Chapter 13: Real Japan

There were only three days before their first match starts and training finally started going along smoothly. Or as smoothly as possible who was told to get their shits together because their first game was three days away. And if they don't get their asses in gear, then they could kiss their dream of winning this tournament goodbye.

So here they were, doing another practice match against each other. It was actually doing pretty fine. Well, fine if you considered how Hyuuga-kun and Noriko-chan haven't done their fair share of screaming their heads off at each other (they still glared at each other though). It looked like they were making progress of trying to work together.

And please ignore Ayame's constant remarks of the reason why those two weren't fighting was because the moment they start to even say anything, she would glare at them (they were in her team this time and she did not want to deal with them). No, that wasn't the reason at all why they're not fighting. They're just finally acting like mature young adults who now understood what it means to be a team.

Besides, if they actually worked together, they make a pretty damn good combination. Noriko-chan's pinpoint accuracy and superb long passes usually finds Hyuuga-kun, which would them make it easier for them to find a chance to score a point since he would be left unmarked for a few seconds. Most of the other team's players were by their side of the field, trying to find a chance to score since they were deep in their territory, they forgot most of her team's forwards.

Yeah, once they get their acts together, they're a monster to beat.

It's not just them in their team too. Shiori-chan did great at assisting Hyuuga-kun with trying to get goals and trying to score her own. The straightforwardness and brashness of the Fierce Tiger masked the small and calculative plays Shiori-chan often makes, making it easier for them to find scoring chances. Hoshi-chan's nature of being an attention hog also helped them mask Shiori-chan's presence even more to make the other team believe that they only have two forwards, when they actually have three. Misaki-kun's great midfield senses helped her make decisive passes in order to take advantage of their teammates' abilities as well as help her do the game making. Yumi-chan being their team's defensive midfielder was a great help in defending their goal. Their defense was pretty solid too. With Noriko-chan in the center with Jito-kun, Matsuyama-kun on the left, and Takisugi-kun on the right, they easily helped Wakabayashi-kun in defending the goal post.

Too bad they couldn't get that many points considering who they were up against. She was sure that the coaches planned this. After all, it was better to have a wide range of possible team combinations to be fully prepared for the tournament.

Even if it meant that they would have to break up current combinations.

And to be perfectly honest, Ayame was a bitch to go up against. Especially when she's teamed up with Tsubasa of all people. Add Misugi-kun and Saya-chan in the mix then you have a recipe for people-who-should-be-put-in-a-team-together-as-midfielders-because-they-will-dominate-the-midfield. It was a miracle she, Misaki-kun, and Yumi-chan could keep up with those four demons. Like, whoever thought of that combination have no mercy to their opponents (she's willing to bet it was Nagasato-san who thought it. She's the only who's evil enough to do this).

And not even that. Nitta-kun and Sakura-chan are too damn fast and nimble across the field. It was hard trying to catch up to them! Their defense consisted of Soda-kun, Rie-chan, Ringo-chan, and Rika-chan who were all pain in the asses to get past through. And if you managed to get past through those four (it's barely possible), you have to deal with Wakashimazu-kun and his karate keeping.

It's a nightmare.

But at least, they didn't have to play a whole 90 minutes today. Something about giving them enough rest for the first round. She's not complaining. As long as she didn't have to go up against the four demons of the midfield far longer than necessary. It wasn't good for her sanity.

Coach Mikami blew the whistle to end their match and almost all of them breathed a sigh of relief. All of them probably hated that match for all the running that they had to do. Except Tsubasa, she was sure he was having the time of his life. It was a little baffling that in their 30 minutes of playing, no one even managed to score a goal.

Whatever, she was just happy she could take a rest.

She quickly went to the benches and grabbed her water bottle, eager to have a drink of the liquid.

"We should have totally won that," Ayame pouted from beside her, also getting a drink from her water. She rolled her eyes and continued to get a sip. Personally she couldn't care what the result of the match was.

"But you guys had an unfair advantage," Shiori-chan retorted with a huff. "I mean, four of the best midfielders in a team? How is that fair?"

"Okay, you guys had Hyuuga, Noriko, and Wakabayashi, you have no space to complain about this being unfair," Ayame countered after drinking.

