Chapter Seventeen

(Gwen's POV)

- Hey it's fine! It is not like it is your fault…and besides it is awesome to be a wolf! - Jake smiled and rubbed my hands with his warm ones which made me gasp. He was so warm and sweet when he wanted to be!

He remained like this for a few minutes staring at our holding hands, smiling. I tried to feel unaffected by his touch but whenever he looked at me or touched me, it made me feel tingly and excited. Suddenly, Jake's gaze looked above and locked with my eyes. He leaned closer and closer until our lips were inches apart. I tried staying away from him but he was so inviting that I didn't even think and leaned in. Our lips were now brushing and my heart was beating so fast. Jake grunted annoyed, held my cheeks and kissed me. The kiss became more passionate and I wasn't thinking straight. He was driving me insane.

Jake stopped kissing me and for a few moments I was on my personal heaven. Our breathings were rapid and warm. When I finally opened my eyes, I stared at Jake leaving me alone.

I placed my hand on my lips remembering what felt like when he…kissed me. WE kissed! I kissed the most hateful person on this earth! He should be my eternal enemy! Argh! But why did I feel like this? Stupid IMPRINTING BOND! My beating heart was still beating so rapidly like I had just run miles and miles. I could still feel his soft lips colliding with mine. But why did he kiss me? WHY did I kiss HIM?

So many questions were running through my mind. It was already two am and I was exhausted but I couldn´t sleep! I was too…excited!? NO! Oh no!

- Hey Gwen why are you still up?

- Uncle Charlie you startled me! - I involuntary placed a hand over my chest.

- Well what are you waiting for? Off to bed! - I ran upstairs and closed my bedroom door. I lay down on my bed and started sleeping…or attempting to. I stayed like this for what it felt like hours until I was finally able to sleep without thinking about the kiss I shared with Jake.

Tomorrow finally came. I was still in my bed but I didn't sleep very well last night. I think it was already noon when I heard a knock on my door.

- Come in.

A smiling Bella came in.

- What are you still doing in bed?

- So can I start calling you Mrs. Cullen? - She blushed once I asked her.

- How did you know…? Alice! That little…

- Vixen? Pixie girl? – I grinned.

- AHAHAH very funny! - Bella sarcastically said.

- Thank you. - She sat down on my bed and ordered me to move over. I did and we were looking up at the ceiling.

- What is troubling you Gwen? - I looked at her stunned.

- How did you…?

- Please! I know whenever you lie or have a problem! We're family, Gwen! Besides you were always an open book to me.

- It's nothing, ok? I just…don't want to talk about it…

- You always say that. What are you so afraid of?

- Nothing.

We stayed silent for a bit when Bella interrupted our silence.

- Will you be my maid of honour?

- I don't see why not! It would be my pleasure! - I smiled at her and hugged her.

- So what are the plans for today?

- Well we are today setting the campsite. Tomorrow is…

- Oh right…would it be too bad if I have completely forgotten?

- No…I wish I could. - Bells sighed.

- Bells…?

- Hum?

- I decided to go with you guys to the battle. You need me and don't you dare stop me!

- I wasn't.

I tried not to be surprised and smiled.

- Good.

We both got up from my bed and she quickly helped me made my bed. We heard the engine of a car and a honk. Edward. We came downstairs and Bella opened the door. His grin was so wide that it even hurt to look at him! He kissed his bride to be while I awkwardly stood next to them unsure.

When Edward looked at me he smiled and said:

- It's okay.

I grinned at him and gave him a hug:

- I'm sorry Edward. I didn't mean it.

- It's all right I was just worried about your safety but don't you worry! It will all end soon!

- Damn right! I'm going to kill Riley!

- What? – Edward looked quizzical at me and then he looked at Bella for some kind of confirmation.

- She's coming with us. – Bella sighed.

- And don't try to stop me! – I pointed my index finger and wiggled at them. Edward raised his hands in defeat amused.

- So I guess you will finally be my brother in law Eddie Ed! - Bella laughed and he looked shocked.

- Oh come on! You'll be part of the family in a few months and you can't even give me a proper hug? - He laughed and returned my hug. I smiled. Things with Edward were so much easier since he discovered that I was a witch. He somehow…understood me.

- Well I guess we should go, Bella?

