Spitting Distance

Shepard and her team were getting closer and closer to one of the most important moments that would probably happen in this galaxy. Jason was with them in the Mako, as they were slowly driving through a straight hallway. Its walls were entirely made of Prothean stasis pod containers and there were plants growing everywhere since there was no ceiling.

He knew that literally everyone's lives depended on them getting to the Conduit, and then to the Citadel to nail Saren.

But he still couldn't help but feel extremely bored. Jason blankly looked at Garrus and Tali, who were constantly fidgeting.

"I wonder how many stasis pods there are?" Shepard suddenly asked from the driver's seat.

"There could be hundreds," Tali answered

"Maybe even thousands. I keep seeing these other, branching hallways also filled with the same pods," Garrus said.

Jason slightly perked up, suddenly remembering something.

"Hey guys. Isn't it weird that there have been no traps at all yet?"

Then the Mako suddenly came to a full stop.

"We're trapped here!" Shepard suddenly yelled.

Garrus immediately opened the door and jumped out.

"Damn, she's right. We've got barrier curtains on both sides."

Tali got out of the Mako after him, and Jason, as if suddenly shaken awake, scrambles after them.

Jason runs to the other side of the Mako, and then points his finger at an elevator.

"Shepard? We got something over there. Should we check it out?"

Shepard approached the door, and then sighed.

"Alright, but let's do this fast. We need to get to Saren."

Shepard opened the door, and everyone got into the elevator. It started descending slowly. They looked out of the windows, only to see the same stasis pods they've been seeing this entire time.

Shepard heard something beating in the distance, but couldn't be sure if it was some device in the long-dead Prothean facility, her nerves or just her heart doing it's work.

When the elevator came to a stop, and the door opened, everyone immediately walked out onto a catwalk. There was a holographic object on the other side of it. They slowly advanced, expecting something bad to happen.

"Greetings. I am Vigil." The hologram suddenly said.

Jason already knew where this was going, and simply waddled over to the railing, putting his hands on it, and completely tuned out the conversation.

He got very bored, very fast, and started wondering how deep the abyss they were standing above could be.

Jason then collected all his saliva into a ball, and spit it out. He watched it fall down into the darkness.

Then Vigil spazzed out.

"If you hurry, you might be able to catch the one you call Sar- Warning! Mainframe damage detected. Attacker identified!"

Everyone immediately stepped away from Vigil.

"Vigil? What happened?" Shepard asked fearfully.

She didn't get an answer, but Jason did. Vigil collected all it's remaining power, and then zapped him with it.

Jason fell down. Part of his armor's chestplate was fused to his flesh, and it was smoking.

"Warning, power reserves depleted. Systems shutting down." The hologram dissapeared.

Shepard stared at Jason. "Wait, what did he do again?"

Tali facepalmed before answering. "For some obscure reason, he spat his saliva down there. It probably short-circuited something, or maybe Vigil took it as an attempt to damage it."

Garrus looked back at the elevator, and then asked Shepard. "Hey, maybe the barriers are down now?"

Shepard only nodded, and ran a quick scan on Jason with her omni-tool. Life-signs came up negative.

"Welp. No time for a funeral. Let's go!"

And I am back with the next Chapter of my story. I've also noticed that I've got quite a sizable amount of followers right now. I honestly never expected to get 10, let alone over 20 followers and/or favorites on this story! Apparently people love seeing SI-s bite the dust. And we're also getting closer the end of the first Mass Effect! It won't mean the end of this story, because I'm steam-rolling right through all of them, straight to the end of it.

Now that that's all been said, I will see you in the next Chapter!