"Well, you guys had Nitta-kun and Rika-chan so you have no right to complain," Ayame said. Shiori-chan puffed her cheeks and crossed her arms, readying to give her piece of mind. This was the point she started to ignore both of them and sat on the ground, mindlessly drinking her water.

She took this time to look over the field, observing as everyone was finally working together and having fun. Some of them were chatting and some were fooling around. There wasn't any animosity between them anymore, at least not that much. She didn't really know with Hyuuga-kun and Noriko-chan. But, hey what matters was that their team was finally a team.

Finally, she could see that how great their potential was.

She was absentmindedly smiling when all of the sudden she heard their two main coaches talking, arguing actually. It started off as hushed whispers between them, but it escalated to Natsukawa-san raising her voice really loudly.

"Minato, it's no use telling them to be here, and right now of all times!" she said. "And why did I just find out about this today? I should have known beforehand!"

"And I'm telling you that the kids would actually benefit if I brought them here," Gamo-san replied calmly, which was unusual since it was always the other way around. "They were originally for the boys but then everything happened but I still had them continue training for these moments."

"But we have three days, three days, until we start the first round! They can't just waltz in here and think that they can join the team when everything's finally in place."

By this point, everyone was looking at them worriedly. It's not every day their coaches disagreed on something and their topic was interesting. They kept on talking about a "they" but all of them have no idea who the two of them were talking about.

"Fine! But don't get the girls involved. I'm not letting you ruin their team balance."

"I'm not," Gamo-san said. Then, he mumbled, "I can't even if I wanted to. I couldn't find any more to go against them. The best are already gathered here."

They were still watching their coaches in confusion, wandering what exactly was going on with them.

"So this is the all Japan team? What a bunch of pansies," a voice reached their ears. They turned to where it came from and saw a bunch of guys up looking down on them.

"You already told them to come?" Natsukawa-san shrieked at Gamo-san, who refused to meet her eyes. "Minato, really?"

"I thought it was the right time," he answered. "They should be able to help them prepare for the first round."

"You-" Coach Kaede started, before she sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Do what you want." She turned to them and called. "Girls. Please leave the boys alone. They have some stuff to figure out. Anyway, training is over for you girls and you can do whatever you want today. Just be prepared for a workout tomorrow."

With that, she left the field muttering about getting a drink or something.

They stared at her retreating figure before someone cleared their throat.

"Are you sure that these guys are members of the Japanese team?" the same guy asked Coach Gamo, who with his group, apparently came closer when they weren't looking. "They don't seem that much."

Oh shit, he did not just insult them.

She could see Ayame narrow her eyes, ready to retort back, but for some reason, she clenched her mouth shut and crossed her arms.

"What?" Ishizaki-kun exclaimed, offended.

"Oh they have hearing problems too? Man, what kind of team is this?" Another person remarked.

"It's the team chosen to represent Japan," Coach Gamo warned them. She knew that there was something going on between them, but she didn't say anything because Natsukawa-san did say that to leave them alone.

"So you mean, they're the ones we're replacing?" The one who first spoke to him said with a smirk, his eyes roaming their team, but it was mostly focused on the boys.

Everyone suddenly tensed, and most of the boys started to voice their anger towards the claim. The girls all kept quiet, but they were observing these new guys. She glanced from the corner of her eyes to see Saya-chan's calculating gaze on the. Noriko-chan was judging them silently in her mind, and Yumi-chan pushed her glasses up, trying to get a better look on them. She didn't even have to see Ayame already assessing how their physical attributes will benefit the team.

And to be honest, Sanae didn't even them of being necessary to the team. They didn't look like people who could work with a team together.

"Shut up!" Coach Gamo ordered. Everyone stopped their complaints but they were still unhappy with the recent information.

It was also the time when she realized that Tsubasa wasn't in the area.

"It would have been nice to let me talk first to explain everything before everyone exploded," Coach told them.

"No need, Coach," the leader (he looked like it), interrupted. "We can do it. It's better to tell them straight up instead of sugar coating it to them."

"Hino," Coach Gamo growled, but he was ignored.

"As we said before, we don't think your worthy of being the representatives," he declared, "that's why we're here to take the spots from seven of you. Whoever loses in a 7 versus 7 will immediately leave the camp to be replaced by us."

The team was in another uproar, and she couldn't believe how gullible they all are. It was easy to tell that he was lying by the way he was smirking too amusingly.

