Chapter 30: Happy Birthday Emily!
Emily POV
I convince my parents to let Maya pick me up at the airport. I'm surprised it was so easy to sway them but then again they're being kind of mysterious and weird. My dad will be home after my birthday but before Christmas and my mom had to cover for someone at work. I'm traveling alone because Alison will be traveling with her family tomorrow arriving just in time for my birthday. I miss my friends so much and we're finally going to all be together! I also get to see my friends from the swim team as well. This is going to be a great birthday! I can't wait!
I took an early flight at 7:30am so I could spend as much time with Maya, just the two of us. I'll be arriving at 4:30pm after the time change is accounted for. And luckily for me, there were no delays. The plane lands and it feels like forever before I can disembark, find my luggage and make my way out to the line of cars waiting to pick up family, friends, co-workers, boyfriends and girlfriends. I search and search for Maya's blue convertible but then I realize its winter so she's probably driving something else. And yep, I was right! There she is waving me over next to Spencer's Highlander! I rush towards her with suitcase and carry-on in tow!
When I finally reach her, I drop my bags and hug her and kiss her out in the open! I just don't care who sees us anymore! It's the most natural thing in the world to kiss the one you love!
I didn't bring a winter coat with me so I'm shivering in the cold December air. We quickly get my things in Spencer's car and drive away to Rosewood.
"I missed you baby," she says reaching over the console to squeeze my knee.
"I missed you too," I take her hand in mine holding it for as long as she can drive with one hand.
"Well, you look like you got some sun. Do you have any tan lines?" She cocks an eyebrow removing her hand from mine, slipping her finger into the collar of my t-shirt pulling it down.
"Maya!" I push her hand away. "You'll have plenty of opportunities to find out when we get home."
"Will I?" She winks and I sink into my seat. "Ya know I'm going to take full advantage of all the alone time that comes our way," her mouth hangs open for a split second. Oh so sexy!
"Yeah, about that."
"About what?" Her eyes try to concentrate on the road.
"Umm, I did something really stupid and I know you're going to laugh at me."
"What do you mean?" she glances at me before returning her focus to the traffic ahead.
"I know you want to have sex."
"And you do too, don't you?"
"I do but—"
"But what Emily?"
"I don't have the experience that you do."
"We've already talked about this. Emily, it's just as fun to learn," her hand finds mine again.
"Well, I wanted to know more so I asked Dani and Malena to help me."
She swerves just a bit taking control of the wheel with both hands, "What do you mean by that?" she asks through gritted teeth.
"They showed me what to do."
"Emily, I swear to god this better not end with me no longer being your first!"
"No, oh god no, it's nothing like that."
"Emily, hold on," she pulls into a rest area. "I can't listen to this while I'm driving."
She puts the car in park leaving it running so we don't freeze.
"They showed me what to do on a teddy bear."
"A what! A cute, cuddly bear!" She laughs.
"Maya, I know, but the visual helped," I lower my voice, "and so did the videos."
"Did you say videos? You watched porn in your dorm! Emily, you could get suspended for that."
"Well, I didn't watch for long. You see they told me to bite into a peach so I would know what it feels like."
"They compared pussy to a peach?" She has this 'oh my god' look on her face.
"Yes and there was a Snapple bottle too."
"A Snapple bottle? You don't need to open your mouth that wide Emily."
I furrow my brow in confusion and then I realize what she means.

Maya puts her hands over her face trying desperately not to laugh.
"Emily, you need to forget everything they were trying to show you. I get they meant well but the real thing is so much better and so much more enjoyable."

She takes off her gloves and cups my face in her hands, "Baby, I'll teach you everything."
I can't even reply because she has her lips on mine. She tugs at her seatbelt to release her so she can lean closer to me. Her mouth misses mine so much and mine misses hers even more! I unbuckle my seatbelt too. We're all over each other!
"Emily," she says against my lips, and then kisses to my earlobe whispering, "It's gonna be just you and me. No thoughts of fruit or Snapple or teddy bears," she giggles. And then she looks into my eyes and says, "I love you. I will teach you. What you need is hands on experience and I am more than happy to give that to you," she kisses the tip of my nose and I blush again.
"I'd like that. I want you to teach me. And I love you so much more for saying that."
"Baby, your birthday is going to be all about receiving. The giving will come later and only when you're ready."
Before I can respond, she's kissing me again sweetly and then turning it up a notch and I think I'd let her fuck me right here if she wanted to!
But then there's a knock on our steamed up windows.
"Oh shit!"
Maya rolls hers down and a light shines inside. It's a cop! Shit!