- All set! – She attempted to smile but I knew that she was worried about tomorrow.

- Let me just go get some clothes. What did you say to Charlie?

- That we were going camping.

- Seems legit. – I walked inside and ran upstairs and stuffed my bag pack with some warm clothes. It was going to be a cold night.

- Okay I'm ready!

They were already inside Edward's car. I got in and we drove away from your home to the darkling woods and mountains of Forks.

(Jake's POV)

I couldn´t sleep last night. All I could think about was that kiss that we shared. I don´t think I have ever felt like this and I could feel myself feeling something for Gwen. I was really trying to fight these feelings and I was really trying to think about Bella but it just seemed that she wasn't part of the picture anymore, like she didn't belong in my world.

The pack already knew and they were thrilled. When I ran away from Gwen after our kiss I changed into my wolf form and Sam, Embry and Jared were patrolling. Lucky me!

- Hey Jake what´s…WHOA JAKE CONGRATS MEN! - Embry said. I couldn't even control my memories! ARGH!

- GOOD FOR YOU JAKE! - Jared added.

I tried running faster. Trying to turn off those voices but they were so loud that I couldn't take it any longer.

- It was an accident OK?

- Well you shore didn't seem very regretful! - Embry was always a teaser when it came to girls and when Paul was around it was HELL!

- Just let them go guys. Jake, go home and get some sleep. You shore need some. - Sam ordered me and I behaved like the good puppy that I was! Sometimes I really hated this. If I wasn't a werewolf then there was no such thing as vampires. Bella and I could have been together because there was no Edward or Gwen around. It would be as easy as breathing. I rested my tired body on my small bed thinking about my crazy and also unfair life.

The next day Sam said we would meet at his house for lunch to discuss about the battle. When I came everybody was already there. They were laughing about something but they stopped when they saw me. Seth's eyes though were lifeless and dull. He had such a vibrant and warm positive personality that it was rather strange to see him so pensive and sad. I tried to suppress growling to him because of that kiss he shared with my imprint but I tried masking my emotions. I just hoped that nobody was watching us right now.

- So tell me Jake…when will be the wedding? In a week? Tomorrow? - Paul asked me and Embry sneered. Of course Embry wouldn't be able to hold his tongue!

I tried to ignore them. Emily smiled slightly at me, like she knew what I was going through! Like if anyone in this house knew what I was going through!

- If you haven't made a move Jake I would have taken the advantage…I mean she is so hot! But I guess that Seth already knows that, isn't that right? – When Paul said this, I lost it. I held Paul's shirt and we were inches apart. My breathing was becoming heavier and angrier by the minute. I glance at Seth and his eyes widened once I stared at him and he shied away from me.

- Take. That. Back! - I warned him.

- Oh! So you do like her!? You should have seen your face Jacob! AHAHA! - I punched him right on his jaw.

He threw me outside and we changed into our wolf forms. I bit him on the neck and he clawed my torso. We battled for ten whole minutes when Sam ordered us to stop and we did. I looked at everyone. They seemed upset maybe because I was not that bubbly boy who used to smile and laugh at everything. That young boy was long gone and it was time they understood he is not coming back.

I ran away to the forest. I needed some time to be by myself and besides I should get going to meet Bella and Edward. They will be expecting me in an hour near the clearing.

I ran back to my house and changed myself into my human form to get some clothes. My dad was worried about me but I reassured him everything would be all right. I was about to walk outside my house when Seth walked inside.

- Hey Jake can we talk?

- Seth if you cherish your life, you better get the hell out of here! – I threatened him but he didn't move.

- This will only take a minute. - He pleaded with those puppy eyes…Argh why did Seth always could get what he wanted just by looking like that? He was like a younger brother to me but what he did wasn't cool. One of our sacred laws was that you shouldn't be with someone else's imprint even if the wolf didn't have feelings for her. Sam was rather disappointed with Seth and so was I but most of all I was angry and hurt.

My father left the living room so he could give us some privacy.

- Jake I'm sorry! Look I know that I screwed up! I swear that I will never do that EVER again!

- You're right. You won't because I won't let you.

- It was an accident.

- Well it didn't seem like one. – I growled.

- Look she didn't kiss me. I did. I kissed her and she didn't kiss me back. – Seth's eyes seemed honest but I was still reluctant. – I'm telling you the truth Jake. It's all my fault.

