Sorry this hadn't been updated for a long time! But now that I'm into Marth x Roy again (thanks, ManaketeSmoocher for investing me into my number 1 OTP again XD), I decided to continue this!
Anyway...ENJOY!
43. Dinner Date
Marth was taken by surprised when Roy sent a letter to him, inviting him over to Pherae for a "date". Even though Marth wrote back saying he was too busy, Roy insisted that he should come over to take a break from his kingly duties to enjoy a nice, hot meal for once. Marth couldn't resist saying yes to both Roy and to the food that Roy described. He admittedly hadn't eaten a good meal in weeks due to working hard.
The two had only been dating for two months, and although both of their countries didn't approve of their sexualities, they finally accepted that was the way they were. Marth was so happy to have Roy—his best friend since childhood—in his life. The Hero King had fallen in love with the Marquess of Pherae after the two wars they went through together, and he wouldn't want it any other way.
When Marth's carriage had finally approached Roy's castle, the first thing he smelt was cooked fish. The King's mouth watered, realizing that Roy or one of his maids had cooked his favorite food just for him. His stomach growled, and when the carriage stopped near the entrance of Roy's castle, Marth got out and entered the large castle. Inside, Roy waited, an apron on him, which Marth assumed that the Marquess had cooked the dinner.
"Welcome, Marth," Roy greeted, and he held his arms out to gesture Marth into a hug. Marth took the chance to hold Roy in his arms, kissing him on top of his head.
"Hello, Roy," Marth greeted back, ruffling his lover's red hair. Looking down at Roy's current outfit, he chuckled. "Did you forget to take that apron off?"
Roy raised an eyebrow before he looked down at himself. To his embarrassment, he indeed forgot to take off the apron. With a chuckle of his own, he untied the back and took it off, revealing the fancy suit he was wearing. Marth laughed upon seeing what Roy was wearing underneath the apron.
"You don't have to look so fancy for me," Marth reminded him.
"I know, but it's a date," Roy said, looking up at Marth's sapphire eyes and smiling. Those eyes of Marth's were downright gorgeous; fitting for a King.
Roy gestured the King to the dining room, and when they arrived, Marth's mouth watered when he saw the food sitting on the long table: fish, turkey, corn, beans, and many other types of food sat there. Marth felt overwhelmed from all the food sitting on the table, and he couldn't decide which one he wanted to try first.
"Roy..." Marth gasped. "You made all of this? By yourself?"
Roy hummed as he nodded. "Yup! I made sure that the food is delicious for you."
"Roy...that's so sweet of you," Marth said before hugging Roy. "I never knew you're amazing at cooking. All this food makes me want to eat it all!"
"Well, shall we?" Roy said, pulling out a chair for Marth. Marth laughed softly as he settled himself on the chair, and Roy sat beside him. Marth stared at the food that was in front of him, not sure which type he wanted to grab and eat.
"Which one do you want to try?" Roy asked, his smile plastered on his face as he stared at Marth's twinkling eyes. To Roy, Marth was acting like a kid in a huge candy store.
Marth hummed as his eyes glanced over each and every food item. The one he decided was a bowl of cooked beans. "Those beans look delectable," Marth commented.
Roy nodded as he got up to grab the large spoon from the bowl. Scooping the beans, he placed them in Marth's plate. "Give them a try!"
"I shall, my love," Marth spoke before kissing Roy on the cheek. He grabbed his spoon and began eating the beans. Although they were spicy, the beans were so well cooked to his taste buds that Marth felt like he was in food heaven. In fact, he was enjoying them so much, he didn't realize that there was almost none left on his plate.
Roy laughed. "You seem to enjoy them," he commented.
Marth looked down at the plate, his eyes widened upon realizing that he quickly ate all the beans. His face turned a bright red before laughing alongside Roy. "I didn't notice that I've been eating them that quick...my apologies for my table manners, Roy."
"It's fine," Roy accepted his apology. "I'd do the same if I tasted those beans."
Marth then chose the corn on the cob for his next course. Roy grabbed one, buttering them and salting them before he handed it to Marth.
Marth took a large bite of it, and the buttery and salty corn taste hit his mouth. The King groaned, enjoying the cooked vegetable as he munched on the corn.
