Chapter Eight

(Jacob´s Point of View)

- Hey dad where are you going?

- Oh I'm just going to Harry's. Big game tonight! – Dad smiled at me and said goodbye.

I wasn't going on patrols today so I decided to work on my car's engine. It was really chilly outside and some deep grey clouds were forming. It was going to rain for sure. I worked throughout the afternoon silently in my garage and it was kinda nice.

Suddenly the rain started pouring heavily outside. I heard some distressed steps outside but I didn't pay attention. I wanted to finish my work today. The grass must have been already soggy because the steps were slow and squishy. It must awful to be in this rain! Maybe it's Bella! Maybe she came to see me!

I tried not to be too excited when the front door of the garage creaked and she came inside. I continued working like I didn't hear her coming in. She remained quiet but her little heart was pounding quickly in her chest. She sighed and as she was about to turn around when I saw her. It wasn't Bella. Her eyes were looking outside but when she noticed that I've turned around our eyes met. My eyes widened and I was gaped.

My entire world stopped once I looked at her. Her long brown hair was damped and her eyes were the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen and if you looked closer there was a tinge of green in them. Her rosy lips were so perfect. Everything about her was perfect. Her clothes were pretty soggy and her feminine curves were showing. I gulped loudly and tried looking away but I couldn´t. It was inevitable. She was stunning.

NO I have to stop thinking about her this way. You LOVE BELLA JACOB! BELLA!

- WHAT DO YOU WANT!? - I yelled at her and my fists clutched. It was hard yelling at her like this. She is my…imprint after all.

Her beautiful clear blue eyes widened and she took a tiny step back from me. She was in shock.

- I am so sorry I…I…came here because I am lost and I wanted to wait for the rain to stop but I guess I should go. – Her lovely voice cracked from fear!? Was she afraid of me? She walked away from my garage. It was still raining. She would get sick and I needed to do something…DAMN YOU!

I followed her outside and before she could take another step I forcefully grabbed her arms and spun her around so she was facing me. She was shocked and she tried to escape from my grasp but I was too strong. She stopped budging but her eyes were frightened. That is when I noticed that our faces were inches close. She bit her soft pinky lips distressed and her eyes were searching a way out. I was still holding her frame tightly and I started leaning slowly to those beautiful lips.

She didn't notice how close we were but when her eyes bore into mine it was like a wakeup call. I could never love her. Maybe if she came around sooner we could have been happy but now…it is too late. For the both of us.

- Why did you come right now into my life? WHY? If you had come anytime sooner I would be…glad. – She looked at me like I was some kind of lunatic. My grip tightened and I heard a soft cry of pain but I didn't stop. I was confused, hurt.

- Look I don´t know who you are and I don´t know what you are talking about. Just let me go and I will leave you be, for good. You are scaring me! LET ME GO!

When she screamed at me I immediately dropped my hands from her arms. She touched her arms and you could see some bruises already forming. I hurt her. I hurt her. I looked at my shaky hands and my breathing quivered. The rain was stopping when a car parking near us but I didn't look away.

- Hey Jacob! Who is this? – She turned around and faced my friends who were smiling at her. I didn't say anything at them. I still stared at her bruised arms. I did this. I am a monster. I'm supposed to protect her not maker her suffer!

- Hey beautiful what's your name? – Quill being the ass winked at MY IMPRINT and kissed her palm. She didn't seem to mind and she was blushing furiously at Quill which made his smile even wider. I was angry, furious to say the least. I could feel myself losing control and I started shaking tremendously. Quill, Embry and Seth were staring at me quizzically. I looked at them trying to ask for help but I needed to go before I could hurt her more than I did. So I did what I can do the best. I ran away.

I changed to my human form when I arrived at Sam's. Emily received me with a kiss on the cheek and gave me a handful of muffins.

- Thanks. But I'm not hungry.

Emily's eyes widened. We never said no to her food unless something was up.

- Okay Jacob! What is going on?

- Nothing. – I whispered and I looked down nibbling the blueberry muffin.

Embry's jeep stopped right in front of the house and they were laughing away.

- But you got to admit! She is pretty HOT!

