28. Rain

Rain poured down on Marth's body as he scouted around the camp, looking for any ambushers. It was his turn to do guard duty, and despite some protests by some of his friends, including Roy, he still got out in this summer pour to search for any enemies.

Sighing, he wiped off some stray raindrops that dripped from his hair to his face. He shivered despite how warm the rain was, and he managed to hold in a sneeze.

While he was checking around a bush, he sensed someone behind him. Gripping his sword, he turned, only to see Roy, who was ready to dodge an attack. He wore a red hood to protect himself from the rain.

"Roy?" Marth asked, "What are you doing outside? You should be in your tent."

"I was going to ask you the same thing," Roy spoke, "you've been out in this rain for hours now. I think it's time you should rest before you catch a cold."

Marth shook his head. "I can't, Roy. What if we're attacked when I'm in my tent?"

Roy sighed. "I know that could be a possibility, but—"

"Then I have to stay out here."

Marth turned to continue his scouting, but Roy ran in front of him, blocking his way. "No really, you need to rest for the night. You're shivering right now."

"But Roy, I—" Marth tried to reason with his best friend, but Roy interrupted.

"Marth, listen to me. It's possible that we could be ambushed, but you're acting paranoid. What if there wasn't a single enemy out here? You would get sick for nothing!"

Marth hesitated. He was right; what if there were no enemies around? Sighing, he nodded. "All right…"

"It'll be good for you. Trust me." Roy smiled as he placed his arm around the prince's shoulders, taking him to the red-head boy's tent.

Upon entering the tent, Marth suddenly sneezed and began to shiver.

"I wasn't kidding about being sick," Roy tried to crack a joke when he helped Marth to a chair. Marth sighed as he sat down, and he sneezed again.

"I don't have much here, but…I have a few blankets that I reserved. I also have a towel to dry you off."

Marth nodded. "Th—" He sneezed again, "—that'll be great, Roy…"

Roy smiled as he walked towards the treasure box, and he opened it. Inside, there were towels, blankets, pillows, and some tissues. Grabbing the needed items, he walked back to where Marth was.

"Here." Roy offered him some tissues. Marth looked down at them and took them, smiling.

"T-thank you, Roy…" He whispered, and he sneezed again, this time using the tissue instead of his hands.

Roy gave him the towel, and Marth slowly dried himself off. The prince stopped shivering when he was done.

"Here…you need to stay dry and warm." Roy said as he gave him the blankets. Marth quickly took them and wrapped himself up with them, feeling the warmth and coziness.

Roy smiled. "I'll do the scouting for the rest of the night. Get some rest, Marth." He said with a smile.

Before he left, he heard Marth saying his name. "Roy?"

"Hm?" Roy turned around to face his friend.

"Thank you…you're a good friend." Marth spoke softly, smiling.

Roy nodded, still smiling. "Glad to help. If you need anything, call for me."

"I will…" With that, Marth fell asleep on the chair.

Chuckling, Roy walked towards the sleeping prince and picked him up bridal style, the blankets still covering him. He then placed Marth on his own bed, and he smiled.

"Rest well, Marth." Roy placed his hand on Marth's cheek, stroking it.

After that was said and done, he went outside to continue Marth's scouting.
