I AM SO SORRY ABOUT THAT LAST CHAPTER. BUT HERE'S THE SECOND UPDATE IN TWO NIGHTS.
I AM ON A ROLL.
HAVE FUN READING!
John returns to the hospital room where Sebastian is several hours later, face haggard and pale. He'd been sick, after seeing the video.
"He's gone."
Sherlock- real Sherlock- is gone.
Sebastian looks up as John enters, with one arm around Severin.
"What's up?"
"We've lost Sherlock...for good."
"What are you talking about?"
"Mycroft. He...he shot Mycroft."
Sebastian pales.
"He killed Mycroft?" He curses. "He has the fucking Devil whispering in his ear, of course he did, but I didn't expect things to go this fast." He lifts his gaze to John's. "You need to skip town. So does the inspector. Immediately."
John was shaking his head. There were too many people Sherlock would go after. If he was screwed up enough to murder his own brother in cold blood then what was to stop him going after Molly, Mrs Hudson or his own parents.
"Jim's severing his links with everyone from his 'old' life. There are too many people. We wouldn't be able to relocate them all quickly enough and even if we did, that won't stop Sherlock from tracking them down. "John sighs."We're going to have hold out and just make sure we're prepared."
Sebastian snorts.
"Prepare? You can't /prepare/, Watson. Not when Jim is involved. He's volatile. Unpredictable. He could have someone planting explosives around this fucking hospital right now and no one would be the wiser until afterwards. You can't prepare to defend yourself against something you can't predict."
"Well then what else can we do? We'd never get everyone out in time and together, they're practically unstoppable."
John rubbed his forehead; he could feel a migraine coming on.
Sebastian looks up at him, jaw slightly taut.
"You know the options, Watson. We can't leave. Can't prepare. If we can't find a solution, we have to eliminate the problem."
John shook his head, finally seeing what Sebastian was suggesting.
"We can't do that." He says simply.
"We don't have a choice!" Sebastian snapped. "We kill him or he'll kill us!"
John sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Can't we just get rid of Moriarty and... fix Sherlock?"
He can't imagine killing the man who was his best friend.
"There is no fixing Sherlock anymore. He's gone. Completely. The longer we wait, the more danger we're in." Sebastian looks into John's eyes again. "You act like this is what I want. Believe me; I'd rather do anything but this."
John gnaws on the inside of his cheek, fists clenching and unclenching uselessly.
"Then do it. But I can't- you're me on your own for this one," he says, walking quickly out.
He's not going to cry. Especially not in front of Moran.
He decides to visit Greg, down the hall. He opens the door to find the inspector sat up looking at a file with Donovan and Anderson. Sally looked up as he walked in.
"Heard you managed to doom the freak?"
John fought back the urge to punch her and turned his attention to Greg.
"That's what I want to discuss with you. Something's happened with Mycroft."
Greg's brow furrows and he sends Sally and Anderson out, frowning slightly at John.
"What happened?" he asks, setting the file in his lap.
John swallows, not quite sure how to tell him.
"He's...he's dead."
Greg goes pale instantly, mouth hung open in shock.
"Did Moriarty...?"
John shook his head slowly.
"Sherlock."
"Sh- Sherlock? Killed Mycroft?" He closes his eyes, jaw working. "How do you know?" he asks quietly.
"Moriarty, being the sadistic bastard he is, sent security footage which captured it all. I'll save the details. Shot him in the head."
John looks at the floor wringing his hands.
Greg nods slightly, the shaking of his hand just barely visible.
"Thank you. For telling me."
"But we have another problem. What to do about Sherlock. He's gone mad Greg. There's no fixing him and we can't get everyone out of London in time." John's mouth had gone dry. "Sebastian's suggesting we eliminate him from the equation."
Greg huffs slightly.
"I found him on the streets, you know. Drug house. Nearly dead and high as a kite. Guess I should have left him there." He looks up at John. "You know what he can do, John. Do what you need to."
John was so close to crying at the aspect of killing his best friend.
"I don't want to do what I have to Greg." His voice started breaking up.
Greg looks saddened as well, scrubbing a hand through his hair.
"Neither do I. I keep thinking this is all some fucked up nightmare."
"Sometimes I hope it is." John sighs and walks back to Sebastian's room. The sniper was still sat by his twin and had his head in his head in his hands. He was obviously deciding what to do.
Sebastian hardly glances up.
"You do realize that the entirety of London is about to go to shit and chaos, right?"
"Yeah, so if we are, as you so delicately put it, eliminate him from the equation, how are we going to even get anywhere near him?"
Sebastian sighs.
"We're going to have to set a trap."
"He'll find a way around it. You know it. Sherlock will, both of them will know what's happening."
John knew Sherlock was too smart to fall for something as easy as a trap.
Sebastian scowls.
"He's going to come, Watson. We have to try something."
"Okay then, how are we actually going to get him to come?"
"We don't need to do anything. He's coming regardless. We just have to be ready to act."
John lost it.
"Will you stop talking in bloody riddles and tell me what the hell is going on!"
He was fed up of Sebastian refusing to tell him something.
"You've got to be fucking ready to shoot him when he comes, Watson! Because he will, and if you don't kill him, he will kill you!"
"He wouldn't. He's still Sherlock! Let me speak to him when we find him. I can get through to him."
John was desperate to at least try and save his friend.
Sebastian glares.
"Watson. He just shot his own brother in cold blood, you don't think he'll shoot you? You're delusional."
"He and his brother never got on. We did. We're flatmates."
Sebastian rubbed his face and sighed.
"Like I said before. You act like I want this. I don't. I'd rather keep him alive, he's my friend. I don't want him dead or I would have already have killed him."
"Then why don't you even try to save him!"
He stands, stepping up toe to toe with John.
"Are you a fucking idiot? He can't be saved, John! He has the Devil in his ear, and in his mind! He's gone, John! Sherlock isn't who you knew anymore."
"This sort of thing doesn't happen this quickly! This is Sherlock Bloody Holmes! It's an act! It's all an act!"
Sebastian closes his eyes, shakes his head.
"John. You know he's unstable. Was even before. It's a genius thing. Jim's managed to tip the scales too far in the wrong direction."
John opened his mouth to argue back but Severin interrupted him. The twin sat up and rubbed his eyes. John tilted his head still trying to come to terms that he was the same age as Sebastian.
Severin blinks at them sleepily.
"Whatcha doin' Basher?" he asks sluggishly, yawning before scooting back a bit at the sight of John.
Sebastian put an arm around him.
"Don't sorry, Sevvy."
"Is it to do with Sherlock?" The slightly younger twin look frightened and close to tears. "What's happening Basher? I'm scared."
Sebastian sighs.
"Don't worry, Sevvy, there's nothing to worry about. No one's going to hurt you," he murmurs.
He looks at John. "We're going to take care of it."
John couldn't help but stare a little longer then he should have at the younger twin. He was so different. The two of them were hardly an hour apart yet if you mention Sherlock or Jim, Severin would pretty much run to Sebastian for protection. And considering what happened in the past that was surprising.
Sebastian notices the staring and he raises a brow, as if daring John to say something as he smoothes down Severin's hair.
"You should probably go now, Watson. Help prepare. I can't do much until we get cleared anyways."
"I guess." John quickly stops staring and gets up to leave. His best plan would probably be to get back to 221b and start from there. To at least get some people out of town before he found then.
Sebastian looks at him, for once the faintest flicker of concern showing for the other soldier.
"Be careful, Watson."
I hope you all enjoyed that :3 The next chapter may be up tonight depending on me.