"Is everything all right in there?"
"Yeah, we were just warming up." I can't believe she just said that to a cop!
"Well, I think you need to warm up inside or be on your way."
"Yes sir, we'll be on our way. Thank you sir," Maya waits for the cop to back away then rolls up her window and drives us to my house.
When we get there the outside lights are on but no one's home. I text my mom to let her know we're here and she lets me know she'll be home by eight. This gives me and Maya a couple hours to catch up…
"Is everything good with your mom?"
"Yep, she'll be home around eight."
"Eight," she eye sexes me.
"Maya."
I close the door but before I can lock it she grabs me and kisses me with wild abandon!
Her coat and gloves come off and my sweater hits the floor. We trip over my things as she topples me onto the couch. Her cold hands sneak up my shirt sending shivers throughout my body. She's kicking her boots off while I'm kicking my shoes off.
"I need to feel something Emily, please."
"I want you to, too."
She tilts her head as I sit up forcing her to straddle me. I lift my shirt over my head, her eyes get as big as saucers and she lifts her shirt off as well. My mom won't be home for hours so I sneak my hands behind my back unclasping my bra. I swear Maya's eyes glow green like a cat as she makes this purring sound. I lean back on the pillows. Her hands start at my waist and smooth over my sides to just under my breasts.
"Hmm, no tan lines. Are you going topless to the beach?"
"No. I was too busy sending my girlfriend sexy pictures of me in my uniform."
She raises an eyebrow.
"Good."
Her thumbs caress my nipples. I close my eyes and arch my back. And then she rolls them between her thumb and forefinger. Oh god that feels so good!
But when she stops I open my eyes. She's taking off her bra and I'm watching attentively. I put them in my hands before she even uncovers herself. "Emily! You're home! Why didn't you call us?"
She busts into the living room with Maya half-naked on top of half-naked me!
"Hanna!"
"Oh shit! Were you two just gonna—bow chicka wow wow!"
"Hanna, turn around!" I scream!
I'm so embarrassed! Maya and I quickly get dressed.
"Geez Hanna your timing sucks!" Maya sounds incredibly annoyed!
"I'm sorry guys! I knew you were coming home today but I didn't know you were gonna get to it as soon as you got home."
"Hanna, it's fine. It was obviously not meant to be," Maya says and I look at her like what do you mean? "Em, the universe has a different plan for us, a better plan," she kisses me and I melt away. God, she always knows exactly what to say! I love her so much!
"Better than that! Damn Maya, I think I wanna fuck you!"
"Hanna!" I screech cuz that's not funny to me!
"Can I turn back around now?"
"Yes," I say.
"Emily, I'm just kidding. But I have to admit you're one lucky gal. There aren't too many girls who would wait for you like Maya did and it sure wasn't easy for her," Hanna's hand quickly covers her mouth like oh shit I didn't mean to say that out loud.
Maya's eyes open wide like she's silently telling Hanna to shut the fuck up.
"What do you mean it wasn't easy for you?" I look into those wide eyes.
"Look, Em, you know I like being close to another person. I was just really missing you and saying things out loud I shouldn't have said," she stares Hanna down.
"Emily, Maya was the perfect girlfriend. I promise you that."
I give a closed mouth smile. Maya lifts my chin with her index finger kissing my lips. And that kiss makes it all go away. I just wish Hanna hadn't interrupted us cuz now I feel pressure to sleep with her so she won't sleep with anyone else…
Hanna helps me and Maya unpack my stuff and we order a pizza. Spencer joins us and it feels like the night of the sleepover at the Hastings' barn except this time any kissing can be done out in the open without any fear of anyone finding out my secret. I don't have to live with the worry of coming out and it feels really amazing! But I have to admit there's at least one person I wouldn't mind not running into—Paige McCullers. I know Spencer invited everyone on the swim team to my party I just hope she doesn't show up. I mean, why would she?
The Hastings' Lake House…
Hanna POV
"Spencer where are you?" I say into my cell phone.
"What are you talking about?"
"I just decorated this whole place all by myself because you didn't show up."
"Why would I? We're supposed to decorate tomorrow."
"Tomorrow? If we decorated tomorrow then there would be no decorations at Emily's party."
"Hanna, didn't you get my message telling you to send a text to Emily's friends changing the party to Sunday night?"
"Why the hell would I do that?"
"Because Maya wanted to surprise Emily with a romantic dinner on her actual birthday!"
"Oopsie."
"Oopsie! Hanna! We have to tell everyone not to come!"
