This is something that ManaketeSmoocher and I talked about and laughed about. Originally I wanted the dynamic duo to adopt their kids in the boring way, but after talking to MS, I feel that this idea was more interesting and funnier. XD
So for ManaketeSmoocher, here's Children!
45. Children
Marth knew that announcing that he and his husband, Roy, wanted to adopt a child was a terrible idea. When he opened the door that led to the front yard of the castle, he saw about twenty babies in baskets, each of them blanketed in either blue or pink covers, sitting in front of the door. Some of the infants were crying, tears and mucus falling down their faces, as the others simply stared up at the Hero King with curious eyes.
He wanted to facepalm at himself, even asking the Gods above "I didn't ask for this." Apparently, about everyone in the kingdom gave up their children just so that he and Roy could adopt them. Though he didn't know why they would do that—either to flaunt that their kid became royalty or just to get rid of the babies for various reasons.
"ROY!" Marth called into the castle, and as soon as he called, Roy ran outside.
Though when he saw the number of babies at their doorstep, his eyes widened and he turned to Marth. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!" he shouted, to which some of the babies began crying thanks to his loud volume. "I know that we wanted to adopt a child, but… this is ridiculous!"
"I didn't do anything!" Marth defended. "All I did was announce to the kingdom that we wanted to adopt a baby, and this is the result!"
"Did you even expect this to happen?!"
"No! I didn't even ask for this!"
Roy sighed annoyingly, shaking his head. Sometimes, Marth doesn't think things through, and awkward situations like this happened—one of the very few flaws that Roy disliked about Marth.
"So what are we going to do with all these babies?" Roy asked.
"I… don't know, honestly," Marth gulped. "We can't just adopt all of them..."
As soon as he said that, Jeigan cleared his throat behind the two, and when the Kings turned to face him, Marth's eyes widened upon seeing Jeigan holding yet another basket holding a baby.
"Sires," Jeigan spoke in his usual gruff voice. "A woman wants to drop this baby off for you."
"..."
"..."
Roy turned to face Marth, but the Hero King didn't bother to look back—he knew that Roy was glaring at him for making this mess. He had to fix this somehow…
He shook his head at Jeigan. "Forgive my rudeness, Jeigan," Marth spoke. "But I can't accept any more babies."
"Why is that, Sire—" When he glanced behind Marth's shoulder and saw the babies at the doorstep, he paused, as he too was struck in silence. Glancing down at the baby in his arms, then at the two Kings, he sighed. "We cannot just leave them here, orphaned. We must bring them back to their original parents."
"But how?" Roy asked, an eyebrow raised. Their kingdom was massive, therefore it would be difficult to find the rightful parents of these twenty-something babies.
"I took notes of the original parents who had come to this castle," Jeigan said. "I shall list them for you if you wish to bring the babies back to their parents."
"Thank you, Jeigan," Marth bowed to his oldest guard. Even though he thanked the Gods for Jeigan's surprisingly long-term memory, he figured that bringing the babies back would be a chore. And he was not looking forward to it.
It only took a few days to bring the children back to their original parents, but the three had trouble looking for two babies' parents. Both of them were apparently siblings (at least Marth thought so, since the three couldn't find both of their parents anywhere). One of them, a girl who had a tuft of brown hair on her head, had been crying constantly as the trio looked for her parents with no success. In fact, she cried so much that Marth and Roy couldn't figure out if she was hungry, needed to be changed, or anything else.
The other baby, a boy with a tuft of blue hair on his head, had been babbling so much that Roy's ears were beginning to ring. For an infant who had no idea how to talk, this little boy sure loved to speak. And if Marth got too close to the boy, he would grab a fistful of Marth's long hair and tug. Hard. It got to the point where Marth had to give the boy to Roy, so that he wouldn't keep on pulling his hair, or worse, pull it off of his scalp. Granted, the boy was an infant, but Marth didn't want to risk it.
To their disappointment, the parents were nowhere to be found.
"Forgive me for not finding the youngsters' parents, Sires," Jeigan narrowed his eyes in disappointment. "I thought that I had—"
"Do not worry about it, Jeigan," Marth spoke. "If anything… we DID want to adopt a child. So I think we could keep them."
Roy glanced at Marth, his mouth gaping open, as if Marth suggested that they should kill the babies. "Are you serious? What if—"
"I'll let everyone know to not give up their babies to us. Jeigan?"
"Yes, Sire." Jeigan bowed before he left the room. Marth held the baby girl in his arms, and since the whole fiasco had ended, the little girl was fast asleep. The boy in Roy's arms tried to reach for Roy's much shorter, red hair, babbling as always.
As the two stared at the infants, Roy couldn't help but smile. "I guess… we made the right choice?"
"Yes," Marth chuckled. "Besides, they're so cute."
Roy glanced down at the boy, who was still trying to reach for Roy's hair, as if he didn't understand why he couldn't grab his hair when he could with Marth's. Roy chuckled as he rocked the baby gently, humming a soothing tune.
"What should we name them?" Marth asked.
Roy looked up at his husband, and frowned. During the whole baby fiasco, he didn't even bother thinking of a name for these two, as he thought that they would be given back. Now, however, he began racking his mind to think of a name for the boy. But each and every name he thought of were either too strong, or too stupid in his opinion.
He couldn't. He looked up at Marth and his frown intensified. "What do you think we should name the boy?" he asked.
"I think…" Marth spoke. "We should name him Anri."
"Anri?" Roy questioned. "Like your ancestor?"
"Yes," Marth nodded. "He does have blue hair, like mine."
Roy chuckled as he glanced down at the baby boy now named Anri. Apparently, Anri seemed to love the name as he reached out both of his hands to Roy.
"And the girl?" Marth asked.
"Hmm..." Roy hummed, as he looked at the baby girl in Marth's arms, and he was once again racking his mind to think of a name for her. Granted, he couldn't remember ancestors of his own besides his father and his deceased grandfather, but he wanted to name her something after someone in his family tree. However, he had nothing, but instead:
"How about Sophie?"
Marth's smile grew wide when Roy suggested this as he stared down at the girl napping in his arms. "That sounds like an adorable name."
"I agree," Roy chuckled. "Though that's the only thing I could think of..."
"That's fine. I love the name."
With that, the two stared down at their two adopted children, as both of them couldn't help but let out a simultaneous "awwwww" when the two babies snored. Even though the mess Marth made was a hard chore, they were rewarded with two blessings in their lives. And they didn't want it any other way.