Besides, they have a match in three days. If they replace people right now, they would have to rework everything from scratch. She was not going to go and relive those stupid fights all over again.

"What makes you think you can beat us?" Hyuuga-kun glared at Hino.

"Because I told them to," Coach Gamo answered, interrupting Hino from answering. "The truth is, Mikami told me to create a team that could go against the boys back when it was just the World Youth Tournament, but as we all know of what happened with him and the sudden change with FIFA, I had to leave them. Nevertheless I told them to continue their training."

He then smirked, "And let me tell you what my training for them. I can assure you that these people are the best of the best. I wouldn't even be surprised if they can replace some of you right now. They're on a whole 'nother level."

"A level you guys still can't reach," another one, a bald one, added.

"The level where Oozora Tsubasa is," Hino said.

She wanted to smack her head. It was no denying that Coach and these new people are goading them, and they were freaking successful because all of them, yes, even the most level headed of the boys, was bristling with fury. Like, was their pride that fickle?

"Naturally, the only people who should be in a team with him would be the ones who can actually keep up with him, meaning us," a guy with long hair said smoothly.

Oh dear lord, they just really had to make them explode, didn't they.

"How are you sure?" Misugi-kun asked, but it was missing the usual kindness in them. Oh god, even him?

"We were specifically trained as a team that could withstand 90 minutes as well as keep up with not only the other Asian countries, but the whole world," another guy spoke.

"But there is nothing that say that you all are better than us," Misaki-kun said, and she could tell he was getting irritated by this point.

"We just are," said a pretty proud guy.

"Oh really?" Hyuuga-kun challenged.

"We could show you how much better we are if you want?" Hino smirked again.

"And we'll show you that we are more than capable of defeating you," the tiger sneered.

The two of them glared at each other for quite some time, and each side's teammates doing the same.

"Well then it's settled," Coach Gamo interrupted. "I'll be dividing you guys into groups of seven that would go against Yamada, Sakaki, Igaki, Yoshikawa, Okano, Yumikura, and Hino. You'll be playing in 30 minute games." He paused, looking over the boys of the team. "And if I see enough reason, I'll be picking out people that will be replaced by them."

What? That's- that's not right! Didn't he think about the upcoming matches at all?

"What?" Noriko-chan exclaimed, they all realized how stupid that sounded. "But Coa-"

"I believe Natsukawa-san told you guys to mind your own businesses," Coach said to her over his shoulder. "You should follow. But I guess you guys can watch if you want. Just don't get in the way. Everything will be in place."

He added the last bit as if he was trying to comfort and calm them down, but she didn't feel sure about that. In the end, Noriko-chan backed down silently.

"Now I'll be naming the first group to up against them," he continued to say the names of the first group, and she and the other girls started to walk to the slopes, uncertainly heeding his suggestion to watch how the games would turn on. They didn't like how everything was going, and they know that this whole thing was a lie so Coach Gamo could test the boys.

And why the hell was it just for the boys?

But she guessed this was okay because they could note the improvements of the boys and point out what they still need to work on.

They finally sat themselves on the slopes, observing as the chosen seven, namely: Hyuuga-kun, Nitta-kun, Misaki-kun, Matsuyama-kun, Sawada-kun, Jito-kun, and Wakashimazu-kun. It would be a strong team, she was sure of it. The thing about the other group, the "Real Japan" as they called themselves (it's such a stupid name), they have such overbearing arrogance that they think they know everything about the boys, that they believe that they haven't improved at all, that they still hadn't overcome their weaknesses.

Sucks to be them, that's the first thing they did when working with Coach Natsukawa. They've improved on what they were lacking little by little. They should be acceptable by this point.

So when the whistle blew, they were all sure that Real Japan was in for a surprise.

She could tell Real Japan still thought that their boys still had the same data from four weeks ago, so it couldn't be helped that they were shocked by Hyuuga-kun's post play (passable, still needed to be worked on), or Nitta-kun's left leg shooting a ball (still weaker than right leg, need to add more training to it), or Jito-kun's improved speed (still atrocious, but acceptable considering tight schedules).

It was no surprise they would get the first goal.

But Real Japan didn't even seemed to be fazed by it and continued the fight.

And that's when everything went to hell.