- Do you…like her? – I gulped afraid of his response.

- Yeah…I do. But she doesn't see me that way. She is such a great girl and I just don't understand why you left her! How could you? I mean yeah Bella is nice but Gwen…she is just…different, special. Why don't you talk with her?

- Because I can't Seth! She hates me! My own imprint HATES ME! And besides I'm in love with Bella, not GWEN! – Seth snorted and nodded his head.

- That's just an excuse because I know she likes you. When she talked to me yesterday and I could see it in her eyes hat she was sorry and when I kissed her, she tried pushing away from me but I was too stubborn. Jake…she didn't mean it. She cares for you. But you know what? The problem isn´t HER it's YOU! YOU ALWAYS GET EXCUSES BECAUSE YOU DON´T WANT TO BE WITH HER!

- Get out Seth.

- Jake…

- GET OUT! - I yelled to him. I have never been this angry with Seth. He walked away from my house with a frown on his face.

- Don't you think you were hard on him, Jake? He is one of your best friends…

- Dad, he kissed my imprint!

- But still…you're best friends, hell like brothers!

- Please…not now. I have to go they are expecting me.

- Be careful. - I gave my father a long hug and a loving kiss.

- Always am! I'll see you tomorrow! – I smiled to him and he nodded his head in an attempt to fight the tears. I waved a final goodbye and ran to the clearing.

When I got there, Bella and Edward were already there.

- I just…want him to have a clear head.

- Who's head is unclear? - I asked her.

- Nobody's I hope. - Bella answered sneering.

- Alice said that there is a storm coming. - Edward said.

- Yeah I can feel it. We should get going.

Suddenly we heard the ruffling of a nearby bush. Edward started laughing and Bella rolled her eyes.

- Am I missing something? – I asked them unsure of what was going on.

(Gwen's POV)

- Great! This is just great! I'm all alone in the middle of nowhere! I have no food, no phone and I'm freaking lost! Oh why don't you follow us!? Yes, it's right this way! YEAH RIGHT! – I was walking alone in the woods what it felt like hours! One minute I was following Ed and Bella and next thing I know I'm lost! I opened a way though some bushes hoping it could lead me to them. I brushed the leaves from my hair and huffed annoyed. I took a few steps forward when I felt the whole world coming down. I tripped on a root and fell. Great! Just great!

- I'm all right! I'm just…going…to die…here. – I closed my eyes defeated and tried figuring out a plan when I heard people laughing. CIVILIZATION! I was grinning but when I saw Edward and Bella laughing their asses off I grunted. They knew I was right there and they didn't help me!

- I'm sorry Gwen. Here let me help you. – Edward offered his hand and I gracefully took it lifting me up from the ground.

- You guys left me all alone and I was lost! I could've been killed by a…bear! – They laughed even harder.

- I could hear your loud walk and your thoughts. I was always checking up on you.

- Whatever. It wasn't funny! Not cool! – I pointed my finger to Edward accusingly and he snorted. – Not…cool.

I lost my voice when I saw Jacob smirking at me. I lowered my hand slowly and blushed. His smile fell.

- Great. – I whispered.

An awkward silence fell upon us but Edward interrupted us.

- I will see you in a couple of hours. - Edward said goodbye to Bella. He kissed her forehead.

- Ready Gwen? – Edward asked.

- As ready as I'll ever be! – I smiled at Edward. We were about to walk away from them when I felt a strong tug on my shoulder. Jacob stopped me from walking away. What's wrong with him?

- WHOA! Hold it right there! Gwen, why are you here? – Jacob asked. Are you that dumb?

- Duh I'm going to fight some vampires! – I said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

- WHAT!? NO! It's too dangerous! – His deep brown eyes were widened in fear and worry but I ignored it.

- Well then it's a good thing that you don't care! – I walked slowly towards him and we were inches apart having a staring competition.

- Hum…guys? – Bella asked us. Oh right she doesn't know what the hell it's going on between us. Edward shot a curious glance at me. Have you told her? When he nodded no I felt relieved. I didn't know how she would react and I don't think that I ever want to know.

- Let's just go. – I took Edward's hand and walked away with him.

We walked in silence for a couple of minutes.

