right?

SHOUGO: Ha. And who'd know best about that then a policeman?

NOAH: ..!

KEIKO: Not to mention...you had that motive trailing your back since the time at the beach. You kept reading those files.

MIRAI: If the files led you to plan out a murder...

MIRAI: You could have decided to stab yourself, frame Hikaru, kill Kaito, and then frame Hikaru again.

KEIKO: Then at the class trial, you would have escaped here!

NOAH: …

NOAH: …

NOAH: Tch...

Music Halts

NOAH: I'm insulted, personally. That you think I'm capable of murder.

KEIKO: Then why did you stab yourself? You said you'd admit it if I got it right!

NOAH: …

NOAH: I'm a man of my word, so I suppose I should admit it.

NOAH: I did stab myself. There's no escaping that.

KEIKO: Yeah?

NOAH: However...

Soundtrack: New World Order

NOAH: You have another thing coming if you think I murdered Kaito.

MIRAI: Huh?

NOAH: This attack, and Kaito's death, are two completely different subjects.

NOAH: The point still stands that I was harmed indefinitely by my wound. Severe or not, you aren't exactly active when you were just stabbed.

UNMEI: But uh...aren't you liked, trained to do things like that?

NOAH: Not particularly.

MIRAI: …

MIRAI: I still think they're linked.

NOAH: Is that so?

NOAH: Well I say they aren't.

NOAH: Now, let's continue our discussion. The trial isn't over yet.

AN: We already have a murder candidate?! :O

This chapter took like two weeks to make...idk. I don't think that's horrible but, I'm sorry for making you guys wait again. .-.
