Chapter 2-His Hair
A muffled groan escaped my lips and I hurried to get to my aparetment, my fingers burning a bright red as the plastic bags pulled down on them. I had just been grocery shopping and left with five bags in my right hand and four in my left.
Life was hard.
"Here, let me help you." Gray said and swiftly took the five bags from my right, his sudden appearence giving me a shock in the process.
"What are you doing here?"
He shrugged; "It's too boring at the guild without being able to fight Natsu, so I came to see if he was at yours." He sighed and looked down at me, "I'm guessing he's not."
"No, he's out with Lisanna. They're doing some catching up or whatever." I snorted, my eyes quickly rolling.
Gray snickered from beside me and I looked over with a raised eybrow.
"Lucy Heartfillia, could you be, dare I say it, jelous of Lisanna?"
"What!? Why would you think that!? Of course I'm not!" I exclaimed.
"You're lying~" He mused, clearly taking joy out of my embarressing situation.
"No I'm not!" I insisted before my eyes narrowed on him. "And how would you know if I was anyway?"
He laughed again, like there was this big thing that he was in on and I wasn't.
"Everytime you tell a lie, your nose does a little twitch. That's why Gajeel called you 'Bunny Girl'"
I gasp, and if I had hands to spare, they would've been covering my nose now.
"W-well, I'm not lying. Lisanna's a very lovely girl, but I have nothing to be jelous of-"
"Natsu."
I froze for a split second before continuing. "What about him?"
"You're jelous that she's spending time with him and not you."
"That's obserd!"
"You don't deny it."
"It's not because of Natsu-"
"Your nose twitched again."
I let out a fustrated groan and aggressively shoved my key in the lock, all while Gray watched me with a smug grin.
"Get in." I said bitterly as I glared at him. He obeyed and came inside, but the cocky grin never left his stupid face.
Once we set the bags on the table and finished packing away the various foods and anything else that had been the bag, he hunched over the bench and looked at me intensely, his eyes seemingly figuring out my darkest secrets that I've tried so hard to keep hidden.
"So how long have you been jelous?" He questioned, becoming more relaxed and less serious.
"I don't know what you're talking about-"
"Lucy." His words were dangerous, close to a warning. I was close to screaming out in fustration and banged my head on the bench, laying out most of my upper body over the surface.
"Probably like a week after she came back..." I grumbled, my voice slightly muffled.
"A week?"
I took my head off the bench and look at him with an offending glare. "Fine! Around three days after."
He nodded, accepting her change of words and became quiet, his mind drifting else where for a moment.
"So now," he began, "all I have to do now is figure out why you're jelous."
"You don't 'have' to figure out anything! Is my buisness and not yours." I replied with a fierce glaze, though it didn't seem to worry him.
He ignored my attempt of looking threatening and continued; "But we're a team Lucy, your problems are my problems."
I rolled my eyes and started to walk away from the kitchen. "It's not a problem, Gray, it's just a thing." I mused and walked towards my bedroom.
"Then your things are my things!" The ice mage retorted and followed close behind.
Before he could come any closer, I shut my door on him and faintly heard a bang as he collided with the door.
"What are you and ice-freak talking about?"
I screamed in surprise and whipped around, my back hitting the door hard and my heart beating against my chest in heavy thumps. "Natsu! What are you doing here!?"
He shrugged and rests his head on the window frame. "You weren't at the guild so I came to make sure you're okay."
I straintened my posture and stalked towards my drawers, refusing to look at the pinkette. "I would've been a lot better without you scaring me like that."
"You should be used to it by now."
I shook my head and gathered some more comfortable clothes then turned to look at him. "Aren't you meant to be out with Lisanna?"
He jumped off the window sill and into my room, waking closer to me with large steps. "I went to her place to get her, but Elfman dragged her out on a mission."
"Oh, okay."
He came to a stop in front of me and studdied me, much like Gray had done only moments ago. "What were you talking about with Gray?" He asked again.
"N-nothing!" I stamered.
"But I heard you guys say my name, and then something about you having problems and something else about jelousy. So what's going on?"
Meaningless words left my mouth as I tried to come up with a believeable excuse. How could I forget about the all-mighty dragon slayers and their excellent hearing?
"Gray just thought that I was jelous about your hair." I blurted and cursed myself as soon as the words had left my mouth.
He raised his hand and trailed his fingers through his pink locks, his eyebrows furrowed in obvious confusion. "My hair."
"Yeah, your hair." I nodded. "Now would you please get out, I need to get dressed!" I said and shoved him towards the door.
I opened the door and pushed him out, but before I could close it, he put his foot in front of it and gave me some kind of look. "But why my hair?" He asked.
"I don't know, why don't you ask him." He nodded and walked away from my door to find the other boy and I finally shut my door with a heavy sigh.
What had I gotten myself into?