- Hey…are you ok? – Edward asked me concerned.

- No…not really. I'm just…tired. – I laughed sarcastically.

- Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. – He winked and smiled.

- You mean you didn't tell Bella that Jake…hum…

- Imprinted on you? No.

- Thank you Edward. It means a lot to me. – I genuinely smiled and we continued walking towards the campsite.

- Okay we have to get going! Hop on!

- You're kidding right? – I raised an eyebrow unsure if he was joking. He was not.

- Come on. – I rolled my eyes and held him tightly.

- You better close your eyes. – I immediately closed my eyes once I heard his warning. We were moving very fast because I could feel my hair being whipped by the soft cold wind as we ran.

- We're here. – I opened my eyes and slide off of him.

The entire forest was silent as we waited for Bella and Jake's arrival. We started mounting our tent for the night and the night grew colder and colder as we waited impatiently. It was starting to snow and I could sense that this evening would be a cold one.

Suddenly, we heard steps behind us and when we turned around Bella and Jacob were arriving. Edward ran to her and so did she as I was finishing setting the tent. I walked slowly towards them as they hugged each other. Jacob was also there staring at them awkwardly and then looked at me worried. I knew that he was still watching me but I didn't look in his direction.

- Thank you! - Edward thanked Jake and that woke him up from ogling at me. He nodded as a sign of your welcome leech!

- You should get back before the storm hits! - Bella said and Edward nodded while I continued staring at my feet.

- No I'm staying. You will need my connection to the pack to keep tabs what is going on. – That made me curious and I looked at him.

His eyes connected with mine and this time we didn't break the connection, not until Bella asked:

- You are not going to fight? – Bella's face brightened with the idea of him not going to the battle and to tell you the truth it would be a relief if he wouldn't fight tomorrow! But I knew Jacob well enough to know that he wouldn't let this kind of opportunity pass by. He was too proud and stubborn sometimes.

- Seth will spell me in the morning. He is not happy about missing the action but…it will keep him out of trouble.

- Why do all are so eager to fight? You, Edward, Gwen… - Bella asked.

- Gwen is not going to fight! Not under my watch! – Jacob growled which made me mad. How dare he? I make my own choices and there is nothing that he can say that will make me change my mind!

I laughed sarcastically and walked towards him.

- You're not the boss of me!

- Oh yes I am! – Jacob took my legs and held them tightly against his torso as my entire body was over his shoulder.

- I'M GOING TO KILL YOU! LET ME GO THIS INSTANT OR I SWEAR TO GOD! – I tried punching his back as hard as I could but he didn't seem to mind punching him which only made me angrier.

- Jake let her go! What's it to you? Gwen is here because she wants to! Why do you care? – Bella asked confused.

- BECAUSE SHE IS MY IMPRINT! – The minute Jacob said those words I stopped fighting him and stood completely still waiting for some kind of reaction from Bella but it never came. Jacob let me go and my feet were finally on the ground. As I turned around I faced a surprised Bella.

(Jacob's POV)

Holy. Shit.

Did I just confess to Bella that Gwen was my imprint? I looked at Bella worried and immediately let go of Gwen's form. She glanced at me helpless and turned around slowly facing Bella.

- What? I don't understand. – Bella whispered softly and nodded her head. Gwen raced to Bella and pleaded for her forgiveness.

- I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner but I wasn't sure how you would react! I didn't want to disappoint you…

- DISSAPOINT ME!? You LIED to me, the both of YOU! AGAIN! – Bella whined and looked at us furiously and made me feel small, defenceless.

- We didn't lie we just…omitted. And besides…we despise each other. – I said which made Bella scoff and laugh sarcastically in denial.

- No, Jake…she despises you but you…you care about her. I can see it now. – I gulped and tried to mask my emotions but what she said it was like a punch in my guts.

- And what makes you think that I don't despise her? – I snapped but regretted immediately as I watched Gwen. Even though she was trying to hide her feelings from me, her soft gentle personality betrayed her and soon enough she was crying.

- You know what!? I think I'm gonna go. I'll see you in the morning. – Gwen whispered and walked away from us to the forest. OH MY GOD I'M AN IDIOT! Edward tried stopping her but she continued walking, when suddenly she disappeared in thin air. I gasped and ran to her but Edward's hand stopped me.