- Who's pretty hot? – Emily asked them. She smiled lovingly at the guys and greeted them.

- Oh just this girl Em. She is Bella's cousin. –My eyes widened. She is Bella's cousin!? Oh this is just great! I just imprinted on a girl who happens to be the cousin of the girl that I love! GREAT!

- Oh really? Well we have to meet her! Next time you see her, invite her will you Embry?

- NO! – I screamed and they looked at me quizzically.

- Jake what's wrong? – Seth asked me. He placed his warm hand on my shoulder but I brushed it away. He seemed hurt by my attitude but didn't say anything.

- I think I'm gonna go…buy some fruit! – Emily looked at Embry and Quill and whispered Talk to him. They just grunted and rolled their eyes but nodded at Emily.

Seth, Embry and Quill sat at the table and we ate in silence. Suddenly Embry cleared his throat and said:

- So…care to explain why you ran away from that poor girl like that?

- There is nothing to say. – I whispered harshly and I still didn't meet my friends' eyes.

- Oh come on! It's not like you imprinted on her Jake! – Quill said and they all started laughing. All except me. My eyes immediately looked up to their smiling faces that soon turned out to be shocked. Seth's mouth was wide open.

- WHAT? YOU IMPRINTED? – Quill yelled and I shushed him.

- It's not like I had a choice Quill! – I yelled.

- Well…should we say congrats? – Seth asked unsure of how I felt.

I sighed deeply and walked away. Before I left Sam's house I turned around and said:

- Please...try to keep this to yourselves. I just wanna figure things out before I… - They were looking at me sympathetically and nodded saying it was okay to feel like this.

But they don't know how I am feeling.

When I arrived at my place I went to the garage. There was this small white bag lying on the floor. I took the object that was inside of the bag. It was a small blue dream catcher.

- This isn't mine… - And that is when it hit me. It's hers.

The next day I decided to look out for my imprint. Not because I wanted to see her! Okay…maybe that's a lie. I parked my bike in front of the Fork's High school and took a deep breath.

- Okay…you just get in there give her dream catcher and get the hell out of here! Yeah…this could work.

I entered the main hallway and there she was. She was talking with her friends and laughing freely. Her laugh was so….FOCUS JACOB! I recognized one of her friends, Darcie. We used to be good friends but then she just…disappeared.

- I live in La Push, remember? It is a small town and people know each other pretty well and your meeting was quite the talk! - Darcie answered.

I started walking towards them.

- Well I was heading to your house when it started raining and then I got lost. I decided to ask for shelter and lucky me! Jacob Black was there and when he saw me he looked at me like I was some kind of disease or something! The guy is crazy! I mean he doesn't freaking know who I am and… - She was babbling away and it was kinda cute. Wait…how did she know my name? Her friends' playful eyes widened once they saw me. They stopped laughing and she gulped. I was breathing down on her and she shivered.

- He is right behind me isn't he? – They nodded and walked away.

She sighed and slowly turned around facing me. I tried not to feel affected by the way she looked but it was almost inevitable. She was stunning. Her long wavy hair was pulled in a messy bun. She was wearing a colourful blouse and dark jeans that hugged her curvy hips perfectly. She cleared her throat and I stopped staring at her. Damn it! Her heart was beating pretty fast and her cheeks reddened from embarrassment. And then she decided to bite those perfectly pink lips of her! Argh! Stop doing this to me!

- What are you doing here?

- I came here to give you this. - I handed her dream catcher and when our hands touched that same tingly feeling ran though my body. I tried to suppress the smile which was forming in my lips and retracted my hand immediately.

- Thank you. - And with that said she turned around leaving me alone. I was kinda disappointed but maybe it was for the best.

- What is your name? – What the hell am I doing? I grabbed her tiny elbow before she could walk away from me. Her blue eyes widened and she looked at my hand resting on her elbow. I immediately let go of her elbow. Did I hurt her again?

- It's Gwendolyn, Gwen for friends. And I am sorry for saying those things to you. I was just…

- You're saying sorry to me when I was a jerk to you? – My eyes glinted with surprise. She was apologizing to me!? After what I've done to her…and she is the one who is apologizing? Her eyes shut and she looked in deep thought. I find it too cute to be true. Her small hand rubbing her forehead, the crinkles forming in her eyes….I actually smiled at her.