Both teams started to become desperate, and Hyuuga-kun and Hino-kun even had a one-on-one that left both of their legs numb for who knows how long. Even then, Yumikura was already on the move to grab the ball. Misaki-kun was running to get the ball before him, which still ended with the former getting the ball because Misaki-kun was tackled by Yoshikawa right as he was about to get the ball.

Misaki-kun fell down and she could see that he was in pain judging by the tightness of his jaw. Damn it, now one of their players was injured. Coach Gamo didn't even seem to notice at all.

Jito-kun tried to block Okano, who Yumikura passed to, but he proved to be too fast for him and feinted to the left, making Jito-kun also fall on his shoulder. Jito-kun cried out in pain, and didn't get up. She was already guessing that it was a dislocated shoulder. Great, another injured player. She looked back at their Coach, who was still watching over the game and ignoring their defender's plight.

Just how long was he willing to continue this?

With Misaki-kun trying desperately to run with his limp, and Jito-kun struggling to get up, she knew she had enough.

She got up of her seat sharply.

"Sanae?" Ayame asked, "What are you doing?"

"Ending this unreasonable match," she answered and marched down the slope, ignoring the confused voices of her other teammates as they followed her.

She even ignored Coach Gamo bellowing for her to get out of the field.

Before Hyuuga-kun and Hino could even kick the ball for another stupid duel, she kicked it out of the way, flying it over the fence.

The two boys stopped what they were doing and turned to glare at her, but once Hyuuga-kun saw her face, he immediately backed down.

"What the hell?" Hino exclaimed to her. "Why the fuck are you in here?"

"Stopping this useless match," she answered simply.

"Useless?" Hino cried out. "This isn't useless, woman-"

"Yes it is!" she shouted. "There is no reason to have this stupid match in the first place. The first round is in three days, three days. Do you really think we're going to agree and have you replace some of our members? You guys are just going to disorganize our team combinations!

"Do you even have any idea how long it took us to have him," she pointed Hyuuga-kun, "and her," she pointed to Noriko-chan, "to finally stop screaming each other's heads out? Do you even know how frustrating it was to finally have everyone get this shits together and act like a team? Do you really think that you can just slip into the team without doing any sort of team building?"

Then she crossed her arms, oblivious to how the members of Real Japan was becoming uncomfortable.

She didn't even hear Ayame speak, "Oh, this is gold."

"Well, I've got news for you. You can't! It took us two weeks to have everyone work together like normal teammates. What makes you think you can do it in three days? With what you showed us today, more than half of the team probably hates your gut by this point. Nobody's going to want to work with you, which is what we can't have since, in case you forgot, soccer is a fucking team sports.

"And we're not going back to those times where I have to listen to people scream at each other again when we could have done something productive. I am not reliving those times," she hissed the last part.

Everyone, even their boys, was trying to shrink as small as possible, as if they were being humiliated. Hino was struggling to keep himself tall, but failing.

"And you!" she turned towards their Coach, who was surprised by her exclamation. "What were you thinking? Coach, I know you meant well for the boys but this is ridiculous! Not only were they taunting these gullible simpletons, but they had to injure them too! Do you even want us to win the round or not?"

"W-well, I do but I just think this was a nice way test the-"

"Test them?" she shrieked, "Misaki-kun's limping and Jito-kun's probably have a dislocated shoulder! How is this a test?"

"Okay," he conceded, "Maybe it didn't turn out the way I expected it to be, but this was necessary to prepare them and make them realize that what they're going to be going against are different-"

"Well of course they would know that," she interrupted, completey forgetting that it was rude thing to do that. "We all know that, because for that's what you've been constantly telling us for the past weeks."

And finally losing all control she had over herself, she ranted, "And how come you didn't even ask what our opinions are about this whole thing? They just come waltzing here, expecting to simply replace those you deemed unacceptable to the team, when it's a useless move because it's too late to have them join this session! You're not even going to put them on the field because putting them on means we have to rework everything single strategy we have to accommodate them. But maybe we have to because in case you didn't notice, two of our pivot players are fucking injured!"

"They not… exactly for this round," Coach Gamo confessed, "I told them they here to test if the boys are ready…"

She was about to say something again, but someone covered her mouth and held her waist behind.

"Okay, I think that's enough for now," she heard voice over her shoulder. "I'm pretty sure that they understood what you wanted to say so why don't you calm down?"