- Where the hell is she? – I said nervously trying to locate her.

- She's a witch. Gwen can take care of herself, Jake. You'll see her in the morning. – I brushed his filthy hand away annoyed.

- You mind if I borrow your phone? I need to speak to Seth.

- No! Here. – He handed me his phone and I tried looking unaffected by its sweet sickening stench. Argh! I hate vampires.

- Thanks.

- Yeah you don't small that great either Jake. – He smirked and walked towards Bella. She hasn't moved from her spot and was looking at the infinite and not even Edward's voice woke her.

- Let's get you inside. – Edward dragged a shocked Bella to the tent. I looked to the horizon. Twilight was almost upon us.

I dialled Seth's phone number. It rang for a couple of seconds until he picked up from the other line.

- Hello. Who's this?

- Seth. It's Jake.

- Jake…hum…hi.

- Look you need to promise me something.

- Anything.

- If I…die tomorrow, I want you to take care of Gwen. I want you to be there for her.

- You know I can't promise you that.

- Promise me.

- Jake…

- PROMISE ME! – I yelled desperately.

Seth took a deep breath and accepted my proposal.

- Oh and one more thing. Could you check up on her? She kinda…disappeared.

- Disappeared…what!? I don't understand.

- Just go to her place and look up to her. Please. – And with that said I ended our phone call.

I just hoped that she was safe and sound.

(Gwen's POV)

I teleported myself to my house but nobody was home. Uncle Charlie must have gone to the police station and Bella was up there in the mountains with Edward and Jacob and now she knew the truth about us. Was she mad, was she disappointed, was she jealous!? So many thoughts ran through my mind as I walked aimlessly through my living room, gripping my scalp till it hurt. I was driving insane. I raised my hand and a gush of wind broke a lamp but I wasn't done. My body was on fire and I needed to release my anger. I raised another hand and broke a few glasses that were laid on the kitchen counter. I screamed till I could scream no longer and my voice was hoarse due to tiredness.

I fell on the ground due to the exhaustion and sobbed for a few minutes until I heard someone knocking on the front door. I didn't want to see anyone right now because I was a complete mess, so I shushed myself and waited for them to give up, but they persisted on knocking the freaking door.

- Gwen, I know that you're in there. Let me in. – I rose my eyes and looked at the door. It was Seth's voice.

My feet were weak and I was struggling standing up by myself, but eventually I succeeded. I opened the front door slowly and looked shyly at Seth. He smiled at me.

- Wow. You look terrible.

- Thanks.

He came in and closed the door. We sat down on the couch and he looked at the broken lamp and glasses.

- What happened? Did you drop a bomb or something?

- I was just a little bit mad. What are you doing here?

- Jake called. He was worried.

- Oh really!? Because he specifically implied that he despises me. Are you sure we are talking about the same Jacob Black!?

- Gwen…

- No. NO! I'm sick and tired of people thinking low of me. I'm not a baby, I can perfectly take care of myself!

Seth sighed and patted my shoulder.

- You guys are SO stubborn! Do you know why he called? He wanted to know if you were all right because you disappeared without a trace! He's in love with you and so are you, but you're both are SO STUBBORN!

I huffed and whispered:

- Yeah right…

- Can I ask you something? Why did you tell him that you hated him?

- We were becoming rather close and I you are right…I do have feelings for him. But then when Riley Biers threatened his life I really didn't have a choice. He wouldn't go away and the only way would be to tell him that I hated him, which is not true. I never did.

- I know. – He soothed me and gave me a hug. I didn't feel comfortable hugging him, not after the awkward kiss that we shared and I think Seth saw my uneasiness plastered on my face.

- I'm sorry about the kiss. I know that you don't like me, like me.

- You're a great guy Seth. – He huffed.

- I don't buy it.

- But you are! And someday you're going to make someone very happy! But that's just not…me. – I caressed his hands and he kissed the palm of my hands.

- You are something special, aren't you? – Seth smiled and I blushed which made him laugh.

- So...are we good?

- Yeah…in time. I was wondering…would you like to have dinner with my family! They are so eager to meet you!

- Really?

- Yeah I talked with my mom and she was thrilled because I talk about you like all the time! As for my sister, well…she likes you much more than Bella! -I laughed.

- Come on. Please, please, please?