Roy watched his boyfriend enjoying the second course, smiling. The Marquess had tried so hard to cook all this food for Marth, and from Marth's reactions and his groaning, he felt his cooking was a success.
"Now...the main course," Roy said as he grabbed a plate of cut, smoked fish and he placed it in front of Marth. "Your favorite: fish."
Marth immediately began eating the fish, enjoying each and every bite of his favorite food. Roy watched him devour the food, a wide smile on his face. Knowing Marth since childhood, he'd figure that smoked fish would be something he'd like. The King only tried fried and baked fish, so he most likely never tried smoked. By the looks of Marth's face as he ate his food up, he seemed to enjoy it.
The moment he turned his head to glance at something for a brief second, he heard a choking sound beside him, and Roy turned to see Marth holding his neck, coughing and choking. Apparently, a small piece of the fish was lodged in his throat, and now the King couldn't breath.
Roy immediately took action as he got behind Marth. Standing the choking King up, he used the Heimlich maneuver to hopefully get the small piece of food out of Marth.
After a few pushes on Marth, Marth hacked out the piece of fish from his throat, and it flew to the other side of the table. Panting and catching his breath, he turned to Roy. Before Roy could even ask if he was all right, Marth hugged him tightly.
"Roy!" Marth cried. "You saved my life...thank you."
Roy grinned, returning the hug to Marth. "Hey, it's nothing. Just eat a bit slower next time."
Marth chuckled as he let his lover go. He cleared his throat, trying to get rid of the soreness there.
"Do you need water?" Roy asked.
Marth nodded to Roy's question, and Roy grabbed a large pitcher full of water and poured it in a glass cup. He handed it to Marth, and the King greedily drank it, feeling the soreness from his throat go away somewhat.
"If you're up for it..." Roy offered. "Do you want some dessert?"
Marth placed his cup down, and turning to face Roy, he nodded. "What kind of dessert do you have?"
Roy grinned as he grabbed a pie that sat in the middle of the table. "Pherae's famous apple pie. I remember when we picked those apples years ago where you tried and loved the apple pie."
The Marquess then cut one piece of the pie, and he placed it in front of Marth. Marth, not wanting to risk choking again, ate the piece slowly. The sweet apple and the sugary taste made the King groan in delight as he continued to eat the dessert.
Roy eventually joined him in eating dinner and dessert, trying out green peas, turkey, mashed potatoes, and a slice of chocolate cake. The two talked about meaningless things, from the night's weather to how they were doing with their countries. Clearly, Marth enjoyed spending time with Roy via having a dinner date, and Roy felt the same spending that time with his boyfriend.
After eating another slice of apple pie, Marth felt like he couldn't eat another bite. Getting up from his seat, he complimented, "Roy, that was delicious and enjoyable. Thank you for inviting me over for this date."
Roy chuckled before he hugged the King, kissing him on the cheek. "No problem. Glad you came over tonight."
"Anyway..." Marth said as he grabbed his things. "I must return to Altea—"
"Actually," Roy interrupted. "Would you like to stay tonight? The travel from Altea to Pherae must be tiring on you..."
Marth raised an eyebrow, and he then placed his hand on his chin, as if in deep thought. He appreciated Roy's offer, but his kingdom needed him now. "Roy...I need to work tomorrow. I can't just leave my kingdom unattended."
"Marth, you've been working hard the last few weeks," Roy insisted. "You should rest for the night. I'm sure you didn't get a wink of sleep since you were crowned King."
Marth frowned, realizing that Roy had a good point. Perhaps for just one night, he could get rested up before he returned to Altea. With his frown turning into a smile, he embraced his lover again. "Thank you, Roy. I accept."
"Great!" Roy cried. "I have an extra bed in my room. You can sleep there."
With that, Marth and Roy entered the Marquess' room, and they settled for bed. With a kiss on Roy's forehead, Marth whispered, "Good night Roy."
"Good night, Marth. Sweet dreams."
The two slept well that night, and Marth never forgot Roy's kindness and the delicious food he made for him. He hoped they could have another "dinner date" again sometime soon.
Constructive criticism is welcomed!
