24. Sacrifice
He should have known.
One second, he found Roy bound and gagged. The next, he was knocked out cold and tied up beside Roy. Surprisingly, he wasn't gagged unlike Roy, but the thoughts remained:
He should have saw the trap coming. He wished that he had saved Roy.
And now he and Roy were captured, waiting for what will happen to them.
Sighing and struggling against the ropes chewing through his wrists, he had to find a way to escape. Blood trickled down his wrists and his face as he struggled to get free. Realizing that there's no way out, he sighed and slumped in his bonds. He turned to Roy, who was shaking and sobbing. His heart broke upon seeing how frightened Roy was.
"Roy, it's going to be all right…" He tried to comfort the boy.
Roy turned to Marth, tears streaming down his face. Marth knew what he was feeling: he felt it was his fault that he let Marth get captured.
"Roy, this isn't your fault," He whispered, "don't take the blame. It should be me you should be blaming."
Roy looked down, whimpering through the gag.
Marth scooted towards the boy, placing his head on his shoulder to comfort him. "It's all right… we'll find a way out of here."
They froze upon hearing the cell door open. Three large men came in the cell he and Marth were trapped in, all of them grinning.
"Hehe, finally woke up, eh princey?" One of the men sneered.
Marth spat at his direction. "Shut up." He growled.
The man, presumably the leader, growled and grabbed him by the neck. He held him up in the air, choking him. Roy screamed through the gag as this happened.
"You're not here to order us around, princey!" He growled, "After what happened in the war, it's time to have our sweet, sweet revenge."
He threw Marth on the ground, and the prince growled.
"I'm quite surprised that luring you here with your boyfriend did the trick. I expected you to put up more of a fight."
Roy whimpered from this, guilt hitting him hard.
The men turned towards the boy. "Guess we'll have to kill him now!"
That set Marth off. "Don't you DARE touch him!" He growled.
One of the men slapped Marth across the face. "Shut the hell up!"
The leader grabbed Roy by the shirt and began to drag him away. Marth grew desperate as this happened. He can't let these bastards kill him!
"PLEASE! Don't kill him! It's me you want, right?! Kill me instead!" He cried.
The three men turned to Marth, evil grins across their faces.
"Heh, you're right. It's you we want. Guess we'll have to kill you instead. Your boyfriend will watch!"
They threw Roy beside Marth, and they grabbed Marth. "Before you take me… please let me say goodbye to him."
The men sighed with impatience. "All right, but be quick!"
They set Marth down, and Marth scooted closer to Roy.
"Roy… remember that I always love you. Please… take care of my kingdom for me." Roy's eyes noticed a piece of glass behind Marth. He realized what he was doing: he's setting a plan of escape in action.
Marth kissed his gagged lips, and after a while, the men took him to a table.
Roy took the chance to quickly grab the glass and he began sawing the ropes.
As he continued to cut through his bonds, he heard screams of pain. He froze as he turned to see the men stabbing Marth brutally in the stomach, blood trickling down his body. Scared for Marth's life, he sawed through the ropes faster.
As the men stabbed Marth in the stomach and chest, Roy finally broke free. Ripping off the gag, he grabbed a sword on the wall and lunged at the men.
"What the—" Before the leader could do something, Roy stabbed him in the back, killing him.
"Kill the kid!" One of the men shouted, but before they could make their move, Roy stabbed them to death. Pools of blood were on the floor as Roy rushed to Marth's side.
"Marth! Are you all right?!" Roy gasped as he cut through Marth's bonds.
Marth slowly got up, coughing blood. "I-I'm all right, Roy… are you okay?"
Roy nodded, still shaken up. "I-I'm fine… but you're hurt! I should've cut through those ropes quicker…"
"Th-this isn't your fault, Roy…" Marth gave him a weak smile, "I…" He suddenly fainted, and the last thing he heard was Roy's scream for his name.
Marth groggily woke up, feeling pain in his stomach and chest. He looked down to see that he was lying in a bed, his injuries wrapped in blood-soaked bandages. When he turned his head, he saw Roy, a worried expression on his face.
"R-Roy…?" Before he could say another word, Roy suddenly tackled him in a hug, sobbing.
"Marth! Y-you're all right!" He sobbed.
Marth was taken by surprise, but he smiled softly as he held his lover close.
If Marth didn't have that piece of glass, sacrificing his life for Roy would be worth it.
Constructive criticism is welcomed! :D
