35. Feast
Today was Thanksgiving, and the Smash Mansion was boisterous. Years had passed since the fourth tournament, and most of the Smashers had brought their children for this special occasion.
Ryu watched as his and Little Mac's daughter, Kei, chased Shulk and Lucina's daughter, Kali, around the Living Room. The two girls giggled, both of them enjoying their time.
As he and Little Mac watched the children play, they heard a knock on the front door.
Lucina smiled as she placed a plate in the sink. "That must be Marth and Roy!" she cried excitedly as she ran towards the door.
She opened it, and standing there were Marth and Roy, holding their two children, Anri and Sophie, in their arms.
"Hello, Lucina!" Roy greeted with a large smile on his face.
Lucina gasped when she saw the two children. "Awww, aren't they adorable!" she giggled as she kissed Anri on the head. The small toddler giggled, a smile on his face.
Sophie stared at Lucina, then at Marth. A curious expression was on her face.
Marth chuckled. "Sophie seems confused as to why there's two Daddies," he explained.
Lucina giggled. "Makes sense. I did dress up as you."
Marth laughed as he and Roy entered the Mansion. They looked around to see that it hadn't changed since they'd been there last, years before.
"Hey Marth," Little Mac greeted as he and Ryu approached the couple.
Roy smiled, realizing that Little Mac had grown taller. "You're not so "little" anymore, huh?" Roy teased.
Little Mac chuckled. "Yeah…growth spurt," he joked.
Ryu laughed as he held Little Mac close, kissing him on the cheek. By comparing their heights, it looked like Little Mac was now taller than Ryu.
When Marth and Roy walked through the Living Room, they saw Kali and Kei playing. The King and his spouse looked at each other and smiled.
"Perhaps we should let Anri and Sophie play with them?" Marth asked.
Roy nodded. "As long as they don't knock anything over," he joked.
Marth laughed as he and Roy placed their children on the ground. Anri wobbled over to the two girls playing in the center of the room. Kei took notice, and she smiled at him.
Without a word (they were toddlers after all), Kei gave Anri the ball, and the small boy stared at it. With a big grin on his face, he threw the ball at Kei. The girl caught it, and then threw it at Sophie. Sophie giggled as she caught the ball before throwing it at Kali.
Marth smiled at the children getting along as Ryu spoke, "Kei is very friendly to other children."
Marth nodded. "I can see that."
Roy could smell the food in the Smasherteria, and he could feel his mouth watering. "Mmm, smells like Thanksgiving!" Roy commented.
"I know, right?" Little Mac agreed. "I'm starving! As long as Kirby or Yoshi don't try to eat it all."
The four men laughed.
"So, uh…" Marth tried to speak, as he looked around the Mansion. Memories flooded his mind: the first time he and Roy met here in the Melee tournament, meeting other Smashers, fighting in matches…
"Is something wrong, Marth?"
Marth snapped out of his reminiscing when he turned to Roy. The King nodded. "Yes. I'm all right. I'm just thinking about all the times we spent in here."
Roy nodded. "Oh yes, it does bring back memories. It's been years since we came here, too."
That was when they heard a bell ringing. Shulk and Lucina came into the Smasherteria, with plates of Thanksgiving food on a moving tray. One of the main food items that completed the feast was a large turkey, stuffed and with greens around it.
Marth felt his mouth watering as he stared at the food: mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and many more, made his stomach rumble.
"Ready for the feast?!" Lucina cried out.
All of the Smashers and the children roared with happiness.
Marth and Roy turned to each other and smiled. "Looks like it's time to eat!" Marth cried with excitement.
Roy nodded with a smile on his face. "Oh yes! I'm starving!"
Little Mac turned his head to face Ryu. "Now, remember Ryu—"
"Don't eat like a pig; it's not like home where I could stuff my face," Ryu finished for him.
Little Mac chuckled. "Good. Don't want you to embarrass yourself."
All of the Smashers and their children ran to their seats, and Lucina and Shulk served out the food.
Marth watched as Shulk placed a large piece of pumpkin pie in front of him, as Roy was given a large turkey leg and mashed potatoes. Their children watched as they were given smaller servings of food.
Anri grinned as he grabbed a piece of turkey, and he chowed down. Sophie, knowing that she was a little girl, ate her food slowly.
Marth and Roy turned to their children, smiling.
"They seem to be enjoying the feast," Marth said with a chuckle.
Roy nodded. "Oh, yes. Anri sure loves meat."
Ryu and Little Mac began to eat their food, Kei giggled as she shoveled the mashed potatoes in her mouth.
"Slow down, Kei," Ryu reminded her. "You're a little girl. Girls are supposed to eat like a lady."
Kei nodded as she began to eat her food slower.
Shulk and Lucina munched on their dinner as Kali grabbed a piece of her meat and ran around the Smasherteria. Shulk watched their daughter, laughing.
"She's so cute, huh Lucy?" Shulk asked.
Lucina nodded. "Oh yes, she seems to enjoy herself."
The feast was a loud and enjoyable time as everyone ate their meals. Marth and Roy chatted with Ryu and Little Mac, talking about how their lives have been since the fourth tournament, their children, and so on.
After a while, the Smashers and the children were done with the large feast.
"Man, I'm stuffed!"
"I'm getting sleepy…"
"Me too!"
Marth and Roy smiled as they watched Anri stretching and yawning. Sophie placed her hand over her mouth as she yawned as well.
Marth chuckled as he picked up Anri, and Roy picked up Sophie.
"Time for bed, I guess," Marth said.
Ryu and Little Mac nodded as Ryu picked up Kei, and Shulk and Lucina picked up Kali.
"It is getting late," Ryu said.
The couples then brought their children to their rooms, and they tucked the children into bed.
Marth kissed Sophie as Roy kissed Anri. "Good night, children," Marth whispered as he turned to face Roy with a smile.
Roy placed a hand on Marth's shoulder, also grinning. With that, the two walked out of what was once their room.
The couple would never forget this Thanksgiving.