She already knew who it was, and knew he was right. Taking a deep breath, she heeded his advice to stop and leaned against his chest, crossing her arms with a pout.

"Good," he said before taking his hand off her mouth and place it around her waist to join his other hand.

"She's not going to do anything anymore Coach," he told them and she saw Coach Gamo relaxing his posture. "Though I have to tell you that it's really a bad thing to make her mad, or else she gets like that."

She elbowed his stomach in return.

"Ow," he whimpered.

Then he continued. "So what exactly is going on that made both Misaki-kun and Jito-kun injured that will probably make them unavailable to play in the match three days from now?"

There was a certain tone in his voice, that even though it sounded so pleasant, the surroundings felt colder and tenser.

"He," one of theirs boys gestured to Yoshikawa, "tackled Misaki." Yoshikawa looked to be pretty ashamed of it.

"And he," someone gestured to Okano, "was too fast for Jito and he fell on his shoulders."

"I see," Tsubasa remarked as everyone started to tell him what happened from the beginning. The members of Real Japan didn't looked nervous, Hino and even met eyes with Tsubasa when he looked at them, but it didn't last long since Tsubasa returned his attention back to his teammates.

"Huh," he said before turning to Coach Gamo. "I have to agree with Sanae on this one, Coach. This was a little unnecessary. I'm sure our team is prepared enough. Well, before anyway. Now we might have to rework some of our strategies because Misaki-kun and Jito-kun are unavailable."

Misaki-kun sat on the ground, and produced a grimace while Shiori-chan checked on his foot. Jito-kun was being checked by Misugi-kun and Cocah Mikami who just confirmed that his shoulder was dislocated.

"See, what did I tell you?" Natsukawa-san's voice joined their conversation. Apparently, Nagasato-san called for her just as the boys told Tsubasa everything. "Even the kids think it was unnecessary. Now what are we supposed to do?"

"We'll be fine, Coach," Tsubasa assured her, "It will be a little hard to play without Misaki-kun and Jito-kun playing but we'll do it. We have many capable people in our team that can cover for them."

Then he glanced at Real Japan. "Not that I'm saying you guys aren't capable, you guys are great players from what I saw, but like what Sanae said, we can't exactly try and rework everything we've done to put you in the team. Besides, you kind of have to have the girls' approval before making any serious changes. They are part of the team as we the boys are."

She leaned more against Tsubasa, trying to relax, but she couldn't because Hino kept staring at her. She thought that it was because of how Tsubasa was holding her, and he looked away once Tsubasa started to talk. But once Tsubasa voiced that he agreed with her, he turned to her again and switched his attention between her and Tsubasa. Right now though, it was all on her.

"They can join the last three days of training though, I mean if it's okay," he suggested as he tightened his hold on her. "They just can't be in the first round since that would be a terrible decision. Or they can watch to see how we play. I don't really think they've played with girls before. Have you?"

Tsubasa turned to Real Japan. He's lips formed a small frown when he saw the Hino's gaze linger on Sanae before meeting him.

"No," Hino answered. "We haven't. At least I haven't."

The other members all nodded to agree with him.

"Would you like to watch us then?" Tsubasa asked.

They turned to each other, before turning to Coach Gamo, who seemed to only shrug his shoulders.

"Sure," Yumikura replied, though he looked to be in awe of Tsubasa. "It- it would be nice."

Tsubasa smiled, "Great."

"Fine," Coach Natsukawa sighed. "They can stay. But they're just going to watch."

"Kaede that's unre-" Coach Gamo started, but he was cut off.

"I'm not risking anymore injured players, Minato," Coach Natsukawa said.

"It was an accident," Yoshikawa muttered from he was.

Coach Gamo made a noise but didn't say anything else.

"Good," Natsukawa-san said, before turning your attention to Real Japan. "I don't know if you have your things with you but just come inside and we'll assign you rooms."

She then turned to them. "Practice is over today for everyone. Someone help Misaki-kun to the dorms. We need him and Jito-kun to be checked by Doctor Himua right away. Also, please act civilly with the new boys. I know it'll be hard since they did just hurt two of your teammates, but I'm sure they know what they did and feel guilty about it. Just- just be like Tsubasa, alright? We don't want any more fighting please. The first two weeks was awful enough. I don't want a repeat."