- All right…all right!

- YES! Let's go then!

He took my hand and placed it on top of his elbow like a true gentleman!

- Shall we go?

- We shall! - We laughed at our failed attempt to imitate a British accent. Hilarious!

It was a ten minute ride so it wasn't too far away. We were at his front door. Seth knocked and we waited patiently for somebody to open it.

- What if your mom doesn't like me?

- It's not like we're boyfriend and girlfriend, right? - I nodded no and laughed. He forced a smile.

- I'm sorry.

- You don't have to apologize. – He whispered sadly and I sighed. I felt so bad for hurting sweet Seth like this. He has been anything but nice and kind to me but I just saw him as my best friend!

The door opened and we both stared at this beautiful middle-aged woman, Seth's mom. Sue Clearwater was a young spirited lady. She reminded me of Seth, particularly her uncanny smile. Her tanned skin complemented her kind large eyes and her stride was as graceful as her fair height.

- Well what are you two waiting for? Come in! - I laughed and gave Seth's mum a hug. We entered inside the small house and it was quite simple and rustic but at the same time, elegant ant timeless. There were some paintings of wolves in the living room and the small round wooden table was already set for dinner.

- Thank you so much Mrs. Clearwater for having me tonight!

- Oh please sweetie, call me Sue! - She took my jacket and placed it in the hanger.

We entered the dining/living room and we sat down. There was enough food to feed an army! But I guess since there were two werewolves in this household, it was enough for us.

- Where is Leah ma?

- She's a bit late honey but she said she would come over for dinner! - She smiled to both of us and started serving our plates. She served me first and Seth next.

The food was delicious. Roast with mashed potatoes! I was having such a wonderful time with them when I heard the front door open. A muscular and tall girl appeared. I have talked with Leah at the bonfire but she seemed very secluded from the rest of the world. She had fair skin and her short pixie hair reminded me of Alice's but personality wise…she was completely different of her kin.

We stood up to great her.

- Ah Leah sweetie you came! I'm glad! - She gave her a kiss on the cheek and she kissed her back.

Seth grabbed my elbow and we walked towards Leah. When she saw me she actually smiled slightly.

- Leah this is my good friend Gwen. Gwen this is my sis Leah.

- Yeah we have met Seth. – I said.

- Oh right the bonfire!? – Seth smiled and I nodded in affirmative.

- Well it's really nice to meet you Leah! Officially! - I smiled slightly and we shook hands.

- Yeah you too.

- Uau! Leah being civil!? It must be the first time that she was actually nice to somebody!

- Shut up little brother! – Leah ruffled Seth's hair playfully and smiled.

- Hey stop it!

We sat down in the table and finished our dinner. Leah was sitting right next to me.

- So tell me witch, are you going to fight alongside us tomorrow? Or are you going to run like your treacherous cousin? - Leah asked me.

- Leah! - Her mom reprimanded her again

- No that is a perfectly understandable question. Yes I am going to fight tomorrow.

- But I thought you were going to sleep up in the mountain!? – Leah asked me confused.

- Yeah, well…change of plans. Bella discovered that Jacob…imprinted on me. – Leah choked when she heard me and Sue's eyes widened.

- What did Jake say? And Bella? – Sue asked me.

- Huh she was in complete shock and Jake…he told me that he despised me. – I looked down ashamed because I would always be the second choice, the excluded.

- Which it isn't true. – Seth pointed out and I dropped my cutlery.

- Why do you keep defending HIM Seth?

The Clearwater family stared at me stunned.

- I'm sorry. I apologize. I shouldn't have come. – I stood up and dragged my chair but Seth's hand stopped me from leaving.

- No, stop. You're right but please don't go away.

I reluctantly nodded and sat down again.

- Just make sure you don't need help tomorrow…you know Jake can't always be there for you.

- I don't need Jacob's help. I can manage on my own. – I spat at her.

- You know Swan…you are not like your cousin. I think I can tolerate you better than her!

- Oh my god! Leah likes someone? Am I dreaming? - Seth sarcastically said. I laughed with Sue while Leah rolled her eyes.

My feelings for Leah were exactly the same: I could tolerate her but I would like us to become friends. I knew she was in pain and when you are in those difficult times in life you really could use someone, but I guess she needs some time to heal.