- Yeah…I guess I am. – She smiled back and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. She should smile more often.

The school bell rang and woke me up from my reverie. I shook my head a couple of times and tried focusing on something besides…Gwen. Bella. Bella. Think about Bella.

- Goodbye Gwendolyn. – And before I could regret it I walked away from my imprint.

The deed was done. I gave her the dream catcher now we could all move on with our lives. I would not give up on Bella, not when we were becoming closer each day we passed together. I love her with all of my heart and just because I imprinted on Gwen doesn´t mean that I have to stick with her for the rest of my life. She deserves somebody who can respect her and love her and I cannot do that to her. I am in love with Bella and Bella alone.

- Hey Jake what is with the frown? - Embry and Seth walked in my bedroom. They were used to getting in my house without my permission. We were family after all. I was thinking so hard about Gwe…her that I didn't see them coming in.

- Oh nothing guys I was just thinking about Bella - They stared at each other and then they stared at me.

- Come on Jacob we know that you like Gwen. Is it that hard to admit it?

- I don´t like her! I love Bella. Always have, always will!

- You know Jake you really hurt her the other day. She is strong though…Even if you don´t like her the way you like Bella you should at least apologize to her. - Embry was always a loyal friend and I could see he was already attached to Gwendolyn as well as Seth. Seth just saw her the same day I met her but he talked about her all the time. It made me even harder to stop thinking about her!

- And tell her what Embry? Hey Gwen I am so sorry that I hurt you the other day. You see I am a werewolf who happens to have imprinted on you and you don´t even have a choice about this matter because is something biological! By the way I will never love you because I love Bella! - Embry led me to a dangerous path and I was already steaming up with this conversation. Breathe Jacob, just…breathe!

Seth was on the verge of laughing but remained silent about my outburst. Embry just stared at me unsure of what to say.

We heard an owl in the forest. We exited my house and the rest of the pack came to my front door. When Paul and Jared were in their human forms they said that Sam asked them to come to his place because there was something important to talk about.

- What´s wrong? Something happened to Bella?

- No Jake that is not what this reunion is all about. You will see. - They seemed dead serious. Something was up. I could feel it.

When we arrived at Sam's place Emily was already in the kitchen cooking dinner. Sam was next to her just watching her. Sometimes I wish I had that…but with Bella. I wish I had imprinted on her and not Gwen. Sam spotted us waiting for him. Sam kissed Emily sweetly and came to us.

- What is wrong Sam? Something happened to Bella? Was that bloodsucker? I swear to god if he…

- No Jacob there is nothing wrong with Bella she is safe. My only concern is with you.

- Me? Sam I think that I can take care of myself - I sarcastically laughed.

- Why didn't you tell us that you imprinted? - Everyone was silent. Dead silent. I looked at Embry, Quill and Seth. Embry and Quill raised their hands in defeat but Seth looked away.

- Damn it Seth!

- I'm sorry Jake but…

- It doesn't matter! We would eventually find out Jake! – Sam yelled and we stopped talking. He was right. It was nearly impossible to keep a secret as big as this.

- I don´t understand…this has nothing to do with you! - I was turning around when I felt a hand on my shoulder. Paul's hand. He looked strangely at me…almost pitiful!?

- She knows about us Jake. She knows about vampires and werewolves.

- WHAT? How? When?

- Victoria…we tried to intercept her a few weeks ago and she nearly killed her. We saved her. Technically she doesn't know about werewolves, just vampires. - Jared added.

She was almost killed by Victoria. A tug in my heart started to swell up but I repressed it. You don't love her Jacob. Get a grip! I wanted to get out of there fast. Sam's hand stopped me and I looked angrily at him.

- You should tell her Jacob. Right now!

- Sam I am not going to…and you know she is not ready.

- C'mon Jacob! You at least owe her an explanation for your behaviour! - Embry said to me.

- Fine I will go talk to her. - I walked away and started running to Bella and Gwen's house.