She sighed again, "Come on everyone. Let's go and rest. We're all going to have a long day tomorrow." She started to walk away, mumbling about needing a drink again.

Everyone followed after her to the dorms, Morisaki-kun and Kisugi-kun helping Misaki-kun hobble along. Their teammates started fussing over their two injured players, and even though the tried to assure them that it was fine, the girls still hovered over them. She wanted to run to look over them too, but first she had to get answers from the guy who refused to let go of her.

"Where have you been?" she asked as she turned around to face him. "We could have probably avoided this mess if you were here sooner."

"Well, Roberto called," he answered sheepishly.

"At this time? Isn't it late in Brazil?"

"He was- he was a little drunk," he said. She gave him an unbelieving stare. "Okay, maybe he was pretty drunk. He went out with some friends and got smashed in the end."

"And?"

"And I couldn't really hang up, that's rude," he reasoned, "Plus, its hilarious hearing him talk drunk. He gets emotional and cries over being single. I told him he needed to get a girlfriend but he wouldn't listen. Anyway, he ranted for a long time and the only time I escaped was when he stopped speaking and proceeded to pass out. So I hung up and came back to the field and saw this."

She rolled her eyes while he laughed sheepishly. Ugh, those two have one of the weirdest relationship.

"Tsubasa, right?" they heard someone ask. They turned to see the Real Japan near them.

"That's me," he answered.

"Thank you for what earlier. We didn't want to have the two coach fight," Yumikura said.

Well, too late for that. They already fought before they even arrived. They'll probably work it out tonight probably.

"Don't worry about it," Tsubasa told them. "They'll probably have it worked out by tomorrow."

The members of Real Japan introduced themselves to him, while he finally let her leave his arms. Ayame was calling for her for something so she went to her where cousin was walking with Shiori-chan and Sawada-kun. Sawada-kun was asking her for some help over adding a spin to the ball so it could do a side curve, but she couldn't explain it so she asked her to do it instead.

She was in the middle of explaining it to the 3rd year Junior High how to do it, when Tsubasa's arm wrapped around her again. She yelped in surprise before she heard his boyfriend talk about the girls. Apparently Yoshikawa asked if any of them was single?

"And by the way," he started as everyone turned to him since he was speaking really loudly for some reason. "She's off limits. She's mine."

She felt her face redden before swiftly turning to look up to him. There was a proud smile on his face, but there was a glint in his eyes that was challenging someone, and she couldn't exactly turn around to see who it was directed to because 1) it hurt to move her neck like that and 2) it's embarrassing.

It was already embarrassing enough to see Sawada-kun's confused stare and everyone's face of disbelief.

"I didn't know that Tsubasa-kun was that protective," Shiori-chan mischievously whispered to Ayame.

"Territorial more like," Ayame whispered back with a smirk.

My god, this was really embarrassing.

She could only hide her face behind her hands. Now, training was going to be so much humiliating for her.

"Wait, you guys are dating?"

Lord help her survive the next three days.

End Chapter

AN: actually just kidding, i just wanted Tsubasa to say "she's off limits" and being all protective and territorial because that is my headcanon for him. i think he's the jealous type. 1) because i think its cute (when in small doses anyway. too much jealously is bad for relationships) and it gives me the butterflies and 2) well, he did say he wouldn't hand over Sanae to Kanda back in CT109. I mean, a lot people say Sanae's a beautiful girl so there's bound to be guys who like her. If you guys read FOLW you guys probably know Subaru and the mess with him, but i couldnt have fun with an overly protective Tsubasa because tHEY WERENT DATING YET. i had to do it here so i can satisfy myself *gets shot*

anyway, Real Japan, was in my opinion a little unnecessary because in the end, they didn't even get chosen to play really. and they never appeared ever again. even in R2002, G23, or RS. Hino was really the one worth noting, after WY, he was gone. maybe a few panels for him to show how he is when they became adults. last i remember he was playing for an Argentinian team. but it was fun making him attracted to Sanae even if she did scream his ears off. too bad he can't have her lol.

i guess that's it for now. thanks for reading and please review. say whatever you like. tell me if you like a jealous tsubasa, tell me if you dont. what do you want to see more? just please review because it makes my day.

thank you again and cya soon