"It's too late for that Spencer. I recruited a bunch of the swim team members to pick up the food. They started grilling outside already. I have the cake coming and the keg."
"Keg! Who said anything about a keg party!"
"Geez Spencer if you wanted a tea party why didn't you just say so!"
"I didn't think I had to. Shit. I'm supposed to go up there in an hour to set the mood for her intimate dinner with Emily. Someone needs to give Maya a heads up."
"Someone needs to get up here now and help us. Spencer, you better hurry!"
"Fine. I need to get ready. I'll be there in forty minutes."
"You better cuz Maya's bringing Emily at eight."
"At least you got that part right."
"Hey now. There's nothing we can do about it. Just get here already."
"I know. I know. Look, I don't see Maya's car in the driveway so can you start texting her about the mix up while I get ready?"
"Yeah, sure," we hang up our phones.
"Hey Hanna, we need more propane for the grill!" Jess from the swim team yells to me.
"I'll have to get some. Anyone wanna come with?"
"Sure, I will."
"Caleb! Oh my god! I didn't think you were gonna make it," I rush over to him giving him a big hug and kiss.
"You didn't think I'd miss Emily's birthday and Christmas with my girl now did you?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Now what's this about needing propane?"
"Can you take me to the store to get some?"
"Sure, it's probably the only alone time I'm gonna get with you tonight anyway," he smiles.
"Maybe, maybe not," I wink.
We leave for the store but I have a sneaking suspicion I'm forgetting to do something…
An hour later…
"Spencer, finally you're here!"
"Well, I have to admit the house looks great but poor Maya, her romantic evening's going to be ruined."
"Oh shit."
"Oh shit what?"
"Caleb surprised me right when I was going to text Maya."
"What do you mean when you were going to…"
"I sort of forgot."
"Hanna! Oh my god! We have to warn her!"
"Well, stop yelling at me and start calling! I'll text her."
"She's not answering my call."
"And she's not texting back."
"Damn it!"
"Spencer just, it's whatever now. All Emily's friends and their boyfriends and girlfriends are here and she's gonna be so happy either way."
"I guess so. I'm just worried about what Maya might do."
"Might do?"
"This was supposed to be about her and Emily finally being together. Maya's waited a long time and now she's gonna have to wait even longer."
"But she loves Emily. She's not going to hurt her."
"Not purposefully."
"What do you mean?"
"Emily's attention is going to be everywhere but with Maya."
"That worries you?"
"No, but there's alcohol everywhere, that's what worries me."
"Maya wouldn't ruin this for Emily."
"You're right. Maya's a gem. I'm sorry Hanna. I just hope she's not overly disappointed about sharing her tonight."
"Yeah, me too."
"Hey guys! Is Emily here yet?"
"Alison, I'm so glad you could be here," Spencer is grateful for the distraction.
"I wouldn't miss it, you know that."
"So, how's California treating you?" I ask.
"It's amazing but even more so with Emily there."
"How's she holding up?"
"Good but I know she misses Maya tons. Are they here yet?"
"No, but they will be soon."
I look at Spencer and we brace ourselves for an interesting evening ahead…
Maya POV
"So, you guys have been really secretive about where my party's going to be."
"Yes we have."
"Isn't this the road to Spencer's lake house?"
"It is."
"Oh my god, this is going to be incredible! I can't wait to see all my friends."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I miss them so much. I get to spend my birthday with everyone I care about especially you, Maya. And that makes me happier than you could ever imagine." Ohh.
"Well, would you be upset if it wasn't as huge a gathering as you were expecting?"
"Of course not. I know who my real friends are."
And to my surprise there are all her friends' cars. What the fuck.
"Wow! It looks like the whole school is here!"
I park farther back than I intended. This is not the plan.
"Maya," she wraps her arms around me. "This is the best birthday ever!" It is?
We walk into the lake house and everyone smothers Emily with birthday wishes and hugs squeezing me out of the circle. How did this get so effed up! This was supposed to be about me and Emily not me and Emily and a hundred of her closest friends!
I spy a red solo cup and help myself to the keg. I 'cheers' the air and our lost moment but then I see Emily. She's coming towards me.
She kisses me boldly, "I love you Maya. This is the most amazing present you could have given me!" Really, cuz I was thinking I was going to be giving you a different kind of amazing present.
"I'm happy you're happy."
"And Maya?"
"Yeah?"
"I can't wait to thank you for it—later," she bites her bottom lip and I'm me again.
The happiness in her eyes transfers to mine as she gets swept away by all of her guests. I watch her across the room laughing and smiling but all I can think about is that thank you…
